I am currently using CM10 on my rooted Galaxy S3 AT&T phone. Can someone tell me how I can get stock AT&T Jelly Bean with root access?
The root no flash count thread in development has been updated to rooted at&t jellybean. No data loss. Flash with Odin. It's what I did.
There are a lot of ways to do this. Flash the root injected file using odin. Flash the TW version using odin and use kies to update. you could try going right from CM10 to the JB update.
I was on rooted TW and I updated via Kies, then just flashed cwm, installed super user zip, and updated cwm to the latest version. Everything is working even google wallet following proper installation.

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S III and the last time I updated to 4.0.4 I was told I needed to get a Deodexed file, so I did, but I can't find that for 4.1
I have clockworkmod because I just booted into it and saw it, and I've got root on my phone. What do I need to do to get jelly bean and keep root?

Flash root66 stock rooted. Data should be preserved but I cannot guarantee
Sent from my Rooted Gameboy
I would recommend doing it through Odin to get all the partitions.

Currently I am using Sprint's Galaxy Note II SPH-L900 with stock 4.1.2 (MC2) rooted with TWRP installed.
I have been prompted for the new OTA of 4.3. I would like to keep Root and TWRP and update to 4.3. What is the easiest way? Is there a ROM I should use?
I was on stock rooted MC2 like you and I also have TWRP recovery. I simply flashed LorJay's rooted MK4 ROM and I've had zero issues. I decided to try without reverting back to stock un rooted and it worked just fine. I'm not sure why there's a need to un root first... my MK4 ROM flash perfectly and root has never failed. I'd do a nandroid backup first and then decide how you want to go about it from there. Read LorJay's thread in development forum. You can follow his directions or do what i did. It's your choice. But don't take the ota update. When I updated to MK4 rooted ROM I wiped everything even internal storage before flashing LorJay's stock rooted MK4. I've also flashed STS MK4 ROM with no problem. You'll just need to flash the wifi fix with odin (on your pc only) before wifi & hotspot will actually work. Youll need to install odin on your pc if you havent already. Make sure you use the PDA flash button in odin when flashing the wifi fix. Also you will have to unzip the wifi fix zip file before you can use it with odin
Basically LorJay's ROM is mostly stock and STS is debloated. Both have basic and most common tweaks etc. Good luck.

thanks tx_dbs_tx...I was in the same situation. I had 4.1.2 and was rooted. I wanted to try 4.3 rom but was afraid because of the knox issue. after reading that you flashed it like any other rom I decided to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582027 , and it works great. it even has note 3 spen features. I love it. if you wouldn't have tried it I would have not either because I was afraid something was going to happen to my phone. and all that unrooting stuff seemed to difficult for me. thanks again man.

With the rom you just flashed did you need to flash the wifi patch or did it just work with this ROM?

I just tried to use wifi and it doesn't work so I need to flash the wifi fix. everything else works great.
So a couple of days ago I got a GS3 running the OTA stock 4.3. I wasn't sure if I wanted to use it because I find Touch Wiz kind of clunky. So I decided I would try out Cyanogenmod. I installed it via their new handy installer (as the sprint GS3 is one of the compatible devices). All went well and I got Cyanogenmod 10.2 running smoothly. Now I want to activate the device, but apparently you can't activate a rooted device on sprint. So now i need to get it back to stock 4.3 and I can only seem to find solutions to his problem for devices that have not gotten the 4.3 OTA update and are still running 4.1.2. On the Cyanogenmod installer guide says:
You may perform a full backup from recovery, after flashing recovery (you will have to do this manually, at the moment) and then copy it off the device, if you don't have an external sdcard. If you've already run the installer, you will have to find stock images and flash them using fastboot or Odin.

My problem Is I can't locate any stock 4.3 images with which to try this. If I can get my hands on a stock 4.3 image, would the process be just going into the bootloader and using Odin to flash the 4.3 image?
Can anyone help me out?
You only need to be on a stock tw rom, even if you are rooted it should activate. There are a couple in the development section.

I see, do you know of any any good 4.3 based tw roms? All the ones I'm finding are based on 4.1. Also, do I need to do anything special to flash from Cyanogenmod 10.2 to a touchwiz rom (as Cyanogenmod is AOSP)? I already have ClockworkMod recovery installed.
Nothing special, flash like anything else

[STOCK ROM] Stock 4.3 MK3 ROM [ROOTED/UNROOTED]
Hey guys I am trying to update my galaxy s3 to kitkat. I am running galaxy s3 at&t variant 747 rooted 4.1.1. I747UCDLK3 update to kitkat. I realized I need to update to 4.1.2 first before doing the 4.3 update. I can't seems to find files I need for 4.1.2. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thank you for your help.
Are your running stock 4.1.1? If you are and your phone is not sim unlocked, unlock it using the free method. Once unlocked, use Odin to flash back to stock unrooted 4.1.1 and then run OTA until you get to KK. It's a longer process than trying to flash straight to 4.4 but is a safer method for people that are new to flashing ROMs.
I am on the stock rom 4.1.1. Does CWM recovery need to go back to stock as well? That is a good idea to unlock before I update.
If you flash back to stock 4.1.1 with Odin, it will wipe everything and put the phone back to completely unroot stock and stock recovery. Stock recovery and being unrooted is required for OTA updates.
Ok is this the link to unlock phone?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529200
Yes, that's it.
I can't seem to find 4.1.1 rom file links seem to be bad on unlock page.
There are stock rooted 4.1.1 images here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
You can use the free unlock method even if the ROM is rooted.
For some reason the at&t mirrors don't seem to be working either.
Mirror2 for the stock rooted 4.1.1 works for me.
I would like to root again after kit kat Is it easy to root with knox? Does unlock stick through kit kat? I really appreciate all of the help. Great website. Great people.
Many people have had success with rooting by using Towelroot.
The sim unlock is permanent.
Let me know how it goes for you @thepar. I expect to be updating to kitkat in the coming week.
For the benefit of those searching the forums to unlock their phones my experience may be of help to those on 4.1.2 or possibly even MJ2. I have had my SGS3 since June 2013 and only allowed one update, that was to 4.1.2. My phone was rooted long ago, but I just unlocked it earlier today and that was with a custom recovery in place and without unrooting. In my case I did not revert to the 4.1.1 rom. I did downgrade the modem to dlk3, that of 4.1.1 while leaving the rom and bootloader at MG2. After completing the unlock I upgraded the modem back to MG2. I have confirmed that SMS, MMS, phone, and wifi functionality is intact.
In truth, I will probably not go back to stock to get to kitkat. I am considering upgrading to the leaked MJ2/4.3 bootloader and MJB modem and then flash a kitkat rom which will work on them, there are several.
I just did the unlock yesterday. I need to find someone with a t-mobile sim to test if the unlock worked. Will I still be able to update the OS even though it is on rooted stock? What will it update me too?
I am kind of debating if I should install a custom rom minus KNOX.

If you want to run an OTA update, you need stock recovery and an unrooted system.
I have a stock recovery but the os is rooted. I don't mind using oden to update the os. I might be better to install a rom with knox removed. I can't seem to find 4.1.1 stock unrooted. I did find 4.0.1 ICS.
You can find a stock ATT 4.1.1 ROM on sammobile.com.
You cannot use Odin to flash a stock KK ROM because it was never released in an Odin format by ATT. ATT provided the KK update via OTA updates. Complete KK updates were provided for i747m only.
Thanks so much!! downloading now.
Let us know what happens. Cheers
I have decided to go custom rom route. It is better to update stock ota first then install custom rom or custom rom straight from 4.1.1?
Hi there, just factory reset my i747 s3 att phone. i am on 4.1.2.
Should I root first with chainfire easily or should I update first? I dont even remember how to update this phone from stock. I would like to be at 4.4.2 or above (or are any of the newer versions good, 5/6 etc?) with root and xposed installed in the end. What should be next steps be?
thanks!
Moved to Q&A
If the phone is not sim unlocked, I would flash a stock 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com using Odin and use the free method to sim unlock. I would then run OTA updates until the phone is running the latest stock ROM. Running OTA updates is the slowest but easiest method to get the phone running the latest modem and bootloader. Many recent custom ROMs require the latest bootloader and modem to function.
