Hidden SSID not in range - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've done some searching, googling and posting but wanted to see if this is my isolated defective Note2 or other people have this problem.
I am on a rooted Note2 using the Toolkit after getting my phone yesterday
I cannot connect to a hidden SSID with a netgeare router.
The phone connects fine but when I turn off the SSID broadcast it says "not in range" right before my eyes.
Just wondering if anyone else with a Sprint phone has this issue. I've seen it mention with a few other android models but not here yet.

Normally that's an issue with your device not being compatible with the router.
In your case, this doesn't hold true. You probably need to manually enter your SSID and passphrase with your router not broadcasting. It's just a quirk that happens sometimes when you setup WiFi and shut off broadcasting.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I messed around with Sprint Optimization and Wifi Locations settings while trying to get Wireless Tethering to work and tried connecting again.
It seems to work now.
Thanks:good:

XDA IIs Wifi and lockups

Does anyone have a problem with their wifi locking up their xda iis? I have bought a linksys router and am getting frequent lockups when using wifi. I am using the shipped O2 rom, thanks
I have no problem at all with Netgear router. Try changing the connection speed setting in the router to the "b" mode only. Hopefully this can solve your problem.
No problems here either I'm afraid. I'm using a Draytek Vigor 2600VG at home and at work there are two of us with XDA IIs using a Linksys BEFDSR41W wireless router and no problems there either.
Sorry! :-(
Try a hard reset (gulp!) and see if you still have problems (Without anything else installed that might be inteferring) otherwise might be a faulty unit perhaps.

I second what xanth said, I had the problem where wifi would not turn on, so I hard reset and installed each software back individually the problem was Calligrapher 7.3 did not like being in Storage or Storage Card only in Main memory (go figure)

I use the XDA IIs on a variety of wireless networks and experience problems with an alarming regularity. The most annoying is the fact that the top bar seems to loose functionality, when using wireless!!
I will actually add that I do seem to have problem with the "range" of WiFi.
I need to do more testing, but it doesn't seem to be more than 20m or so before have communication issues/timing out :-( Will have to find out what our walls are made of!!!
I have problems connecting sometimes. I regularly use three routers, Draytek, Buffalo and Belkin. The only time that it locks up is when using skype. The skype problem is a known issue with no cure.

I am having a problem where my Siemens SX66 will loose connection to my Microsoft MN700 wireless AP on occasion. -It simply appears as if the Wifi radio shuts itself off.
Weird.....
Wifi has never worked for me. It simply doesn't work in the way nature intended.
The main problem (as far as I can tell) seems to be that it cannot get DNS or IP configuration settings from my router (Belkin 7630) automatically.
It can connect to my wireless network without any hassle, but that's about it. If I enter DNS and IP settings manually it works fine. But this is unworkable if you want to connect to another wireless network.
If I can't sort this out by next week I'm going to sell the unit on eBay. It's been nothing but a pain since I mistakenly bought it in December.
Wifi is a nightmare on this device! I'm going back to Nokia.
I am going to do a hard reset and test to see if i still get any freezes. Anyone know of any software i can use to backup my text messages?
WiFi
Hi guys,
Haven't had too many issues with WiFi over here - standard O2 Asia ROM (with the BT 3500 update).
I'm running a Netgear WG602 @ home with 64bit WEP and a Dlink AP2100 @ work with WPA-PSK. No connectivity problems at either location, both DHCP. It does however take a few minutes to connect, but this is on the odd occasion.
The only frustrating thing with the WiFi is that I have to soft-reset often to turn Wi-Fi on - any ideas? Hopefully O2 will fix this in the next ROM. Other than that, I've had the Nokia 9500, P900/800 and this is by far the best device for the power user.
Just me 2c!
Cheers

Wifi is on all the time on my device, sometimes when I switch the device on while within range of an AP it does not connect. Often switching wifi off and then onn again causes it to connect. If this does not work then I can often go into the network dialogue section, and see the network marked as 'availble' but not connected (why it sometimes does not auto connect I dont know). Tapping connect usually cures. If that does not work then I too need to soft reset.
I hope like you that they fix this cause its damned anoying. I will be interested to see what the Benq P50 is like when its released. I shall get one from expansys to test and ship it back within the 7 days.

As for those having problems with specific access points. It is not nessesarily the fault of the blue angel. It seems to me that none of the manufacturers of wireless kit understand the term 'standard' they all seem to have their own take on it, which is why kit from different manufacturers refuses to talk to each other. I am of the opinion that they do it in purpose to lock you into using their client cards with their AP's !!
Try it with some non Belkin kit and see what happens.

Well i tried a hard reset and didnt install any apps and tried connecting to wifi again and still got a lockup and loss of connectivity. Im going to swap the router for another make and see what happens
Swapped my linksys router for a D-Link and so far no problems after 2 days. so looks like my problem was my router.

XDA IIi and wifi
I just bought one of these and can't get it connected. I have a netgear wg602 access point. When I finally figured out how to set the IP manually (the 02 xda tech support said it can't be done - maybe they're right ;-)
I now have it saying it's connected, with right IP address. My DNS and gateway are set up for the wireless adapter in network adapters. The signal is average. The XDA says wifi is connected. The access point even says it's authenticated and associated - same as my other stations.
Only problem is, internet explorer doesn't find any web pages - says "The page you are looking for cannot be found" (works fine through GPRS)
Also, terminal services times out trying to connect to an internal IP address (to eliminate DNS as a problem)
So, anyone know how I troubleshoot network problems - it looks like a TCP/IP issue? Can't find ping or arp etc. I've also tried an IP address that I know works on the network.
thanks for any help
Dave
Hi
For ping, ipconfig and stuff, head to http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html
I have had multiple issues trying to get wifi working reliably. It still fails now, but there are a few tricks to get it working again. Most of my wifi issues have been due to regular use of three AP's [email protected] and [email protected] along with GPRS and VPN.
To start with I suggest setting all the ****e in connections (internet and home network to 'My ISP' then goto your wifi setup, network adapters, and tell it that the wireless card connects to the internet. Now, tap ok, and goto tools, network cards, tap the active connection (it must already be connected) and ensure that its set to internet.
Next soft reset the thing, and wait for it to connect to yr wifi. Now, use the ipconfig tool and ping tool from the above site to check that all is OK. Check that its got the default gateway right and a sensible LAN IP.
I have found on occasion that I can be connected via wifi, but that the device is still trying to talk using an old IP allocated by gprs which means nothing to my lan! IPconfig will show if all is OK.
Whoever wrote the whole of the networking system (and its terrible gui's) on windows mobile wants shooting. I usually have 2 VPN profiles setup under my work network. If I leave it set to that, and use wifi from my lan to connect to the internet all is fine. However if I try and access a local server, the damned thing starts trying to connect a vpn (it aint inteligent enough to work out that the IP I asked it to connect to is local).
I have been trying to find a setting for all this networking rubbish that allows me to do *everything* without reconfiguring each time - to no avail.
Another thing to note is that you cant send/receive MMS messages while wifi is connected (more stupidity), it tries to connect to the MMS server using the wifi connection, and the telco blocks it cause it wants to charge you for sending MMS over GPRS. Only solution is to disconnect wifi, send MMS then reconnect wifi!!!
Nigel
No problems with WiFi for me
Hmm I'm using an O2 Asia Rom as well.. and my wifi manager seems to automatically create "settings" for each AP it detects and I seem to have no problems connecting at all... been using WiFi around my house since the first day i got it..
i am using a Linksys Wireless 802.11b router..
btw I am new here.. finally able to register!
How's everybody doing?
Cannot turn off IEEE 802.1x
Has anyone had problems unchecking the 'IEEE 802.1x netwrok access control' checkbox???
I uncheck it, but then when I go back to the screen (click on the connection | then select 802.1x tab at the bottom) it has checked itself again!
The XDA IIs does not save the setting - it just keeps re checking itself 02 help have been no use - they sent me an instruction manual and it even says in one of the step 'uncheck IEEE check box'
Im am using a netgear wirelesss router and have also tried on a d-link
Sugestions - is anyone else having this problem??

G3 does not connect to work wifi

Picked up a new AT&T G3 yesterday. Had no problem getting on my wifi at home. However, I've been unable to get the phone to connect to my work wifi. The phone detects the network, I put in my password, but it just will not connect. I've still got my Galaxy S4, and that phone connects fine. I confirmed that both phones have the same settings, and the G3 will not connect.
I've reset the phone, powered it off and back on, forgot the network and reentered the password, turned wifi of and back on, and still no love.
Any other suggestions before I return the phone?
Restart router? Login to the router and check logs? Wipe router password (no password) then try to connect.
Trying to get that accomplished will be fun. Might just return and stick with my S4.
Mines had the same issue out the box, wouldn't connect to neither mine nor the neighbors WiFi, restarted my router and all has been good...
By restarting the router, do you just mean unplugging it for a minute or two, then plugging it back in? Tried that with the router in issue with and it still won't connect.
I'm having this issue with the wifi networks I have at home. I'll go to the settings, enter my password and it will instantly not connect. However, the NFC tags I have already set up before I had my G3 still work and allow me to connect without issue. Strange. This is on the 16GB D855

Yes. But if router is setup as access point then will be connected to the switch and or firewall. Worth to restart it as well. I recently had this issue with airport express. One way to fix it was change router open(no password) than cannect your phone and then stick the password back.
Just to follow up on this, I was able to gain access to and play with my router settings at work. I changed the network to open without any security, and the phone still would not connect. I then changed the network mode from "b & g mixed mode" to "b only mode" and it immediately connected. Not sure what the difference is, but hopefully our computer guy will let me keep the change.

[Q] 5.1.1 Won't connect to WiFi

So, like everyone else i've been waiting forever for this stupid update to come out.
I finally get it today, and the stupid thing won't connect to WiFi?!
Anyone else have this issue yet? :crying:
OK so turns out that it will connect, to a standard WPA/psk ap. My main ap has a Mac filter enabled, even with the devices Mac in (or filter off), it won't authenticate...
While in range of the secured Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect, you actually need to go to Settings --> Wi-Fi Settings (on the watch), and tap on the network name. It will then ask you to input the password on your phone. After you do that, it should work.
Oh... I just reread your 2nd post, and see that your issue is not a password issue. Nevermind.
Still, good information for others.
This would be great if there were a way to input password on the watch... that way, if you forgot phone, but had watch with wifi access, you could still use it.
mine is updated. My 360 still doesn't show Me the option to even connect to WiFi.
I have a htc one m8
Same issue
I have a Cisco Aironet 1142N and it is spitting out authentication errors when my Moto 360 attempts to connect to wireless. I have checked I am entering the correct WPA2 passphrase correctly on the phone. Anyone found a solution yet?

Home WiFi issue

My WiFi will connect and then almost immediately disconnect on my home wifi only. Anywhere else, the WiFi works perfectly. I contacted my internet provider and they're sending someone out to "look at it". Before I keep this appointment, I'm reaching out to see if anyone has a fix; I doubt they'll fix it. I recently upgraded my router and modem, this is when the issue started. I've got the same issue on my Nexus 6P. My wife does not have this issue on her Pixel 3, and any other device connected to the WiFi seems to work just fine - this leads me to its a device issue not a router issue. Any help will be appreciated. To reiterate and still it up shortly: my Pixel 2 WiFi works everywhere except home and at home every other device works fine. I'm on the most current Google update stock not rooted.

Are you hiding your SSID or is it broadcasting? What wifi security protocol are you using? Try WPA2 + PSK. Does this happen on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz frequencies? Which router do you have (make/model)? What does the log say in the router? Usually under admin and (usually) configurable to log wifi connections.

I am using wpa2+psk, it happens on both 2.4 and 5, I have the Spectrum Wave 2 - RAC2V1K Askey (Spectrum's provided router). I posted a screenshot of the recent part of the log because I'll admit, though I am seeing patterns in the log I am not sure how to separate the good from the bad.

wifi issues

Since I've purchased the note 10 +, I've had some wifi connection issues. The phone never stays connected, or will drop wifi frequently. Normally once a day. Now though, it is much more common, and it is for longer periods of time. I'll be casting something to my tv, and then the video will drop due to the phone trying to "reconnect" to the wifi. Has anyone else seen similar issues?
No issues here with WiFi. Do you have any other devices that exhibit this issue? What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting?
I've tried resetting the router, and doing a factory reset on the device. Also, I've tried it on another wifi network and it does it there as well. No other devices that I have on my wifi exhibit the same behaviour. I was hoping with a software update it would get better but it is getting worse.
Do you have a case on your phone?
Any settings made in advanced wifi settings?
Tried app like wifi analizer? Both to check the received wifi strength and also possible wifi congestion...
Are the problems only while casting to TV or also when streaming of Internet?
Did you try change in wifi settings in router, like extended lease time or assigning fixed ip-adresses to both TV and phone, change of wifi channel, switch between 2.4GHz and 5GHz?

The wifi network is fine. Both in signal and congestion. The phone is set to be on the 5 ghz. And I've never had any issues with it on any other device. I lose signal frequently. I only used the casting example to help people understand what's happening.
Now there is a problem with many routers. Even expensive models may not solve the problem with an Internet connection. I also had problems connecting to wi-fi. The phone was disconnected from the router once every few days. I called the guys who connected the Internet to me, but they said that everything was fine on their part. They sent me a master, he looked, but could not do anything except how to change my router. A few days later, I realized that the problem was not solved and started Googling the problem on the Internet. I came across a forum where they advised me to enter this ip 192.168.1.1 and after a couple of manipulations, I was able to fix my problem.

Are you just talking about the programming page of Netgear's routers? Netgear also has apps for that...

How did entering your router's default IP address fix your issue? What changes did you make to your router's configuration?
Just saying that you entered that IP address and making a couple of manipulations doesn't help the OP.
