Hey guys,
I was running a stock version of android 4.2, rooted etc. Last night there was a message in my notification toggle which said i had to update.
So i clicked the message, installed the update but i think the update was corrupt or something. The update was 840kb or so.
I dont really remember what i clicked because it was late in the evening etc. Now my nexus will just show the splash screen and nothing more.
PC doesnt recognise it when i connect it.
Does anyone have an idea of how i could fix this? Would be really appreciated.
Thanks
Edit: i cant get into clockworkmod recovery too but i can get into odin mode

you shouldn't update if you're not running stock (stock recovery, stock kernel, etc), i guess that what messed your system up.
is fastboot working for you? if so, you could flash the stock image from there. i think that's the only way since recovery doesn't working for you.
good luck.

Thank you for your reply.
Yes i can go into fastboot mode, the lock state still says unlocked.
The only thing is, i can only see the big green arrow with start in it. If i press my up and down volume buttons nothing happens.
Edit: i tried rooting and installing cwm recovery using nexus root toolkit, but it says my drivers are not installed. Any idea's of how i could do that now?
EDIT2: i am able to get into cwm recovery now. But i am not able to restore anything while i did make a backup
Stop using toolkits...
And use the guide stickied here or in my sig.

you should flash the stock image first and you can go wherever you want from there.
i don't use the toolkit, i prefer manual much more convenient for me.
anyway, this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895 or http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529058 should help you flashing the stock image.
man o man, took me 4 hours but i did it.
Thanks both for the replies!

I think I have bricked my phone. I followed the instructions listed here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834228
but have when i restart the phone, it is just stuck on the words HTC
doesn't load into anything else.
What should I do?
Well as your phone powers on its not a proper brick, when it powers on and gets to the first boot screen like you say there is usually like a 99% chance it can be recovered.
Edit: stupid thanks button!
How long do you leave it on the htc bit before you power down again? maybe your just not waiting long enough.
left it on for 10 minutes.
all it says is "HTC" in green...
Are you able to get into hboot? Try holding the volume down key while you turn on the phone.
One easy thing to try would be to flash an RUU, make sure you find the correct one for your phone (Z or G2) and make sure its the latest one around.
That will return your phone to stock so you can attempt to root again.
yes, yes i can get into HBOOT.

my mistake, wasn't aware there appears to be no way to flash a new firmware on a g2 unless its by ota.... sucks
edit: just bare with us we will have an answer for you soon.
What about recovery? There should be a recovery option in the hboot menu.
Thank you so much!!
Have you got a custom recovery?
If so, flash a new rom
I tried recovery. It turns into a blackscreen with a phone in the middle and a read triangle with a ! on top of it.
I dunno if that is telling me to not turn off the phone.

no, from your description above, you just have stock.
I have an idea that you should be able to fasboot install a new recovery, then from there you will be able to flash a new rom.

Oh ok. I think I'm a bit more calm now. So is there anything you need to know? In regards to the blackscreen with the red triangle warning sign in the middle. Can reset my phone?

I know some. But not everything. Only the very basics. I have had a rooted hero before. I have had some experience with it.
I am not able to use adb tho. (As in, can't get it to work currently)
when i type "adb remount"
it says "error: device offline"
I have plugged in the USB cable.
basically all you need to do is find the clockwork mod recovery image file
put it in your adb folder
turn phone on hboot, and select fastboot
then type the following into your pc
"fastboot flash recovery [recovery.img]"
obviously replace [recovery.img] with whatever your recovery is called (and no [])
then you should be able to boot into clockwork mod recovery and from there you can install a new rom.
before I really do anything wrong here, would you be able to direct me to an image file?

i have found this thread. however, there is no option to download the recovery file.

Got a bit of a problem with installing 4.0.2 OTA on my phone. Twice i have received it, but both installs have failed. I get the same error; phone reboots into this install-mode, the androidguy pops up but after 2-3 seconds it just comes up an warning triangle and i have to take out my battery of i want to shut down the phone. Any idea why this is happening?
Both times i tried i was on mobile data, not wifi (i dont have wifi where i live atm).
Rooted and cutsom radio (XXKL1) but other than that it is stock. Also it is an yakjuxw version. HERE is a video that shows my problem.
EDIT: flashed 4.0.2 via toolkit V5.1, since i not could get it to work Now i just hope my backup is restorable.
You need the stock recovery and the correct radio for it to update successfully.

Exact same thing is happening to me. I have installed the stock recovery and everything.
I dont know what it is.
i cant remember what the stock radio is called But to get stock recovery, will uninstalling CWM do the job?
Do you have the yakju build or another variation?
You can also just flash the stock images in fastboot. They are located here.
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
I have the yakjuxw, but i downloaded the galaxy nexus toolkit v5,1 and i think i have stock recovery now, but i am not sure. Still having problems with finding out what the stock radio is, but if i dont find it i might as well flash the 4.0.3 yakju and just get done with it.
Actually, for me, I flashed 4.0.2 by doing this process here, because when I was flashing 4.0.1 I was getting the same process as the OP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21113773&postcount=195
the process for 4.0.2 in the url works fine for me but when I go into recovery mode I get the android dude on his back with the red triangle like the OP gets also. So does anybody know what I need to do to get recovery to show up properly for me on my phone?

I believe you press volume up (or down, not sure) and the power button a few times to get the recovery menu to show up.

Is it a different recovery mode than the one accessible from fastboot mode?
Its the same one. There is only one. I did some research and with the Gnex when you get to recovery and see the android down, press both volume up and down then power.
This will bring up the menu.

omg! you are right, that is such a relief to know it is there after all, all this time I was expecting it to show up once it loaded up fully. I

Yes, i did it with galaxy nexus toolkit
Hello everyone. This is my first post, but I've been lurking around for a while, I hope I'm not messing up anywhere.
So, I have this problem with my Gio. Yesterday, I decided to try and install CyanogenMod 9. It is the first time I tried to install a rom on my phone, and I read everything carefully, to avoid doing anything stupid. I had rooted my phone before, it was rather easy, since I'm not a computer illeterate, although it is my first smartphone, and I was never into this kind of things.
Well, carrying on to my problem: So, I was reading Maclaw's thread on Cyanogenmod 9, and after reading it, I started following his tutorial.
I installed Clockworkmod v2 from recovery mode, everything went smoothly and I rebooted my phone. I then tried to install the Cyanogenmod 9, but I couldn't get back to the recovery mode for some reason. Everytime I tried to boot it, it would just boot the phone, and show the "Samsung" thing it shows up at the start, and stay there.
I tried googling around for people with this issue, but found nothing. I then tried to look for issues related to CWM, and found out that it requires my phone to be at least in 2.3.3, but mine is at the stock version 2.2.1... I had no knowledge of this before I tried it, and now I'm kinda stuck. My phone still works, I can do everything with it if I boot it normally, nothing seems to be broken, apart from recovery mode not loading.
Anyone else has had this or heard of someone having this?
Any idea on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Hold power+home+ volume down
To enter download mode
Download odin and look for a tutorial, and flash the clockworkmod recovery, the one that is a .tar.md5 can be flashed via odin

I was just reading about that, and figured it was a good idea, thanks for confirming it to me
Will try it out and post later if it worked, thanks.
EDIT: It worked, thanks for the tip!
Also, if anyone is still reading this, I did the factory reset and all, is my phone still rooted or do I need to re-do it?

If you are on CM9 then your phone wil alway's be rooted, if you are on a stock ROM and you do a Hard reset then i dont know , i never tryed it
I searched everywhere on couldn't find a solution.
I wiped my galaxy nexus to install a new rom but couldn't find it on my storage and rebooted the system to check where I put it. Yes, I forgot to reinstall the software. This normally isn't a problem since I'd use the volume buttons to boot into bootloader to try again. The problem is, my volume up button hasn't worked for a while now. I can't use adb since it doesn't boot into android to do it either.
Basically, can I boot into bootloader without the volume up button or is there a different solution to my problem or is my phone SOL?
Thanks

Yes.I think you can. Download the Nexus Root Toolkit by wugfresh. Make sure the adb and fast boot drivers are installed in you PC before you proceed.
Select the Sofbricked or not booting option and do the Flash Stock+unroot. This should being u back to stock You can go ahead with rooting or anything else you want after this.

Thanks for the reply, and eventhough the toolkit doesn't work since it needs me to manually boot into the bootloader, it did tell me to use odin.
Odin worked a charm and it took a bit to find the Verizon version, but when I did worked fast and easily. Since I can't post links yet, [VZW][ODIN] Files Needed for Odin w/Instructions on rootwiki sorted me out.

Boot it holding the volume up button. This should get you into so-called "recovery" where you can, among other things, restore it to defaults.
If recovery also doesn't work (which would be unusual), boot it holding volume DOWN button. This will get you into a "download" mode where you can use ODIN to flash new recovery (such as CWM recovery which is very nice and powerful), or even flash entire firmware from scratch.
Good luck, let us know how it goes ~
[edit] oh and do all that while having it connected to USB power, in case the battery is empty.
still doesnt work

Anything doesn't work , When I boot while holding HOME and volume up (recovery) appears the blue advice in the upper left corner and about 2 segs after the cellphone restart again, again and so on, When I boot with the down (download) the process on kies working good but when ends the cellphone restart again, again and so on. I'm start to think that something in the hardware is damage :crying:
looks like you messed something up there...
Anyway, if your phone is rooted, and/or you don't care about warranty you can get it in download mode (you said it works fine with kies until reset, so I suppose it means that download mode is at least accessible).
And after that use Odin to reinstall the stock rom completely.
Or, again with Odin install custom recovery, and then whatever ROM you like.
While working with odin, be sure to stick to the guides here on XDA. (for a custom recovery see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980)

If you're not entirely stock you'll have trouble using Kies.
I myself had trouble when tried to revert to stock ROM from CM.
It failed to restore NANDroid backup every time, and I also didn't succeed in flashing the stock image with Odin as well.
In the end, I succeeded with this ROM (which is modified stock TW), usin ODIN. You can try this, just read and understand the instructions in the thread before you do anything.
Ironically, after a couple of days after reverting to stock rom I was so annoyed by the speed decrease compared to CM, that I reinstalled CyanogenMod back, found TouchWiz stuff I missed via separate apps, and I'm pretty happy with it ever since.
Bottom Line: anyways, if you already on custom stuff with altered warranty, you must get custom recovery working first, then it will be simple.
