This has become my favorite font for anything running on a screen, as it was specifically designed for user interfaces. At first glance, it looks very similar to roboto (the default font in android 4.0+), but its a tad bit smaller and drastically sharper. At least on a computer, you can make it nearly microscopic and its still completely readable.
I had wanted to try it on android for a while, but changing the fonts got more complicated with ICS (and above). I finally got enough motivation to make a flashable zip, and its gorgeous. There's no graphical weirdness like most of the other fonts you can replace roboto with... it flows perfectly with jellybean.
You kinda need to actually try it to see just how incredibly crisp and sharp it is..... the screenshots don't do it justice. Over the last 6 months or so, it has become the gold-standard of fonts for use in GUI's between me and my geek friends.

Instructions:
1) reboot into recovery
2) make a backup (...just in case)
3) flash sourcesanspro.zip
4) wipe cache + dalvik (otherwise you get bootloops due to broken font caching)
NOTE - your phone may be laggy for ~ 5-10 minutes while font caches are rebuilt
I also included a zip to restore to the stock fonts. It should be noted that sourcesanspro.zip will only replace roboto fonts, while stock.zip will replace the entire fonts folder to what is on the stock image.
Just like any other *.zip you would find here, i take no responsibility if your phone bricks or catches on fire or whatever.... i tested both of these several times already. All credit for the font goes to Adobe, I simply repackaged it for android.

Hi.
I've started to theme my sgs with darky v9.5 for my needs.
And now I also wanna mod the app's xml-files.
I read about it in some tutorials and I understand that trying is the best to learn.
But I have 2 starter-questions:
1.) For example I have a concrete modding-wish: The padding on the sides of the contact list seems very annoying to me. (Pointed in pic). I wanna reduce it and downsize the whole list to get faster overview. Somebody already modded this or knows the xml-file to do?

2.) Modding (esp. system apks) seems to be very time-consuming, because as far as I know the changes can't be viewed directly (with any tool), but the apk have to be pushed to phone and reboot.
Is there a way of faster modding / previewing the changes with the emulator or sth?
Thanks for your help,
Max

I dont know any faster method.
I know something that could help you in situation while you are hammering your head against the wall, I mean -> you just 'cant get the layout right, no matter you try'
Before I begin:
You would need to be familiar with eclipse and creating layouts there.
So..
Create new android project in eclipse
edit layout.xml; paste the contents of the file you are modding...
Workaround all errors that WILL happen
You will see layout rendered in xml file wysiwyg...
Its not easy, but if NOTHING works, it really helps.
This was the thing I did while modding the phone to have big caller picture...
Thanks, if nothing else works, I'll try this

Hey guys, I finally figured out theming on android. After a long 3 days of screwing around installing different kernels and playing with ADB to no avail, I finally found how to push/pull different apk files on my phone. This is where the fun part begins!
First a little about my background in theming:
I originally started doing system customizations on the iPhone back in the days of "Customize" where you had to open the app to theme one system resource at a time, from the list of user-uploaded content. That got better with Winterboard where it just dynamically themes anything (but keyboards) on the system by replacing files when the system starts. It took a while, but I did end up getting an exhaustive theme over the years for my iPhone. I recently switched to android though because apple has closed all(?) the exploits to allow root access.
Anyway, I'm going to start a new journey to theme the different apps in the system to remove as much of the boring black UI as possible. On first glace it looks like the android UI is very app specific, I haven't found many unified UI elements in the system framework apks. This makes my life a whole lot easier because I can modify each app separately. I'm starting a thread on this, because it looks like it'd be easy to incorporate requests from people or get people working together to make app themes themselves. So far I've only got proof of concept, but obviously that's the hardest part.

-------------Just for fun
If anyone is interested, this is what I did for my iPhone 3GS.
I got my hands on the Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 3 game & just went crazy about it.....
So, I spend a couple of hours and made a Boot Animation & just thought to share it with you to get the real Game Feel.....

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This boot animation has a comparatively longer period. So if you are in cm7 or miui, you can experience only a portion of it. Best viewed in Sense Roms.
Now added the background music, so it's much better now.......If you are using any Virtuous Roms (including the latest), use the sense 3.0 version.
Download the Version based on your Rom
Sense 3.0 based Rom - Portrait , Landscape
Sense 3.5 based Rom - Portrait , Landscape
CynogenMod based Rom - Portrait , Landscape
The MIUI version is here. Use this link. This is a .mtz file so just run it, it will do the rest.
Make sure you have you have sufficient space in /system folder, before you start with the procedure.
Procedure to install via CWM Recovery
1. Download the Flashable zip file from the above list.
2. Do a Nandroid Backup.
3. Reboot into Recovery & Flash the zip.
4. Now reboot & enjoy........
It's a nice effort but the portrait resolution just squishes it all to the point where it just looks plain ugly. Perhaps you should have made the bootanimation in landscape?
That looks pretty sweet!! Gonna give it a try!
I think that Google, during the ICS design process, decided to optimise all of their icons to XHDPI devices. With all the HD devices coming out that was the wise thing to do but when these icons were scaled down they ended up looking very blurred - almost too anti-aliased.
I decided to re-create these icons to look sharper (by removing all of the anti-aliasing, you don't need it at such a small size) adding small modifications as I go along such as changing the data indicator fonts from Droid Sans to Roboto.
Please bear in mind that this is still unfinished, I still have a lot of icons to make.
Here is a comparison:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
May I add, Roboto looks terrible at small font size.
I'll get around to making an update.zip soon, but meanwhile here is a zip file containing all of the images. If you want any other icons made, just post it's name as a reply.
Dos anybody know how to make a one-size-fits-all update.zip (like Vertumus' universal themes)? It will be a bit tedious to change icons in each and every CM9 nightly, plus bezke's AOKP and Codename Android ports!
I would like to see the compqrison but is the pic deleted???

"universal" themes are done using VillainTheme (commonly called VRTheme):

I have taken time to work on porting my German TWRP Theme metal for the Nexus 4 in English language.
- New button
- New slide graphics
- New folder and file graphics
- Colored checkboxes
- New radio button graphic
- New lock screen graphics
but look yourself
How to use:
1. Download the theme
2. On SD card open TWRP folder and create a folder called "theme", without capital letters.
3. Copy ui.zip to theme folder.
4. Restart to recovery.
The theme supports the features from version 2.8.4.0. The theme has a resolution of 768x1280
Note: If a new menu item, button or effect added at TWRP, the theme has to be adapted and expanded to reflect the new menu item, button, or effect also appears in theme. This is related because the button / menu items, etc. are read from an xml file.
Should be used in newer versions of the theme where the new features are not yet installed, while working the theme, but the new features are not displayed.
While this is only one theme for TWRP, but I write it anyway. Use at your own risk. So neither xda-developers nor do I accept any liability for damages!
