I jumped in when Shabby's host cut him off after cmupdater appears to have gone crazy and ate up a ton of bandwidth. But overall I was planning on being out of hosting for developers by the end of the year so its rather temporary. There were a couple other offers brought up at the time so those might still be on the table.
I offered to take the 10 bucks someone donated and chip in and get him a domain and 1 year of hosting over at that horrible company 1&1 but it was doing the job before and it will suffice again.
Phantom is busy working on something and isn't giving me any clues so I dunno what to do. Jan 1st I need to redirect cmupdater requests to another server, question is where. Projected usage this month is 3 TB, pretty low demand with an average of about 60 GB a day at the moment.

Well whatever is used needs to have ftp uploading and the abillity for a program to directly access a file with no website, waiting or anything inbetween as cmupdater reads directly from a file on the server. Now Chris said something about people using goo.im for cmupdater but unless someone wants to explain that I cant say hey go use this or that see ya. Needs to work out of the box with no fiddling for the most part.
I know he already has a goo... what about dev host?

Dev Host will have a limit of 20GB of file storage. AFH won't.
I'm checking on that now but may have to wait until I get home.

Once again with these hosts can you direct link to a file? cmupdater is going to point to whatever.whatever.com/whatever/api and if the file is not delivered right away then it will not work. Put it to you this way whatever I turn him over to has to work. 1/1/2013 I am going to redirect the links there and if it doesnt work, CM10 nightlies = bye bye until someone figures it out. Any real host works fine, anything that works like a file sharing site might not I cant just shove this into a corner and say sorry about your luck.
I contacted one guy who had a dedicated server as well before see what he says. Shabby is still combating high usage after the fact and well maybe I shouldnt have gotten back in only to have to say bye at the end of the year.
I'm sure folks appreciate you jumping in, if only for a temporary fix. This at least gives a little time to get it figured out.

I was going to carry on a bit longer just for Phantom but the current and predicted load mean increased operating costs in the future and I just don't have it in me. So I had to make the decision to help him on to the next spot. I wish I could carry on.
Don't worry all current builds (11/26 and up) I can redirect to the new server so none of the builds that can see updates now will be left in the dark.
I have used Dreamhost in the past. No complaints for the price but we didn't have much traffic. Very easy to get up and running.

Yeah but unless someone has a dreamhost account to donate. Its a matter of there is no money coming out of his pocket. I don't want to start an account on something and have to deal with closing it out after a year to everyone's disappointment.

Currently have 7 Servers in 5 States with a combined bandwidth of over 800TB of BW allocated each month Sure I can fit ya in somewhere
I sent you a PM RepinSpor. Assuming this will work for you as well I will pass along the small donation that was given to me by one of his supporters. Hopefully the hosting will draw you in a little more support as well.

Recieved thanks. Sorry for the delays in responding. Work is a bit hectic today. I will gladly work with you and the others to insure you updater works on our servers and can shoot out the nightlies to everyone
In addition to AFH i also host nightlies and other sites for developers so this shouldn't be a problem
Alright thanks man and no rush. Have a couple weeks before the end of the year

Is anyone else having problems with Paypal being slow in transferring money from a bank account? I just checked my account and it shows that money has indeed been transferred to my paypal account, however, when I log onto paypal, it shows that the money is still being processed. I made a commitment to donate money to Myn for the use of his roms on the 23rd (today) which happened to be the date paypal indicated that the funds I transferred would be available. Now it is showing the 24th and I am pissed about it. Has anyone had or is having a similar experience?

Haha ok well said doc, but just in case he didn't understand the message behind the sarcasm:
Questions are supposed to be placed in the Q&A section; the &A portion of your post would only be reached in said section, and the Q portion would be met most likely with (albeit appropriate) sarcasm as above unless placed in that section.
Understood and sorry for my rookie mistake. Sarcasm well taken.
PAYPAL
I hate paypal! What an effing rip off.
Downloading now....
I flashed to this yesterday, and my battery life has been excellent all day!
The stripper in the boot animation is real nice too, but I didn't have enough singles to get it to fully load up.
Excellent work, I tried to donate but I heard PayPal was being slow. So ill just wait.
So let me get this straight, there is now a developer that has EC05, but you have to register to get it. I tried and get Access denied when trying to download. On a side note EC05 has been released and there aren't 10 mirrors up of it yet? I don't know what is going on with the politics over there, I don't really care or follow it that closely. But what I do know is when I hear that an operating system is leaked I come here to get it. All of a sudden that's not going to happen any more without hoops to jump through, registration and a nag screen for a donation? I wonder if the guys in the Evo forums put up with this am-mature hour BS?

Unfortunately, I've seen this happen everywhere. It is not a Samsung and/or Epic specific issue... Find it hard to believe that with all the different ROM.s for Evo that there isn't the occasional crap about who took what from whom without credit (not that this is this problem). Here, we have someone who got a leak from an inside source and to protect the source, he's done things somewhat differently. Do I agree, well not really sure...I don't want to register to get something (and he is NOT charging) but then again, I had to register to post and get stuff here... So, not that big of a deal. I'm totally happy with ViperRoms BUT I understand what Mammon88 has done and why...but I can see XDA's point too. Just the latest round of politics! If not this, then it would be something else.
Either the stock or bonsai needed off it will work at this point. I'm just shocked that politics are causing a delay in EC05 stock to be put up on these forums. After all it's already OTA at this point. At this point I'll probably wait until tomorrow for an update.zip. I just figured by history it would have already been made available.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Mammon88 can't release the EC05 he has because the digital fingerprints are on the file which would lead back to the person who leaked it in the first place. So the only way to get stock EC05 is to wait for Sprint's release. Glad I'm running Bonsai 4.0.0 right now as I don't want to wait.
just to be honest here, if Mammon can remove the 'fingerprint' from the leaked copy, and put it on Bonsai 4.0, then why can't he release the stock version, fingerprint removed? Didn't he already attempt to do this, but the thread was shut down due to linking to the Bonsai site, which requires registration (not that a mirror is still in the locked thread anyways)? Im pretty sure the registration process does not remove said fingerprint itself.
I have to point out that I think he/they have the right to do WHATEVER they want with the leaked version, as it's not open source, it's a leak... BUT, the whole website membership business is disappointing, yes, it seems just an inconvenience, but if there is/will be paid premium support... it really doesn't belong on here, then does it? Honestly I am just sick of the drama, and apologetics for this whole thing, and I cant imagine what would have happened had it been Noobnl who had the leak, and then proceeded to make such a process... half the members would be asking for his head, no? I don't feel entitled to a thing, but pressure for donations, not to mention having to register for yet another website is not in the spirit of this site.
Why not just post a no-strings attached link here, or even on the Bonsai site...?
I guess demand drives things, as the wait for EB13 prompted half the site to revert to DI18 just to get the OTA and get the update.zip... now it would seem there are far fewer people doing this. /rant

Politics aren't causing anything. Maybe you didn't mean to come across the way you did but it comes across as "entitled". Bonsai is NOT based on the OTA. They don't have it. There is NOTHING to leak as you put it. If it was then we could flash the modem and not be required to odin. To the best of my knowledge the OTA hasn't hit yet. When it does you will see the posts start popping up. Until either be patient or use one of the EC05 ROMs already available.

Absolutley ridicilous. You all need to chill out relax. And respect the devs who bring you these roms for free. You act like its owed to you or something. Do u not realize these devs do this on there dime in there own time. Relaaaaaaaaaax. Be patient. This has become so ridicilous no one has respect or appreciates wha they do. I thought links to external sites for software\roms was against the rules, e.g. keep everything in one place. (However I can be completely wrong)
Im getting my touch on Monday and am super excited to see root, but having come from an Epic 4G (horrible community) plagued with people selling roms, closed threads and trolling..

It is against the rules to link to a site where you are required to register to download. You don't for the ACS site, so it doesn't break any rules.

He says he will fulfill his obligation to finish our recovery. The point I'd like to make is that people need to backup off developers and just let them work.
This is happening far too often.

I feel for him because I know what it's like from developing a MUCH MUCH smaller app, it gets very annoying.
At the same time though, I hate seeing these posts and how the devs let the community get them so worked up, we're all human but things like this you need to be able to deal with and know they will happen.
Hope the dev can enjoy his holidays and
He's definitely getting a donation from me when we get TWRP. No question.

I feel like the ET4G users are more grateful after reading that. I mean, that ICS thread had almost or over $2k in pledges. I'm sure he will be happy with how our community, for the most part, acts and reacts after he releases.
Anyone else know immediately that it was Agraben as soon as they saw Teamwin mentioned?
I "kinda" feel for the guy, but he's always been very much of a "loves to dish it out, but can't take it" kinda guy.
When Team Alpharev or whatever beat them out for s-off on the HTC devices, he about had a meltdown.
He went full-hostile to pretty much the world for a while (on Twitter, at least), so much that the rest of Teamwin was doing the "we don't know this guy" dance for a bit.
Either way, though, I don't wanna wish anyone bad news, so I hope he gets it all worked out, because he's very much a hell of a developer, one of the best. (And it's very right-on for him to fulfill his obligations.)
He wrote they only received $500 on the hdmi port. I thought there was a bounty for that. I don't remember the amount but I think it was larger than $500. I will try to confirm but if it is true, than another bounty that failed.

Which is why bounties need to be done away with completely. Some people seem to pledge just to see the amount get high enough that it will "light a fire" under the devs. Then, when the product is released, they don't follow through on their pledge, but use the product anyway.
I know that the other members from team win haven't been so active and we may be witnessing the end. Heck one of them posts about how much he likes his I phone

#ontopic
I follow Agraben on twitter, I have noticed his tweets getting more and more crazy! I think part of the problem is everyone was riled up and ready for TWRP2 when he saw the communities excitement he began to add more devices to TWRP2. Daily he would tweet about adding another device whether it was a phone or tablet, his work load was growing. I began to see TWRP2 never being released due to endless device adding, lol. Then I saw the tweet where he wanted $/donations to pay for 1/2 the new Galaxy Nexus, I dont think that panned out to well and it seems he bought the device anyway. That would be enough to tick any one of our wives off! And we all know it the wife isnt happy, neither are we, lol. If he had dropped the recoveries he had for the devices that were ready 2 months ago, things may be a bit different. People might be riled up to send some donations that way, but the endless device adding got everyone down, myself included.

Whoa.... I was referring to Shift.
I have no qualms with Shinzul, as I've never exchanged one word with him.

I was talking about shift also in my original post... I was just stating that also on the team Is Shinzul who has been really quiet. I'm not saying I had qualms about him ust that he has been quiet for a long time. He was really cool and gave updates on stuff he was working on.

Yeah, it's not like he's a lead chip designer for Nvidia or anything at his day job... (Oh, wait... he IS...)
Doesn't Nvidia pay their employees a good salary? I would think that they would, but who knows..

I would think he brings in a good check, but thats still $750 two weeks before Christmas.
Whoops, wrong thread indeed LOL.
Its a fine line that many dev's have to walk; one side of them loves to work on new devices and the challenge of getting something to work on a device can be very intoxicating..On the other hand, it takes away from your personal life, and, eventually, the moochers, leechers, and the folks who feel they are entitled to everything and anything for free just because the registered of a web forum, drives away the creative, sharing folks who make the great software that we get to play with on our phones..
Frankly, even if he got paid for all the things he has developed for smartphones, it wouldn't make a differences, because, the first jerk bait, who complains about having to wait for an update, would just set him off again..
Any dev posting stuff on XDA, has to think about how they will deal with all the obnoxious ass wipers who seem to have overrun what used to be a fun, and exciting place to interact with others; its not just XDA that has this issue now, its pretty much every "Free" web forum that offers software and programs for anyone who can figure out how to register..
Maybe a "membership fee" type site, would help keep some of the worst, most obnoxious, douchebags out??
^ indeed.
Sent from the future.
Free to read with a small fee to post in Dev forums (free for recognized devs) would work for me.

I didn't make any of this. I just saw a need and tried to help out. I didn't go about the quest quite the way the dev would have preferred it. I'm sorry sfhub. I like your work. I feel these are important tools. My upload speed isn't fast but it's more like the thought that counts. I'm sure with help from others that think this idea helps out, that the speeds will get faster.
I can't say I'm sorry enough to sfhub for upsetting him. I just want to help and didn't want to just sit here and not do anything to help out or give back.
I just put up the ][e4gt][ one click odin of EL29 rooted (no cwm recovery). The trackers might not have published it for everyone to see yet, but they are there whenever they do show up.
Edit:
I'm getting all the one click odins first, then I'll go onto the stock rooted cwm flashable zips. I guess I'm going to start out with the big stuff first.
Thanks, I had to Odin a phone to stock and sent it to asurion, there was only one file sharing site that still had it. It took me over 3 hours to download the file. This would have been way easier.
I will post only the torrent file to my available download, not a redirected link to the site. It does say in attach files, valid file extensions, torrent is there.... Reminder, this isn't wares, this is epic touch odin files. These are all full wipe versions.
I'm expecting to get my butt chewed out by someone.... I've got eg30 stock and EL13 rooted already downloaded and EL26 rooted is downloading now. I will post them in a little bit. I didn't get any answers from anyone if this was ok. I offered many times but nobody said anything, so I'm going to pick the ball up and run with it for awhile.
I don't even know if this will work or not...
To be chewed out by someone, they'd have to be informed what you were planning and object to it.
I actually didn't have any idea from the subject line what files you were referring to.
As a matter of courtesy, though, it would have been nice if you PM'd the author(s) what you were proposing ahead of time instead of expecting them to figure out this title/subject meant their stuff is being seeded as a torrent.
Also as a matter of courtesy, usually you give some credit to the authors of whatever you end up seeding.
In principle I'm ok with someone seeding a torrent with the ODIN one-click packages I put together, but from a maintenance standpoint, I do have a concern with the scenario where some issue is discovered and a new version needed to be distributed. There is no longer a single distribution posting to inform people of a change.
I think it would be better if you gave the author the .torrent file and they posted it on the main page for the particular item giving you credit for seeding the torrent. This gives people the benefit of the torrent and the author the ability to coordinate updates.

I definitely think torrents would be a good idea as I'm sure a big part of our community uses them, especially in the time that we are in when who knows when the next file share site will be shut down.
But sfhub is completely right. Their work, their distribution... and at minimum they should be clearly credited.
decent idea though
Epic 4G Touch perfected by Tiff and Calk!
Sorry, this is the first time I've tried anything like this. I did say something in a post regarding what I'm doing and sfhub didn't say anything. Sorry if I made anyone mad. I'm not intending to be a major distribution point or whatever. Sfhub, since this is stuff you made, if you don't want me to do this I will yank the plug on it. I was, after I got all the one click out of the way, going to go to each of the topics these were from and post a link here saying that since the links are drying up, I'm offering to help. I'm just one person. I'm not looking for any glory or credit. I'm simply doing what I heard a while ago of instead of saying something about it, do something about it. I didn't mean any disrespect sfhub. I don't know all about the whole whatever of giving credit to people. This post is a work in progress and I was intending on cleaning it up and making it more presentable after I finished. I just reread your post again. I don't need credit, thanks, karma or whatever. I wasn't going to do this with the intention of getting an attaboy. I just didn't want to see the files die and I saw that the devs were having a time trying to find places to host the files. From the looks of things, I've only got 60k of upload speed. Slow and steady and resumable.
Learning from my mistakes...
Test downloading first link @ 50k so should get file in 1.5 hr. thanks op and sfhub ! using Adownloader
from the market. it's nice to have access to the great files U Dev's create. THANKS

As I mentioned I don't have a real issue with you seeding the torrents, in theory.
I think logistically it would be better if I put your torrent in the main post of the item (giving you credit) so if there is a change or issue and something new needs to go up, it can be coordinated, rather than have the torrent using the old version while other download methods use a newer version.
You mentioned seeding torrents for other files. If those files are ones that might change more often this logistic issue could become more of a problem. The one-clicks usually won't be changing, but I still think a central post that covers all the different ways of downloading is a better model to follow.
Someone offered to host the files. Hopefully it pans out.
We are all adapting to the MU takedown and it is good you are helping folks out.
To be effective, these torrents need some people with big pipes (or lots of people with little pipes) to participate. Hopefully this attracts enough people to keep going.

Gonna give you an attaboy anyway.
I take it from your response you don't really mind if I add the torrents to the main posts. If you do mind, let me know and I will remove them.
Anyway, each of the ODIN threads now has a torrent link to your attachments in the above posts. If you change them for some reason, please let me know so I can update the links.
There is a thanks for you at the top of each post.
Torrents are great and I'd likely be more than happy to devote some of my seedbox to something like this. However using demonoid as the tracker seems like a really questionable idea given the nature of what they focus on.
I couldn't remember my info for tpb and this was the only other alternative. Like I was telling someone before. There are legitimate uses for torrents. Many linux distros use this as an alternative download method. Many times, after it is seeded for awhile by a few people, the speed can be faster than http. The torrent files are in my post so, for the people that might be worrying about it, it's not like the person has to go to a different site to download the odin stuff or the torrent file. I just put this together with the tools I had. If anyone can think of, and actually execute, a better way then by all means say something. How does the saying go, "I don't want to hear you sing, I want to see you dance."
What sfhub said, I finally understood and agree. Choosing files that don't change, like odin and say stock odexed rooted cwm zips, then that wouldn't be like trying to herd cats.
