Using my phone I have tried different methods of installing the latest VanijEclair on my Tilt. However ever since I installed everything on Nand including data I have noticed that I have awsome battery life on a fresh install. I am using 2G all the time also but even with 3G on I get a little better battery life when installed strickly on Nand.
Before I settled on this method I tried installing Sys on Nand and Data on SD and I would go to work have to recharge at the end of the day because my phone would just die. The only thing that I can think of is that even when the phone is off the sdcard is constantly reading and writing data sucking down precious battery power throught the day.
Although when installing strictly on Nand you don't receive the benefits of more space you do gain speed I think as my phone is pretty smooth so far.
Has anyone experienced this?
My view is this, when we flash the NBH, it creates 4 partitions in nand, one for boot, one for system, one for data, and one for cache, ( I think that's correct, please let me know if I'm wrong), anyway, if we install sys on nand, data on SD, what happens to the /data partition on nand? Is it magically transformed into RAM or something else? No, it just sits there doing nothing, you could hack the partition sizes to free up more space on system, by 'stealing' it from the redundant /data partition, but that has no real benefit either, apart from being able to install huge experimental builds, like a hero/sense one I'm playing with, ( no it won't boot, and it's so old it has cobwebs on /system/media).
So why waste that space, I've always used sys and data on nand, and tried to control my bad habit of downloading every damn widget and app i like, because I'm really only going to use once, or maybe twice, and battery life is something that 'improves' with use anyway, ( it's called battery calibration, the longer you use a build, the better the battery calibration gets).
I do think that the ideal set up would be similar to the one I use on my G1, sys and data on nand, ( naturally), sd card partitioned 64,512 swap/ext2, the remaining space fat32, use apps2sd and either swapper2 or enable swap from spare parts, (some builds have that option, unsure if it works on kais tho, something else to play with if I get the time).
The reason why battery life is worse using SD may be that is just less efficient anyway, it's certainly slower, and ties you to that SD card, which is usually fine, but occasionally like to transfer data, and removing the SD is possible if it does not contain part of the OS
SDcard show up under battery, surprising since there is no sd card in a galaxy nexus..
Anybody know what's going wrong or how to stop the battery drain ??
I've had this exact same issue! It happened at the same time as my other issue of app sizes continuing to climb upwards and the phone getting laggier in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715363
I just resorted to a factory reset, which resolved the problem. Sorry I can't be of much help, as I still have no idea what the issue is, but it was definitely taking a noticeable toll on my battery life.

I would be concerned of what you have installed on your device, that it is calling itself sdcard.
Nexus internal sdcard is mostly named just sdcard, but this is first time i see it in battery stats. Maybe it's some bad app? Maybe you should uninstall apps one by one and see if it's go away.

Nexus does not have an internal sdcard and symlinks cannot use battery so I would say its an app.

I mean that 16gb internal storage which is called sdcard in most apps. And i know that it can't be in battery stats, that's why i said it's an app.
Same problem, a solution without having to do a factory reset?
Anyone come up with a solution here?
So I'm guessing the lack of responses in this thread (and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792361&highlight=sdcard+battery) means no one has any idea why SDcard usage would be so high?
Maybe it is not the amount of power that sd card uses, it is amount of power that the phone uses to read the sd card. If you did lots of things that needs reading from sd card, battery show that kind of information. Some program with wrong commands may couse this

Thats what I figured but there shouldnt be anything thats accessing it, especially overnight in sleep mode, the SDcard has more CPU usage time than any other app, by a landslide.
Have you looked at your running apps? (Settings>Apps>Running)
Maybe you can find out what app may be running called "sdcard".
Sounds a bit fishy. While there is no physically removable SD card, the phones internal memory is partitioned so you have some space which is recognized as the 'sdcard'.
In any case I've never seen anything like that in my battery drain, and even if there was, it definitely shouldn't be draining those amounts while the phone is idle..

I've gone through them but can't seem to figure out whats going on...i've also run logcat but that hasnt turned up any useful info either.
And when you press on sdcard under the battery usage, what screen shows up? Does it say it's an app? Could you provide a screen shot?

Here are screenshots from my battery usage, after clicking on the app, and my build info. I've got the same thing and its completely eating my battery life. This was within 1 hour of use.
This just started happening to my galaxy nexus -- no idea why?
GSAM Battery Monitor shows System (sdcard) running at 17% and its really affecting battery life, I can actually watch the number drain by the minute.
I am not looking to do a factory reset again and I am running Bugless Beast 4.1.1 rom and have been for about 2 months now and never had this problem, anyone have any idea what could cause this?
Just started happening to me today. I just installed lookout so I hope that is the problem. Just uninstalled it to see if that was the culprit.
I'm 100% certain Google Music is causing mine.
Mine always says sdcard and media are the processes running that are eating my battery.
I can reboot and fix the issue, temporarily, but as soon as I play Google Music it starts back. I'm going to clear data and cache (for Google Music only). Now that I think about it this has been happening since Google Music's last update ~1 month ago.
I'm running the latest Trinity kernel and RasBeanJelly, but this happened while on Bugless Beast as well, so it's not a kernel/ROM issue either.
In a previous post I wrote about an issue I was having with battery drain, that I was somewhat able to fix. After switching over to FI03 I noticed the drain wasn't so bad but obvious. The only way I can get a full days charge on my phone is to go into task manager and close every application before I put my phone in stand by and set it down. Surely this can't be right, isn't that is what stand by is supposed to do, suspend those apps I was using until I wake the phone again? Maybe there's some other app that will do this automatically, or some fix I'm missing. I know there's a million "battery drain" threads, I'm just wondering since I've isolated issue and am able to recreate it, is there a way to fix it?
UPDATE: Listed below

Just use the kies update FH13
UPDATE: I found again, as in my previous post I mentioned, if I remove the SD card I'm not getting the battery drain, I can even leave all those same apps running like previously. So I'm getting two different things that are solving my battery drain. How can I diagnose the issues based on the two resolutions 1) shutting down all my tasks before I click the home screen off and 2) taking my SD card? Between those 2 issues it should make it easier to figure out what the problem is. Any ideas?
Use programs like better battery stats and system panel lite to narrow down the problem. A fresh installation from scratch always helps too.
Thanks for the tips, anyone else?
Put your SD card back in your phone after backing up anything you want to keep from it, and format it. It should fix your battery issue. There is a bug with our phone (maybe other phones?) with the SD card causing battery drain.
I have updated my rooted S3 using mobile Odin and now I am experiencing severe battery draining. I believe this is caused by the Media application. In the media app the packages included are com.sec.android.providers.downloads, DRM Protected Content Storage, Downloads and Media Storage. I can force stop it but when the phone is turned off it will start again and the battery will drain fast (10% an hour). Can someone help me figure out how to fix this issue? I have already cleared cache for each package and that didnt help.
Possible solution to the problem
I found a possible solution to my issue. Go to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012452.
I know search before asking right?
I'm having a similar issue, but after monitoring it over the last few days I haven't found anything that stood out as consuming more than average battery and nothing accounts for the amount I'm losing. It will hold steady and drain normally, then will drain about 10% an hour or more steadily. When it starts I run OS monitor, but as I said nothing stands out.

I'm having a similar issue but it is Maps draining my battery and not Media. I am trying the suggestion I read elsewhere of clearing the cache on Maps and uninstalling all updates, then re-install updates. I guess this has worked for some people.
For the Media issue I have read that it is corrupt media files on your SD card that may cause the issue. Try removing your SD card from your phone for a day or so and see if the issue goes away. People have also said formatting your SD card after deleting all the files has resolved the issue as well.

I had/have a similar issue with maps taking up battery. I tried uninstalling updates and clearing cache, and it seemed to work. But then I saw people say this is only a temporary fix. Sure enough a day later maps popped up taking up 16%-20% of my battery.
You should star and comment/read through this thread and try to get others with the issue to as well, maybe Google will finally listen up. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=34458

Already had done that, thanks. The weird thing is, I didn't have this issue until I did the 4.1.1 update, on 4.0.4 it was fine.
Update
I have used my fix above and I am happy to report that my battery drain is now solved. I have been using the phone for several days and I have no abnormal battery drainage. Try it out and see if it helps the battery draining issue.
having the same issue, after I updated to jb.
not sure what is consuming the battery. thank you for posting the link! I will check it out!
Why is my android system taking so much power all of a sudden? Worrying.
Welcome to the sad party We have been discussing this in the OTA update thread as well. I've never had Android even close to Screen usage before. Now it's constantly there. And sadly no root for greenify or wakelock viewing.
Mine just started this after a very long charge. Plugged it up at like 9:00 am and it just finished about 10 minutes ago, very strange. It seems to be going back down to normal though.....
It's been higher since the last OTA update. Hopefully it will be fixed when lollipop gets released.
That happens to me on the original build maybe once a month. I just restart my phone and it goes back to normal.
Android System battry drain after OTA update
I haven't read through the other forums, so forgive me if I'm suggesting something that's been suggested elsewhere, but I was able to fix mine by disabling HDVoice..
Settings>Data Usage>Mobile Data>Enhanced 4G LTE Services
After I unchecked that I'm back to where I was pre-OTA.
All of you having Android System running at high %'s, can you answer two questions?
1) When you go to Settings> General > Battery and tap on the graph, does your Awake graph show as mostly awake (solid blue lines) when the screen is off (no lines next to Screen On)?
2) Do you have an external SD card in your phone?
I'm asking because I'm also having high Android System battery drain. My phone is also always "Awake" according to the battery graph (in other words, it isn't deep sleeping, so my battery is draining faster than it should). I just removed my external SD card for a while and now my phone is magically deep sleeping. Well, obviously not using your SD card is not an option for many people... myself included... all my music is on mine! So I'm trying a few things to allow me to keep my card in and to have my phone deep sleep. I'm just wondering if there's any similarities between me and anyone else.
UPDATE:
OK, so what I did worked.
If you have an external SD card, then do this:
1) In Settings>Applications>SD Card, I moved any checked apps to internal storage.
2) I then copied all my music, photos, videos, etc to my computer.
3) Then, with the SD card in the phone, I went to Settings>Storage and formatted the SD card.
4) I then copied the files from (2) back to the card.
After that, your phone should not only sleep better, but Android System should begin to move down the battery usage list after many hours. Just over night, it went from about 38% usage to 20% usage and is now #2 on the list. Cell Standby is now #1. By the end of the day, I expect it be even lower.

awake matches almost identical to screen time,
And i haven't tried the sd card one, although i've gotten a new one.
Anyone try this with success?

It worked for me (obviously), but it wasn't exactly meant to be a solution for everyone. Eventually, Android System became the highest drainer again, but on Lollipop, it no longer is. Again, that's for me.
Try removing the card and leaving the phone asleep (screen off and not doing anything) for a few hours. If the awake time decreases dramatically, then it may be the SD card causing problems.
