hi i'm looking to overclock my sprint epic 4g cpu up to 1.8ghz and also the gpu to 300mahz and 72hz refresh rate
on either cyanogenmod 7 or 10
what kernel and ROM and CPU/GPU overclocking apps should I use with voltage control and what (safe) voltages should I try for the cpu and gpu ARM and Internal voltages (what build number do I need for cm 7 or 10 (either stable or nightly)
also I noticed that the slide out keyboard shift and function keys don't work on cyanogenmod 10 stable build not sure about a nightly build
I'd like to fix the keyboard too
i'd like to be able to turn the boot logo on and off and possibly change it to a different one and also add a boot up sound to the logo
should I use the franko or samurai or maybe a different kernel ?
what modem should I use for max speed (EL30 FC09 FC19 or Nexus LF2 K2 ?) and compatible rom
I know how to install everything just need advice
If all of the above isn't possible at least I'd like to get the CPU to the highest possible speed past 1.2 ghz if possible most of all and not have random reboots or lockups or sleep of death and woking keyboard and least amount of bugs in the rom
Thank you so much in advance for any advice
Do your shift and Fn keys work if you hold them down when using them? Kind of like the way you would use them on a PC keyboard?

Last thing I know of that had what you're looking for is CM9 with Samurai Kernel. The processor clocks to 1.5 Ghz and I believe the gpu is overclocked to 400Mhz. Idk what the refresh rate for the screen is, but that combo would probably be the closest to what you're looking for

^^^^this... there is no franco kernel here, that's for the epic touch... nobody has been able to overclock this phone past 1.6 Ghz... samurai had 1.6 at one point, but it was removed because there were stability issues with most phones trying to overclock that high... samurai has always been my favorite kernel from tw gb roms all the way to cm9... sadly development stopped when earthbound upgraded and there is no samurai kernel for cm10 or 10.1... everybodies phone is different and handles overclocking differently... best bet is to just keep trying combinations until you find your perfect match...

I have used it on CM9, and got it to 1.4 comfortably, but the kernel itself was quarky as hell. The battery died when unclocked and- just all in all at bad kernel.
im curious on what he did to make it do that though. Was it an app he combined into the kernel? Did he expand something?
Technically- OC"ing is just like any normal OC. INcrease the multiplier or frequency and then manipulate the voltage to handle the work. But- THe couple app i foudn that do that- like uh... setcpu, targek or something all arent supported by our rom/kernel/ something. Its rather frustrating.
With the Packman ROM im using, he combined the Performance control into the rom, and you can actually change the voltages- but.. i cant make it go faster.
TO go on with that- i still cant find a way to OC the GPU. i see people saying they got it up to 400mhz. or something. But- HOW!? an app? Kernel again!? heck, i dont even know what the stock settins are. :/
GPU overclocking is achieved in the kernel.

1. He did it by being a kernel master... 2. they aren't supported because of the kernel you're using. 3. And again, the kernel you're using. The only way to overclock the gpu is with the samurai kernel.
4. And most importantly, for everything you want out of a kernel, it's about time to learn Linux and build your own kernel...

Aww man I miss Samurai's 400MHz GPU OC... But the Voodoo defaults there is VERY terrible... Just why isn't there a kernel with ONLY GPU OC (i.e. no CPU OC up to like 1.4GHz (I think games depend more badly on GPU) and no Voodoo and such)...

If you build it, they will flash it!
Yes, for those looking for an easy way out, it's not going to happen. Learn to make a kernel then learn how to manipulate the settings. If it was easy then everyone would be doing it. No one has any other spoon fed answers.
I think not having an easy way out may be the definition of xda-developers. Forget where I read it but it's about the journey rather than the destination, which I know doesn't hold true for every one but I know it does for me.

Yea I used setcpu for the time I had my evo (a year) and it never gave me any problems. Just have "set on boot" unchecked to see if that clock speed is stable. I don't think there is an app made specifically for the evo but by all means, Google "evo overclock app" or something along those lines. Btw, all phones will not react the same to apps on the market. Just keep that in mind please

I guess what I am getting at is, on my D2 I could overclock to 1.1, 1.2, 1.3ghz but setcpu doesn't have a scaler to up my ghz(unless I am completely blind, which happens from time to time). I am currently stuck at the stock EVO clock speed.
What I am trying to figure out is how to overclock to 1.2ghz.
Thanks for the assist guys!
You need a kernel that has oc'ing capabilities. Depends on which rom you run, some only use certain kernels

Undervolting is done with kernels that support HAVS, setcpu on the other hand is for adjusting CPU speed frequencies, to undervolt you need either vipermod or incredicontrol with a kernel that supports undervolting and/ or overvolting.

Yup!
I posted this in the AOKP thread actually. I saw it fly past my twitter that it was updated for GalaxySII but figured it was for the international versions, or for that matter just non-sprint. But I updated it and it does indeed allow overclocking.
Yeah, pretty freaking sweet....cant wait to see how much more I can get out of the battery now.
I'll be even more excited when we have the source for the kernel. I would like to see some more governors available, such as Smartass. The three we have available, User Space, On Demand and Performance aren't really spectacular, though they do the job.

I subtracted 75mv from all of the voltages. So it is undervolted by 75mv. Definitely seeing longer battery life than yesterday, but the rom was also flashed yesterday, so it might just be settling in.
I have had numerous kernel panic lockups and spontaneous reboots trying to use tegrak at speeds and voltages that were perfectly stable on 2.3. I even tried to go a little higher on voltages. Still reboots. Think it just isn't ready for primetime yet.

Calkulins roms have the battery saver script in them that controls the CPU clock. Even if you over clock on Calkulins, it will go back to whatever his script says unless his script allows the app that your using to overclock.
His script disables if it sees any other app that controls cpu.

I was wondering if there are any kernels that I can install to overclock my phone further? Pics included

May I ask why you have the desire to.overclock so violently? Most the time, underclocking will even show no loss In performance and save battery. All times I have overclocked, I've never noticed a major difference.. it may be slight but not enough for me to care..

One more thing.. pegging your CPU at max ghz will eventually destroy your device. The EVO is made with a single core 1 GHz snapdragon and so anything really over 1GHz will really put a strain on your processor. Best advice would be to either flash a new kernel, ROM, or find some tweaks to decrease lag. 1.2GHz isn't healthy for your phone...
This is my first rooted device and I'd like to set the CPU frequency higher. I've read that 1600 is moderately safe and 1800 is feasible. After installing setcpu I've realized that CM10's kernel does not allow overclocking. What is the best action to take? Am I out of luck if I want to stick with CM10? Or is there another kernel I can use compatible with CM10? Thanks for reading.

Hey this might be a bit late on this thread, but Siyah has just released an updated, which works with cm10 and allows for overclocking up to 1600, and undervolting to save on that ole battery... currently for the galaxy s3
Obligatory reminder:
Not all phones are the same. Some tolerate overclock/undervolt better than others. What you WANT your phone to do may not actually be what it WILL do. Start slow, only change one step at a time. I would recommend finding the perfect oc point for your phone, then slowly, slowly working the undervolt into it.
Found this in another forum. Wanted to get exposure to the possibility.

From another poster: He references using "siyah" kernel in his S3, which appears to be an international version with the same processor as we have. He indicates the need for "stweaks". He talks about GPU "steppings" so I'm not sure if Andrielux has changed these in his kernel. I installed the app "stweaks" but it wouldn't load as it said "no kernel support".
Wow!!! What in the world. Is this for real? I wonder how stable it is. From 440 up to 800?! They are using some app called Stweaks (and the kernel of course) to do it. Love to see that on our Note 2.
And since it seems that the GPU wasn't changed much....from the Galaxy s2 series... "700 Mhz - 1100 mv" is only 75mv higher than the stock 440...and accoring to the forums stable. A 70% increase in speed and stable. This is a must have for any newer kernels.

Stweaks slow overclocking but if you OC it by 100mhz laugh amd giggles numbers. What kind of actual gpu performance are you getting. I see with.stock better real life performance.during.gaming versus his kernel. So if I were to oc just to match stock is pointless to me.
why overheat the gpu when I can get the same performance on stock kernel.
