Okay, so today I downloaded the Cm 10 stable build. I flashed it, and when my phone came back on, no signal. It connects to Wifi as well as bluetooth, but no Sprint. I went back to recovery, wiped again, re installed and also installed the gapps. Still no success. So I figured it could have been the modem. I felt like going to lj7 anyways so I just flashed LJ7 from samfirmware through odin. Still having problems. I'm a fairly smart guy, I've had about 12 android phones ever since the G1. Every single one rooted, im a flashaholic. Could anybody help? Do I call sprint? I have TEP.
If you have tried everything else like, updating prl, flashing another rom or restoring a nandroid and you still have no signal you can give this a go. I've seen this happen to a couple of people while trying to update their PRL.
Go to Qbking's website at www.qbking77.com and find the section for UNROOT/UNBRICK. Click that and find the section for the SGS3 and follow his instructions.
Their might be an easier way, but like I said I've seen it work for several people. Billard412 might have an easier way also, he's been very helpful to quite a few people around here. Good luck and hope you get back up and running.
I had a similar issue while flashing ROMs, no data regardless of what backup/new ROMs I flashed.
What I did was flash a ROM based on TouchWiz (Stock, I used the FreeGS3 ROM) and ran the following dialer code: ##72786#
This will reactivate your device on Sprint's network and should kick the network in the butt to get your data working again. It won't wipe any data on your device.

I have looked around and am still not sure which way would be best to un-root my Evo 4g. Can I just use ( wipe data/factory reset ) then update my contacts thru asurion ? and reload the apps i want from the market ? right now i am in ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.05 ( it was originally rooted with unrevoked ) not unrevoked forever. I thought i would like to try the latest official build for a while. ( not looking forward to the sprint bloatware ) or would the easiest thing be to try and update to the latest ClockworkMod or some other build. Thanks for any info you might have.
Best way to unroot is to grab the unrevoked s-on tool. Flash that and run a ruu or grab a stock non rooted rom.

so i guess wipe data is really no good ?

Not really sure what you are asking here. A factory reset will NOT unroot you, it will just reset whatever rom you are on. And updating contacts through Asurion? Asurion is your insurance provider, they have nothing to do with contacts....
I thought i would like to try the latest official build for a while.

You don't have to unroot to do this, just flash a rooted stock rom. This way you stay rooted. If you unroot, and then update to the latest stock rom, it will be VERY difficult to re-root.
or would the easiest thing be to try and update to the latest ClockworkMod or some other build.

I think you need to read a LOT more about rooting before you proceed to do any more, you don't really seem to know what's going on. ClockworkMod is your recovery, which has nothing to do with your rom. Updating Clockwork will not update your rom, or unroot you.
LOL I guess you are right. A LOT more reading in my future.. Thanks though.
I guess I will go ahead with the idea to update to the newest rom. I thought because ClockworkMod gave me the option to " wipe data/factory reset. " it would set it to factory default, which I thought might be un-rooted.
Side note: Asurion also syncs my phone contacts. I had to use it once when my phone was lost. to update / sync the new phone. It worked very well. Google sync stopped working long ago. I get an error message every time.
But thanks again. that post was very helpful to point me in the right direction. and make me feel a little foolish LOL BE WELL

did you try setting up a new gmail account? or maybe jsut delete it on your phone and re-set it up.
not yet. but i will soon. ill let you know how it goes. I've read that it works for some and not for others. haven't found a lot of info directly from Google though. it seems they don't acknowledge the issue. but I am sure i'm not the only one experiencing the error message.
If you really like the new sprint os but hate the bloatware, why not use a rooted sprint rom that one of the devs has made, kind of exactly what sprint/htc gives you but minus the bloat!
Thanks I will. i'm very new to this, how do i go about getting the correct one ? as you can see from above. I have Alot more reading to do.
just did a search on the rom you are running. How do you like that one.
The Rom I am running is great! Just can't post the link to it in this forum due to forum rules. But the Rom I am running is similar to a stock rom, just not a stock rom of an evo 4g. It's ics os which stands for (ice cream sandwich) the new HTC os. Its the stock upgrade for most of their new phones such as the Samsung Galaxy SII. Evo 4g was left out, but due to the devs on this site and others the evo 4g will be just fine!
Edit: Well there is alot of reading and research involved. But for me the best kind of research is trial and error. I read up on certain roms that interest me that have key perks. Such as ICS (newer roms), or wimax enabled (4g enabled and typically on the older roms). Then I read up on peoples response to the roms, what issues they have had, how they have fixed them, how the developer has fixed them. And then after that I'll flash the roms and see how they run. Usually a day or two of use can tell you if you like it or not. Its like a car test drive!
That's Great. I will look around a little more. and get a new rom, I'll probably try the one you mentioned, ( found the link ) Hey, I really appreciate the info, I just need the time to screw around a little more. LOL. Be Well. I'll let ya know how it goes. It is pretty interesting.
Yes on the site you are currently on, there should be a few helpful tips on how to flash the roms and kernels properly. Good luck, also a bunch of great tips on the CM7 Wiki
All of a sudden, across different ROMS and even in stock/rooted, even with Google voice, my phone isn't receiving any texts. No notifications, nothing. I can see them if I open G-Voice in the inbox, but not if I open Messaging or Go SMS, but this started before I even installed G-Voice. Before that, nothing.
It started yesterday. Anyone else having this problem?? Is Sprint having issues or something?
Haven't had any of those problems and I'm in sprint too

I just reflashed my radios and now I'm nandroiding back to stock/rooted to update Profile and PRL....
Hope that does it
EDIT
Looks like reflashing the radios worked. AS soon as I got booted into stock, a ton of messages started coming in
ok, so how does one go about reflashing the radios? did you do that and follow through with the nandroiding back to stock like you said?
I'm sorry. I have an HTC Evo 4g, rooted, originally had CM7 on it when the sms issue happened. took it to my friend and he put CM9 on it to see if going to a newer ROM would help. it didn't. he stated that I would probably have to go back to stock, reinstall sms from there (?) and then go back to a rom if I wanted.
I have been googling the issue and found this: forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?p=34337380#post34337380 which had directions to unroot and go back to Froyo, then reroot and reinstall the CM7 ROM. If I don't have to go through all that I would love not to, and this thread is much newer than that one.
also: I don't think I have a copy of my original HTC Sense or whatever base setup. not sure if the guy who rooted my phone for me saved one... also, don't think I have a copy of the CM7 I had installed. I do however have a .exe of the CM9 I currently have. Honestly, I like some of the settings on CM7 more than the CM9 I have, but oh well, I guess.
Anyway, sorry to ramble. I have had this issue not receiving text messages randomly since about November 9th. I am on a Sprint Evo but it is flashed to Cricket.
Thank you for the help! I am learning a lot as I have been looking all this up, but more info would definitely help.
-Amber.
EDIT: Ok, updated the Radios with CM-EVO_Radio-2.15.00.12.19_PRI-2.33_WiMax_NV.zip. I did not nandroid into the stock rom though because I don't think I have it saved. I've found a few apparently-stock roms on xda but I read something else that said what looks like stock could just be another rom and not have all of the original settings refreshed. I am pretty sure that when I had CM9 put on my phone to try to fix the sms issue they did a clean wipe before they installed it, but I could be wrong.
I still have not received any of my still-missing texts. =( I can still send which makes me think it isn't necessarily that I'm flashed to cricket... any other help would be most welcome. thanks.

Are there in apps in existence that will restore a phone's proper mms/sms setting after being flashed?
Coming from an EVO 4G I thought I had a pretty good grip on installing roms. A week after getting and rooting my S3 I'm still gun shy. I want to install Jelly Bomb but I keep seeing posts about flash counters and dirty flash. I've never heard this mentioned before. Are these Samsung exclusive terms? I wanted to go easy and find a Rom as close to Stock as possible with the ability to remove apps to get my feet wet but haven't found one. This phone seems easier to brick than the EVO. Am I right? Also, I see things referencing Touchwiz and fishing it. Very confused. Samsung's version of Sense I guess?

Flash counters can be reset pretty easy these days. all roms labeled as having TW or touchwiz are pretty much stock with things like battery saving mods or battery hogging apps removed that are usually not needed"debloated".

Here's what you do...former evo'er here as well...
Grab the one click Odin LJ7 that you will find in sg3/android dev. Titled (root)odin one clicks by billard. Read the post so you understand how to use it. Save it to your CPU. That will save you if you ever brick your shiny new phone.
Go on you tube and search qbking77....you'll find every video you want regarding rooting and installing cmw
After that its the exact same way to flash ROMs as your evo. I promise.
Good luck

I luv this rom, super themed though, not everyone likes all the blue. For me everything works. Just the statusbar after a reboot, you have to pull down notification bar once to get it to show up. Other than that no problems, kernal in 10.2 allows overclocking also.
this post sent from my Jellybombed GalaxySIII
Your fine then...just install cmw and your good to go.
The galaxy 3 is different than the evo in the sense that its very easy to root and unroot using Odin. The evo is a pain to unroot.
Make sure your grab that one click Odin and save tho because it will bail you out of trouble if something gets screwed up. You could run that and it will return you to stock or stock rooted (your choice depending on what file you download).
Anyways. Install cmw. Download ROM to your SD or internal SD. Hold volume up, home, power to cmw. Wipe/factory reset x3, wipe cache, advanced/wipe dalvik, install ROM, reboot
By the way. If you want what you posted in op keep stock but rooted. If you want a better kernel flash team sonics or jelly bomb with kt747....but if I were you I'd go SlimBean...enjoy
One other thing. What's this business about downloading a modem?
The roms are not modem dependant. And chances are if you're on stock you already have the latest modem. If you want to confirm go in the about section of settings and look at your baseband. should end in LJ7. Like I said though its not really important
If the modem isn't that important, why can't I connect to Sprint's network at all? I was working on installing the Goodness ROM which said I had to install a particular modem. I downloaded all files to the computer as suggested, transferred them to the phone then used TWRP as my backup and installed the ROM and the modem as stated. When I went to reboot it told me that there was no ROM installed. So I went back to my recovery installed it and now I can not connect to the network at all. Can someone please help? I need my phone as I am a Paramedic and I talk to the hospitals with it when I am bringing them a pt.

Not trying to sound harsh here but if that's the case just stay stock rooted. You need the phone brother...peoples lives are depending on it...lol
On a lighter side, I do t have experience with that ROM. But sounds like a bad flash. Wipe/factory reset...cache....dalvik...and I even format the internal SD...haven't had any problems
Open the dialer and hit ##72786# Should set ya straight
Oh well that didn't work. I watched the QBKing77 video and followed those instructions. Install took way less than I expected. Maybe two minutes? I pressed reboot and it rebooted back into recovery. That didn't go so well.
So I would like to get back into rooting, but I have some concerns from the last time I rooted a phone (HTC EVO 4G), that maybe you guys could help quell. :silly:
So the last time I rooted, everything went successfully and I made proper backups but unless I was using stock clockwork recovery mod I had some serious carrier issues, the biggest of which was I had absolute zero stock voicemail functionality only after a day of setting up a Google voice account I managed to get some Voicemail functionality in Cyanogenmod. The whole experience was unbelievably frustrating since the phone would also miss calls and not tell me (missed calls would show up out of the blue an hour or two after my friends had initially called). However I did have all the benefits of rooting. Maybe someone has an answer to what I ****ed up when I did this because other EVO users that were running cyanogen were clueless to what my problem was or what caused it.
Second I heard there's some strange IMEI bug that happens on galaxy s3s when rooting that I don't quite understand. I'm trying to get myself a list of successive steps to safely root my GS3. I noticed there's a lot of root guides but I'm wondering which is considered to be the most up to date and safest. found QB root guide if that's the most optimal.
Third, will rooting still let me wifi tether for free? This was a hugely important feature to me since my internet situation is more sketchy more often than not.
Fourth, I don't understand why CM10 is considered to be such a badass mod, is it performance optimization? Some killer feature that's going over my head? I assume it's a 4.1.2 version for S3 owners (one of the main reasons I'd like to root is so I can take advantage of the new multi-window feature).
Fifth, Can I still install OTA updates? Props to MikeWjF for the concise answer.
Is there any key things I'm missing out on, your advice is much appreciated guys!
Yeah I had weird quirky problems like that on my OG EVO as well on AOSP ROMs. I ended up sticking with Sense based ROMs and pretty much stayed problem free. AS far as this phone goes, i've only flashed Touch Wiz based ROMs so far and haven't ran into any problems.

Alright stick to my original UI thanks for the advice!
As far as OTA updates go, no, not unless the ROM itself has an OTA updater in it that updates said ROM. When rooted you should never accept a factory OTA update. I don't think it's even possible on AOSP anyway.

Using odin 3.04
I followed this and hadn't an issue with Odin hanging at all. Took maybe 2 min max to get everything done.
Please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot or if I broke some forum rule, I have never posted here but I have read a ton, thanks for all the help you guys have posted by the way.
First off I am not by any means an expert on computers and rooting but I have a decent understanding of the basics and can easily follow online instructions to root. I obviously have a d2att, I recently rooted it. I was happy with it unrooted for nearly a year but when samsung released the 4.3 update my phone really started sucking. Eventually I decided to root just to get a rom that functions better. I have been running gummy rom kit kat, I think its the nightly from march 10th, I have had no real issues other than some random reboots here and there. My mom begged me to root her d2att because she also was tired of the buggy samsung 4.3 update. I eventually rooted hers, even though I really didn't want to, knowing that I would get calls about every little issue and I would have to run and fix it... anyway
She has had issues that I have not had, she says that her phone randomly turns to silent periodically and causes her to miss calls, and she also says her bluetooth is intermittent. I don't use blue tooth at all so I wouldn't know but I have not had an issue with randomly going to silent. I have tried a lot of custom roms over the past 2 months since I rooted, including CM11, CM10 (all of them), AOKP, slimroms, of course Gummy, and a variety of others. All of them have had some major bug that is unbearable, from not connecting to wifi or not sending and receiving MMS, except for gummy which I have only had the random reboots.
Okay, so when I rooted mine originally I made a nandroid copy of the original rom after I rooted it, I didn't realize but somehow this nandroid file created to my internal memory instead of my sd card, so when I loaded a custom rom it was deleted. Like I said I'm far from an expert and that was a huge mistake. So anyway when I rooted my moms (same phone) I made a nandroid of her stock rom after the root and saved it to my computer, tablet, flash drive, external hd... etc.
Now that she is having problems with the absolute best ROM that I have found functionality wise, I thought I would restore her stock rom and debloat it, try my best to get it running better. I used her nandroid back up and restored my phone to it, only to get a ton of errors, everything was force closing. I kept getting the popups that "unfortunately ... has stopped" they were nonstop. Literally all I could do was hit ok and try to do the same with the next window, finally I get rid of those and the phone wouldn't run any apps or make any calls etc. So I rebooted to recovery and went restored my nandroid that I made earlier that day and all is fine with my phone again.
So here is my questions. First off when I made the nandroid of her stock rom I renamed the file STOCKROM, that way I would def know what it is and to not delete it. Will renaming a nandroid file make it not work correctly?
Also would a nandroid back up of her phone simply not work correctly on mine? I thought it would but it def does not. Maybe there is saved data that doesn't match my sim card.. I have no clue.
If I used this nandroid on her phone do you think it will work corretly?
If I messed up the file be renaming it, does anyone have a backup for stock that I can possibly use?
Last but not least, any recommendations for custom roms for d2att? I really just want speed, and no bugs
I am really sorry about the excessively long post, but I wanted to fill in the background info before I asked my questions, in case it was needed. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Again please forgive me if I broke a forum rule or posted in the wrong spot, I don't typically post on any forums ever, I just tend to read the posts of others. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP, GREATLY APPRECIATED.

If you decide to go back to stock 4.3, this thread should help. AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore
I've never had to use a nandroid and definitely have not tried one on a phone different from where it was made, but from reading in the past I don't believe that renaming it is causing the problem. I believe it is probably due to either trying it on a different phone or the file structure may have been changed when you moved it to the pc. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in regarding the nandroid on your phone. If it is still on her phone I think it may work.
thanks

You MUST have the UCUEMJB or UCUEMJ2 bootloader and the UCUEMJB modem installed before proceeding or this ROM will not work properly. Your data and wifi may be broken if you do not do this first. These are available here: Bootloader and Modem Options
