I wonder on popular custom ROMS what metadata info is typically attached to a photo, if I have GPS settings off? Email, or real name? Could a person (as opposed to law enforcement) somehow trace this photo back to me ?

I think only info like the focal length of the aperture, the fact that the phone is a SGS3 and the ambient exposure used for the photo.
Things like IMEI numbers wouldn't be stored with this, so they can't identify you directly, just the model of phone you used to take the photo.
Audio files store metadata. Images store Exif data. this data is encoded into the image file. some of it is read by windows but you can read alot more data from an exif reader. here is what mine puts out.

Description from official site:
VT Contact Picture finds and allows adding a Picture to Contact from Facebook.
It extends Contact menu by adding new menu item "Add Picture from Facebook".
Picture is searched in Facebook Name fields.
You can adjust search criteria to match the name that could be found for this person.
While downloading pictures, you can browse them, view full-screen preview, and choose to add to your contact.
VT Contact Picture uses your mobile internet connection, so normal internet carrier charges apply.
It is fun to set photos for all your existing contacts without having to take photos – just find them on-line.
This is an easy and fast way to get a persons picture attached to your Contact.

Ok so I am on Project X. Agat GB27 Kernal.
I have had a couple issues since flashing just haven't had time to post. For one, I can not send/recieve picture messages. When I send a pic it shows up to me like it sent successfully but the person I send them to does not receive them. Also when someone sends me a pic it just has a button to download the pic and when I click it, it does nothing.
Second my camera is very buggy. When I open it, 90% of the time I do not have a live display, just a black screen. I can blindly take the pic and it turns out fine, but the display does not work before I take the pic. It also gets a weird tint when it DOES show a display. Same with videos, When I take a video I will get a display but it is VERY laggy and has a bunch of weird colors. After I take the video and I view it, It actually turns out fine. But it is the display as I am trying to take the pic/video that is screwy. Any ideas?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
How did you flash? I have not experienced any of those issues?
Check your md5sum and make sure it was a good download, also I just released a new version you could try (v3.4)

Camera problem: red/blue/purple noise in low light photos
Same story from M7 continues with M8. Taking pictures in low light has red/blue/purple noise/tint.
Here is video sample:

You can clearly see on video and picture heat shielding starts degrading, thus parts of the heat transfers to sensor.
Mine M8 produced in May 2014, serial number HT45.
Sensor is Omnivision OV4688 4M.
You can check sensor via file manager, no root is required.
For example, in Solid explorer:
Choose System Root - Sys - android_camera - sensor - open as - Text file - SE TextEditor.
Please report if you anyone has such issue.

Background: Carbonite Mobile only allows files saved/downloaded to device to be accessed via their app / saved files option.
Problem: I have saved MP3 audio books to my device.* When I click on one, I am only presented with 2 app choices: Google Music & VLC.
"Smart Audiobook Player" is not an option:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ak.alizandro.smartaudiobookplayer
See attached screen shots.
This is a problem because "Smart Audiobook Player" has features specific to listening to audiobooks (saving playback position within an MP3) that other apps don't have.
I assume that there is something that determines which apps are associated with which file types.
On a rooted device, can this be changed?
Is there some piece of metadata in the MP3 that will identify it as an audiobook vs a music file?
NOTE: I looked in the 'reset default apps' menu in Settings > Apps ..
Pls see attached screen shots.
Thanks!

Has anyone been able to get the built-in document scanner to work on the camera app? I try to point at documents and it never pops up at all. This feature was almost flawless on the S21 ultra I had. It's little things like this that makes me wish I kept the S21 ultra. Samsung builds in features that takes Google years to implement in the pixels. Depending on what the S22 ultra ends up having, I may have to switch back.
It's the same with the scrolling screenshot. It barely works on Google and with only select apps. Samsung's scrolling screenshot works way better.
I don't think you can with the native camera app they must have removed it for Android 12. You may need to use Google Drive as you can scan documents and go from there.
I think in general you can always use Google Lens on any image, or even if you don't and you have a picture of a document, Google Photos has sometimes OCR'd the photo so that you can select text, etc. You can start with Google PhotoScan to get a proper straight and flat looking document without glare.
Here's an example (this is using Google Photos on the computer, after I took a screenshot on my phone).
"Copy text from image" in the upper right corner, and the result in the lower image:
