SDcard show up under battery, surprising since there is no sd card in a galaxy nexus..
Anybody know what's going wrong or how to stop the battery drain ??
I've had this exact same issue! It happened at the same time as my other issue of app sizes continuing to climb upwards and the phone getting laggier in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1715363
I just resorted to a factory reset, which resolved the problem. Sorry I can't be of much help, as I still have no idea what the issue is, but it was definitely taking a noticeable toll on my battery life.

I would be concerned of what you have installed on your device, that it is calling itself sdcard.
Nexus internal sdcard is mostly named just sdcard, but this is first time i see it in battery stats. Maybe it's some bad app? Maybe you should uninstall apps one by one and see if it's go away.

Nexus does not have an internal sdcard and symlinks cannot use battery so I would say its an app.

I mean that 16gb internal storage which is called sdcard in most apps. And i know that it can't be in battery stats, that's why i said it's an app.
Same problem, a solution without having to do a factory reset?
Anyone come up with a solution here?
So I'm guessing the lack of responses in this thread (and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792361&highlight=sdcard+battery) means no one has any idea why SDcard usage would be so high?
Maybe it is not the amount of power that sd card uses, it is amount of power that the phone uses to read the sd card. If you did lots of things that needs reading from sd card, battery show that kind of information. Some program with wrong commands may couse this

Thats what I figured but there shouldnt be anything thats accessing it, especially overnight in sleep mode, the SDcard has more CPU usage time than any other app, by a landslide.
Have you looked at your running apps? (Settings>Apps>Running)
Maybe you can find out what app may be running called "sdcard".
Sounds a bit fishy. While there is no physically removable SD card, the phones internal memory is partitioned so you have some space which is recognized as the 'sdcard'.
In any case I've never seen anything like that in my battery drain, and even if there was, it definitely shouldn't be draining those amounts while the phone is idle..

I've gone through them but can't seem to figure out whats going on...i've also run logcat but that hasnt turned up any useful info either.
And when you press on sdcard under the battery usage, what screen shows up? Does it say it's an app? Could you provide a screen shot?

Here are screenshots from my battery usage, after clicking on the app, and my build info. I've got the same thing and its completely eating my battery life. This was within 1 hour of use.
This just started happening to my galaxy nexus -- no idea why?
GSAM Battery Monitor shows System (sdcard) running at 17% and its really affecting battery life, I can actually watch the number drain by the minute.
I am not looking to do a factory reset again and I am running Bugless Beast 4.1.1 rom and have been for about 2 months now and never had this problem, anyone have any idea what could cause this?
Just started happening to me today. I just installed lookout so I hope that is the problem. Just uninstalled it to see if that was the culprit.
I'm 100% certain Google Music is causing mine.
Mine always says sdcard and media are the processes running that are eating my battery.
I can reboot and fix the issue, temporarily, but as soon as I play Google Music it starts back. I'm going to clear data and cache (for Google Music only). Now that I think about it this has been happening since Google Music's last update ~1 month ago.
I'm running the latest Trinity kernel and RasBeanJelly, but this happened while on Bugless Beast as well, so it's not a kernel/ROM issue either.

Hi All,
I created this thread as I can't post at the developers section yet, however I noticed a huge battery drain after I flashed TermaROM and used DT A2SD, I never encountered this problem before when I was on a BancetDEV ROM using Link2SD (as BancetDEV DT A2SD is a buggy after installing several apps). I can also say that this applies to Creed's ROM when I tested it at version 2.1
Anyway, I got the same apps and widgets on my screen, wi-fi, data, 3G are all turned off, however I am losing battery so fast even at idle mode, whilst if I am playing music - using Player Pro - I am losing battery at average of 10 to 12% per hour, unlike before it was around 5 to 8%.
I am still investigating this and currently using better battery stats, however I hope anyone can also share experiences with battery drain on this ROM or maybe with DT A2SD overall.
Furthermore I already under-clock my CPU at 312 MHZ every time I turned off my screen, v6 supercharger, and definitely the battery is calibrated properly. I also searched the forum for possible answers but I can't find any nor in google lol or maybe I am just poor in searching for answers.
Additional Info: I know this is a hassle, however DT A2SD is better than link2sd, as link2sd got an issue w/ dalvik cache if your hoarding a lot of apps.
Update:
* I also got a battery level drop to 1% after reboot, but eventually it will go back to the correct value and battery level drop to 95-98% when disconnecting charger wherein its pretty normal so its not an issue, but maybe the level drop to 1% after reboot could be a related problem.
i think so too, battery drain when using A2SD by terma kernel
it might be...not sure thou..
but since you moved the app and data to ext..it takes more "juice" to retrieve them...specially if you have dalvik on ext too...
cause instead on the normal process..of android os retrieving data directly form phone it checks phone first and since no data on phone it checks ext..
then retrieccves it there...
unlike if no a2sd..
os-then phone back to os...
with a2sd
os-phone-ext-phone-os...
thanks for the reply guys, hope we can solve this issue or get an answer, by the way when I was using Player Pro it was installed in system memory not on sd-ext, including my widgets (battery widget monitor, system tuner), I look up at different post in here but I can't find anything in regard to DT A2SD excessive battery drain so it might be with the ROM itself?...
it depend in your memory card
ive got that battery drain too, overnight i sleep at 80% then after 6 hours it's 0%. then sometimes it just shut off itself. i stop using a2sd, my phone works just fine.
Via XDA App
be calm...thats totally normal. the system use a lot more power to read and run the app in the SD. thats the reason why your battery drain quickly when using this feature.

I also considered that aspect specifically in terms of reading / writing on the sd card, however even at idle mode it takes a lot of power? I just killed everything via android task manager, and running services doesn't state any third party apps running at this point, yet its still eating a lot of power....

thanks mate, guess I don't have a choice too lol, however its really weird as Link2SD doesn't take a lot of power, and as far as I know the only difference between A2SD and Link2SD is how they generated the symlink - as for symlink - Link2SD is creating a link for every item, whilst A2SD is creating a link for the whole folder itself (which might explain pulling up a single app takes a lot of power as its pulling up the whole folder that contains the app? lol)
Anyway the only advantage of A2SD is handling the dalvik cache and saving the hassle to relink dalvik cache during reboot.
EDIT: I apologize for double post
using a2sd script means you're not only move the 3rd party app to the sd. basicly you're also move all dalvik-cache in /data to your sdcard too. even you turn off your 3rd party app that doesn't mean you're not access your sdcard.
thanks for the reply guys, my phone got wipe out after testing different roms and a kernel that was being develop by someone here in xda, lol anyway guess its really eating a lot of resources on the background, although it can't be seen in the processes... hope we could have more answers soon
I've been using the P. A. C. man rom for about a month now but recently I lose about 20 percent drain per hour. Any tips
Are you over clocked?

I dont know. What is the standard speed and I'll check.
Looks like your phone it's locked on max clock of CPU. Get CPU spy app and check that out. Could be a case that your phone does not like that kernel you have on.

Before everyone reads too deeply into this, can we see the battery statistics of your phone (Settings -> Battery)? It'd probably also be helpful if you give BetterBatteryStats a spin.
I'm guessing that you have some rogue process which is running even when your phone is asleep, keeping it awake and eating your battery life. (If I had to make a more specific guess, I'd ask first if you've got a lot of media files on an external SD card - there's a bug in Jelly Bean et al that causes the media scanner to exhibit said sticking behaviour under those conditions.)

It was set to max when I checked it so I turned it down some. It helped with the hot battery.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I expected to see - you're running into the bug that I described.
The only surefire way I know of to avoid this completely with no other side effects is, well, to not give the media scanner service any files to get hung up on, i.e. to not have any media files on your external SD card.
There are a couple of other suggested fixes I've seen around - such as clearing cached data for the Media Storage app or using Titanium Backup to freeze the Media Storage app - but those either don't tend to stick or cause other side effects.
Sadly, I don't think there's much else you can do.

What side effects could it causes.. Some might be bearable.
It's GSam Battery Monitor, my phone drains from 100% to 95% in like 15 minutes. I found that one of the culprits was a Pansi SMS theme, and the other (the biggest one) was "Media", which drained 35% of the battery. The phone was kept awake for 7 minutes, and under included processes it says *wakelock* android.process.media.
Is there a way to stop this?

You can force stop media but that's temporally. You'll need to find which file is causing it (most likely one unreadable by your media player).
Could also be coming from your external sd card (if you have one).
Sadly sometimes the only solution is a full super wipe... did the trick for me (I needed to anyway)
Hmm...i do have an external sd card. But it's used for music video and downloads. There's no apps installed on it.
What do you mean by a super wipe? Is that different from a regular wipe? If not then I just did a cache/dalvik wipe a week ago.
How would I go about finding the file that's responsible for this?

Super wipe basically wipes everything of our internal card in other words going to TWRP and erasing data. Its basically just searching and searching on how to open the media so that's why its high.
Another option is to move all your pictures and videos and other downloads to your ext SD card. Then wipe data on the internal card and see if once you boot backup again and an hour or so of running if it isn't so high.
Ok so I got the Note 10.1 2014 edition as a christmas gift. It is working fine. The only thing that is wrong with it is the battery is dropping from 50% to like 8% in a matter of 5 min. Or when I power off my device at say 70% and turn it on, it is at like 3%. I do not understand that a battery can just drop like that. Should I return it? Try to fix it? What should I do? Please Help!!!!!!! Thanks in advance
I'd check it with an app like a better battery stats and see what's causing the drain. Have you also updated it?

I did do all the updates. I will try the Better Battery Stats
There is an indexing service that searches through your files and indexes the contents.
On initial startup, this can take a while and really eats into the battery. Once it's complete it should be OK though.
Unless it has found a corrupt file, then it just keeps running and draining the battery. If it has an SD card, then try removing it and see if the problem goes away. If it does then you might have a bad file and need to format the SD card.

Any new news about this problem? Having the same problem.
Why is my android system taking so much power all of a sudden? Worrying.
Welcome to the sad party We have been discussing this in the OTA update thread as well. I've never had Android even close to Screen usage before. Now it's constantly there. And sadly no root for greenify or wakelock viewing.
Mine just started this after a very long charge. Plugged it up at like 9:00 am and it just finished about 10 minutes ago, very strange. It seems to be going back down to normal though.....
It's been higher since the last OTA update. Hopefully it will be fixed when lollipop gets released.
That happens to me on the original build maybe once a month. I just restart my phone and it goes back to normal.
Android System battry drain after OTA update
I haven't read through the other forums, so forgive me if I'm suggesting something that's been suggested elsewhere, but I was able to fix mine by disabling HDVoice..
Settings>Data Usage>Mobile Data>Enhanced 4G LTE Services
After I unchecked that I'm back to where I was pre-OTA.
All of you having Android System running at high %'s, can you answer two questions?
1) When you go to Settings> General > Battery and tap on the graph, does your Awake graph show as mostly awake (solid blue lines) when the screen is off (no lines next to Screen On)?
2) Do you have an external SD card in your phone?
I'm asking because I'm also having high Android System battery drain. My phone is also always "Awake" according to the battery graph (in other words, it isn't deep sleeping, so my battery is draining faster than it should). I just removed my external SD card for a while and now my phone is magically deep sleeping. Well, obviously not using your SD card is not an option for many people... myself included... all my music is on mine! So I'm trying a few things to allow me to keep my card in and to have my phone deep sleep. I'm just wondering if there's any similarities between me and anyone else.
UPDATE:
OK, so what I did worked.
If you have an external SD card, then do this:
1) In Settings>Applications>SD Card, I moved any checked apps to internal storage.
2) I then copied all my music, photos, videos, etc to my computer.
3) Then, with the SD card in the phone, I went to Settings>Storage and formatted the SD card.
4) I then copied the files from (2) back to the card.
After that, your phone should not only sleep better, but Android System should begin to move down the battery usage list after many hours. Just over night, it went from about 38% usage to 20% usage and is now #2 on the list. Cell Standby is now #1. By the end of the day, I expect it be even lower.

awake matches almost identical to screen time,
And i haven't tried the sd card one, although i've gotten a new one.
Anyone try this with success?

It worked for me (obviously), but it wasn't exactly meant to be a solution for everyone. Eventually, Android System became the highest drainer again, but on Lollipop, it no longer is. Again, that's for me.
Try removing the card and leaving the phone asleep (screen off and not doing anything) for a few hours. If the awake time decreases dramatically, then it may be the SD card causing problems.
