Hello,
i have a new htc WILDFIRE S phone and I use CM9 on it..the problem is that recently...i was trying to recalibrate the battery...and my phone had 3% left and i was checking the brightness...when i suddenly by mistake slided the brightness slider to max...the brightness turned to max allrite..but then the phone got shutdown...it didnt start..i plug out the battery and plugged it back in...and it started ok..everything works fine..but the screen is set to be at very low brightness..to be more precise...well it looks like its stuck on DIM mode..you know...the brighntess level that your phone goes before screen time out?
I tried to changed the brightness setting now...and it doesnt work...the brightness slider goes as much as i want..but it doesnt affect the brightness....can anyone help please.......??? I tried wipping it all as well and installing a fresh ROM..still it doesnt work..i cleaned..factory reset/dalvic cache and everything before installling the rom again..
p.s: it looks like to me that because of very battery low..and very high brightness setting hte phone suddenly got in some kind of safe mode..with lowest brightness setting....and now its not getting out of it...i dont knw if its true or wat juz my idea...really need response quick..thanks..
Update: I wipped everything...and tried to do a nandroid restore of the stock rom..still the same prob...... i feel so screwed right now and no one is replying here either..?????????? also i can see a lil bit of flickering..not too prominent..but when i observe close i can see..

I guess you broke your screen. If you flashed the ROM and didn't get to high brightness in any way, most definitely the screen is broken.
Also when we boot our phone, (when the htc screen comes), the brightness is at highest at that animation, can you see the phone on normal brightness then or still it's dimmed?

no...the screen is dim on startup HTC logo as well... u sure its a hardware problem..? i mean it didnt get wet or anything..all that happened is...the battery was low as 3% i was adjusting the brightness...the phone went off and i had to plug battery out and insert back in..till then its dimmed..i thought some kind of power saver settings took place(fingers crossed..)but i guess i am wrong? any buddy got any idea?

me thought the same..... it should be a hardware issue... in addittion no one ever reported like this... so mostly hardware....
Im 100% sure its hardware issue now. The rom settings only take into effect after the boot animation of rom. Before that its all the bootloader and all. The brightness should be high when on htc screen.
Get the phone checked at service center.

ok thanks for the info bro...i juz have some question..is it the screen itself that is the problem? or its the LEDs at the back of screen that is not working? I mean i was searching around forum...and there were posts that suggested that the LEDs back of the screen has it all to do with the brightness of the screen...and as the screen works 100% perfect with 100% responsiveness...is it possible that it is those LEDs? im juz asking because i think changing those LEDs may not cost as much as changing the whole screen? Ofcourse, i will take it to a repair center but juz curious..any idea bro?
Thanks.
Im no expert on this matter but i guess what you are saying may be right. My old phone, which was a nokia worked the same way. I broke the led's which caused the screen to dim out. It was a simple phone without touch so idk how much they both resemble but you can ask any expert if you know of.

Hi all,
I just received my desire back from repair, cause it constant reboot. And now i have it back and ive got a 'button bug'. The buttons will respond when the lights are off and yes it will hapen too when the charger is out. This is verry annoying and i'd like to know wether this is a ROM bug (tmobile rom) or a hardware bug.
The lights are turning off randomly in a position, well you probably dont understand my problem but i made a video for you so you can see your self and understand!
Please I dont want to return it to the repair service again!!
Link to the video i made:

Greetings,
Nick
Looks like they turn on based on light conditions. Have you tried doing the same in a completely dark room (they shouldn't turn off or maybe after 10 sec of inactivity) and in very bright conditions (they should turn on). Don't think it's hardware related, no idea if it's Sense or T-mobiel but there are ways to turn the lights off.
well, im did completely locked my room to darkness ghehe and looks like they stay on. i will try more to see
W00t looks like youre right, when i close my curtain it will go and light. when i do it open, the lights are going to turn off.. but i never had this before?
Maybe cause i got a new motherboard because i just receveided it back from repair?
Lol i just tried it in the bathroom with the light on and off and youre right ghost
but is there a way to turn this off?
Well i already scared m because i thought it was a hardware bug lol.
but now i know it isnt
Unrooted maybe by disabling auto brightens.
Rooted, see if this works or rom's like cyanogenmod or oxygen can do it in settings. Maybe some Sense rom's aswell.
i already disabled auto brightness
but nvm now.
i thought my desire was broken again so i was scared but now it doesnt bother me anymore
Thanks again!
as title says. last night I was simply watching a movie when i noticed the handset was very very hot, which is weird as it wasn't doing anything too stressing, i figured id let it cooldown abit, not two seconds after the video stopped, the audio went all messed up. I turned it off manually, and it restarted all normally. it happened again, although it wasn't particularly hot, however this time I did not manually restart it, I figured id wait to see if it sorts itself out. Instead it turned off. And it refuses to power on, charge or even go into boot. No idea, what's wrong.

Got that twice with ma HOX...trust me...just plug on wall charger and leave it for a while (30mins or so) and when LED starts to flash, try to boot your device again.
i will try
This is weird but yeah I left in charge for about 12± hours, started flashing about a few mins ago and it's working perfectly. Pretty sure my phone is possessed. So yeah leave it in charge until it flashes.
Btw I'm not doing much, and it's already getting a bit warm, anything I can do to make my phone handle more? Is there a way to under clock this?

HELP
No idea then, motherboard may be dead if that's how unresponsive it is. If you have warranty send it off for repairs. Can you get into recovery? How about plugging it into a laptop/computer?

Has anyone tried this?
I had the same problem, no warranty because I unlocked it. Got it back, and found this topic.
Note: It can happen you need to try different pc/notebooks before it charges. I had to switch to 3 different pc s.

I tried flashing different ROMs .. wiped everything .. but still .. this problem persists ..
My phone sometimes switches off automatically without any notification or anything and it won't turn on until I connect it to a usb or my charger .. it won't be a low battery problem as ;
1 : if battery is low .. it won't show wrong battery stats even if I flash a new ROM ..
2 : It will show a shutting down notification when all the juice is flushed out of the battery ..
It happens anyhow and anytime .. I can't judge it by any application bug or anything of that sort...
I experienced it on using whatsapp, facebook, xda, browsers .. so basically it has nothing to so with the applications I use ..
The only possibility would be that my battery itself has its last breaths on count... Isn't it? Or do you have any other theory? .. please help me out folks.. I am worried!
Problem : Phone shuts down like the way the screen turns off while we lock it, anytime anywhere..
And please don't say that it would be happening because of the underclocking .. phone may go to deep sleep .. but it won't shut down in such cases ..
The moment I connect a charging cord .. the phone shows the HTC quietly brilliant sign and starts up .. so basically I can't carry my charger or a usb cord everywhere ..:banghead:

Hello people I am desperate with my HOX.
After spending one month in service my HOX returned to me with new board and new battery last Friday of September.
One week later I already had 2 problems.
At first battery didnt last longer than 5 hours.
After a few full charges over the days this was fixed as the phone lasted at least 14 to 15 hours which is fine by me.
Today I turned it on in the morning and everything was fine.
Due to excessive work load I did even touched my phone for the next 8 hours.
After finishing work I tried to check if I had any calls or anything but to my surprise the HOX was off !!!!!!!!!!
I tried turning it off but it was dead.
I performed a full charge and this time the phone made the sound of the turning on but only the menu buttons turned on but the screen remained black.
Is there something I can do about this?
Your help will be very much appreciated.
sounds like your board has screwed up again, mine was same issue

Well it shouldnt be the board because the phone is working behind the screen. I reboot holding the power button down and the phone vibrates and makes the htc sound turning on.The screen came up once or twice but it was unresponsive. The clock and weather was right on but the phone also showed that it was on airplane mod.Pushing all around I even heard the navigation welcoming me.
Its really bizzare.I cant understand what is causing this and I suspect it should be pretty simple.....

Tried every trick and gimmick I read about from a dozen forums but nothing worked. All of the sudden at some point the screen appeared and it even let me unlock but trying to bring up the htc clock and apps got stuck in the middle of the screen and hitting the power button dissapered and went to black again.Off to service it goes on Monday for the 3rd time since May and the 2nd for the last month.I hope they will accept to replace it this time......

Hey mates,
My HOX went down in terms of charging yesterday and I charged it for a while(It didn't easily get charged at first)
After working for a couple of hours, my screen goes off, and doesn't come back.
The Capacitive Buttons are working, and random apps can be opened by touching on the screen randomly(like torch apps)
Is is a software problem or a hardware one?
Is it something related to the voltage that handles the Screen?
Any help would be grateful!
