[Q] Wind Mobile Note II - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am going to be purchasing a Note II through Wind mobile, model number t889v (I think). As a Canadian, I am used to not having a forum for my devices, but other forums always end up having the information/roms I need. Is this the right variant's forum, or should I head to a different one? Anyone here using a Wind device who has had any success?

This is correct forum. I am also using wind and my phone is now rooted with twrp. Just read before you flash anything.

I always do, no Cyanogenmod yet? I am sad.

I wouldn't, I've heard mixing the Canadian and T-mobile ROMs is a one-way ticket to brick. Stick to ROMs designed specifically for the SGH-T999 (T-Mobile version).
We could port it. Why do you want that rom?

Don't mention it. I was so stupid and didn't look around before purchasing this phone.
I am a Canadian Mobilicity user, I usually buy T-Mobile phone, but this time i didn't realize Mobilicity carry GS3. With T-Mobile custom Rom there alot of junk apps. Such as T-Mobile Hot-Spot, Access T-Mobile else. Since I saw SGH-T999 and SGH-T999v are the same spec just wonder if I can load Mobilicity Rom to my T-Mobile GS3 phone. So that i can use their custom apps
You can jut copy their apps to /system/app/ and they should work.

[Q] ATT i317 vs. Bell i317M

I am looking for a Note 2 to work with Bell Mobility in Canada.
From a spec comparison the i317 and i317M (Bell/Telus) are the same in terms of frequency, 2G 3G and LTE.
1. Can I use an unlocked ATT on Bell? What would be the problem/limitations?
2. What is the "M" anyway? I had a i9000M and it seems to be a different modem? But what modem, what will it affect?
Bottom line: if an ATT i317 will work fine with my Bell, I'd rather get an ATT phone. Looking into the future, an i317 will have more custom ROM support than an i317M.
Thanks.

1. Yes
2. The m just signifies that it's the Canadian model

Follow up question:
1. If the m simply denotes a canadian model with no other difference, why is rogers note 2 an i317 ans not i317m?
2. Do you think the i317m will need to be flashed differently than the i317? I know that my i9000m needs to be flashed somewhat differently than the i9000.

not sure how to change title or poll.
I clicked edit, and I am able to change the content, but the title is fixed.
Happy to do it if I can be shown how.
Meanwhile, does anyone care to answer my questions?
Thanks.
I'd guess that the difference is due to bilingual labels, licences, documentation, packaging, software(?), etc. The FCC ID's are the same (and I am guessing that the AT&T Note II's IMEI/sn label doesn't have an Industry Canada ID).

Can someone show me how to find the FCC ID's for i317 and i317M?
what does it mean when 2 devices have the same FCC ID? Does it mean that the hardware is identical?

FCC ID is found under the battery
My Bell Note II is: A3LSGHI317
For a user, its same. No difference at all.
Just at internal documents its different, as Canadian model also supports French as official language.

This isn't necessarily true. I had an HTC Desire Z, it's American counterpart was the G2. The only hardware difference was the 3G radios, and they share a single development community
Our Note II should be identical hardware wise so we should have identical rom support
my rogers one is i317m not i317

Hi,
I also want to replace my I9000M by a i317/i317M.
Did you finally buy an AT&T phone?
Are you satified?
Did you have to flash a "Bell" modem in it?
Regards,

Does there exist a method to get the I317M to work on Wind/Mobility (AWS)?

I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question. Most people (including myself) who've attempted flashing the T889V_Modem on the Galaxy Note 2 using the JRO03C hardware revision (AT&T, Rogers, etc), namely GN2 starting with product code I317, will experience bootloop.
Is there a way to get the I317 working on the Wind/Mobilicity/TMobile network?
Where is the wrinkle here?
I really think that the radio is a hardware+software thing. And to my knowledge, I317 doesn't support 1700/2100mhz (AWS).
I really hope it's just some sort of software radio lock though.

MetroPCS Version

I have the MetroPCS (SGH-M919N) version of the S4. I don't see a specific forum for my model. I was wondering, since T-Mobile and MetroPCS have merged, can I use the same instructions on this forum to root my device. Thanks in advance.

Truthfully, I was wondering why the MetroPCS version didn't have its own forum.
The S4 is particularly important, since it's the first MetroPCS smartphone to use T-Mobile's GSM network instead of their standard CDMA. You can use your S4 in places where you never had MPCS coverage before -- in Portland, Oregon, for example.
The next place I'm going to look for comments on the SGH-M919N is in the T-Mobile forum, since we're already using their network anyway.
The standard T-Mobile version of the phone seems to be called the SGH-M919 (sans N).
Let me know if you find anything. I'm dying to root this phone and get rid of all this Samsung and MetroPCS bloatware, thanks.

Well as far as the S4 all the S4 and even the international quad core version are the same phone. So you wont have any issues there. And as far as not having it's own forum. XDA dont use lower class carriers like MetroPCS and Cricket. You could go to AndroidForums.com they have metro pcs phones in there

Thats not true at all. If they were all exactly the same they'd have one root method for all the devices.

I was able to root my metropcs S4 using the instructions for the T-Mobile version. But now I can't see the contents of my SD card. The funny thing is when I install CyanogenMod, I can see it just fine. The Sd card seems to not be mounting in CWM or in the stock rom. Is this a permissions issue or what? Any help would be appreciated.

If it wasn't all the same devices then people couldn't flash roms in between carriers and international. These are the same phone hardware. Only thing that change is the modem. Unlike the S3 where you can't flash roms from international but you can between US carriers.
And for root. On my S3 they had to get a stock rom Odin with root in there because it would striped the flash counter.

You seem unaware of this: T-Mobile not only bought MetroPCS a few months back but are using their own network mainly -- not simply MetroPCS's -- for the Galaxy S4 currently sold by MetroPCS.
The whole reason I bought a MetroPCS S4 is because I can use it anywhere in the US that you can access the T-Mobile network and because I can unlock it and switch to T-Mobile if I like in three months' time.
Both T-Mobile and MetroPCS have confirmed this, and it isn't true for any other current MetroPCs phone.
Also: Most analysts have concluded that the introduction of a cutting-edge phone like the S4 is unprecedented for that carrier and is likely T-Mobile's idea.
The phone was was $100 cheaper than from T-Mobile and the monthly service is a lot less expensive (unless you can use Google Voice with a legacy plan on T-Mobile).
So why was it again that you felt the standards of XDA members were too high for them to use MetroPCS?
Oh, and the single difference in iterations of the phone itself appears to be one added letter. T-Mobile's S4 is the M919; the MetroPCS/T-Mobile version is M919N.
Those are the reasons I'm hoping that someone at XDA might confirm that this is essentially the T-Mobile iteration.
For people who've been wondering whether these iterations of the S4 are the same:
They really are.
Have a look at this conversation between a person rooting their MetroPCS S4 and a ROM dev for the MetroPCS S3:
http://androidforums.com/metropcs-galaxy-s4-all-things-root/740568-metro-pcs-gs4-root-sgh-m919n.html
the metropcs sgs4 is literally the same device as the tmo one with a new model number, after talking with the cm folk it seems they arent going to make a seperate build, just adding support to the tmobile one
when you install rom manager and tell it to flash cwm you can pick the tmobile/metropcs variant
thanks, and no there wont be any updates as far as you can tell, you are best off . . . installing it and choosing tmobile sgs4 as the recovery.
this phone is so tmobile they dont even mention metropcs in the apn's to connect to data :/
after consulting with the cm guys they arent even going to do a separate cyanogenmod build for the metropcs versions, you guys will be expected to flash the tmobile roms.
everything ive been told is use teh tmo cm10.1 builds (id hold off on 10.2 for now). make a nandroid, if it doesnt work out well revert

Son in the end, is it gonna get its own forum section or would any tmo ROM work with it? Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the s4 use MetroPCS' LTE and TMobile's HSPA+ 3G, thereby bringing the best of both, real LTE and high speed 3g?

I've had no problem using CF-Auto-Root method on my two metro S4s. Have rooted, unrooted, and rerooted a couple times without issues.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294005 post #2 is how you root metro s4.
Do you have latest version of Odin, Samsung USB drivers installed, and Kies turned off? If you have all these covered, it should be just downloading and flashing the CF-Auto-Root TAR file and done. Not sure why your phone would be bricked from this.
I know it is late but if you are still using metoPCS S4 then root is now very simple.you can do that with Odin. You have to download CF-Root file. Then just Flash it via Odin Flashing tool.Done!!

How would I flash an unlocked SGSIII on a diff carrier?

Hi All,
I just picked up a beautiful SGSIII. It is originally on T-Mobile, I am on AT&T. The phone is unlocked and works fine. My question is, would I flash a rom for the T-Mobile version or for the AT&T version? Or would both roms be the same. I've not yet been in this situation. I've flashed all of my smart phones, just not an unlocked one on as different carrier.
Also, is the hardware internally the same between models? Do they use different parts? I know the outsides can be slightly different.
Thanks in advance. I did a qick search on this forum and didn't see anything to help me.
T-Mobile phone= ROMs meant for T-Mobile phone
You could flash T-Mobile ROMs on an at&t phone and vice versa, but you may end up with APN/data issues. STAY AWAY FROM THE INTERNATIONAL THREAD, DOWNLOAD AND FLASH ANYTHING FROM THERE WILL AND YOU WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
basically the same, slightly different hardware.
Before you go crazy with flashing ROMs, look into backing up your imei.
