Hello guys i'm planing to buy a Note II this week. I've heard that the display of Note II is almost awful. So I Google'd it a little and found some comparisons between One X, S3 and some others and yes Note II was the worst (the source: http://gizmodo.com/5960289/htc-droid-dna-vs-iphone-5-and-everyone-else-whos-got-the-best-display) I know next years phones will come with 1080p and high ppi but Note II is great too. I've a Galaxy S and i'm pretty bored of it.. so should i wait for something like Galaxy S4 to come out or should i buy a Note II right away? Thanks..
when s4 is released, note3 will be around the corner............so no matter what you wait for, something more superlative will be announced.........
right now, note2 is the best phone out there..you want it or not is your choice
I don't care. I'm going for it no matter what. You in or not?

The article is stupid.
Note 2 has the same resolution as OneX, so if you rescale the dpi (or the font size inside the browser), the sharpness will be no difference compared to OneX, and texts are bigger. With smaller texts, a little bit paying off in sharpness and you have more words in a page, and still pretty readable.
OK, DNA is perfect, but "worst" here is like comparing an core i7 computer to a core i5 computer running Super Mario Bros.

Really!! Side by side with my iphone 4 on the same web page at normal veiwing distance and the text looks practically as sharp as each other. The only difference is the colour tones. Oh, and the fact that I dont have to squint to see everything on my note 2 screen
How about going into a shop and looking for yourself. The note 2 screen is far from awful.
Edited to add iphone 4 comparison..

awful?
try dropping by Samsung stores and carrier outlets so you can try the units. from where I am, they have 1080p movie clips which you can try, and be amazed by its awfulness..
as for S4, it could take another quarter or two until Samsung releases it given the still very successful run of their S3 now sporting 2GB Ram and LTE. which would be spec'd out by the Note III... next thing you know, it's this time of the year 2013!
Buy the Note II and start enjoying it NOW. :good:
Back on topic, I have had the note 1 previously and currently own the one x and the note 2. Yes one x screen is superior but I also absolutely love the note 2 screen. It's extremely good.
Anyone saying otherwise is talking out of their "behind".
P. S I also had the s3 (albeit for a week) , and the note 2 screen blows it out of the water.

Back to OP, as you can see I've had the Note II, the SIII and the One X. The Note II has a goodish screen but very washed out in viewing angles. The best screen I have had is the One X as it has the true HD screen.

I love One X. My friend have one and i've had it for 1 week i must say it was the best screen i've seen on a phone. It's very powerful too but 1gb of ram is just not enough for a heavy ui such as Sense.

Note 2 display is the best in terms of overall quality. HTC is the best in sharpness.
Now, at >10cm, both are the same in sharpness, unless you look at it through a microscope. Now, in terms of color representation, the Note 2 has the crown.
So, TLDR? Same sharpness if at >10cm from the phone, and better color reproduction in the Note 2.

The note screen is good, but you can see the pixels from normal viewing whereas the one x or s3 they're hardly noticeable. But its still a good phone

I just got mine yesterday and I have mad ghosting (usually from the keyboard). I was at the at&t store yesterday and the screen in the display GS3 looked nicer. I don't have any banding issues. The color temperature is closer to that of my Lumia 800 (slightly yellow whites, very vibrant blues) than my finally retired Nexus One (first gen AMOLED, very high K whites, almost blue, washed out reds).
Where can I check the serial number?

Hard to draw a conclusion
We have 4 Gnexes, and two of them have gone back to Samsung for new screens, so I guess we've had 6 screens all told. I don't think I can draw a conclusion based on build date...
My son has the oldest of the 4, and his screen is nice.
Mine is the next oldest, and the screen was good from day-1, and the newly installed (dropped it) screen is really good.
My daughter's is 2nd newest, and her screen is OK, but not as good as mine. Hers got a new screen before my wife got her phone, and that one is OK, too.
My wife's phone is the newest (march or April?) (with the exception of my replaced screen), and has looked dreadful the whole time, but she doesn't seem to mind it.
My phone is 3 weeks old now. I have no 'grainy' things going on. I do have banding with the color 'grey'. I tested it with the app called 'LCD TEST' free from Google Play. I tested every color and I only got banding with the color 'grey'. The rest looks ridicilously good!
I do have to say that my Old Omnia II with an Amoled screen was good. I could see the pixels easily. (3.7", 800x480)
I can also see the pixels on my Galaxy NEXUS with ease. But these pixels are way smaller but still noticeable. Because of that the screen does not look as sharp as I thought it'd be. But still it looks WAY better than my Omnia II's Amoled screen. Also blows the Galaxy S' screen away (which I've compared my Galaxy NEXUS to)
So it seems the screens issues are really just a hit and miss. I wish they would use the same screen tech they use in the S3 :/ I'm missing jelly bean but I don't want to go from a better screen to one with problems ...decisions decisions lol
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I received my Nexus on July 6th from the playstore. The screen looks fantastic to me. Blacks are black, as for whites I'm not sure what grainy is really supposed to mean. I don't think there's any graininess.
Anyone feel like that the Galaxy 3 should have came out with a 5.0" screen instead of 4.8"? I feel like that a 4.8" screen is still too small to do things like access office documents or remotely connect to a PC from our GS3. Can anyone else think about what the GS3 should have came with in terms of specs?

I started with the HTC hero and thought the size was good, then I got the Epic which had a 4" screen. Now I thought 4" was big and told myself I don't need any bigger, then epic touch comes out with 4.5" screen, and I grew really fond of it. Now this device comes out with 4.8" and I think this is definitely the largest I'm going.
The note is freaking huge and yes, I've played with it. The screen is nice, but when you're using the phone up to your head, when it's really big, it starts looking, well, stupid.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Eh, all the AMOLED tablets pretty much suck since they're stuffed with Touchwiz (tablet version sucks) which slow them down incredibly.
And the difference between AMOLED and LCD is really miniscule, so unless you care about blacks being a little bit deeper, it doesn't matter.
If you don't believe me, go to a store and try the Nexus 7 - - Once you actually see the screen, you'll be able to make a clear decision.
Hi I've recently got my s3 perhaps 4 months ago and I want to kill myself now that this beast is released. I came from the s3 last week and the difference of performance is like night and day. It must be the ram and optimized software. True, it might be a bit less sharp than the s3 but you'll only notice it if you have both devices side by side.

This may be a repost, but if you don't feel like repeating... Don't lol.
I've been with my Note 2 for about 3 weeks now and this is truly one of the best "first experiences" with a mobile device I've had. I've been rocking a screen in my pocket since the old Windows "Palm top" days. Remember those Windows CE devices that looked like tiny laptops? I Even had a compact flash 56k modem (maybe 28.8?). Now that was the sh*t.
So yeah maybe some of the "first" mobile devices back then did blow me away, but man I freakin love this phone!
I picked up and played with my Evo3D and I just dont think I could ever go back. Holding a "normal" sized phone just feels inferior. Not to mention having the Spen. I "grew up" using a stylus so having it is just a huge bonus. Granted a good multitouch, capacitive touch screen is great and practically makes a stylus unnecessary. It's still great to have it when you want it.
So how about you? Can you go back to a 4.0-4.5 inch screen? Or are you a permanent convert?
Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 using Tapatalk 2

And by the looks of it that device is only going to be a 1.8ghz quad core with no Spen and smaller anyway so I don't think I'm going to regret not waiting lol! I dont think I could go back to a 4.5 or 4.75 screen. I could see myself trying out the GS4 just because it should have a 5" screen. I love my Note and the screen. I don't think I could go smaller but if I had to, a 5" screen would be my limit. And the only reason I would consider that is because occasionally the Note does not fit my shirt pockets lol.

I don't think I can.. I still keep my Evo LTE as a back up and from time to time I activate it to play with some roms and use it for a day or two and I can't wait to use the Note 2 again lol
I was an iPhone lover all the way. Got a new one every 2 years and was just now waiting for the next one to come out and I was going to buy it but then I saw the NOTE and in 5 seconds I had made up my mind to buy it and sell the iPhone. Bear in mind it wasn't JUST an iphone for I have a Macbook Pro, Apple TV, iPod docs, and so on..........but it was gone in a flash and I could never buy a phone smaller than this one, the Note 2. I also picked up a Note 1 I got brand new in the box, unopened for only $125 and threw it on another plan.
I do have an S3 which is almost as big but I am here just to find out how to root it and then I am going to sell it on a forum in my home city although its a great phone, its not as big as the note so i wouldn't keep it
Yes, its got to be a big screen all the way

Reasons I switched to the Note 2 from S3:
1. Stopped eyeing the RAM usage after closing every app.
2 . I barely use my laptop now thanks to the bigger screen for watching movies or editing documents on the go, the S3 could handle it but the screen just felt small and the Note2's S pen helps alot especially with lower DPI.
3. Newer than the S3 and felt like it would be a while before it goes outdated, again it's partly because of the additional RAM which makes it feel future proof for the next year or so.
4. My wife has an S3 and I felt like since I'm bigger than her I should have a bigger phone
5. Because of the wider screen, the keys are bigger and it's more comfortable to type on with both thumbs.
6 . because I think I deserve the best!

Unless you don't want a big screen phone, there isn't anything better about the S3 compared to the Note II. The Note II is better in every way possible. If you are truly on the fence about the two devices, then let me tell you to stop wasting you time comparing the S3 vs the Note II and start comparing the S4 vs the Note II.
