OK so I lost my phone 4 days ago and I did not know where I lost it. I called sprint and they sent me a replacement and paid the deductible. Today i was getting on the bus and the bus driver handed me my phone. I must have dropped it in the bus and someone turned it in to her. My picture with my gf was my lock screen picture so she knew it was mine. My question is what do I do with my replacement phone? No refund on deductible

The other phone (Lost one) has a locked SOC code on it.. So can't be activated again. (Shouldn't be able to) I'd call sprint and talk to them.

Try swapping the esn on sprint.com to see if it will activate. I was in the same situation and sprint.com reactivated my old phone so i sold the replacement.

I was talking with a tech yesterday about a similar thing.. if they have a Lost SOC code.. they won't work.. Go to http://checkesnfree.com/ Check the ESN on it.. It'll tell ya if it's clean or not.
Sprint doesn't do replacements, your insurance does. (Insuarian or something like that)
Your insurance does not talk to Sprint.
It most likely has a fine ESN still.

If the old phone reactivates on sprint.com they didnt blacklist the esn or forgot too, so your free to do what ever you want with the replacement.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
IF it's fine.. Sell the bad boy on Craigslist, ebay your choice.. if the ESN is bad, Can still sell and can be connected on prepaid service such as Boost.
The esn is locked and recorded lost or stolen until the owner calls sprint and says they have received it back and then it will work out

so my phone i bought off craigslist is blacklisted. what do i doo? can i delete the efs folder and it will work? or like unlock it and it will work on att? what do i do!?
You may be stuck. Did you get any type of proof of purchase off the person. Anyway to prove you bought it from a legitimate owner?

Without being able to prove you bought the phone in a legit deal probably nothing. Craigslist is full of this. I also got my phone from craigslist but had the guy meet me at a t mobile store and got a t mobile rep to verify the transaction.

There is one of three reasons you're blacklisted.
The phone was reported lost/stolen to Asurion and a claim was made.
The phone is a T-Mobile demo device that was stolen.
It was purchased on a Value plan and the customer defaulted on the bill.
You can try tinkering with the efs but no idea what trouble that will get you in or if that works on the GS2. If you can find the craigslist ad or money order receipt they may reverse it but it might have to go to risk assessment and take awhile.

I was wondering if they considered a difference between lost and stolen. But again, i was told they blacklist for reasons that directly affect them - fraud, theft from a store, or not making payments.

I thought asurion required that you file a police report if you told them someone stole it before they filed your claim? If you say its lost and found it later they may not blacklist it assuming that most people will . I have heard that at times asurion will allow you to keep your found phone if you claim lost then found it later. Not 100% sure on that.

yeah I don't think tmobile or asurion will blacklist a phone if it was lost because if found, it can still be used. However, if someone purposely stole a phone from a store/person, then it would be blacklisted. Not 100% sure but sounds about right.
well the phone is brand new condition. no scratches nothing. you think ill be able to sell it for only $200?

I lost my epic touch and got a replacement after my 100 deductible I have since found my old phone... Will I have issues if I try to sell? A bad esn?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Yes the insurance company locks the ESN before they process your new phone I believe.
A bad ESN phone can sell for parts for 100 bux maybe a little more so you should be able to get your insurance deductible back selling it.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
I believe that part of the insurance agreement for a lost phone is that if you find it, you need to send it in to asurion,
So.... send it in to asurion.
I believe if you call sprint or maybe assuron you can tell them that you found it and they'll reinstate the esn. I wouldn't make a habit of it but I've seen folks do it before.

Back in the day I lost my treo pro and filed a claim. Found it a few weeks later and called sprint and the cleared the esn. That was a couple years ago though so I don't know if the policy has changed or if I just got lucky at the time.

Sprint and asurion must be having a bad day. sprint store manager told me to report phone as lost since they didnt have another gs3 in stock.
stupid me bricked it flashing all nilly willy.
with the help-of a fellow xda member unbricked called to cancel asurion claim, they said its too late we are sending you another phone.
so im paying $150.00 for another gs3
and this one is still activated seems silly ,they cant even change the claim to found or whatever and since it was reported lost i actually cant return it , The system wont allow me too.
so ill have 2 sgs3 hmm this is stupid something tells me these phones dont cost as much as claimed.
Make a big enough stink about it and they'll take it back I'm sure.

ESN will be marked bad since it is reported stolen.
You'll likely get a new one since the phone is so new.
Under the new insurance I think you can only replace your phone 2x per year (or I think 3x per 2 years).
You could donate/sell it to a dev.
reported lost

That's why it says $150 Non-Refundable deductible. Doesn't matter what the reason.
This is just as a warning to anyone looking to try out Samsung. They do not stand by their warranty or product. My s3 stopped charging or transferring files. I sent it in. It was about six months after purchase. They sent the phone back unrepaired claiming the phone was beyond economical repair. I called in saying they should either send me a refurbished phone or repair mine as stated in the warranty. They said that a piece of my motherboard was damaged and it couldn't be repaired. So I requested a refurbed phone as my s3 should be covered by warranty. At first they tried claiming my warranty isn't covered because of water damage but I proved neither water damage indicator went off. Then they tried to say my phone was out of warranty. Even though I had a proof of purchase of October 2012. Finally they resorted to simply saying I must have opened the phone and broke it myself. Samsung did everything they could to skirt around their warranty obligations. And in the end left me with a six month old broken product that I paid $500+ dollars for and is now practically useless.

I've had them have to replace the entire board, certainly that's more expensive than an charging port

They wanted me to take it into sprint to see about getting a replacement. The thing is the phone was just bought outright for the unsubsidized price and flashed so I never even had an account with sprint so sprint wasn't able to do anything, nor should they have, as it was a Samsung warranty not sprint

And that's what sprint should do. Samsung ia complaint is probably based on the fact you did something you not suppose to do with a phone now. Even though it shouldn't have anything to do with your problem.
The thing is if they mess with your phone and then you get it back and have a software issue immediately. Normally you could say samsung messed it up, probably true too. But since you have messed with your software, samsung doesn't want to be liable if something like that happens.
Basically YOU voided the warranty when you flashed a sprint phone to another carrier.

My understanding is you pay your deductible after submitting an "affidavit" about what happened, and they ship you a replacement phone the next day, so it's not a one for one swap, so your little brother can use it as an expensive mp3 player. . Just curious, did you try putting the phone in a bag of rice for a few days before giving it up for good? Might save you 100 bucks. Just sayin' Good luck!

No problem. It's even noted on the site when filing a claim. I go through phones like crazy and I read everything. It goes something along the lines like any found devices claimed through Asurion are the property of Asurion and must be returned yada yada.. Something like that, it's been a while I lost or had a phone stolen lol
Ps: I had two claims this year. I would gladly screencap the email they sent me thanking me for returning my liquor damaged EVO LTE that was completely fried. So if they would take a liquor damaged one with a fried motherboard why not a water damaged one which still powers on?

A big part of me thinks Asurion is complete rip off. I used them once and paid the $100 deductible which pi$$ed me off because I had been paying them $9 a month over the past 4 years- enough to cover the cost of a new premium smartphone and the $100 deductible. And once I got my replacement phone (refurbished, not new) the first month or so were covered by the Sprint warranty yet, I still got charged me $9 for the "Asurion".
They want you to believe the replacement phone they are sending you cost them the same retail price you'd have bought it for from Samsung but that's bull****. I am sure they get them for buy them from sprint for whatever sprint pays for recycled phones., probably $50 then they mark it up 100% and viola $100 deductible. And if you tell Asurion you want a new phone instead of a refurbished phone they'll lie to you and tell you Samsung doesn't make the D710 anymore. But one visit to the Samsung website suggests otherwise.
In short I wouldn't think twice about getting over on Asurion.
And no it's NOT Insurance fraud. Insurance fraud is a crime when committed against a real insurance company which is regulated by the state.
Ask these people if they think you should stick it to Asurion.
Take the phone apart and hit the board lightly with rubbing alcohol and a soft tooth brush.
Before you do tho take a few pics of the board and post them and ill let ya know the extent of the damage
