How many people have used the Smart Share feature?? I did the other day to stream a movie to my tv.
I will say that it was freaking AWESOME! Now I have streamed using my computer, DTV Box, my tv, Blu ray,
Xbox, and even my Ps3. None seemed to be as easy and flawlessly as running it from my LGOG. I even did
it a few times with MHL and my Evo lte. I can play, pause, ff using my tv remote, hell I believe I multitasked
on the phone while the tv was still playing the movie without one hiccup.
This phone is Awesome!!!
I want to try that but my tv doesn't use DLNA glad it's so smooth though!

For those who haven't attempted yet, you can install screen share.apk from the MT4G. i have it running and reading my files, connected to wifi. i know its really ment to show on TVs and such, but i dont have a DNLA enable device like that. Has any1 had success using it to share to a DNLA tv?
does any1 know if laptops are capable of being media receivers as oppose to media servers? in other words, use a laptop to view media? i've got a macbook and i'd think its be good, for me in this point in time, to share onto my mac because i practically live off this thing. netflix is awesome and i cant wait til that hits android!
Can you post the apk and I'll try it out on my Blu-Ray Player with DLNA.
having trouble uploading it. its twonky tmobile .apk from the mytouch 4g rom dump.
does anyone else have a link for this apk? wanna test but dont feel like downloading 321mb for 1 apk lol...but will if i have to

i can confirm that it works on tmobile g2. though...not as it should. maybe it was my end.
basically tried to stream to ps3. ps3 read the twonky server. unfortunately the phone didnt read the ps3 so the beam option was not working. but, fortunately, the ps3 was able to download the file from the g2 over wifi and play it anyways.
any1 else try to steam anything? i would love to figure out how to set a laptop as a media receiver instead of a mead server (location the media comes from)
Hey all, just read about this on Gizmodo. As of yesterday, AirSync can sync music to your Xbox or Ps3 to play over wifi. This is very exciting news to me because now I dont have to have a crappy usb plugged in all the time. It warns that it might not be compatable with some htc devices but it works on my g2 so im not complaining. Not sure about the Ps3 but on the Xbox all you have to do is go to music library and it should show up as something to play on besides the HDD. Very useful. Enjoy

Edit: Forgot to mention you can view photos and videos(if their in the right format) too!!
Very nice, I should try it now. Thanks for the post!

I just spent 10 minutes trying to get my G2 ps3 doubletwist connection working without success. Let me know if there is any special step I might be missing. I searched for media server with no success. Also my auto sync with my desktop doesn't seem to work all the way. It only copied a few videos but no pictures. I only have it set up to sync from my phone to pc.
Mine has sometimes stopped working too. Since I have no ps3 I can't tell you what to do there but just try restarting everything. Did you make sure airtwist is on? Open doubletwist music player > settings > airtwist. If it is checked try toggling it off then on
how to for ps3
Hey im doing this on a note 2 but to connect it to the ps3 turn on airtwist and go to your ps3, search for a media server and just connect to it
I was told that the touch can sync up with the computer, share files, get music etc. Not just outlook, but real files. If so, how can you do this?
Thanks in advance

Can Allshare be used in tge same way, or is it only for media files?

I downloaded Kies and I connected Epic 4G touch through USB and it doesn't recognize it.
It's always "connecting..."
and nothing.
Anyone else with the same problem?
Windows 7 could not find/install a driver either for this phone.

Yes and speaking of AllShare I downloaded it today and installed it on my HTPC and it worked like a charm. I can sit back on the couch and play what ever media I have on my phone on the computer.
I have a HTPC and its connected to my NON Samsung 42 inch 1080P tv. Now my phone cant talk to the tv but it can talk to the PC by having Kies and AllShare installed.
Kies is good to manage the phone via wifi and AllShare is good to play your media on your phone on the NON DLNA supported tv's ( via pc ).
Worked great, played a 1.5 hour movie today and not one skip, hicup or anything using AllShare. Also tested using pictures and music, all worked like a charm.
If you have a DLNA compatable tv from Samsung then you will not need AllShare installed on the pc. The phone will talk directly to the tv.
If you want to "manage" your phone ie sync, copy and move or just do managment type things I would use Kies. If you want to play your media on your tv then use AllShare.
Fyi, if you want to do the traditional usb connection sync, usb debugging in the application development settings must be enabled. Odd, I know, but it is the case.

On xp pro it shows up as a mobile phone and then allows me to open my phone storage or sd card. I didnt downlod kies or keis...however you spell it

I want to be able to stream varies video files (avi, mkv, etc) to my N7 from my PC while away from home. Tried looking to see if this was already talked about but couldn't see anything.
Tried Plex however unsuccessful in setting it up? Any links or suggestions or best app's or tutorial on setting this up? UPnP/DLNA or FTP (old school way)? Plex or BubbleUPnP or something else?
FYI....running Windows 7 x64 at home. Have N7 connected to my i9100 most of the time. Have newer Netgear WNDR3700-100NAS Wireless Gigabit Open Source Router at home. Also my N7 is not rooted.
Thank you in advance.
Have you tried orb or playon?
Have you tried VLC, or XBMC?

Or Skifta
Just use a rdp app, splash top or any other ones

If you enable file sharing you can use es file explorer and dice player to stream from your PC but it has to be on the same network. I've been watching movies this way since I got my nexus and it works great. There's no lag or having to wait for buffer.
You should just go download qloud video server and then thank me after... I guarantee its exactly what you're looking for... easy to setup and works perfect ... seriously don't know why more people don't recommend this!
Best solution to the OPs question is Plex
Or dice VPN
Dice player will play videos over a shared folder.
Did you try Zumocast?
I'd say Plex too, don't really like Orb's interface, but if the OP was having issues setting up Plex (a very easy process in my experience) I would think that they will have similar issues with any other service.
Does Subsonic handle video? If so, Subsonic = instant win... I use it for music. Couldn't ask for much more than what Subsonic offers.
Note: It's free for basic use, but for mobile use you need to donate a few bucks to unlock a key to use it with mobile devices as well. I donated like 15 bucks. EASILY worth it. I hook up my N7 to some 2.0 speakers on my deck and stream from my server downstairs.
I use BSplayer stream video from NAS

i dunno about App, but the old school way is indeed the easiest way. set up FTP server in ur PC, open and forward FTP port from your router, use ES File Explorer to add the WAN IP address as FTP server.
of course, 2 issues:
- if u got Dynamic IP (standard home cable/satellite broadband) then u need to update it every now and then
- i cant guarantee it can "stream" if using a FTP setup.
the alternative is of course using ur router, setup a Virtual server, and share the windows machine. if u set it up securely and use the correct ports, then it could be the better solution. but im not sure how to configure it with Netgear.
Dice player have built in
Smb , ftp , http support with external sub files.
No rooting is required.
Plex is fairly simple to setup. Need to make sure you UPnP on your router, if not then set the default port in the firewall on the router for the app. After you install, launch your browser or right click the icon in the task tray. Web address is http://computerIP:32400/manage. You will then tell it where your TV, Movies, Pictures, and Music folder is and let it sit for awhile depending so it can gather all the metadata.
I have been using Plex for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. I use it on all my devices when I am out and use Plex Media on my desktop connected to the TV or stream to xbox on my office TV.
Also create an account with plex forums and you can use it to log in in the web GUI and it will make it easier to connect to your N7 while out of the house.
If you have other question on setting it up, PM me and I'll try my best to help out.

I set this up yesterday and it works beautifully. It's supposed to be for Motorola phones but you can get a patched version from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276410
Get the Patched-Rotation file
Setup is as easy as making an account and logging in to it on your PC and device. You also have to download the PC software from the zumocast site. I've tested this away from home and it works great. Streams videos, music, and basically opens any file up (like documents, pictures..etc)
Plex is best...
Ps3 media server/universal media server->mediahouse->dice or MX player and your good to go
---edit
never mind I forgot you mention away from home
What is a similar app for gnex? Or allshare itself.....it was awesome on my eptouch
I'd also like to know the answer to this. I have a Samsung ES8000 smart TV I'd like to connect to.
Try this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.skifta.android.app

You'll need a upnp server on your PC and upnp app on your phone. I use Serviio on my PC and BubbleUPNP + MX Player on my phone.
