[Q] Install Stock OTA - HTC One X

Hello, I was using CM10 for JB, because I didn't manage to update my hboot.
But now I've decided to get back to stock ota, the problem is I failed to install the RUU.
I didn't know how and what version of RUU to install. then I've found that my RUU seems to be
Code:
"getvar version-main
version-main: 1.26.401.2"
so I've downloaded RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.26.401.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251208_signed.exe.
Then i've locked my phone, and did
Code:
"fastboot oem rebootRUU"
then I tried to install the RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.26.401.2_Radio_1.1204.90.13_release_251208_signed.exe. and it worked.
And everything seemed to be OK.
but then I watched this video <youtube>/watch?v=SZuAjz4PIjU, and realized I didn't put the stock recovery.
And I did,
Code:
fastboot flash recover recovery.img
Reboot, and almost happy, but now when the phone reboots, it doesn't save any changes, It has found an update of 29mb but it won't apply, it looks like its installing and seems like everything works, but it doesn't .
I have no idea what to do next. I'll try in the mean time to install the RUU again.
Update:
I tried to install the same RUU, no luck, it just throwed an error. And the issue is the same, settings are not stored on reboot

Do you have a branded one x ? What's your CID ?

cidnum: HTC__102.
If you by "branded" you mean, orange, at & t and stuff then no. It was not locked to any of the service providers.

And what comes up with
Fastboot getvar version-main ?

Have you tried using a newer RUU? Anything that has x.xx.401.xx will work. Try the 2.17 RUU.

Edit : just make sure the phone's bootloader is locked , then put it in fastboot USB mode. Start the RUU from pc with admin rights !

Well if his software has 401 then those RUUs should work.

Yes you are absolutely right

Well that seemed to fix it.
I installed a new RUU (RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.17.401.2_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_274900_signed.exe).
Locked the phone, got in fastboot and installed the new RUU and all the errors seem to be lost.
The settings are being kept and the best part is that HBOOT has updated from 0.43 to 1.12.0000, which is awesome.
Thank you guys!
The thread can be closed now.

Good to hear mate !

Returning to stock?

Hey,
So I rooted my phone and installed CMW, but would like an OTA update to fix messaging issues with the current stock version. Unfortunately I didn't back up my phone prior to rooting, and there is no nandroid released for this phone; my CID is HTC__023.
I've researched until my head hurts, and think I have the solution, so my question is to verify it.
1) If I flash a stock RUU, will this return the phone to its original unrooted status, the original bootloader and remove CWM?
2)Since my phone is baseband version 2.1204.135.20, can I flash the following RUU:
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.17.707.3_Radio_2.1204.135.20_release_278245_signed.exe
and not have compatibility or language issues?
Thanks for helping a semi-noob in advance!!
PS if it isn't the right RUU, how can I tell which is? I'm with Virgin Australia.
Go on fastboot, type 'fastboot getvar version-main' and tell us your version number.
PS your carrier doesn't matter because your device is unbranded.
Do NOT flash that RUU. It's not meant for your device. I have the same CID as you.
You ought to flash 2.17.728.5.

And if you haven't updated from Sense 4.0, flash the 1.29.728.12 RUU and then update your phone.

I have updated to Sense 4.1, so it's just the 2.17.728.5 update? I'm having trouble finding this one. Has it been released?
Can't find the RUU for 2.17, and you can't flash 1.29 RUUs since it's lower version. You have to either wait for someone to leak it (might be never) or restore someone else's stock nanodroid backup.
That's weird because my version is different.
Anyway, I don't think there's an RUU available for the 2.17 version. I've tried searching.

I could send you mine of you want. But the version's a bit different. I don't know if it's alright for you to use my Nandroid backup.
I reckon you should ask someone if it's okay.

I've read that a change in RUU is fine as long as the version number (the x in 2.17.728.x) goes up, not down.
BUT.. a nandroid needs to be made from a rooted phone, right? Can I just make my own nandroid off this phone, and use it to revert to a non-rooted no CWM version? This seems to easy an answer to be right.

Well, hboot version is 0.96 for 1.29 and 1.12 for 2.17 and you cannot flash older hboot versions so I can't see how it'll work. Try it if you really want to.
And how is making a backup of a rooted version going to help you revert to a non-rooted version?
Why don't you just update your non rooted handset, cause I know that the update is still available. If it's not rooted, has a locked bootloader, and stock kernel and recovery, I don't see the problem.

I already rooted the phone, a few weeks ago, before the latest update came out. So I can't install the OTA 2.17.728.5 update... and since I didn't make a non-rooted backup (didn't realise it was possible to make a full backup without first rooting the phone), and there isn't a released RUU, I am not sure how to get the OTA update now. Or even unroot/un-CWM the phone.

You can remove CWM by flashing a stock recovery on top.
and I think... think that you can unroot your device my removing all the files you used to root in the first place. Not even sure about this.. Are you on a custom ROM or stock rooted?
If you rooted your second handset never the update came out, then just flash the 1.29.728.12 RUU and then update.
I'm sure that this RUU is available because I've flashed it once.

When I backed-up my phone, Hboot was the newer version, so 1.29.728.12 RUU won't flash (thx Tomascus). I think my only option is to find a compatible nandroid.
@SidDev, do you have a clean (unrooted) 2.17.728.x nandroid backup? You'd have this if you flashed 1.29.728.12, then OTA updated to 2.17.728.x, then made a nandroid (before any rooting). The hboot version on the nandroid would be a match then also, cause I think the OTA update also updated Hboot..
If you have and could send me the file, it would be absolutely amazing!
Have you tried what SidDev and the others have suggested? It should work.

Kind of. Downgrading to the 1.29.728.12 RUU doesn't work, since my bootloader updated to the newer version. I have read about a sneaky workaround to install an older version RUU (here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1964371) but it is pretty involved, more can go wrong, and its unclear if it will even allow OTA updates - since the version number would read as a newer one it may not install the older updates (just speculation by me... but this stuff never goes to plan for me)
At the moment I'm still trying to get a nandroid, because that is pretty likely to work -- old RUU install is my last resort

Finally did this, it worked brilliantly! I now have a stock unrooted One X, with no CWM to interfere with OTA updates (so the OTA's work fine now).

There is no RUU available, but you can go here

And download the matching nandroid backup ! Restore it including the boot.img and the stock 2.17 recovery. After that you can update

Depends on your hboot. Did you already updated the phone to JB ? If not then you can not use it because that's the JB version.

I updated my phone to a Cyanogen 10 Mod which is running Jellybean.
Well that's no guarantee because those roms also run on the lower hboots, check the top of the bootloader and read what hboot number you have

Yeah whats on the phone is not important, the trick is to enter the bootloader and lock the bootloader (as you said you already did) then perform the commands gien in the thread and flash the firmware. It will lift your hboot to 1.36. After that you unlock th bootloader again and flash a custom recovery and perform a full wipe and then install the desired JB rom

But the RUU failed. I guess it's because the radio version is 3831.19.00.120 whereas the RUU is 3831.17.00.18

No, it ain't working. May be I am not able to follow the correct procedure but I am sure that the radio versions doesn't match . So, I've very little hope with that RUU. May be you could try another ROM. There are some ROMs that are very much similar with the stock one. I am using one of its kind and it's working fine. Very much similar to the stock ROM.

Does anyone have a recovery image made after latest OTA?

Hey everybody,
First off a few weeks ago I recieved the latest OTA update installed it and didn't think anything of it. Anyways recently I tried putting on a custom ROM and finally start messing around with my device. Apperantly though the latest OTA update has updated my hboot and radio version making it incompatible with all custom roms at this point, I think people are working on a fix, but I don't I don't know when or if that will come to light.
Anyways stupid me didn't make a backup because I didn't think I'd need it. I played around with my last two android phones (not htc and much easier to modify IMO) and never went back to stock. Anyways my question is, is does anyone have a stock recovery image made after the last OTA update? I'm assuming I could flash that and my phone would work? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding what I really need and someone could help me at least get my phone working again? I appreciate any help I can get, thanks for reading guys.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm on virgin mobile in the US.

It doesn't seem to be allowing me to flash a RUU with a older version of hboot, or I could be wrong but I don't know what I'd do differently this time.

Lol thank you for making me notice, kinda forgot the link
I think it won't let you run the ruu because you are dev unlocked. When you open the ruu exe file leave it on the welcome screen then search your computer for Rom.zip (it will be in a temp folder with a long name.) Grab the recovery.Img (or signed_recovery.IMG whatever its called) flash this on your phone via fastboot (fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.IMG) now type fastboot oem lock. That will relock your bootloader. I think the phone turns off after that. Put it back in fastboot then type fastboot oem rebootRUU. Now run the ruu. I take no credit for this ill post the thread link when I find it

[Q] Flashed wrong kernel.. Derp

Well, I was searching for a kernel and flashed one for the ORIGINAL One X.. I have TWRP and s-off. After I flashed it it said there was no os installed when trying to reboot. When mounting USB storage it tells me it's not formatted then says it's write protected. I try to use adb to push a rom to the storage (internal and sdcard) but nothing shows up despite saying it transferred. Did I brick my phone?!
You've definitely done goofed.

I tried using adb push to send a new rom to /system and/or /sdcard but it shows up on neither
What do you mean with "original one x" what phone do you have exactly ?

I guess it was for a different version of the one x (international maybe?). I have the ATT version
It was this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44061483#post44061483
Oke, well what does this command give you for a number ?
Fastboot getvar version-main
And you can run any ruu for for your phone because you say you have s-off.
But what does the bootloader say :
A : Endeavoru ?
B : Evita ?
C : something else ?

3.18.502 - Also, it says Evita at the bootloader
As i thought, at this moment you are in the wrong forum, this is for the endeavouru one x and not the evita one xl.
Go to the AT&T HTC one XL forum and continue there.
Well to be helpful i guess you can try this :
Put the phone in the bootloader and relock the bootloader, then run this ruu with admin rights
http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/3...radio-024p320906-101303234-release-signedexe/
It should flash the phone back to full stock and you can restart again after that.
