Hi all,
This thread is for improving the Camera built in into HTC one x system software and mods for it. I have issues with primarily the video usage:
- video is non standard : 1088 instead of 1080 etc
- video stuttering : is there really such thing as HTC one x video stabilization??
E.g. with lgcamera (paid) I can choose higher bitrates but on my htc one x [latest rom as of writing Leedroid and original rom!] shows normal screen but when pressed recording bot in stock and other videotools the height is abnormal and i'm not talking about 1080 <> 1088 but a higher height.... really annoying stretch effect....
Post here tips, mods links, hacks app links etc.

What 'tools' or mods are you bringing?
Just curious.
I think this belongs in General, as there seems to be no intention to develop by the OP.

The forum name was just changed this morning.
Moved to the International One X w/ Tegra3.
Thanks so much OP! Have just tried LGCamera and very impressed with it.
My main (only!) problem with the One X is the awful framerate of the recorded video.
If you play back the videos in VLC and set the aspect ratio to 2.21:1 it seems about right.
Mind boggles why HTC can't make the One X produce video that smooth.. especially as they did with the One V.

Im still wordless of the BAD video recording feature of this phone...
Im using as well lg camera pro is there no way to set the correct aspect while recording?!
Hi,
the quality of my video's and pictures are good. But when I'm recording something in stock camera-mode, and I'm in a stadium or somewhere where there's a lot of noice, the sound drops like crazy and I have to delete the video, because it's unwatchable. The sound keeps going up and down all the time when a few people in the stadium are singing...
I'm recording with stereo audio setting enabled. I have the 1.29 europian radio and i use ARHD 5.0.0 no sense custom ROM.
Is it that i have to turn off the stereo audio recording to prevent this? Or is it a malfunction of my device?
I hope somebody can help me. Thanks in advance.
Nobody has the same problem? So it's probably a malfunction? Not a setting?

Hi Guys,
I know there are similar threads, BUT the ONE X does have a very special camera, and I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with any specific Camera Apps yet?
Here are a few that I've tried so far, but nothing too special to be honest:
1. Camera 360
2. Paper Camera
3. Stock Camera App
So far Camera 360 is probably the best, but I've heard good things about Camera FV-5 and Camera Zoom FX?
When you say camera 360 is probaly the best, in what way?
Lower compression would be great, but I wonder how much the imagesense chip will restrict this and can third party camera apps bypass this process. I have tried camera fv-5 and there does seem to be a little less compression, which allows for slightly more detail, also you can save in png, but there is no zoom function.
All third party apps bypass ImageSense. I love Camera360. Way less compression, and the available filters are pretty cool too, better than Instagram~
I use now Camera ICS.
This one can disable the compression (at least it says so) and indeed the files get much bigger (100% in jpeg mode instead of 90 or 95%)
And since it still is JPG, you still can use the EXIF info.
I tried some others, but they did miss options or did also compress or the lighting was worse, or .......
I've tried a lot of 3rd party camera apps and, honestly, I find the stock HTC app to be the best.
Camera FV-5 is very good though.
Camera360 was great until some background process started to overheat My HOX, and I uninstalled it..

Stock HTC app has the best UI, but the worst image quality.

Hmm, can't say I've ever had this problem.
You may find this of interest, I have done a quick comparison between these camera apps.
1. Camera 360
2. Camera ICS
3. Camera FV-5
4. HTC Camera
You may find the results surprising, please visit the following link to the HTC ONE Users Group at Flickr http://www.flickr.com/groups/htc-one/discuss/72157629696073156/
Ive just been using stock ive had no problems with it
Stock is better than camera zoom fx, that thing may have bigger files but it is grainy in low light and over exposed everywhere else (unless you like that).
I can get better pictures using stock and the opening gallery and clicking that edit button.
If you click edit > effects then edit at the top you can manually edit all the filtering

The thing about the camera apps is that you can control exposure way more than you can with the stock app. If you were serious about taking pictures on the HOX, you'd be fiddling with every setting there is Stock camera definitely has the better metering, but I still believe that image quality wise, there's still way too much compression. I'll try to do a comparison some day.
lgcamera has finally supported the HTC One X!

A new way to bypass compression!!
Hey.
At the One X when I choose stabilizations an image while filming program is falling apart. When taking pictures, the image jumps and crazy about the program.
Movies shooting in good quality, but it hangs ...

Hmm? It has always supported the One X.. I've had it installed for a month already -_- Bypasses compression, but not dropped frames. Still as bad as stock cam.

only a few days ago then it started to officially support the one x.
Nice, just installed the Pro version, photo's uncompressed, you'll get a file size of 4,5mb, instead of the 1,5 of htc, better quality
you can record movies in 3gp and mp4.. I've set it to mp4, because that runs better on the One X
also the bitrate to 30mbps, instead of the 7 you get from stock htc camera
stereo quaility record on 320kbps and 48hz
218mb for 1min mp4 movie, hmm haha
maybe I should try 20mbps bitrate
Do you have drop frames in video?

Same happens to me when I try to activate the stabilisation in the camcorder.
Great camera app, I'm playing with it at the moment trying all options and buttons.
Recording in mpeg4 with video bitrate of 100Mbit and video framerate 30 plus resolution 1920x1088. (5 seconds video is 16,9mb)
Switching between picture and camcorder works fine for me and also stabilisation I've enabled, no freeze.
I still use the free version.
I can switch between picture and camcorder without problems.
Also stabilisation I have enabled.
Edit; the camcorder is very very nice, without it the camcorder is great as well but if the zoom would work fluent it would be a kick ass camcorder!
Edit 2; the zoom does work fluent! You can zoom in and out with the volume button WOW !!!!
Last edit; the zoom isn't fluent but I can live with that (hopefully it can be fixed in futher development), bought the pro version.
* Video stabilization
* Auto rotate video

On my stock HOX the free version of lgCamera hangs whenever I go to video-recording mode forcing me to click the menu button to exit the app. It also, somehow, manages to shut down the camera service making even the stock HTC camera to malfunction!
So far the latest Camera ICS (free version) has managed to work flawlessly with my device, making incredible videos that are almost 500mb in size for a 2min clip, but remains on the 24 frames all the time. Videos do look smooth though.
What I want to know is if someone using lgCamera has managed to bypass the stock framerate limit of 24fps? And what are the results?
I'm on a no rooted stock HOX as well, latest 1.29.401.11
Weird but all does function fine for me, no freeze nothing.
I've set the frame rate at 30 but how can I check if it's real 30?
Edit; your right, last video does 21 frames per second.
Edit; my apologies I just realise by reading your post a second time that you do not have any problems on latest version as well.

Hi again,
I've just had a very fast reply by email from the developer of lgCamera.
He told me that previous version 6.25 did hang sometimes but latest version 6.3 is checked on all mode and shouldn't.
Are you running the latest version?

exactly the same issue with paid app, latest version.
it's the only app so far that managed to **** up the stock camera, needed a reboot to get it working again
i also have wrong aspect ratio in the viewfinder after pressing record, when shooting video, but the recorded material is fine....
So far Camera ICS+ is superior, even with 24fps.
The developer of lgCamera has opened a new thread for beta testing
in the general apps and games all device Android section >> HERE
Yes I downloaded the latest free version from the market. I downloaded by other means the old pro 1.25 version and it works flawlessly, it manages 30fps while recording from a moving vehicle! Strange, right?
You can check the framerate and other properties of your videos by opening those files with MX Player.
So, does the newest version lgCamera in your case, create videos with a higher bitrate than the stock camera?

Hey, I noticed this a while now, but haven't really brought it up. Since the jelly bean update my htc one x video quality has been terrible.
In ICS it may have been only 25fps, but atleast the quality is good. This is 30fps, but its horrible quality.
It gets all blocky when looking around, so much that you can barely tell what your looking at.
I haven't seen anyone else talking about this, so I'm wondering if its only me?
Here is a short example.
No one else have this?
I really need to know if its only me or not.

Bitrate is too low for higher fps, i hope HTC gonna change that in sense 5. We'll gonna have new camera app like in the new One. Use 720p mode, without image stabilisation, it's the best option for now... Or you can try camera jb+, but sound recording is crappy in this app .

Yeah, modded camera apk is the best choice, if you have rooted device.
HTC One X Video Streaming BUG
-Android is having major accruing latency in publishing audio and video frames
- it only occurs when using cellular network connection, not WiFi network
- it only occurs from Android client on cellular network, never from iOS client on Wifi and/or cellular network or Android on Wifi network
- extensive testing across multiple networks and multiple Android devices on WiFi and Cellular and we get same result every time
- occurs for certain devices, but not all devices. for instance, HTC One X has this bug. Samsung Galaxy Note does not have this bug.
- Android is playing back audio and video in realtime from iOS client but iOS client is playing back audio 10+seconds late from Android client. Only when Android is using cellular, never on WiFi.
HTC One X specs:
PLATFORM OS Android OS, v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), upgradable to v4.1.1 (Jelly Bean)
Chipset Nvidia Tegra 3
CPU Quad-core 1.5 GHz
GPU ULP GeForce
Hello i bought second hand htc one x 32gb in ok condition for $40 and i am facing one problem when i open a camera app it shows up and rage quits in few seconds but if i attempt to use a third party app like google camera it works fine any ideas ?
*Little update when i install antutu benchmark it says that i have 6 megapixel camera and not 8
and no sensors are suppoted *
It is running stock rom and it is not a chinese knock off
Don't worry. HTC messed up the Android Camera API in the last version of One X 4.18 software by providing a long list of supported resolution causing the last few values being truncated.
Any third-party app obtaining camera supported resolutions through standard Camera API will ended up falsely report 6MP as the largest value.
While HTC camera isn't affected because they didn't read from the Camera API instead using hardcoded in the cameara app itself.
Read this thread for details, [PATCH] 8MP Camera Fix On 3rd Party App :: EndeavorU 4.18 Base.
