Hey all. I haven't been active in a while. I'm an employee for sprint down in Fort Worth Texas, and internally I cant find an answer for this (also since the phone hasn't been out very long). When connected to LTE, my phone doesn't show any bars at all. They're all greyed out, but I'm connected no issue. Does anyone else have this issue or am I the only one?

Mine works fine. When I get closer to the tower I get blue bars. You must just be at the edge of the range. I get 1 to bars in my house and 6 bars when I leave my addition.

It usually doesn't show any, but I've gotten bars a few times, even up to full.
That's what i figured all. Hopefully they fix that in a software patch.
I work in the corporate store that just opened in Alliance Town Center. Transferred from the Denton Sprint store.

Something i noticed. When i dropped signal bars i wasn't able to send sms. Airplane mode and it connected, few minutes later it was on lte and giving off readings. All screen shots taken in same spot.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
Mine does the same, and pretty randomly it seems. Sometimes I'll look down and I've got full or nearly full 4G signal. I'll look again minutes later and have 0 bars, but still firmly connected to 4G. Speedtest app shows little to no difference in ping or speed (69-87 ms ping, 30-35 Mbps down consistently) in both 4G situations . Yet, my Signal strength reading from the Network menu under About phone is all over the chart.
Quite the conundrum.

Kind of a stupid topic but thought I would ask. Has anyone else in the Thornhill/Vaughan area noticed much stronger HSPA/3G signal strength?
In my entertainment room in the basement I used to get NO HSPA/3G signal and always switched to Edge (2G) so I can make and receive phone calls. I would also get about 1-2 bars in 2G (Edge). Today however I noticed that I got full bars HSPA/3G and they stay full. I thought it was a bug and noticed my iPhone also had full bars.
So anyone else or am I just bugging out?

You can use something like Open Signal Maps to see the towers around. They probably just put up a new one near your house...

7000Mb/s or 7000MB/s?
Anyway, regardless of units, you seem to have a super internet connection using HSPA+/HSPA
My guess is 7Mb/s.
So, LTE is not in my area as of yet. Every once in a while, I travel to the city which has LTE. So my question, should I just turn it on when I know I'm going to be using it or can I just leave it on all the time? Will it drain my battery? Thanks!
I would just turn it on when u need it. I'm sure it draws battery cause it will constantly scan for lte

Thanks, much appreciated!
It makes absolutely no difference which mode you have it set to unless you have LTE in your area. It will not drain any additional battery. There is one exception... If you have a Sprint Airrave (home signal booster for areas with poor service), you want to keep it on cdma mode. Cdma/lte mode when connected to the Airrave disrupts text messaging.

Doesn't at all affect my airvana. When I 1st got this phone there was a provisioning issue that disrupted text messages only when connected through airave.

yeah, that makes no sense. a radio searching for a signal once a day is going to draw more power than a radio not searching at all. Now think about if you leave it on all the time. its going to be searching for a LTE signal at whatever interval that the LTEscan timeout and wakeup is set at.
so, short answer, if you are not in an LTE area, turn it off
I was in a building and had full bars but could not make a call, it kept saying "not registered on network". so i selected an ATT network and when i try to switch back it says "error searching for networks". also when i hit "select automatically" it sits on the "automatic registration" screen until the end of time. anyone have any ideas? I cant make calls, or get data. I can use WIFI fine, and even WIFI calling.
Stock ICS rom with faux Kernel. I had some system apps frozen with TB but i defrosted them all and restarted, problem remains.
Disabled WIFI calling, ReEnabled WIFI calling, then disabled it again and when I disabled it the last time I had full bars, then I just selected network automatically, worked real quick and I had 4G back too...not sure what caused it but its good now.
It's normal. Sgs3 can't roam on other towers. If you have T-Mobile it will only connect to T-Mobile towers. Have the same issue with a few different sgs3 phones. Latest being unlocked an using an at&t SIM and it does the same thing, will only connect to at&t towers. No roaming on other towers.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I think it won't roam if there's a tmobile tower detected. If there are no tmob towers it should let you roam.

Roaming is not device dependent. It's cell tower dependent. Each area is zoned. If T-Mobile has an agreement in said area with att, then you can roam. If the tower you are near is an att tower and there are no roaming agreements, then you won't be allowed to roam. And as the doc says, you most certainly will not be allowed to roam if there is T-Mobile service. But I hope and feel optimistic about the metro PCs merger. I feel that will greatly allow us to have a deeper area of coverage as well as more areas having service.

Are you reporting zero coverage in your home when you used to get full 4g? Have you tried moving to another location and seeing if it worked?
Or are you saying you have service but it's just not making phone calls and connecting to data?

Until I turned wifi calling off, on, and and off again..... I had 0 service. I started at the hospital, and and remained when I went home, about 2 hours.... Reboots did not affect it..... I originally turned on wifi calling when I went nto the hospital because there was no service, but they have wifi..... But even when I left the hospital, I still didn't have service for hours, until I switched wifi calling off, and on, and and off again.... Then all of the sudden full signal and 4G came back. I need to mention that outside of the hospital in have had nearly full signal strength everywhere in my county including my home before and after this incident.

Sounds to me like either the wifi calling feature got hung somehow leaving you stuck sorta in between it shutting off and the cellular side turning bback on (if that even makes sense!), or there were some issues with the tower in the area, and once maintenance was complete, you got your signal back.
Just guessing here!

If you are on tmibile with the note 2 and having data issues. You are not alone. It's tmobile side. I would advice people to call and let them know. Does your 4G even work? Mine is stuck on Edge since yesterday. I live on the 4th floor of my house (roof-ish) so really shouldn't have problems up here. In fact, I never did, until literally yesterday morning.
I live on the 3rd floor apartment with nothing behind my building and the tower is visible from my patio. Yes my says 4g all day long.

I had similar issues when T-Mobile was refarming their towers in my area to add 3.5g via 1900 mhz, especially midnight to morning. Not sure if that's your issue, though.
Signal would get weak, speed slow, sometimes only edge. Lasted about a week or so.
same here

I'm not sure whether it's because of root or not, but it has to be the phone. My girlfriend has a different phone than mine and hers was working perfectly inside and outside, whereas mine would not want to load anything, it would drop to edge and then to no signal at all. After getting a replacement phone, it's working fine.

Just called 611 asked for tech support on the automated system. When you get the tech you will have to do a new apn but not to worry if you tether it wont affect it. They will do a number of other trouble shoot things. Just tell them its been happening to you for a couple weeks. If they say call us back tell them no. Ask to open up a service ticket. All is well in my home now. Let me know if this helps. And you can also call customer care first and tell them that im not happy with my data speed connection and see if they give you credit like they did to me. Be nice of course. Good luck

No issues over here. I can tell you, I don't need 42mbps, and I'm 100% satisfied with my speeds after Sprint's garbage. Getting 7.72mbps now, and I've had them for 20 days and already used 10gb. When
I forced my device to run 3g and Edge, it was frightening, similar to what I would get with Sprint, but I've never had issues with 4G or staying on 4G in my area.

You guys aren't alone, but I think this is a tower issue not a phone issue. Possibly a new modem might fix this.
Why do I say that?
Well at home, by San Francisco, I get 15-23 Mbps download speeds, and now I'm in Las Vegas for business, and am only getting 100-500 Kbps.
I called and let them know of the issue, and they were going to do a field ticket where they actually take out the phone and test it on that tower to see what is going on.
I think anyone else having this issue should do the same. My guess is it has something to do with the refarming of the 1900 Mhz band.

Agreed. Like I said earlier just call them. They will take care of the issue. Takes a little bit but they get it done. And when speaking to tech support be detailed of where the issues are. Street names and such.

If the tower is too close the signal goes over you. They broadcast high so if you're within a few hundred feet you won't connect. I have this issue at my mom's house. Theres an lte tower on the back of the block and I have to walk across the street to connect to it.

100% correct the closer you get to the tower itself the less signal you will get. I have figures that a minimal distance of 2 city blocks to get strong signal from closest tower.

Makes real good sense. I have so many other towers in my area though shouldn't it atlease connect to one of those instead of a tower in the city above me. I'm guessing that's what that green line going to the tower means in my picture... Also for the people that asked. If it's anything like the 3g and voice upgrades we got over here it will be... went from 2 bars to full signal and from lucky to pull .30 mbps to consistently getting 1.50 or more (and this is during peak usage times, in the middle of the night I pull just over 2 mbps, enough to tether the ps3 for black ops 2 with no lag whatsoever!)
