Youmean being able to use the Internet while on a call?
I don't think you need to do anything special for that. Mine works fine on the Bell Canada HSDPA network.

If you mean being able to use internet during a call, it depends on your carrier and the wireless technology they use.
If your carrier uses cdma technology (e.g. Verizon), then you cant, as cdma does not support voice and packet service simultaneously.
If wcdma is used, then you can used both voice and packet service at the same time.

That's weird, because I'm on Verizon and have used Chrome several times during a phone call.

Thanks for reply.
Is that you mean this is the network operator problem, not Note 2 (phone) problem?
But I tried to use the same network operator (in my country called DIGI, my current phone line) with IPhone, it work fine!!
But, when I put the same SIM card into Note 2, it does not 'always' work!! I mean sometime it work, most of the time it does not work!!

Hmm i got a galaxy s 1 and soon note 2 .
Now on my galaxy s it works when i already whs browsing the web
So if i use the internet and get call i can still browse but if im not using the internet and get a call it 70% of the times goes off until the end of the call.
Check to see if thats the case in ur note 2, use the internet and call from home or ask a buddy to call u .

Your area may have bad 3g connection (3g,H,H+) and signal will drop to only GSM (GPRS/EDGE). In GSM mode you cannot make calls and use data connection at the same time.
Try changing your network connection to only WCDMA and retest.

This is wrong. There is no T-Mobile-specific “Wi-Fi calling” available for the GN, at least not at this time. If you want to make calls over the Internet, you either need to use an app or the VoIP/”Internet Calling” that’s built into Android—and more information on the latter is available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583120.
My bad - totally didn't realize this was the GNex forum. Damn tapatalk

Is there a way to do this and if not is there a way to do by rooting the phone? What is the best and simplest way to root the phone if need be. Like a stock root by just rooting it without flashing new ROMS.
I have decent 4G LTE coverage like 2 or 3 bars but my 3G coverage is like 3 to 4 bars so it keeps switching over to 3G. When I am in the right spot like upstairs rather than downstairs the 4G LTE is blazing fast. If I had a program to keep it on 4G LTE downstairs that would be great.
Dialer>*#*#4636#*#*> phone information> scroll down and choose lte only from the menu
Hope it helps

That won't stick.
And you can't force LTE only even with root.
LTE is data only, how are you going to receive calls and texts?
Dialer>*#*#4636#*#*> You have to have MSL number which I can't get on the Galaxy Nexus Sprint Version. And also I heard that it does not give you an LTE only option just the same one in the system [LTE / GSM].
Also I don't care whether I can make or receive calls. When I just want to use the phone for DATA at the moment I use Foxfi so I can just use it as a wifi hot spot. When I am done I can put it back on to 3G.
Anyone know how to get the MSL number for Sprint Galaxy Nexus?
Also you are telling me with root or no root there is no way to force the phone to stay on 4G LTE? I find that hard to believe and if it is that is sad.
It is not possible to do LTE only on this device.
Why is that? Can anyone create an APP for it or is it hardware?

Is there no way to build a ROM/kernel from AOSP that has the CDMA radio disabled? does the LTE radio require the CDMA radio to be transmitting?
Exactly, I mean if the radio can be on 4G and not 3G why can it not stay on 4G? Is it still on 3G when it shows its on 4G like on both of them on at the same time? And if that is the case can you force the weaker 4g as primary and leave 3G on in the background?
Anything at all here? Will some of the apps on the market work for the Nexus? What if I get msl code and use 4G only in that? Has anyone tested that?

It uses 3G and 4G concurrently, if not how are you going to receive calls and texts?
Like I already said, changing it to LTE only in the *#*#4636#*#* menu won't stick, regardless of whether you are rooted or not.

part 2 still stands.
Yes I do not care about voice calls. If I want to download a movie or something I do not have to have calls during that time. So has anyone found any new information or app that will perform this function to Force 4G on the Galaxy Nexus? Again I do not care about Voice Calls.

All the Mifi hotspots can be set to do LTE only. This should definitely be possible especially since support for voice through data is right around corner.
Okay I rooted my phone, and got MSL code, but now when I go through all the settings I still do not have LTE only setting just hybrid as my last option. I have been reading some forums and some people with Sprint phones have LTE only option. Is this true? Do I need a paticular ROM? Anyone figure this out or have any idea?
Best,

This works on my Galaxy Victory for Virgin Mobile.. it does mean you can't recieve calls but I use it anyway..
Download an app in play store called "Show Service Mode" - costs a little $
Open the app
Select the third box to create a shortcut
Go back to the main screen and click the new shortcut
Select LTE band preference
Then select LTE ALL
DONE!!!
To switch back to normal open the same shortcut and choose automatic
I have a GS3 with T-Mobile prepaid (60 a month) my Simultaneous Voice and Data is not working? is this a problem with the prepaid service? the Simultaneous Voice and Data will work for a few min's then cut off and i cant get data back until i end the call im on.
I'm running Cm10 Nightlights
I was on Simple mobile and had the same problem.
is this a phone problem, service problem, ROM problem? i thought T-Mobile supported Simultaneous Voice and Data?

Hello All,
I am trying to edit the build.prop to enable data during calls in my N7100 (UK O2 network). I added ro.ril.enable.dtm=1 to the build.prop file, rebooted the phone and phone hang on the Samsung logo. Anybody know how it should be done?
Thanks guys.
It's not recommended to use data during calls.
To get out of logo hang try flashing stock rom.

Thanks for the rpely UtkarshGupta. I've already restored my device from backup, but it will be great to know why I cannot use data during calls.
Don't know exactly about it but my network provider does not allow it either , I tried it on s2 but outcome was fail. Have you ever seen it on any other phone that uses data during call bcoz I think its something related to network provider as my s2 booted without sim card.

I read on several threads that GSM networks allow data and voice at the same time and CDMA doesn't. I am in GSM and surprised I cant change the build.prop for this.
Is it not a network restriction.... Some networks allow it and some don't?
Edit: I can call and use data simultaneously using EE with my note 2.
This is while using 3g/hsdpa. It may not work on gsm/gprs

however if your network changes to 2g or from 3g to hsdpa Youll loose data altogether until you end your call I'm same network, same phone. and it drives me nuts using Navigation + phone at the same time

At&t allows call and data in the USA. I haven't tried it on my note2 yet though. I hope it is not restricted by Samsung.

I would call my service provider and ask about this, I've never had any issues with this, and pretty certain that I've used data and navigation constantly switching between modes while in calls.
I think it's pretty obvious that there is no limitation in the note 2 itself regarding this.

Does anybody know if it works on t-mobile? Googled it and could only find an answer from 2007 saying it didn't back then but this is 2013 so I was wondering if it has changed since then. I have seen the build prop tweak (ro.ril.enable.dtm=1) for this to enable it in different threads but was just curious if it actually works on tmobile.

What exactly is Dual transfer mode?
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda premium
Dual Transfer Mode (DTM) is a protocol based on the GSM standard that makes simultaneous transfer of Circuit switched (CS) voice and Packet switched (PS) data over the same radio channel (ARFCN) simpler. Without DTM, the mobile device must be capable of reception and transmission simultaneously (full-duplex) requiring complex and expensive circuitry in the mobile terminal. With DTM this requirement doesn't exist and makes the device implementation simpler and cheaper. DTM is a 3GPP feature introduced in R4 of the specification series.

I just tried it out on my phone. I set it to LTE/GSM only and whenever I made a call, it would drop off LTE and go to edge. When I set it to LTE/WCDMA/GSM, it would drop off LTE and join 4G when I made a call. I don't know why it does that though.
