these are the things that i read in many threads but have no knowledge about these thing.
please help me in good manners.
Hopeful for getting good responce..
Thanks....!!

If you want to root your phone, you need to make your kernel insecure. There are many ways to do so, Google it. Then you need to root it, the same procedure.
After that, download clockwork mod and install it's bootloader (from inside the app)
Then go online, download leedroid rom and install it after placing in your phone's root with bootloader. (volume down + power) when off.
Then after installation restart phone in bootloader and do something called ext3 in bootloader menu. That will allow you to install all apps in sd card, fooling the phone to think that apps are installed in phone memory. It's necessary due to little space desire has.

Ps
Leedroid has sense, and is fast. Other Roms have no sense or are pretty slow or have issues with some things . I know, I tried most of them

When ur s-off & rooted u need a recovery so that u can install custom roms, perform a full wipe, system, data, cache etc etc. Like posted above, u will need to make an ext3/ext4 partition on ur sdcard for a app2sd script, whatever rom u choose, the OP will state install requirments. 4ext recovery is recommended over clockworkmod because it can partition ur sdcard perfect and has way more features and is just better in every way.

Just wondering what Unrevoked is?? :)

Hey,
All im wondering is what http://unrevoked.com/ is?? i know it says easy root but what exactly does it do??
Thanks
it flashes the clockworkmod recovery into your phone and that way you don't need a pc or the shortcuts we were using so far to enter a recovery that enables us to flash new roms etc...and i think this way you can backup your ext partition on sdcard (haven't tried it yet)
Isn't it for the Evo and Sprint Hero only anyway?
Regards,
Dave
No if you head over to the www.unrevoked.com/recovery it says its also for the desire ... Has anyone tried this on the desire??

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709146
apparently lots of people have
Basically, once you root your handset and you want to try out a new rom you used to have to connect your phone to a pc and push the recovery files to be able to do anything.
Then cloclworkmod recovery was written that allowed the recovery files to be stored and started from the SD card, therefore removing the dependancy on a pc to push the files.
Now this new one, unrevoked, flashes the recovery files directly to the recovery section on your phone. No need for a PC and no dependancy on the files being on the SD card. So now, once you flash this, you simply reboot your phone with the volume button held down. Wait a few seconds then scroll ro 'recovery' with the volume button, then press the power button. This takes you directly to recovery menu that allows you to backup your current rom, flash new roms, wipe your cache etc.
So it doesnt root my phone for me??

Lol I was the same, and I did brick my first one. The infamous usb brick. BUT, and it's a big but... That is no longer a problem with the new methods. Even if you did somehow manage to brick it, it can be fixed!
If you read the guides and follow them you will have a nicely rooted phone and any number of custom roms at your disposal. I don't think I could live with a stock desire now
whats the best guide to use?? and whats the difference between stock and rooted rom??
Thanks
The guide on modaco is probably the most recent one to use. it's called risk free root or something.
The difference between stock and rooted is quite big. Stock is just that, what HTC decides to give you. Once you root you can put on any desire rom available in the dev section here. They include experimental roms for froyo, loads of 2.1 roms. 2.1 is what you are on now. The 2.1 roms are tweaked to give better battery life, nicer looks, more features etc. Also on a rooted rom you can use apps like titanium backup which will backup all your apps and their info. Market enabler is an app that allows you to buy apps if you are in a country not yet supported by the market. Setcpu can be used to overclock the processor. Any new updated roms that HTC release will usually be tweaked and availaible to you well before the official release.
These are only a few advantages to using a rooted rom. Have a wee look in the development forum for the desire and see what is available.

[Q] Rooting US Cellular Desire

I am looking into rooting my desire. My main thing I want to do is get rid of the the blotware and be able to use the wifi without tethering. If i get the s-off done and install a new rom will everything be ok to use? I also want suggestions on the best rom to use with no problems.
U don't need to s-off.. just root it using unrevoked 3 (I used 3.22 as the latest version didn't work)
Then partition ur SD card.. I used these instructions:
http://gingerburst.droidzone.in/?page_id=38
I use the CyanogenMod 3 rom and its very stable and lightning fast.. find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957344
Also once u have that rom installed u can install the s2e app from market which moves ur apps to SD card partition
Here's a handy tutorial guide u should check out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
PS. if I helped u please press the thank button

I thought that you needed to have the s-off in order to root?
NO its the other way round...
You need to be rooted to get S-OFF
So what is the easiest way to go? I have hboot 1.06 also.
I think from memory u mite need to go back to hboot .93 after you've rooted
Check out those links I showed u.. within them u will find other links to full instructions

i am unsure on the hboot although if you tell me the possible options i can probably remember. i think it is 0.93.0001
he is using clockworkmod recovery uh the latest version. 5.x
he has no sd card partitions other than the fat32 1.
the rom he was previously using was official GB > miui > oxygen > runnymede > failed to boot and now stuck in bootloop but cant flash back to stock.
can you even get it into fastboot? ive had this recently, i used fastboot flash and then all the required things. It was my radio that was causing the bootloop. so as soon as i flashed that it boooted fine.

Memories (even if they are right) does not help at all.
So tell your friend the following:
He should turn off his Desire, then press and hold volume down plus power button until a white screen with the androids at the bottom appears (he should see HBOOT in capital letters, blue highlighted). Now he should tell EVERYTHING what's written there and you post EXACTLY that here.
After this done, advise him to press the power button. Now he should see FASTBOOT in capital letters, red highlighted. If that's so, ask him turn off his Desire. If that's not so, let him tell you what happened instead and you post that here.
sorry late reply the hboot is the .93 one I said above.

Yes running a ruu will unroot your phone by placing you back onto the stock HTC rom with android 2.2.1 froyo. And unbranded means that the rom doesn't have carrier branding, like 02 vodaphone 3 tesco mobile ect.

Just out of curiosity, are you going back to stock for warranty reasons or because your selling the phone?
If not did you know that there are custom stock roms which allow you to keep all the benefits of root and have a stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318 Look in this thread for Sense based roms (Rempuzzle or DK custom rom being the best 2) and if you need any help flashing them post here, someone will help.

You don't need to unroot to flash a new Rom, most roms are already pre-rooted, a stock Rom would need rooting, busybox a custom kernel etc etc installing the stock roms I mentioned would already have that part done for you and can be flashed from clockwork mod recovery, just download a sense based Rom put it on your sd card then reboot into recovery by powering off the phone, then press volume down and power to get to hboot use the volume buttons to select recovery then press power, once in recovery perform a backup, then select wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache, next choose install zip from sd card and find the rom, install it then reboot into your fresh new HTC sense Rom.
Those roms are custom though so they do have a few slight differences to a fully stock Rom such as new wallpapers that kind of thing.

Use the link i posted above
- Dowload the RUU
- Connect your phone to PC and run RUU
- This will downgrade your phone OS to eclair (android 2.1)
- Let it do the bizniss and when it boots and says finished on your PC,
you will have a ****ty phone. (but dont worry) because this is what
you want
- If it doesnt work, use another RUU and run it. Just make sure it says
2.1.x.x.x in the title to make sure u go back to android 2.1. and not
1.4 or something.
You will not have CM7 after this, or any remnants of it, it will just look like basic android. It will not be branded, i.e. it will not have t-mobile splattered all over it.

Lmao I'm glad you solved your problem but can I just say how much of an asshole I think you are! Everyone who has posted in this thread have just been trying to help you achieve what you wanted to do or like myself offer an alternative which would involves less work when rerooting your device which you did say you wanted to do.
Custom sense roms do not **** up phones especially the 2 I mentioned, its muppets like yourself that don't read instructions carefully and thoroughly, before I rooted my device I made sure I had all the tools and know how to put it all back to stock beforehand. Perhaps you should do the same next time.

[Q] how increase the limited internal space for apps in HTC desire

Hi everyone,
I have got unlocked HTC desire which has very limited internal space for applications. what should i do to increase the space for apps? Can i simply get more space by rooting htc desire and installing custom ROMs? do i need anything else beside rooting for installation process of custom ROMS
Thanks in advance
are u on stock rom or on custom? if you are on stock then i am not sure if you can but install a custom rom with a2sd/int2ext/d2sd or whatever script suits u best. i use a2sd wirh app and dalvik on sd, appdata on nand
It's time you rooted your phone, got rid of the bloatware OR better still go for a custom ROM. Thanks for reply. I am using stock Roms with 2.2 firmware. My phone is unlocked but is not rooted and also S-on . Would i have to S lock off in order to install custom ROMS or i can install custom ROMs just after rooting with S-on

the above replies are correct, though i recommend you start with guides...
read the slowly and several times. they are designed to be used for anyone, even if you have no prior experience with rooting. you will also most likely to need to partition your sd card using gparted or 4ext recovery to make more space for apps, also covered in the guides.
then get in the habit of reading and searching...the answers to your queries have almost certainly already been answered...that way you learn faster...same goes for most things in life too

you don't have to s-off, but it is much more advantageous, so do it. the guides will tell you how to do it, just like it did for all the noobs...
if you want go through with this, you will have to be prepared to read and learn, and eventually do it yourself. it may seem scary, but we all had to do it at some point. (if you don't understand terminology, or get an error message along the way, you won't even need to post or open another thread, search it here or in google (for instance), someone else will have had the same issue...)

To s-off you will need to use revolutionary here is a guide on it: http :// androidforums . com / desire-all-things-root / 439627-guide-s-off-root-htc-desire-revolutionary-windows-published-4th-november-2011-a . html
I would install recovery CWM 5.0.2.0 from http : // download2 . clockworkmod . com / recoveries / recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
