Trading galaxy s2 along with an old nexus s 4g and 80 dollars for a galaxy s3 on craigslist tomorrow
Just wondering, how much of an upgrade is the s3 and will I be able to transfer my account to it, along with the insurance..
The s3 takes a mirco sim :0

I don't think that trade is worth it. The s3 is not that much different from s2, their both dual core, fast and smooth and do pretty much the same damn thing. Correct me if I'm wrong but the s2 has more support and roms than the s3. If I were you I would hold off until the contract expires then get the s4 or s5 when it comes. I have played with my friends s3 and its not that different accept the screen size and display.Go to a Tmobile store and play with it for 10 minutes and see if I'm right.
Two great phones plus $80 for 1 similar phone is nuts.

You're probably going to lose the insurance if it's the tmobile one.
I am pretty sure it's billed specific for the t989 they have on file that you 'own'.
Micro sims aren't an issue, you can probably get this free if you are slick enough with CS/store people.
As for if the trade is worth it or not..
I guess that's really up for you to decide.
Let's just say the price is 400 on ebay.
t989 is about 200.
Nexus S is about 100..
Seems about fair.
I work at T-Mobile... no you're not.going to lose your warranty. As long as you're paying for the php bundle, your covered no matter what phone you have as long as it's a T-Mobile branded phone.
As far as the phone being an upgrade? The T-Mobile GSIII already has official jelly bean, which this phone won't get for awhile. As far as the CPU goes, you'd have to clock the t989 s3 SoC to 1.8+ GHz to accomplish what the s4 SoC does at stock 1.5 GHz. Also, the GPU (adreno 225) is the same as the adreno 220 in this phone, except it's on a smaller manufacturing process allowing for clocks 400 MHz and above versus the max 320 MHz our GPU hits.
Also let's not forget you'd be upgrading to slightly bigger, much better 720p display.
The battery life is also MUCH better on the GSIII. Everyone at work has one and no matter what tweaking I do, what ROM I run, they always wreck my battery life.
Also the radio on the GSIII is much better. No matter what radio I flash, they consistently get higher download/upload speeds.
The camera and speaker are also better.
So yes, the GSIII is a worthy upgrade from the GSII. Especially since you're not paying much out of pocket for it.

The GSII does everything as the GSIII. It offers a nicer screen, but it's also a bigger phone. I've held the GSIII and personally felt it offered nothing better over my GSII. Besides, I don't like the size.

Comparing the skyrocket to the s3 or a normal s2 to s3, I prefer the s3. It's thinner, faster and has better battery life. Slightly larger screen is also a plus for me.

About the only thing i saw skimming that wouldn't make it for sure is the screen.
Doubling the ram isnt crazy at all. 12MP while not even desirable due to image noise is pretty low considering the HTC Titan II and others are sporting 16MP sensors. 2 Ghz A9 dual core is available pushing it a little but hey.
12 megapixels actually can be pretty good. It isnt all about megapixels. My wife has a 500 dollar Canon that is only 14. I am pretty sure our 8 megapixel is better than a lot of phones.
On my Epic mobile phone.
I think that is the Sprint LTE phone to get. My SGS2E4GT will last me until there is LTE in my area. By then the GNex will be old news. SGS3 will be my upgrade.
I hated 3D. I got an EVO 3D before and is not good watching a full movie. It hurts your eye. Why not change the screen size to match the galaxy note.
Rumors or not that image is awesome..
Go a little stronger on the radios this time Samsung... kthx.
Reality S3 probably:
1.5 Quadcore - 12MP Camera - 16/32GB - 2GB Ram
Wishful S3:
2.5GB Quadcore - 16MP camera - 32/64GB - 2/3GB Ram
What will make me say WOW is if I could replace my laptop and be able to handle medium to light heavy processing power of a laptop (probably s4)... Until then it's business as usual.
If that's true, I'm starting to save right now.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Those specs are nice, but they better make sure the radios they user are to of the line with no GPS issues or loss of signal problems and slow 3g.
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
We have to remember we're dealing with a phone manufacturer AND processor maker here. It all depends on which route Samsung decides to go with their processors...the Nvidia route, and racing to add more cores; or the qualcomm route, and trying to improve and refine their dual cores. Both ways offer benefits.

I have tried to convince the HTC fanboys exactly this but they don't want to hear it. All they have to say it, Samsung phones are plastic and junk.....Um okay, I will enjoy my junk phone that destroys the EVO 3D in every way but you keep thinking your phone is better.

Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant and want to upgrade my phone to Galaxy S II, now do you guys recommend the T-Mobile version or the international version?
Please don't consider only the phone but also the future ROM development also.
Thanks in advance
specs wise I recommend the Tmobile one because of higher process speeds. and for development, I haven't really looked into the international version but the att skyrocket is the same phone as this so whoever gets a better ROM 1st , both sides win because they are compatible with eachother
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
I don't know too much about the international version but I believe you will get better data speeds with the Tmobile version depending on your area but the processor is better in the international version.
I recommend going with the international phone. If you are curious about development, check out the forums of each device and see what you like. The international version will also get official updates faster.

I came from a Vibrant. Went GNexus then went to GS2 today.
I used the Gnexus for about a 9 days and already the GS2 seems way snappier (using the Juggernaut 4.1) Can't say about the battery life on it yet, but with the GNexus I was able to get full day with a single charge with wifi on all day.
Enterrpise email on push along with gmail and hotmail. sms/mms/listen to podcast for about 3.5 hours.
I'll have more details with the gs2 (T989) in the next couple of days.
Why would you get the international version when you would be stuck on edge speeds?
This phone is fast a you would need it to be but its true the development here is slow. I would recommended this phone to anyone in a heart beat.
I couldn't have a phone on Tmobile without wifi calling....thus the Tmobile version

Okay heres the dealio. Non bias or anything. Internation galaxy s 2= GS2 T-mobile galaxy s 2= 989
The 989 has a larger screen to play with. Not really a necessary thing to have but its nice. The processor on gs2 is alot better. Exynos processor. The only reason the 989 has a bigger number in processor is because its a qualcomm snapdragon. Which is sucks... lol. Exynos has better gpu and cpu control. The cameras the same. And yada. The data is better for tmobile since it is true 4G. (42 mbs) but i dont see using the data a whole lot unless you tether 24/7. But the lack of development in this community is just like the SGS4G. Honestly its cause this phone doesnt really need it. Once we get CM9 then you... Devs will work there asses off cause cm9 is the best and far more developed than stock. But its slow atm. The gs2 already has ics roms i presume and if not then they will really soon! So its all about your patience...

Why Do you say Exynos is better? Any proof? at least gs2 is higher in GHz.
The exynos has a smoother transitions and i compared it to a sprint gs2 with an exynos processor. The game asphalt is noticeably smoother on the exynos processor. And number doesnt matter at all. Windows phones are still 1.0 ghz and not evem dula core and can do perfect with animations and games. Honeslty dual core is nonsense... But exynos is an all around better processor. If you dont believe me then go to a sprint store and play around with their gs2

So, I think I got the answer then.
There's an S3 for sale, for about $400. It's a fair price, but I don't think I really need the phone. I have the S2 which I think is the perfect size and battery life is phenomenal with 4 hours of screen time.
However, the S3 looks great, and feels great, but again, for $400, is it worth it? I could maybe sell the S2 for $250 so the upgrade would cost $150.
Ahh, debating.
Oh and some questions, how's the battery life on the S3? Is Jelly Bean running well on the S3? Is it possible to get 3-4 hours of screen time?
Thanks for reading.

Something else to consider. LG has the Optimus G (quad core snapdragon) and there's been rumors of samsung testing a phone with 3GB of ram. I'm sure soon enough samsung will have a phone with 3GB of ram and the quad snapdragon and you'll want that. I say save your money and stick with the S2 for now. It's still a great phone.

I just flashed my S2 back to stock to give to my mom after not having seen or touched it in over a month and although it was my favorite android and still an excellent device, after getting in bed with the GS3 i could never go back. It would be like going back to dial up after using broadband, figuratively speaking. Having said that i'd probably agree with most everyone's opinion, there will always be a next best thing, and in the world of android its usually not far off. So unless you have the money to throw around to buy a new phone every 6 months, or you work for a wireless carrier and get the hook up like that, you have to pick your battles. On the other hand 150 bucks is probably less than you could get even the GS3 at upgrade pricing, much less any of the new future devices while they are this hot off the press.

well Apple called .5 an amazing revolution, I'm sure samsung can get away with calling .2 a big leap haha
This could be true but based upon all the "leaked" specs that came out right up until the release of the S3, this may all be speculation.

Good lord! That would be awesome. Specs would be second to none.
And also the better build quality thing. Although the SIII gave Apple a run for its money, a better aesthetics quality build could finally put Apple to sleep (not saying that's Samsung's objective, other creating quality devices.) But I still know a few Apple fanboy stragglers who still won't switch because of the plastic quality of the S3. Maybe this will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

the thing is with the build quality of samsung and apple from what i noticed is that the plasticy feel oh the phone actually makes it more durable against hard falls compared to apples iphone with its strong firm build of the device makes it more vulnerable when it comes to hard falls because the phone is actually pressurized to the point where one little fall can cause major damage to the iphone. so from that ill take a plastic feel of a phone against iphone build quality

Great rebuttal not only faster but WAY faster.
I'm still holding onto my beloved S2, s3 wasnt much of an improvement for me. Plus gorilla glass2 sucks in my eyes.
Each to his/her opinion.

So I found an S3 is decent used condition on eBay for 400. Being the impulse buyer I am, I went ahead and ordered it. Right now I'm running stock deodexed 4.2.2 with Franco and some minimal mods. I'm liking it a lot, but I've heard so much about the s3 and its awfully hyped. Is it worth it? Is it that much better a device than the nexus?
Opinions are appreciated.

Depends, although for the most part S3 is better, and in some part it's WAY better (Battery life comes into mind), but if you like AOSP, the G-nex is a better choice, since AOSP support for the S3 (The quad Intl. Variant) is pretty much abysmal, at least until Samsung cooperates and fleece the much needed Exynos documentation.
But yeah, the S3 is far better in most part, the only flaws I can think of is the fact it's hideous, lack of software buttons, and the way Samsung still thinks menu button is still necessary (Recent button is easy more useful IMO). But those are minor annoyance.
I'd say go for the S3.
If it's good hardware you want, s3 is great. Everything else about it is terrible IMHO.

S3 is better in many parts (performance, storage, battery life ..) ,but I advice you to wait until the release of the S4. Prices will fall anyway
Thank you all for the opinions. I think I will run them one day on and one day off, nexus then s3, nexus then s3 and so on and SK fourth. I appreciate y'all taking the time to give me some input

Should have checked craigslist for a cheaper buy & or maybe waited for the S4. I personally like the S3.

probably so, but I tried that and I live in a small town so whenever an S3 or Note 2 gets posted for a good price, its gone immediately and I can never catch it

and to add, I ordered a t-mobile S3. I don't like the quad version compared to the gnex on paper. It doesn't seem much better and I've heard terrible things about it lol
