well Apple called .5 an amazing revolution, I'm sure samsung can get away with calling .2 a big leap haha
This could be true but based upon all the "leaked" specs that came out right up until the release of the S3, this may all be speculation.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Good lord! That would be awesome. Specs would be second to none.
And also the better build quality thing. Although the SIII gave Apple a run for its money, a better aesthetics quality build could finally put Apple to sleep (not saying that's Samsung's objective, other creating quality devices.) But I still know a few Apple fanboy stragglers who still won't switch because of the plastic quality of the S3. Maybe this will be the straw that breaks the camels back.

In all fairness, Samsung's responded and has been pushing source code out for Exynos CPUs. It does make future purchasers skeptical, though.

the thing is with the build quality of samsung and apple from what i noticed is that the plasticy feel oh the phone actually makes it more durable against hard falls compared to apples iphone with its strong firm build of the device makes it more vulnerable when it comes to hard falls because the phone is actually pressurized to the point where one little fall can cause major damage to the iphone. so from that ill take a plastic feel of a phone against iphone build quality

...and I might return it. I really am not terribly impressed with it. ICS is cool and all but I would much rather have a bone stock ICS ROM running on my Epic Touch. My biggest complaint about it, besides how narrow the screen is, is that games just don't run nearly as smooth on it as they do on the E4GT. I know it has a weaker GPU, but I didn't realize it wasn't powerful enough to run Riptide GP without dropping frames all the time. Pretty disappointing, TBQH. Verizon has an extended buyers remorse period because of the holidays. I am going to hang on to it till Jan 14th and give it a serious chance but so far it's not looking good.
edit: Oh yeah, I HATE how the home/back/tasks soft keys persist even when playing games. That's the main reason why I returned my Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus, and I can't tell you how disappointed I am that they are still there in ICS.
Such a shame that the Galaxy Nexus is such a let down. My friend has one so I played around with his for an hour or so. There was some choppiness during transitions here and there. Only reason I'd pick it over an Epic Touch is because it's a Nexus device. But since it's not available for Sprint it's not a phone I'd buy.
It has the gpu of the galaxy s1, that may explain why it doesn't hum like our phone. The ti processor is very good, perhaps >= exynos but the gpu kills it.
Only thing I love is the screen (except that the on screen buttons can't be toggled) and ICS, seems like the colors are more real. In every other aspect, I have to go with the S2 (minus the tmo and skyrocket variants)

I can't stand the lack of search button and the lack of a menu button. I felt like I was using a Pre or iPhone, I couldn't find out where the flippin' options were easily (I know that most have a little menu button in the top corner, but that's not apparent to me). Try to get to settings quickly? you can't without finding that app for settings. I also found it pretty laggy compared to my E4GT.
I do like the core app GUI changes, however. Very nice. The phone itself though....meh.

The 4 is an A2 CPU and idk what gpu its running. The 4s is running an A3, is dual core, and beefier gpu. The iPad 1 and iPhone 4 use the same CPU, that's why there are jailbreaks available for them. IPad 2 and iPhone 4s share the same CPU. Its speculated its clocked higher on the pad. There also isn't a jailbreak for the A3 powered devices. There's no difference in hardware between the carriers of the same model phone. All 4 are the same and all 4S are the same.
I had a 4S for a couple of months on sprint before coming back to Android. I did some homework before and during owning the phone too.
I understand aosp is different than touchwiz. One alternative I could suggest is to get the et4g. Root, recovery and no ciq it after updating to ek02. After that, run sprint id and choose the clean pack. That is a bare bones setup, stockish launcher, and no touchwiz. Then go into the system/app directory and do something like add ".old" to the end of the apk of the bloatware and touchwiz crap. Now you have a pseudo asop looking ROM with the bloat rem'd out.

About the only thing i saw skimming that wouldn't make it for sure is the screen.
Doubling the ram isnt crazy at all. 12MP while not even desirable due to image noise is pretty low considering the HTC Titan II and others are sporting 16MP sensors. 2 Ghz A9 dual core is available pushing it a little but hey.
12 megapixels actually can be pretty good. It isnt all about megapixels. My wife has a 500 dollar Canon that is only 14. I am pretty sure our 8 megapixel is better than a lot of phones.
On my Epic mobile phone.
I think that is the Sprint LTE phone to get. My SGS2E4GT will last me until there is LTE in my area. By then the GNex will be old news. SGS3 will be my upgrade.
I hated 3D. I got an EVO 3D before and is not good watching a full movie. It hurts your eye. Why not change the screen size to match the galaxy note.
Rumors or not that image is awesome..
Go a little stronger on the radios this time Samsung... kthx.
Reality S3 probably:
1.5 Quadcore - 12MP Camera - 16/32GB - 2GB Ram
Wishful S3:
2.5GB Quadcore - 16MP camera - 32/64GB - 2/3GB Ram
What will make me say WOW is if I could replace my laptop and be able to handle medium to light heavy processing power of a laptop (probably s4)... Until then it's business as usual.

Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII EPIC 4g Touch on XDA Premium!
We have to remember we're dealing with a phone manufacturer AND processor maker here. It all depends on which route Samsung decides to go with their processors...the Nvidia route, and racing to add more cores; or the qualcomm route, and trying to improve and refine their dual cores. Both ways offer benefits.

How is that old technology. I would say its cutting edge. There is only one phone out that uses a quad core and its a Tegra 3 not a Exynos. Exynos is supposed to be way more powerful. Also since Nvidia and qualcomm had a falling out ( from my understanding ) its not even available in the US. Quad core with 20% lower power consumption, bigger HD screen and 12 mp camera alone makes me want it bad.
Im super excited for this! I dont think the next nexus will be all that to be honest. The Nexus has never really stood for groundbreaking technology and if Sammy makes it your probably looking at the chip that will be in it lol. The benchmarks on the S3 look amazing thoughleaps and bounds better than anything out their currently. And we still dont know the GPU yet. I think so far its pretty much demolished my chance at getting the evo 4g lte. Unless they do something crazy like throw an S4 in the Sprint version.

Because an A9 chip doesn't mean crap, it's old tech. And the Mali400 was already old with the S2 came out, why the heck are they using it again. It's not going to perform much differently than this phone aside from some big HD games, the only difference youre looking at is probably some sharper pictures and a nicer screen.
Well, it comes down to this....
Samsung quad core(older technology doubled)(like a nice 1988 Iroc Z28)
HTC dual core(new tech)(like a finely tuned Audi A3 turbo)
Motorola Tegra 3(a new Mustang....not a cobra)
Where is the Ferrari?(Quad Core Krait)
I am on the fence. I bet HTC drains slower. Motorola might have one huge battery(3300). Samsung has a better screen and pictures.

http://www.techradar.com/news/phone...als-the-galaxy-s3-quad-core-processor-1077741
Further reading has confirmed my speculations. Sounds like we won't get the quad core in the USA. We will be getting a qualcomm chip. Maybe the same chip in the HTC EVO LTE.
Same here. There was always one phone I really wanted... like the E4GT. But since I don't upgrade for months, I'll stick it out for the next Nexus device, at least to see what it is or isn't

eh, if they have s4 next year for 400ish i might buy one out right
I'm using this phone until it doesn't work anymore. Can't imagine why I'd need anything faster. It does everything I want it to do....and well.

Cool story bro. The Note II still demolishes this phone and does everything this phone does 100x better. Everyday I play with and activate them for customers at work and it makes me cry on the inside.

i agree and disagree
t989 is still plenty fast, note 2 is faster, but thats a given
my issue with t989 is that the battery is really crap...after a full year of use the battery wont even last 3 hours screen on, so i figured id let my mom use it for voice only (which still goes on for days)

Yea I was just updating the GSIIIs in my store to 4.1.1. Much smoother than ICS. Although they still stutter and spurt a bit. Although I think that might be due to the crappy demo software T-Mobile loads floor models with lol. You can definitely tell with the notification toggles. They're were choppy on ICS, much smoother on JB.
And yes I agree with your s4 move. I believe Sammy may be putting their dual core a15 exynos/Mali t604 in it. I'm gonna pass on all phones this gen and wait for that. Its monster!! Have you seen the Nexus 10 in action?

Oops! Lol. I kinda thought that after I posted it....but too lazy to worry about it!
I have been eyeballing the Note 2, whats this about an S4 though? I would love the power of the Note 2, in a smaller package. The SGS2 is the perfect size. The Note even in my hands is huge.
The S3 wasn't enough of an improvement over the S2 to be worth it in my eyes. If the S4 shares some of the specs from the Note 2, like perhaps a Quad core CPU, 2 Gb of RAM, and an HD screen. I'm in.
Thought about switching but the phone just seems to big for my day to day use.
I was thinking about the s3, note 2 or waiting for the s4.
So how does compare in holding the s2 in hand vs the note 2

if sgs2 size is your thing
xiaomi m2 or nexus 4 would be your best bet(id go with the n4 tho)
edit:
LOL thought you meant s4 as in snapdragon s4
ya, the s4 coming out next year will rock provided they actually give it:
2-4x cortex a15 cpu in big little config
mali t658
4gb ram, 64gb nand and that 4.99inch 1080p display

From what I've gathered the Galaxy SIV will sport a 5 inch 1080p SAMOLED screen, a quad core A15 architecture Exynos 5 chip possibly coupled with the Mali t658 GPU. Samsung is really trying to knock it out of the park with the GSIV. Can't wait for spring!

Not to mention if your on t-mobile , they are rolling out LTE in 2013 so you might want to hold off on a phone that's actually compatible with it. I'll bet the S4 will be.

I believe that the TMO Note 2 already has latent LTE bands that will be activated via OTA upon the network launch / roll-out.
Anyone else underwhelmed with Galaxy S4 news? Hopefully some of the UI tweaks make their way to the Note II but otherwise Note II better than the S4. Matter of fact the S4 looks like a mini version of the Note II.

Not really. Although it may look the same it has about the same or best features as the one. This phone is great and for those that have a note 2 it may not be that much of an update but for s3 owners it's a decent upgrade. But with lots of the software updates from s4 coming to s3 this phone is more of a phone for those trying Sammy for the first time. In the end this phone is a sure competition to the htc one.

I hope we get the samsung hub that would be great everything else will come in time with custom roms. Well all but the motion stuff and air view probably. I agree Ill stick with my note2 unless it has the octa5 but we all know it wont

I personally don't see the upgrade for S3 owners but definitely see it for S2 owners. I was hoping for more wow factor since the S series and Note series are typically pretty close to each other save a few small differences.
If this is what Samsung will put out in 2013, I'm waiting until the Note 4.

I have the S2 but I don't know.. I don't really see the need to have all those features. Plus the US variant not having OCTA is a deal breaker for me. The Exynos Chip is amazing.

This. S3 users will be pretty silly to get this upgrade unless money is no object for them. I do like a few this though. The white version for example is not just white it looks like it has a textured face. And the Window for the flip cover. The biggest update would be the AC wifi. I wish the Note 2 had that.
Also anyone catch that it has an IR LED? That's sweet if it does.

Im curious to see if the s4 can be rooted easily because of the new Samsung knox software. It seems like its gonna be hard to flash roms and such cause the features of knox is to shut the phone down if unauthorized software is found. Also the kernel has secure boot on it. Any thoughts on this guys?

A deal breaker? Please explain why you need an 8 core chip and what it will do that the quad cores won't?

Yeah I agree. Tje snapdragon 600 is one hell if a chip. It is benchmarking better than the exynos 5 octa

I'm really disappointed that they didn't focus on improving design and build quality. I love my Note 2 but will definitely hold out if the Note 3 is just a spec'd up update. It's awesome that the battery is removable and a SD card can be used, but I really believe they could used more premium parts in place of the chrome strip and plastic cover. If struggling HTC is capable of creating a gorgeously designed phone, then Samsung -with all it's resources and money - can definitely design a well-crafted, premium device.
But I am looking forward to the Note 3 and the new features the device will include. I just hope the device doesn't get any bigger (if it does, i hope it's not significantly noticeable) and includes more premium parts. Can you imagine the Note with an aluminum, removable battery cover and a premium chrome belt?
The plastic adds less weight and makes the screen less prone to breaking. I have dropped my phone numerous of times and never had to replace my screen. More weigh equals more weight which equals more mass and force when you drop your phone.
I believe Samsung's goal is to make their phone light and durable. If I had a choice of either protecting my screen or my phone cover I rather had a phone with some nicks than a cracked screen.

13 MP back facing camera, internal storage space of up to 64GB, 1.9 GHz Snapdragon cpu. It's a little better than ours LOL
The Smart Scroll feature is pretty cool. I also like that it can tell if you are watching a video and if you look away from the screen it will auto pause. It comes with 4.2.2 so hopefully it can be easily ported to our Note II

this is exactly how i feel. people with a Note 1 or S2 can jump on, but if you have a S3 or Note 2, you'll be just fine this year.

Exynos chip is more optimized . Having it in the s2 you should know. Use the US variant of the s3 vs the international, it is just smoother with the exynos. So that's why its a deal breaker. Not going to settle for less. I really don't care for LTE.
