[ROM][ZIP]Stock FK23 Deodexed Rooted Busybox - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

This is the first ROM that I am posting on XDA. It took a few attempts, but this is now the base I was looking to make. I will still try to support earlier releases as best as I can without recommending users to download the latest fixed version. If all else fails and the issue cannot be resolved, the fixed version is below.
If you do not follow the OP and you end up in a bootloop from flashing with a kernel that is not recommended, I will not help you. Stop flying by the seat of your pants and follow directions.
Flashing this from the repacked recovery will result in a bootloop 100% of the time. Use the recommended recovery!
This is exactly the same as the FK23 tar file with the exception of being deodexed, rooted, and has busybox installed.
This may be used as a base for ROM developers. All I ask for is credit for taking the time to put this together.
This DOES NOT wipe the internal storage.
This DOES NOT include a custom kernel, it comes with the stock FK23 kernel. Once there is a repack, I will add a link in this thread.
This DOES NOT wipe the data partition.

i'm on fi27 rom base,if i want to instal this rom?
did i must instal modem fk23 and kernel fk23 via recovery too?
or this zip rom include modem and kernel?
thx

This includes the kernel and modem. Whether the modem flashes or not is a different story, I had already flashed the FK23 tar so I was already on FK23 modem.
The update-script has a command for the modem so it should flash.

All must be flashed through recovery console

According to the OP, the included kernel has the SD fix in it, and has a stock but unlocked recovery that allows flashing unsigned zips...
Never having messed w/ stock recovery -- my question is does it allow nandroid backups or restores, and what about restoring a rogue/cwm generated nandroid (e.g. from an FC24 repack)?

[ROM][ZIP][TAR]Stock Rooted Deodexed/Odexed GB27 with SuperSU/Busybox 1.20.2

I am sure you don't need GB27 but for the sake of continuity I am providing it.
First of all a huge thanks to Sextape for the GB27 release. Thanks to Calkulin for use of the install script. Thanks to Chainfire for SuperSU. Thanks to Mattix724 for the install instructions which I tweaked slightly.
Flash or Odin this to get Deodexed/Odexed stock GB27 with latest root (SuperSU), su binary and Busybox 1.20.2. These Do Not include a kernel. The Odin Tars include everything else.
There is a version for no data wipe and data wipe. Make sure you don't get them mixed up.
All of the zips wipe cache and dalvik for you so no need to do that separately.
I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone. You do this at your own risk.
DO NOT FLASH THE DATA WIPE VERSIONS UNLESS YOU ARE USING A RECOVERY THAT SUCCESSFULLY WIPES DATA ON JELLY BEAN, LIKE GARWYNN'S
This is a Jelly Bean Rom. As I stated earlier it does not include a kernel. So if you are coming from a Rom that isn't Jelly Bean you need to first install a Touchwiz based safe kernel. Like Agat's source kernel. So copy the Jelly Bean kernel to your phone. Boot into your recovery. Flash the Jelly Bean kernel and then flash this Rom. Or if you are using Odin just Odin the Jelly Bean kernel and Rom back to back.

*Menus may vary between recoveries. The instructions below apply to Agat's recovery but may be the same or similar as other recoveries..
1. Download the ROM zip to your phone.
2. Reboot to recovery, use a known safe recovery such as Agat's source built, or the CWM EL26 directboot.
3. Put your phone in recovery mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold Vup+Power).
3. Select install zip from sdcard.
4. Select choose zip from sdcard if your zip file is on the external sdcard or select choose zip from internal sdcard if you downloaded the zip right to your phone.

Odin tar method.
1. Download the tar to your computer.
2. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold Vdown+Power and follow the instructions).
3. Connect the phone to the computer (You should see Odin put a Com4 or something like that in the ID:COM box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is that something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it).
4. Using a Windows based computer, open Odin.
5. Make sure that only Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time is selected.
6. Click PDA.
7. Select the tar file.
8. Click start.
9. Wait while the ROM is being flashed.
10. The device will reboot and you are now running the new ROM.
11. Profit.
12. If the phone locks up, give it plenty of time if you think you waited long enough wait longer, for any reason take the battery and sdcard out and let it sit for an hour. Put it back together and try again.
Mobile Odin method.
1. Download the tar.
2. Open Mobile Odin.
3. Select Open file...
4. Check the partitions, you should have a Kernel and a System.
4A. Mobile Odin Pro users, you can choose whether or not to inject SuperSU and Mobile Odin as well as enable EverRoot, this its already rooted so no need to EverRoot.
5. Select Flash firmware, follow the prompts.
6. Your device will reboot and begin flashing the ROM.
7. Profit.

No. To my knowledge, there are no GB27 kernels that will allow data wipe, except for stock. So if you need to factory reset I would first do it from the stock kernel. Then install the custom kernel and proceed. I know Garwynn is actively and aggressively working on a solution.
Garwynn's newest kernels have fixed the data wipe issues. You can now use those zips if you like.

As stupid as this sounds - Anyone have any issues with this ROM crashing and then becoming unbootable? I decided to go to stock root with this kernel a few weeks ago - middle of using it it froze, rebooted, and then got stuck on the Samsung GS2 Boot screen, never making it to the Sprint 4g boot animation. I thought it was something I did - so I reflashed and all was fine. This was with running agats recovery kernel. I also loaded this on a friends S2 and after about 2 weeks or so, same issue occurred. Was wondering if maybe I missed a step or if this was a known issue or something. I was pretty impressed with the speed, battery life, and stability of this rom except for this weird issue.

When that happens go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache. This should be your first go tio thing if something isn't running right or seems off, or if things are running slow. It works wonders if you do it every couple days. JB caches everything and doesn't always wipe caches when it should.

Thanks so much for doing this so quickly!
Deodexed is complete. Remember that I don't have the phone. So if you are brave enough to test these please make a complete backup first. But I see no reason why these wouldn't work. The only one's that concern me are the data wipe zips. I am going to try and get to my friends house tonight and will test them personally at that time. If you do install these please report back on your findings.
Can someone confirm that your internal data partition is still at /data/media? I know it was that way on the AT&T S3 which is what I made the data wipe script for. Just want to make sure the Sprint S3 is the same.
The Deodexed data wipe version is uploaded. The no data wipe version has an incorrect MD5 so I am going to have to upload it again

OK thanks. I was sure the no data wipe versions would be fine. I am pretty sure about the data wipe versions also but haven't tried it on a Sprint S3 yet.
Anyone seen anything on a flashable modem?

Dropbox down (I only tried it because work blocks goo.im only for some reason ha)
AFH working for me now. Downloading. I'll have a nice toy for tonight
I've got a paid dev-host I could put it on but I can't even download it. AFH has been terrible lately

AFH is giving me this:
{"INFO":"failed posted hashcheck","SOLUTION":"please make sure you have javascript enabled for androidfilehost.com. Hit the back button, enable javascript and try again please. we promise we are probably not doing anything nefarious. maybe. no promises though."}

Everything is done uploading now. All but one are on goo.im. I am mirroring on androidfilehost as fast as it will upload. Dropbox appears to have already reached its limit Yeah they suck.
Edit: Both of the Deodexed versions are done on androidfilehost.com
Alright, I hit a bit of a snag. I rebooted the phone, and now it won't go past the "Android" boot up animation.
Well, the phone itself does. I can interact with everything that should be on the screen, but all it shows is the boot animation. Tried reflashing and got the same thing.
I'm nandroiding back for now.

Given all of the trouble I had getting them uploaded, please verify your MD5. Also did you install anything else after installing the Rom?

[Q] reccomend me a rom.

I am currently using the MOAR rom by NOOBZ, and love it except my phone reboots about 30 times a day.
when they updated the rom i flashed the new one and still have the same problem and reading the thread so do other people.
I want a rom that has good loud audio, i've read features on a lot of roms and couldn't find any except the noobz rom that had extreme volume
listed. 1 with beats installed would be cool also.
but i've got to get a new rom it reboots in calls and at bad times.
Most likely you did something incorrect. I would wipe phone completely clean and reflash the rom.

Do a complete wipe before install. If you are using another custom kernel make sure, it is not a cause for reboots.

There is a flashable zip that will enable extra loud volume in any TW rom
MOAR is my goto rom and runs better than stock, how did you install it and with which options? If I had to guess in the dark, I'd guess your kernel voltages are too low but who knows...
If you want something different maybe try TPR or venum?

Not enough info to assist you, what kernel did you flash? What audio mods have you flashed? Sounds to me like you want audio so I am curious what type of mods you have flashed following the rom and what kernel settings you have.
I suggest you boot into recovery, wipe dalvik, cache, factory/data and the flash the stock or optimized stock kernel and whatever mods via the aroma installer. And DO NOT flash or install anything else for a day or two.
Phones rebooting are 99.99% kernel related, the other .01% is bad phone or just plain bad karma related.
Hope this helps, let us know.
Try a fresh download to your pc, then transfer that to your sd card. Could also be a bad download
I cannot hold on,
I will not let go
i fallowed all instructions on the rom page for install, and stock kernel and extreme volume.
i have reinstalled the rom 3 times and 1 of those was the latest updated version.
it's a problem listed in the lond thread on the rom, but low post count can't post there yet.
its probably Bad kernel install or bad download. Naddict is more than likely correct. This I have to say, I don't recall seeing anyone reporting multiple boot loops running moar. This rom is one of three of the most stable and well put together roms I have run. Good luck
Flash! Ahh Ahha! ☆★☆
I would recommend Goodness Reborn. Very stable and customizable.

I honestly don't think another rom is gonna do any good if he can't even get M.O.A.R. running properly. Their is probably something he is not telling us...

it's not boot loops it just randomly reboots, that's the only problem i have with this rom, i love everything else.
should i just reflash and change kernel, if so which kernel should i choose.
also, i haven't flashed any of the add ons, cus i don't use drop box or any of the google crap except gmail.

Did you wipe System or just Factory Reset?
I think you are dirty flashing, or restoring System Apps.

It's gotta be a bad download/install/etc. I've been running the latest version of M.O.A.R. for a couple weeks now. It's amazing

Try the updated hyper drive rom. I think once it catches on it will probably be a favorite.

I did factory reset and wiped devlac. and cache that's what was in the install instructions
Did you overlook the first part where it tells you for best results/performance? I sure did. I have not had one reboot since and loving it.
** Uncheck "Force GPU Rendering" in 'Settings-> Developer Options' if enabled, for best performance

Help with Beanstalk Rom

Love this ROM but trying to make sure that I have the latest version. When I look in about phone it shows my version to be 1.190..I have downloaded 1.275 and when I boot into recovery to flash it still shows the earlier version. What am I doing wrong?
Have you checked inside of the beanstalk thread ??
That would be the likely place for information regarding BS roms and updates. ..g

Any luck yet? I too have BS (and love it!) And am looking to update it as well...this was my first ROM so I'm not necessarily sure how to update...do I just DL the new patch and just flash right over the version I'm running now?
Yep

Most beanstalk releases should be able to be dirty flashed overtop of previous installs. But just make sure that for one your recovery is up to date and that you wipe cache after the rom flash is complete. There is an option sitting to the left of the reboot button after you flash a file in TWRP. If this doesn't work you might have to do a full wipe and start fresh.
Personally I've done about 4 consecutive dirty flashes and it's been alright but you can honestly never really tell. It's always the safer bet to do a clean install where you wipe everything and flash the new update.

Okay of course it was user error. I found that when I was going to flash to file I was not going to the correct file to choose from. I have to go into the 0 file and then scroll down the downloads in that file. From there I can choose the correct file. Since all this I have stumbled upon the Liquid Smooth ROM with Soap kernel and it is mind blowing. Battery life is crazy.
