Hey all,
I just picked up an 8X last night and have donated my Focus S to my mother (I had to get her off that damn LG flip-phone!). That's great, I have her SIM activated and the handset is ready to be wiped... Except for a "few" important things.
I have approximately 9000 messages with one person, that if I would do anything in the world to keep.. The only problem is my phone is tango'd with the Samsung LE2 update... So I can't interop/root anymore.
Is there any way at all to...?
a) backup SMS
b) extract SMS from a Zune backup
Going through and copying these messages one by one is impractical, and I don't think I'll be doing it.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Mitchell

in short, no, there isn't
when you say you cant interop unlock it anymore to you mean you had it interop unlocked and you mistakenly updated it or was it always locked?
im asking because if you did have it working then the provxml data is already installed unless you hardreset it as well, I don't know for sure but if its still there, try interop unlocking again by using the Diagnosis app dial: *#9908#
I had it interop unlocked but eventually there was just so many conflicts after installing the update that I factory reset. Before resetting I tried to apply the provxml method, but it would never actually work...
I'm in the process of taking some few thousand pictures of the important messages and then I'll be on my merry way with WP8

2 totally separate phones (dash's) one with Rogers and one with stock Tmo WM6. Hard restart all contacts disappear! Since in their infinite wisdom you cant disable the sim contacts from showing, I rely on them STAYING in the phone memory! Anyone else with this issue? It has happened only twice in maybe 4 months, but is very frustrating!
Thanks for any advice!
A hard reset will restore the phone to factory default (no contact list). It's supposed to do that. Keep your contacts synchronized via outlook and activesync.
Sorry, I was lying when I typed hard reset. I yanked the battery so it wasnt exactly a soft reset but I did not do the clear storage either I guess next time it locks up I will be more patient!

You should be syncing your phone with your contact list on your PC or exchange server if you are lucky enough to have one. This is one of the most basic things you can do on a smartphone. What if you lost your phone???
I do sync. But I dont take my computer with me either. So today, all day, I was without contacts. Now they are back caused I sync'd.
I guess we should be telling people that want louder call volume to get a hearing aid and people that want to run another ROM to buy the right phone
backup
I use Sprite Backup for said problem and its golden. Simply make backups of your data on the go and when things happen like say an impossible to stop boot loop or a data error, you can still restore everything.
I guess I am just the kind of person that would rather look at the root of the problem, not the band-aid repair after it happens again. I will look into the backup, but I will probably just carry my spare deactivated sim card so I can transfer stuff back if it fails me again.
So does anyone know a way to KEEP the contacts on the sim, yet hide them from view on the contacts list? It surpirses me that something my 8 year old Nokia does WM6 wont let you do . I have never accidentally lost my sim contacts- but the duplicate thing is annoying
The rogers rom for the htc s621 (dash) allows you to hide sim contacts without a registry edit. goto settings then phone... you'll find it there.
also there is a reg edit for said issue for roms that don't offer this option. I have not personally found a smartphone rom without this option but the regedit is: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.
Now you can keep your contacts on your activated SIM.
THANK YOU!!! I had not realized Rogers did this!
Found the check box under Settings/Phone/Call Options
Hey all,
I am hoping someone can help me.
I bought the TP2, unbranded, last week after HTC assured me through a customer service enquiry that Windows Mobile 6.5 would be available as an upgrade. after reading that the TF3D will be updated along with it, i am concerned that i will not be able to use my phone properly afterwards.
My real question is this, since i havent put any custom ROMs on my phone yet i dont know, when i install the upgrade, will i lose everything from my phone (contacts, e-mails, etc etc) and if so, will the back-up/restore features of Dashwire be suitable to reset it after the upgrade?
Thanks for any help

Yes, you will lose everything that is not on your Storage Card.
I can't comment on Dashwire, but I'm using a combination of MS Exchange to sync contacts/emails and MS Myphone to sync text messages to the cloud.
If you don't use Exchange, then the Myphone service will work well to sync/backup your emails and contacts as well as text messages and any other media you want to backup.
Excellent,
thankyou for the quick reply.
I did try using myphone bt it was a pain in the ass even to get logged on.
Probably me, but dashwire was very quick.
thanks again for the info.
Much Appreciated

I'm sorry if these are known question, I'm not an HTC Tilt 2 owner.
My dad owns this phone, I'd like to change the language to Spanish but nothing seems to do it. Any ideas?
Also he got a replacement phone as he wet his last one. What is the easiest way to transfer contacts? I downloading the Windows program but I think I need Outlook which I stay far away from. Is there any other way?
Thanks!

Unless he backed up his phone, ie. Sprite or kept his contact info on the sim card you will just have to manually build back his contact list.
I bought the HTC Trophy from Verizon, upgrading to a smartphone specifically because I ABSOLUTELY NEED to be able to back up text messages and have them available to me for legal purposes.
...big assumption, I've learned.
So for the last 6 months I have read everything I can find about the lack of this feature in Windows Phones, the potential for an SMS backup feature or app in the future (Apparently not on this device), developer unlocks, Interop unlocks, custom ROMs, etc.
We now know that WP8 will never make it to my HTC Trophy, and I have seen nothing to indicate that anything but a homebrew app will ever allow me to save SMS in Tango or version 7.8, so it appears I am stuck with 2 options:
1) Pay $99 to MS's App Hub to Developer Unlock, then Interop Unlock so that I can install the homebrew SMSBackup app, or
2) Flash a custom ROM to fully unlock the phone for homebrew apps so that I can install the SMS Backup app.
I don't want to pay $99 for an app.
But even moreso, I do CANNOT afford to lose data (These SMS messages), which to my understanding is a gamble that I would have to take in installing a custom ROM.
Am I missing something?
Is there some safe way to flash a new ROM that will allow me to back these text messages up without the risk of losing them?
Or is there some way to Developer Unlock my HTC Trophy so that I can Interop Unlock it without a $99 bill?
Please please please tell me I've missed something.

Ask a professional company in your area if this is even possible for your phone. Amateur methods will not do it.

You should ask your cell phone provider or as above like ze7zez said, ask a professional company in your area to do it for you.
SMS is quite easy to recover (as it is not encrypted) but this is purely dependent on how long the texts have been deleted for, as the longer it has been then the greater chance they will be overwritten by new incoming text messages 192.168.0.1 router login . First thing to do is power off the handset and don't use it (you can transfer your SIM to a new handset as this will not affect the stored SMS on the handset).
I can only state that I use both UFED and XRY and both of these platforms can recover SMS. That said, the old addage is, if it is there then it can be recovered, if it has been overwritten/securely deleted then it cannot be recovered - no guarantees in this feild.
