Hi
My brother have sg3 from rogers,.. i did root on it and installed twrp ,.. we were thinking about flashing custom JB ROM, but official came out yesterday.
can we safely do OTA update, or we have to un-root it and get rid of twrp (even though i dont know how yet) )
Thanks
Not sure if you need to be unrooted, but you definitely need to be on stock rom and stock recovery.
ROM is stock, but have twrp ,... hmmm
how can i get back to stock recovery?
There is an odin package that has just the stock recovery over in dev section

Hey, I was wondering if only rooting my phone ( I still have the stock rom ) would prevent my phone from receiving OTA updates? My wife and I bought our phones at the same time, mine was even activated first, and her OTA update, which includes the wifi calling, came tonight, and I haven't seen mine.
So I was just curious if it is still going to come eventually, or if I need to just flash the updated version of the stock rom? Thanks
You will get the update regardless of what rom or recovery or rooted or unrooted.
Now in order to install it ota you need stock rom and stock recovery though. If you rooted and installed cwm recovery then you need to flash stock recovery.
If your rooted. On stock rom. And stock recovery(like I was) then no worries just install away.

I am running stock EL29 gingerbread ROM with CWM recovery 5.0.2.7 by team Rogue. Just trying to get stock recovery back to update OTA to new official ICS release. If there is an easier way using CWM recovery from stock 2.3 then I am willing to give that a shot as well. If any ROM developers have put out a custom ROM close to stock ICS let me know as well. I'm gonna try to survive the OTA update after I get my stock recovery back but if not what is the word on rooting the official ICS release? Will mobile Odin work or do I need to use Windows 7? Thanks allot for any help I really appreciate it.
bump
I too would like to know.

If you want you should be able to apply the OTA .zip from CWM - but you will lose root and cannot run any restores unless you go back to GB first.
As for root it may take a little bit. If I understand the process correctly OTA has to have root applied where it will stick when flashed, clean the phone to stock EL29, flash the OTA, repack the phone contents and tar it up so that you can flash by ODIN. It also is unknown how different (if at all) the OTA is from the previously leaked FF18. So far the modem appears to match but that's as far as I got.
Once it gets to .tar format you should be able to do all but the modem by Mobile Odin.
I used Sfhub's Auto Root Package and clicked the stock EL29 option instead of the EL29 + CWM rogue option that I had used to get CWM. Super fast, super easy, and got rid of CWM for me.

BTW I posted a modifed FF18 OTA which can be run directly from EL29+CWM.
There are 2 versions (both rooted), one with FF18+CWM-agat-src and another with stock kernel/recovery

Hey guys, just got my GS3 a little while ago. I flashed to a Odin Rooted Touchwiz ICS rom and got clockwork recovery. I then flashed AOKP and have been happy. Since Canadian carriers are releasing their jellybean stock roms tomorrow, I want to flash back to stock. Do I just flash the rooted touchwiz rom I did earlier with Odin? (I dont mind having the root)
Flash stock rom (either or back up....or older original stock). Flash stock recovery. Wait for update.

To root the phone I had to install CWM as the bootloader and then run a zip file to obtain root.
Because I installed a custom bootloader, I can't receive OTA updates anymore so I can't get the S3 Premium Suite update.
How can I revert to the original bootloader and maintain my root? Can I just flash the original bootloader with Odin?
Any advice would be appreciated.

No you installed a custom recovery not a boot loader.
Because you installed a custom ROM you can't get updates
To get the original RECOVERY you need to flash a stock ROM thru Odin, and to update anything stock you need to remove root to get any Kies updates or else youll get errors.
And even so I don't think the ATT S3 has had the update to Premium Suite.
(Anyone can correct me on this one)
I think only international S3 has been updated to Premium suite

you are correct on all this, jayRokk.
OP, there is an unroot video guide near the bottom of post #2 in the link in my thread. the stock, unrooted firmware can be located in the android development section.
Im on stock image 4.3 with root. I just installed TWRP 2.8.6.0 version for 4.3 . As I was looking at the rom's the majority of them want me to be on bootloader 4.2 or 4.4 before I can use the rom. What is the safest and easiest way to get there? the last time I modded a phone was with my HD2.
sorry for the noob question. I have been out of the loop for a while.
Thanks

If I goto sammobile to download N900TUVUENK3 and flash it with odin would that give me the boat loader I need? also would I need to upgrade twrp at that point? is there a document that covers this? any help would be appreciated.
Yes just be total stock 4.3 then flash the N900TUVUENK3 rom using odin and you will be able to flash any 4.2, 4.4, or 5.0 rom available. You just have to be 100% stock to do it including recovery. After you install the new rom then you can root it and install any custom recovery you want. Thats what I did. Revert to total stock, flashed the NK3 rom, rooted, then installed recovery. After that you will have a 4.2. bootloader and will be to install any rom out there. Hope this helps you out.
