Would anyone have any leads how to get volume button music control going on stock ROM? I miss it alot from my evo with tommytomatoe's classic ROM. Any leads or help are greatly appreciated.
I know its in the framework, and by poking around I found that its a smali edit that needs to happen, but after that I'm clueless.

i know im replying to myself, but i found a solution for this (for which i take no credit for, just happy to have it)
go here, and first things first thank this guy: nikhil007mmus in his rom thread below
he has a flashable zip link in his second post for his rom thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748974
which when clicked leads you to his dropbox.
download the file that says Enable_skip_tracks_mod.zip and unzip it to the root of your sdcard (or wherever, you just need easy access)
copy the contents of the zip file (android.policy.jar) to /system/framework, (making sure to take a backup of your original for good measure) using a root explorer, i recommend es file explorer.
and finally, bask in the warm shiny glow that is lockscreen volume button music control.
Mixing frameworks like this should be done with caution. Just throwing this warning out for extremely new to android users

I know its not exactly an elegant solution, but it worked ok for me, if I feel froggy I might see if I can't just port a stock Rom from another phone with all the goodies baked in already. Viper Rom from the incredible s has all of it and shouldn't be hard to port.

so i found a better cleaner way to do this, dl the zip attached to this post, and decompile android.policy.jar from your favorite sense rom and add these 45 files inside the zip to it. then recompile, and use adb or a root explorer to push it back to /system/framework. its nice to have a stock sense rom with volume button music controls now, that doesnt mess up after using it a few times.
once again, credit goes to nikhil007mmus
only hitch is long press down volume button pauses the music for now, im working on getting it to properly skip back a song or repeat the current one from the beginning.
took me a long time, but i figured it out finally lol.
pull classes.dex from android.policy.jar from your sense rom and put it in the same folder as smali and baksmali (use google to find and dl them)
issue these commands to decompile and then recompile:
java -jar baksmali.jar -x android.policy.jar -o classout
stick the files from the zip in com/android/internal/policy/impl and after you are done:
java -Xmx512M -jar smali.jar classout -o classes.dex
then use 7zip or something like it to put classes.dex back into android.policy.jar and push android.policy.jar back to your phone however you prefer to do so
note: this only works on deodexed roms, but htc should have included this to begin with, would have saved alot of headache.
and finally, enjoy.
Xposed Installer + Xposed Tweak Box works. just don't select any other options besides the volume button skip mod or else you will get a bootloop
Thanks for your input, I've never heard of that.

I'm using it right now on the newest cm7 nightly, suits the rom just fine .
Find the correct .ogg file, using root explorer or any other file manager move the .ogg file to system/media/ui/ and overwrite the initial one. A reboot is needed for sounds to take effect.
U can also adb push "filename.ogg" system/media/ui
/system needs to be mounted 'rw'.
Good luck!

I hadn't done this on my G2 yet when I posted the youtube link, but I just did it and it took about 20-30 seconds to do it.
I've always found that SU File Manager was easier to do this, so people should try it out.
It overwrites the file, make sure you pressed the S in the top left corner. Then just reboot after you've done everything.
Also make sure that you rename the file and delete .zip at the end.

I was wondering where would you put a bootanimation sound. I put a sm2_opening.ogg file in /system/media/ where the zip goes but when i rebooted the sound it didnt play.
so am i using the right file, wrong location? or am i completely off any help will be appreciated.
Currently running the acer LiquidMetal rom
Normally the sound file would have to be called out from the desc.txt , which is located within the bootanimation.zip file.
The ogg or mp3 file would be placed in the /system/media/ but needs to be called out by the desc.txt.
This my not work with the Liquid rom but worth a shot. Bootanimation sounds dont work with gingerbread....at the moment.
@ wilnotdie. Thanks a lot for the quick response could you post an example of the code needed for the desc.txt I don't know how to code lol.

Doesn't matter. You can name the sound file whatever, just add the same name in the desc.txt file.

This way worked for me, but only once I flashed the stock/froyo rom.
There's another method which uses xml files instead of desc.txt file, but that way might only work for motorola phones...and it looks more complicated. Haven't done much research on that as the first option worked.

I'll take a look.... should be make it work.
Theres a few other special instruction needed. I'll post them soon.
You are trying to flash this through recovery, right?
The file you posted looks like its for recovery.
You can try flashing it again, and see if it works. Most likely you will need a different bootanimation binary file. This binary file, unless im mistaken, tells the phone how to play the bootanimation.zip etc...
The one you currently have, doesn't know how to process sound during boot. You will need a one that does.
If your original zip doesn't work, give this one a try. I moved the ogg file to the media folder, and also added the bootanimation binary which handles sound.
****Before Flashing The attached Zip!****
Backup everything on your phone, either through Rom Manager or Recovery...than before flashing the zip, please back up your original bootanimation binary file.
To do this, you can either use root explorer, go to
/system/bin/
and rename the file bootanimation to bootanimation2 or something different.
or from terminal
Code:
mount -o remount, rw /system
cp /system/bin/bootanimation /sdcard/origbootanimationbinary
mount -o remount, ro /system

I had no clue that the binary for that zip didn't know how to handle the sound like I said I don't know how to code so a lot of the stuff I see in these zip files I don't know what it means I can understand some of it just based off the knowledge I do have about android. Wish there was a way I could learn more about coding and stuff like that without it being to much of a hassle for someone to teach me.

Hey guys
Here's the modified android policy which would allow the volume rocker wake on your DarksideEvo3 v7. You have to manually moved it to your /system/framework/ with root explorer or push it through adb since I don't know to create the flashable zip in the recovery.
Below is the instruction to push it through adb. (You can just copy the policy file in the zip to the root of the internal storage and start at adb shell)
adb push android.policy.jar /sdcard/
adb shell
su
sysrw
cp /sdcard/android.policy.jar /system/framework/
chmod 644 /system/framework/android.policy.jar

Flashable zip for Darkside v8
I thought I would take a crack at making a flashable zip for this mod. This is the first one I have made ever, ever in my entire life, so please flash at your own risk and have a backup ready.
I modified the android.policy.jar from Darkside v8.
Did I mention this was my first flashable zip ever? Flash this like anything else; I assume clearing caches would be a good idea.
This works for me. I flashed it on a clean install of v8 with no issue that I can tell.

Hmm. I thought it could use the nandroid img.
Did you rename the extension to.img?
Otherwise just grab the firmware for the build you want and use it instead.
Stickies in development.

Because I have made several mods to the stock roms on the phone already (beats, using supersu, pimp my room, debloating, etc). And I don't feel like having to redo all of that.
There must be a simple way to do this. This is at least one of the ways that stock rom images are acquired so they can get posted.
In ClockWorkMod i have tried all of the following:
from the backup and restore menu
Create image.zip
Backup to external sdcard dup format
Backup to external sedcard tar format
None of them worked.
For image.zipo I copied the image.zip file and tried it zipped and unzipped and neither way worked.
For backup I copied all of the files from the /mnt/extSdCard/clockworkmod/backup/<DateOfTheBackup> directory.
I must be missing something stupid here
Thanks again...
Ok. Lets try something entirely different. Find a tool called Apk Manager, (google wanam apk manager ics).
Now extract all your files into a folder, or if you prefer you can plug into the computer and do adb pull /system.
Install/set up apk manager per instructions you should see where you download it. Then basically follow instructions to deodex the app and framework folders.

Well, it not only would deodex, but you can also use apk mgr to decompile, mod/theme, recompile....pretty much do everything you want to do.
But if you are insistent on the kitchen, use tge stock fw to get started, then adb pull your system and plug your files in place of the ones from the stock fw.

Hi, did you manage to get an image of your current ROM?
The easiest way is to use Root Explorer and the "Zip this folder" option, by long-pressing on the system folder.
Another way is to use ADB:
e.g. #1 (Copy all files and folders to your PC)
Type on your PC:
Code:
mkdir my_system_dir
adb pull /system my_system_dir
e.g. #2 (Pull all files into an image file)
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p14 /system
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/sdcard/system.img
Likewise, I believe you could do the same for the boot.img (mmcblk0p7).
No USER friendly! Sorry I can't create update.zip
Need Safestrap for BackUP and change permissions (chmod -R 755 /system/framework/framework-res.apk).
This mod can open for you full screen display in Razr M without loose toggle bar, just copy framework with style what you want to /system/framework dir, and change permission to file.
Files in zip for 4.1.1 & 4.0.4 Android.
noVbutton - no navibar in Vertical orientation, yes in Horizontal
noV-Hbutton - no navibar in Vertical orientation, no in Horizontal

Developer only?
Does this work for the developer and regular versions? Anyone tried this with the official JB OTA from Verizon?

It Works!
Yeah, FINALLY! Get rid of that craptastic waste-of-space navbar.
If anybody want to know, here's how I did it:
Note: I used root explorer
1. I used my windows 7 machine to extract the version of framework-res I wanted.
In my case, i'm on the 4.1.1 JB Verizon OTA, so I chose the 4.1.1 noV-Hbutton.
2.Copy the framework-res of your choice to the root of your internal storage card.
3. Using your file manager (Root explorer in my case) copy the framework file from your internal storage to "\system\" NOT "\system\framework\". Note, if you do this step and it asks you if you want to overwrite "framework-res.apk" STOP!
4. Using your file manager, write down the permissions for your existing "\system\framework\framework-res.apk".
5.Go to the framework-res.apk you just copied "\system\framework-res.apk" and change permissions to match those of your existing framework-res file.
6. AFTER the permissions have been changed and verified (I exited completely out of root explorer, then re-opened it and double checked that the permissions where the same) you can safely move and over-write the file in "\system\framework\".
7. Here's the reason. If you just copy the modified framework file straight from your internal memory to its home in "\system\framework\" the permissions won't be right, and there is a VERY good chance you will end up in an endless bootloop. Copying the file to "\system" first gives you the opportunity to modify its permissions BEFORE overwriting the existing framework file.
Good luck!
Update: Not sure why, and it isn't causing any problems, but every time I reboot the phone, it goes through the "android is upgrading your apps" dialogue".
Guess I got lucky avoiding a bootloop. I just copied the new file, went to /system/framework, renamed the current file, and pasted in the new one. Then all the applications crashed, I rebooted, and changed the permissions. I did have to sign back into all my accounts (Google, Facebook, etc), but zero issues since then.
I'm still loving it! The nav buttons took up so much space. The new version of LMT that you can trigger from the bottom makes it perfect.

I got moved the new framework file into the folder except I accidentally deleted it at the same time. Everything started to "stop working" and after I did a hard reset recovery (wipe data/factory reset + wipe cache partition) it stays stuck on the "android" boot loop (past the motorola logo) any help on restoring my phone??
The framework in the OP doesn't work with Eclipse Rom so I recompiled it from the eclipse framework. Same instructions as OP just different file.
So to recover, this is for Eclipse 1.1 no buttons

If I helped you out toss the OP and I a thanks plz :good:

I would like to do this for TB. Are you using apktools?
im running cm10 beta on my razr m and i found that simply adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=1", to the end of your build.prop without the " then reboot. This will make the bottom nav bar disappear.
I found this by accident attempting to make the nav bar translucent so im not sure why it works, but it does for me.

It causes systemui.apk to FC on stock based ROMS. Great for CM10 based ROMs.

Yea just decompile the framework from the rom you want and edit the lines in the op to all zeros. It's located in the "values/dims.xml" (I think). Recompile apk then drop in the meta folder from the original framework inside the new framework (I used 7zip). Just copy to phone, set permissions, and reboot.

I'm using APK Multi Tool, and I didn't install the framework-res.apk for 4.1.1 first.

Oh, and okay. I know when jelly bean and ICS first came out everyone was having a hard time with recompiling the .apk's from ics and jb. I haven't tried it since. I'm assuming that they must have fixed all that by now?

Yes, they did update them. I tried earlier with an older utility, and was getting really frustrated because I couldn't get the apk to recompile. APK Multi Tool os awesome, I need to play with the themeing tools it has.
