I have a HTC One X. I just want to put some music on it, anyone help with how to do this?
First attempt - install the htc sync manager thing.. nope my phone will not connect to it. Says something like "cannot connect to HTC sync manager make sure the program is open on your computer". Guess what... yes the program is clearly open.
Second attempt - mount my phone as a disk drive. copy and paste files into my music folder. This worked when I first got the phone, but I now would like to remove my music collection and add a new one. Now this option is totally screwed up, Ive deleted everything in the "music" folder, everything. But there are still some albums left on my phone. I have also tried copying new music files into this folder and yes you guessed it.. they ain't on my phone.
Please someone help me with the incredibly complicated task of putting music onto a phone. God I miss Itunes.
Thank you.

Did you already tried to reboot and see if it is correct? Sometimes Mediascanner does not work after removing usb storage. Did have same issue sometime, reboot always fixed it.

I have tried restarting my phone and computer. Now I have uninstalled htc sync manager. When I try to reinstall it I get the error message - "The installation of HTC driver appears to have failed. Do you want to continue with the installation?"
Looks like this is the problem.
Try with AirDroid...

No, they're not... Your library is not properly synced with music folder files... Force stop 'media storage' app, clear its data and cache and reboot.. it will rescan your musicfolder automatically..

You can try iSyncr from the play store.. It works really well with iTunes. A little expensive though
Try uncheck usb debugging.

My advice is to move your collection in the cloud. Google music allows you to upload 20.000 songs, free. You can use it from any country, using a VPN solution - eg Tunnel Bear. If you don't have a big data plan, you can create playlists home on the pc and download them on the phone via WiFi.
Google Play - Oh Yes...
Otherwise I use Media Monkey - Syncs beautifully!
I had this issue, follow these steps and it will work:
1 - Delete all the music off your phone (which you have attempted)
2 - Make sure you check the "Downloads -> Bluetooth" folder, as some songs may be in their.
3 - Delete the "Music" folder (FROM PC)
4 - Re-create a folder and name it "Music"
5 - Download "Re-scan SD" from market.
6 - Open it (it has no UI, it just re-scans)
7 - Check phone, you should now have no music.
8 - Put your music into the new folder you made
9 - Rescan SD again
10 - Unplug and enjoy.

Go into device manager and manually remove HTC drivers. Reboot. Plug the phone in. It should reload drivers. Or you can reinstall the HTC driver pack. I had that problem with my rezound and s3. Luckily, naked drivers were available. Hated HTC synch.

Ok, I just got a 4gig Sandisk MicroSD (SDHC) placed about 2.5 gigs of music on it last night and everything was working great. I used WMP11 to sync files onto my storage card.
This morning things worked out for awhile, then, Media Player Mobile stopped seeing the storage card. The storage card still shows up in File Explorer and I can play files individually using the Windows Media Player Mobile, but since it's not seeing the card I can't play songs by Album, Genre, Artist, etc. I tried Updating Library and it runs ok, but when it says it's done the Storage Card still doesn't show up.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running vp3G 3.61
Thanks

my honest answer to this......is that WMP sucks a$$......dont use it man....what you want to use is htc audio manager....its an incredible, stable and versatile program for music, you can try it and keep it if you like it and if u dont just delete it....its free and best of all is that you can still turn off your screen while the device plays music to save battery.....windows media player is very unstable, messes up a lot, and its just plain aggravating....i had the same problem you are havin a few weeks ago....
you can find the link to htc audio manager here in this cab library

hope this helps....PM me if you have questions bout it
I had this problem the other day - first time since November last year when running WM5. I was in a flashing mood so tried various different WM6 Roms and the problem remained - I could see the card in all ways except for when WMP tried to update my music files (It found them but wouldn't add them).
I re-formatted my micro-SD cards (1GB and 2GB) from FAT16 to FAT32 and all is now well again. I seem to remember this was also one of the tricks for the old 'SD card disappears' problem.
You can format through any compatible card reader, or direct on your phone using pocket mechanic from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300353
WMP does SUCK! and yes HTC audio manager is 100* better...
however the problem i htink you're having is a common problem with WMP, i dont know the reason it happens but IIRC the WMP media DB gets currepted.
this is a hidden file on your SD card called somthing like METADATA or somthing along those lines.
I foudn mine got currupted regularly.
a format of the card will resolve the issue but with that much media to copy off and on its tedious. another solution is to (while WMP is NOT running) rename this file.
next time WMP loads it will re-search your card for media and re-build its DB resolving the issue.
you may be able to delete the file but i found i couldn't due to some file locks or currption im not sure.
OH!!! importantly the built in file explorer wont be able to see the hidden file. i would sugest rename it on a PC, or install GSFiner+ which is a MUCH better file browser anyway. you can use GSFinder to show hidden and system files you otherwise can't see in the built in explorer.
hope that helps... (or switch to a decent media player p

This post is all over here if you would search. I know it is a pain but we all go through it. So go to File Explorer on your phone. Go to the storage card on the main screen of the storage card click on menu show all files and then you will see MSMETADATA folder. Delete it. I had to do mine a few times and then it quit showing up. Just a little FYI. It will work. No need to do ANYTHING else.

Well I tried out HTC Audio Mangager and you were 100% right, this is a much better and UI Friendly Player. I already had it, but never really messed with it much. I was so impressed I went ahead and downloaded the HTC Home Customizer so I could make it the Default Player on the 'Music Tab'.

That's right.. Though you will need to set the file explorere to show hidden files before you can delete the folder.
What I found out though is that it will somehow mysteriously return... Like when the phone is powered off and some other such.
So what I did was delete the MSMETADATA folder from the storage card and rebuild the library on the storage card... Once it was rebuilt and loaded then I built a PLAYLIST and saved it...
Now when I want to play from the storage card I just go to open FILE and then go to mydevice->storagecard->playlist->myplaylist
No more problems with the lost library stuff (only need to do it again when adding new songs)...
This works fine and solve the problem with my 8525 thanks
Thanks this worked

After syncing windows media player 11 with my windows mobile device (to the storage card) when I open up the libary and select any song it plays for 2 seconds and then moves on to the next song with the previous song having the red exclamation point next to it, I particularly encounter this problem within a created playlist, how do I resolve this?
Music Library
All you have to do in that situation is update the player library if you have alot of music it may take awile but it takes care of the Storage card problem everytime

Rooted my Galaxy Nexus - Sprint today.
Not a stranger to rooting, had a nexus s and evo before that... but am having something odd going on.
Transfered pics from previous phone along with music and ringtones. They show up when I first bring a rom up (have tried 3-4 today and only installed basic stuff). Literally, you can go into the gallery app and watch the photos be found, and then start to be removed.
After a few minutes of running - none of the pics or music are visable in the gallery or google play. If I grab a file explorer program - they are all there. Also QuickPic shows the pictures.
What the heck is going on here? It's like a process is scanning the folders, seeing them and then deciding to discard the files from view.
Strange stuff.
Is it possible something on the storage card got hosed? I'd wipe it but the recovery files, backup etc are on there. I've seen some reports of this happening to others - but most say to clear data or use SDRescan - and that's not worked for me.
Was hoping I would wake up this morning and this would all have sorted itself out but no luck - anyone have any ideas?
I am also dealing with this issue.
Just uploaded a rom and kernal for the first time and copied my old Music folder and pasted it onto the phone. The File Manager sees it but when I go to the music player there's nothing there.
Its an issue with ROM manager

Rom manager wasn't there to begin with
Answer: Didn't matter/didn't come up
So - not knowing the answer yet - I was removing the .nomedia file and trying everything but couldn't get the new roms to see my pics and music. Highly frustrating and messed around for a day clearing cache, clearing program data. Still nothing. Ran SDRescan and similar programs - nothing.
By chance installed PowerAMP media player to see if it would see the music. After it did it's own scan - suddenly - everything started showing up in the play music player, apollo and gallery. Something about what it does kick started Android into seeing things. Odd.
So, What you are saying is this is caused by ROM manager? Are they aware of the issue and fixing? Would be a pain updating existing ROM's if you had to uninstall, install, uninstall, install etc....
Yeah, he released an update lastnight. The new update doesn't place the .nomedia file on the sdcard.

What I did was remove the .nomedia file from the root of the SD card then copied the media files in question to my laptop. I then deleted thos folders from the SD card and copied everything back in and it started working again.
Hello all
After updating my phone to JB yesterday, I cant seem to mount usb-storage from within sense. Before (on ICS) i got choice of either Charge or USB-disk.
Now I get a new HTC Camera icon in my win-xp and a new CD-station drive..
And when I click on it, it asks me to put a disk in it.. Wierd.
I am using same HTC drivers i always been using. Version 1.0.7.0, date 27.08.2008
Did u install newest HTC Sync Manager?
Should work out of this disk drive, navigate to this with e.g. windows explorer.
Then u can set windows explorer to autostart "One X" when connected.
Also e.g. TotalCommander finds the Storage in Computer/HTC One X/internal storage.

In JB, It comes out in MTP something can provide double-mount in device and pc. If you can not get access to the sdcard dir from pc, just update(or install) htc sync in your pc and it will be ok.
On the off chance you are on XP it just won't work with MTP still looking for a fix lol! Getting redundancy money in January so will probs just get a new laptop lol!
I know about the new sync manager software, but it sucks donkey balls.
Before the JB update it just connected to my pc (windows 7) and Dropbox autouploaded every new photo i have on my phone.
Now that doesn't work anymore and the only way to sync my photo's is via this sync manager program, which sucks...
And then something else: I can't seem to get the screen on my phone where it says "charge only, diskdrive, etc..."
When I press the USB connected thingy in the notification bar it goes straight to portable hotspot & tethering options..
ROM = ARHD 12
Did you update through OTA ?

I "solved" it. Short version: Went back to ICS (ViperX rom, much better and functional than JB at this point).
First try to solve it: HTC Sync.
It worked but then everytime i connected phone, HTC Sync popped up with no way to disable it (option to not launch sync did nothing).
MTP file transfer speeds sucks donkey balls too. And you can only do 1 operation at a time. And image browsing sucks. MTP just sucks.
Second try: Windows 7 upgrade
Atleast didnt have to have htc sync installed, which was a bit better. But MTP is still inferior experience than usb ms.
Third try sollution: ICS
Flashed faux 011m kernel, downloaded and flashed Viper X rom. Problem gone.

From what I know, that setting is gone "thanks" to MTP. With MTP it is no longer need to dismount SD-card from phone when giving usb access, but in return you get slower and convoluted file transfers.
i am having the same problems i cannot mount usa via recovery and i cannot access my sd via usb.. also i dont see how you call that a fix to the problem by going back to ics thats not a fix
any help to how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated..
Same problems on the HTC One S. I think it's bull**** how HTC is doing this mounting in JB. It's retarded.... Any way to fix this and get a decent mount (besides mounting in a recovery or going back to ICS...?)?

I know. Sense 4+ is really aggravating me and I would like to, it's just that on the One S, there are a few thing that aren't as good on Sense (IE: battery, camera, and others...). Was just wondering if there is a fix that anyone knows of. My main issue is to get iSyncr working. The connection keeps corrupting after a short amount of time because MTP is terrible.

Its already been said, but just to be clear, there is no fix because this is the way its supposed to work now (this is the payoff for not having a removable sd card - you can access your storage from the phone and the pc at the same time).
Maybe you could try uninstalling HTC sync (including drivers) and re-installing (then delete sync again to just keep the drivers if you don't like sync).
That's the set up I have and I'm not running into any problems transferring files back and forth between phone and pc

If you're on custom recovery, you can connect your phone that way. That's maybe not the best solution for every day, just if you really need something to get from the device, but it's still better than "you-can't-touch-my-internal-storage-use-Zune-instead" on WP7...

Sup peeps..
was wondering what people were using to pass files from computer to phone or vice versa... i know in windows its simple, but on mac, the phone doesn't seem to show..
I have problems with my Samsung phones with OS X, that is if they are rooted and Kies is installed. I have a 17" MBP and use an express slot 3/4 card reader to pop my microsd into a sd card and go from there.
I have found that an app called Airdroid (free) allows you to open a web browser and connect to your phone and have full access of it.
yeah, thing is, i wanted to use KIES but to be blunt, it is S**T, i've used kies wi-fi and its still slow as hell so im looking for an alternative
i was having issues with the SD card, which ever i used (tried about 4)
I searched online and nothing seemed to work, until i saw one which told me to insert the SD as quick as i could, becuase if stick in the SD slowly it won't read it, ODD as hell.... funnily enough it worked !!

Why are you using Kies? Just plug the phone in to a USB port (without Kies running) and you can access the phone as a media device (on windows 7 anyway). Just open up and choose the phone or card depending on where your information is stored. Drag and drop and it copies automatically.
why do you need kies again?
it's a lot slower than just copy and paste all your musics on the drive itself
