Hi, I've had my galaxy note 2 for about a month now and I absolutely love it. I love the fact where I can pull out the S-Pen and take a note. The problem I'm facing is that on the left side of the screen towords the bottom it seems to be off when I write. Wherever I write in that section it seems to write it to the right of where my pen is touching the screen. Take a look at the attached picture.
Now I've google searched if there is a method to calibrate the S Pen. But the only thing I seem to find is a method that works with the original Galaxy Note 1. And I have also come across an app called TouchscreenTune that helps you calibrate the S-Pen. But as far as I know this app calibrates the S Pen for the entire screen. For example if I calibrate the S Pen with this application and make it so it writes to the left instead of how it's off by going to the right it will do that for the entire screen. I'm only having this issue at that 1 section of the screen. Can anybody help me out please?

Same issue
I don't have any solutions, but I can confirm that I'm having the same issue. It happens in a few places, but all of them are towards the edge fo the screen. I noticed it trying to make a line with a straight edge in sketchbook mobile, which this makes it impossible to do. Similarly, I've searched and can't find any suggestions on calibration. I'll take it to a sprint store in a few days.
I will be interested in hearing what they say. Im having the same problem.

Thanks for the comment. Just to make sure, when you write a bunch in that bottom left area, there's no interuptions in the inking or it's hard to write because the cursor doesn't stay centered?
I'm trying to figure out if this is something all of them have that's just too minor for most people to notice or there's just a few bad apples. I'll be at verizon tomorrow testing out some other note 2s and see if I see a pattern. If not, I'll just return.

Glad yours works. That code doesn't work for me. I'm on a verizon phone which means they probably jacked that up too along with everything else.
Interesting development today.
Exchanged my phone to verizon. Was really excited the new one was working so well. Went home and it started to do it again. Got real up set and then light bulb popped up. There's a magnet on the back of my seidio kickstand case. Took the case off and now it works fine. Which means the other one probably worked fine as well. Annoyed that I spent $50 on this stupid case.
Those with issues should check this post:

Don't thank me, thank the dev if it works for you

Yeah, you should never use any kind of case with magnets with a phone with a Wacom digitizer.
It's really a shame, otherwise I would've bought the KLD Ultra Slim PU Leather Flip Cover Case already.
Hi, sorry for the late response. But i went to Best Buy and tried another S-Pen and with the S-Pen it does the same thing. It weird, When i right the actual ink is not under where my pen is, its more to the right of it. Even if i hover the S-Pen over the screen the little circle thing is also off to the right abit. I tried to use that TouchScreen Tune app, but when i apply the changes in it, it says Failed< Unsupported ROM or FW. I use the S-Pen alot, and it sucks because of this inconvenience.
Oh and i can confirm that the App posted in that Link "Reset S-Pen" Does NOT work to fix this issue. I wish it was just the S-Pen that was defective. I have no problem going to Best Buy and buying a new one for $40.
My s pen accuracy improved when I did what another forum suggested. Go into pen settings, and switch it to left handed, and then back to right handed. That resets the calibration.

Hi, I tried multiple times to do that but each time it results the same. It makes no difference. Maybe I just got a bad Wacom digitizer.

Hi, i am using the original Samsung Flip Cover Case. It has no magnets. And i dont think this should be happening. I would expect this kind of defects from a cheap $100-$300 phone. Not from the best smartphone in the world that retails for over $700!

You can't use a stylus with that fine of a tip with the gnex. Because of the type of touch screen it uses, you need a surface roughly the size of a fingertip. I think the closest you will find size-wise is the pogo.

I dont think he wants a pen to double as a stylus. The way I understood the description was that the pen has three settings (like those multi colour pens where you can click for different colours) where one is a stylus and another is the pen and then a led light.
Or I could be completely wrong.
Either way, I havent heard of anything like that before.

EDIT: Mostly wanted to get my wife one for playing Draw Something on her Kindle Fire, but they may help playing it on the phone, too.

Hey guys,
In excitement to receive the new S III on Verizon, I have set to search for cases, screen covers, etc. However, I happened to come across the Samsung S III C Pen in another post and was wondering what your thought were on it. Has anyone try it yet?

While I can't speak to the C Pen itself, my understanding is that it is just a capacitive stylus, unlike the S Pen for the note. That being the case, you will probably end up with a similar experience to other capacitive screen styli. Their quality can vary greatly but they are all just trying to replace your finger.

I don't think this is true. I saw a video (can't remember where now) that showed this C Pen in use and although it wasn't like the Note's S Pen, it wasn't like a normal stylus either. It is supposed to only work on the GS3 from what I understand and the person in the video used it on an iPhone to prove it. I ordered one yesterday. I will update this post once I get it and let you all know what I think of it.
I also have the Galaxy Note phone so I will be able to compare the 2.
i have watched one video, the only thing interested me...was that the stylus works only on S3, but no respond on iPhone.
Just wonder if it was true or not. and whats the point for that....:good::good:
I bought one last week and ended up sending it back. It looks and feels fantastic, but it didn't work that great with my screen protector installed (Zagg InvisibleShield) The surface was too "tacky" for any real precise usage. I mainly bought it for Draw Something and stuff like that. Now if you don't have a screen protector it should work perfect. Also I was under the impression that you could use it on tablets as well, going off the Amazon description that says: "Replacement for using fingers on your tablet or smartphone touchscreen" Sadly that isn't the case. I tried it on my Acer Iconia a500 tablet and my wife's Galaxy Nexus and it didn't do a thing. That's mainly my fault though for not doing research on it before hand and just going off of the Amazon description. So all that being said, if you don't have a screen protector installed or have something other than a Zagg InvisibleSHIELD, you shouldn't have an issue with it.

If it is the same as the Zagg where the screen protector is tacky, then it will probably have the same results. It would probably work better if there isn't a screen protector on there or a crystal clear one. I have a regular capacitive stylus and using it on my Transformer, you can feel a little resistance with a "tacky" protector.

The SGSIII uses a capacitive stylus. I tried my GNote stylus on the SGSIII and it does not work. The GNote can take a WACOM (Stock) stylus and a capacitive stylus and work I believe.
I do like using S Memo from my GNote to jot notes so I ordered the OEM Stylus for my SGSIII as well.

And for the OP. Your first mistake was putting a Zagg shield on your phone. I used to use them on all my phones pretty much when they were the only option but Zagg shields suck. They're tacky like you said and they discolor, turn an ugly brownish color and the corners eventually peel (quicker than most other screen protectors I've used). There are plenty of better options out there now. I, personally, choose to keep my phones naked now. :cyclops:

any update? how do you like it?
I got the C pen today. If you are thinking it will be close in operation to a WACOM pen or the Galaxy Note, it is not. Not even close.
The C pen is well made but the rubber tip skips along and is not smooth. I have not quite figured out the best angle for writing (I am left handed). The C pen does work for flipping screens and apps etc.
I will keep it and play with it some more, but it is really more of show off feature that is not nearly as useful as it is on the GNote. I wanted to try it because I do actually take and keep notes on my GNote. I will update if I discover anything new.
The S pen is absolutely not worth it. It doesn't work on any other devices besides the SGSIII
And it really doesn't work any better that other styli on the SGSIII. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks beautiful.
Hello everyone!
I just received my Samsung S Pen Holder Kit. It arrived with a stylus that looks to be made for the Galaxy note S3.
The seller on ebay stated that it is fine to use on GN 10.1. It has, or what looks to be a nylon tip and the instructions state that it is non-replaceable.
It works and responds great and the Stylus button responds as well.
My question is, will this tip cause problems on the screen in terms of scratching, gouging, etc?
Thanks.
Mine has the same tip as yours and has not caused any problems so far for me, but I just got mine too .

Ok, i have another 7 days to return the GN back to BB if there is an issue. It writes and feels real good...
The barrel pen feels real good so far, what say you?
I say the same. It feels and writes like a real pen. Glides nice and smooth on the screen. I have used it quite a bit tonight without issue, no scratches, gouges, or marks so far. The pen is weighted just right and the right size for me. Now if only i can just get used to the button and quit taking screen shots while I write.

Ditto, ditto and ditto... too funny on the screen shots... welcome to the club on that one!
I was concerned over the differences on the tips.
I recapped 3 meetings notes tonight and cant see any degradation in terms of screen scratches.
The biggest problem is my wife see's the s-pen and picks it up and starts to use it... not good!
I was just wondering this. That pen was actually made for the Note 5.3". The reason why I'm doubting this is because Sammy did change the tip on the 10.1 pen...its a softer tip. Maybe they changed it because it does scratch? 5.3" users did report some scratching. I think im gonna stop using it and get the real 10.1 S pen holder.
Basically I dont trust it, eventhouhg it looks nice.

you do know that the note 10.1 stylus (that was included with your tablet) has white nylon nibs as well, right? They came in a little baggie. The nib alone shouldn't scratch it as it's hardness is much lower. get a piece of grit stuck between the nib and screen though and all bets are off.

that's odd. Mine came with five (5) black with white center ones and two (2) completely white ones.
Just checked mine and it indeed came with the Nylon hard tips so scratching shoulnt be an issue. So question now is: Is the old pen to do 1024 levels of pressure? Or is this done on the screen itself?

I find the spring loaded ones work best for me with the input setting set to very sensitive With the spring. It really feels very much like a graphics style pencil with very soft lead..
Anyway my questions . have anyone tried the intuios Nibs or if there might be different ones available
guys please they are called NIBS.. Not tips . giggles..

the intuos/cintiq nibs do not fit the the stock s-pen that comes wit the device. The diameter is too large.

My S-Pen hovers slightly off the center of the point. when writing, its offset by different values based on where it is on the screen, very reminicent to a wacom digitizer in a convertible thats not calibrated. I've searched and searched, and apparently there isn't a real calibration utility for the note 2. Does anyone else have this issue, and is there a fix, even if it requires manually tweaking calibration coordinates in a conf file like the early linux wacom days? The pen isn't unusable for writing, but its all but useless for some design work. If anyone has an interim solution other than trying to swap the unit out, Im all ears.
Thanks,
I don't know to what degree you are talking about, but I know that the "which hand is dominant" option under s pen settings off sets it by a tiny bit. try switching this, maybe you'll see it switch sides, maybe it will fix your problem (although the amount by which it moves would make me think you have eagle vision if you were able to get bothered by it)

There is a thread regarding a fix for this. I havent had to do it personally, but it involves taking off the s-pen button cover and adjusting small screws for sensitivity and "alignment"
I will try and search it and post it.

YES, I'M HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. When I opened up the S-Note app for the first time to practice on elegant penmanship on this device (Galaxy Note 2) I started to write EVERYWHERE on the screen, in small font and without zooming in on the screen. I noticed that at the lower-right-hand-corner of the screen there is a problem. Where the stylus nib touches on the screen is NOT where I see the digital ink produced on my screen. The digital ink is 'considerably' off to the right. Even better, if you open up the S-Note and launch the MEMO app - the one with the SQUARE grids, this is an even better way to test this out, as you can ATTEMPT to trace over those vertical and horizontal lines as perfectly as you can. I can guarantee to reproduce this by attempting to trace over the lines on the lower right-hand-corner of my screen and where my stylus nib touches is NOT where the digital ink is produced. So how did I discover this? I discovered this by writing normally as I normally would - naturally - on the screen and when I got to the lower right-hand corner my letters came out extremely sloppy and way off aligned.
I called my cellular carrier's tier 2 tech support and I had them on the phone as I tried to walk him through the process on a Note 2 he had there. He said what he saw was so menial or "minoot" that he could barely notice it by a millimeter. I challenged that I wasn't trying to debate how "acceptable" this may seem to some people. I challenged that it's an identifiable technical and physical glitch none-the-less, regardless how noticeable to some or not. I THEN went into a U.S. Cellular store, looked at TWO other Note 2's, tried MY stylus on THEIR demo phones, tried THEIR stylus on THEIR demo phones, tried THEIR stylus on MY personal phone and ALL THE RESULTS WERE IDENTICAL as my initial complaint......ON THREE DIFFERENT HANDSETS WITH TWO DIFFERENT STYLUSES!
So what gives, man???
As for the previous post about taking off the S-Pen button cover and making adjustment, I think you were talking about this here:
h*t*t*p*-colon-fowardslash-fowardslash-smartphones.wonderhowto.com/how-to/adjust-your-samsung-galaxy-notes-s-pen-sensitivity-for-better-touch-response-0140084/[/url]
Anyway, so guess what I'm gonna do today? Visit random stores from T-Mobile, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, ANYONE and ANYWHERE where there is a Note 2 and do some massive comparisons. I regret that I'm alone in this effort today and that I don't have another person to video record my findings and interviews with store agents on my illustrations so I can blast it on YouTube.
I live in Chicago...who's down with me, man?
Wish you all the best. It's a MASSIVELY impressive phone, just wish that calibration/alignment issue wasn't an issue. The tech support guy tried to pass it off on me as saying that "99% of people wouldn't notice it" and that it certainly had to have passed quality inspection from Samsung. Then I challenged that "99%" would suggest then that even the quality testers over at Samsung were also guilty of "not noticing", which doesn't say that it was non-existent. Who actually writes way, way, way down in the lower right-hand corner to notice this anyway?
THIS GUY RIGHT HERE!! FOR $800, I WAN'T A DANG PEEEEERRRRRFFFEEECT FREAKIN' PHONE! IN ALL FOUR CORNERS OF MY DEVICE!! I'M ENTITLED!
I wanna bust out my Gracie Jiu-Jitsu on someone, man. lol
I just noticed this today when I seen this thread but it doesn't really bother anything.. I've been writing and drawing with it alot and had no issues

Although this may not relate entirely with your issue, try adjusting the s pen sensitivity and maybe it will help, it worked great for mine...

A lot of folks are suggesting that. I may try it.

Dear all,
I'm using s-pen and n5100 for around 3 months and then buy samsung case (magnetic flip cover, pink) for just 10 day ago.
I noticed that when I'm using s-note, I can't use my s-pen to select pointer option anymore (used to be normal) but my finger do it just fine.
Then I googling around for "s-pen problem" and found that there is an issue with all sort of magnetic, but it will back to normal when put the magnet away.
But in my case, it's not. the top part of the screen can't be use by s-pen amymore :crying::crying:
Is there a way to recover this? I'm on a German stock rom post by geek78.
Thanks
Here the image from Sketchbook for testing s-pen

** update **
got mine back after 16 days!!
they said the mainboard were replaced to solve this issue.
there is plenty of discussion about this all over the internet..search and you will learn...
Take your tablet out of the case and turn it off for awhile. Turn it back on and see if you still have a problem. If not, don't use cases with magnets anymore. If you do still have a problem call Samsung and have then fix it under warranty. Then stop using cases with magnets!

Thanks everyone.
I throw my case away for 3 days and it didn't back to normal state (that what I learn from googling so far, just put it out of the case and it'll be fine)
I'm now backing up and flashed the stock back in already, will go to samsung today.
I'll be update the situation when I met up with samsung official, and will post the tested pictures when I can.
maybe 10 days long apart from my beloved note :crying:

This is very disturbing. Just a couple of days ago, I decided I couldn't handle the inconvenience of the Stand Pouch anymore and took the plunge on an official Samsung Book Cover. I absolutely love it. My Note 8.0 now feels complete.
I was very anti magnetic covers, but as a few people have posted reviews on the book cover, and it's been some time with no complaints (till now)... I thought I was just being overly paranoid.
I've tested the spen digitizer thoroughly in sketchbook every day since getting this cover, and haven't noticed any problems yet.
Please let us know what Samsung have to say. Did you mention the book cover to them?
Also, I just assume it's the Official Book Cover for Galaxy Note 8.0 that you're using right?

Using 3 different cover, 2 with magnets.
No Problems.

Posted this thread on the subject a month or so ago. alot of discussion with in it that may be of use for you. I used a case with magnets for a few weeks but decided to change as I felt it started to effect the side of the screen ever so slightly on the edge where the magnets that held the cover shut were located.
Now i use the Poetic revolution discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311243
I think its a brilliant case.

Is the effect still noticeable (I.e. permanent)? Or has it returned to normal now that you use the Poetic revolution?

Just tried scribbling in all the edges and corners in a new blank drawing file. Didn't notice any issues or lack of response. So I think it's fine. I only used the other case for a few weeks as it was only £5 and a stop gap while what I would use long term. The issue I started to notice a little was only at the extreme edge where the magnets that held the cover closed were located

As this is patient 0, I'm still holding out that the digitizer failure and Samsung case are unrelated. Circumstantial evidence...

Yes, my case is official Samsung case (a pink one with a white note)
Yesterday I met with Samsung rep.
After they testing with thier utility (dial *#0*#) and choose Wacom test. It shown that the top of my screen has some damage so they have to replace some part and I need to wait
I also have a senior in my office have note 8.0 with the same Samsung case (Brown note with black case), which is still fully functional. If his note last more that a month with Samsung case, maybe it's just my note that have a defected part.
Will update again when I got mine back (hopefully monday!)

To clarify my experience. I was using a very cheap case, not the official samsung one. I'm sure the samsung magnets are weaker and sheilded to minimise abverse effects. This is an assumption on my part though having not used one.
dear hertsjoatmon,
After glide to your link (another topic there) I think that the Wacom's layer is damaged (that's why only s-pen is unwritable), I'll look at part no. in the receipt and will update here.

Go search through the note 2 forums. All that the note 8.0 is, is a big note 2 with no radios 5110 at least. But believeth what you might choose, magnets plus electronics equals fail watson.

A-ha! That must be the reason why HDDs in my PC fail every few+ years - thank you Sherlock.
But seriously - custom cases are another story - but I cannot imagine nobody in Samsung would remember to check what is the long-term impact of their own case magnets on screen digitizer. At least for two reasons:
2. warranty replacements generate losses
1. they are not idiots
Its possible that it was just a defect in the tablet. I have seen plenty of videos of the nexus 7 touch screen becoming non responsive.
I read one guy went through 5 on warranty until finally figuring out it's the book cases magnets that was the issue.
I sure won't be risking magnets.
Picked up a Noreve leather snap case. There are lots of options out there.
