Confused: which versions have expandable storage? - LG Optimus G (International)

My gf just got an Optimus G from Rogers in Canada and there doesn't seem to be a microsd slot. I thought the optimus G has expandable storage and that was one of the main pluses over a nexus 4.

Only ATT has an external sd card. All others have built in 32GB with 8 or 13mp cameras.
Sent from my LG-E971 using xda app-developers app

Nope, not for its Canadians. I think the international version does. At least we got 32GB of storage though. Still a plus over the 16 GB in the Nexus 4
Sent from my LG-E971 using xda premium

Ah damn. So not a big plus over the nexus 4... one other thing is the separate touch buttons (not on-screen). Are there any advantages of having them on screen? Why does Google do this?

Personally I dislike the on-screen buttons. I came from the Galaxy Nexus which has a 4.65" screen. But, actually not. Because the on-screen buttons are always present unless you're watching a video. So when you're just browsing and using apps you're screen is not at its fullest. Notable difference in screen size when I use the LGOG over my Nexus. But again, it's personal preference.

Yea I don't like it either, that's why I'm so curious why Google insists on them.

The bigger screen of the O.G ,plus the 32 Gig of memory, is the main reason why I'm thinking of paying more and buying it instead of the N4.It really shows to have the buttons onscreen instead of in the bezel. It really makes the screen smaller. Of course, unlocked bootloader, vanilla jelly bean and tons of devs might compensate for these flaws, but lower storage as well -- what worries me more at the end is the fate of the dev community for the OG, I really hope to see good development for that phone. It is really a good phone. If the devs pass on it I might just wait for a better offering later.. We'll see. I'd be happy ( I'm in canada ) to just get vanilla android and enjoy my phone

Rezound. You get beats, and sense.
HTC. Simple.

There should be zero reason why you should get the Rezound unless you absolutely cannot live without HTC Sense and microSD slot. The Nexus is simply better in almost all aspects imo.
The Rezound uses the Qualcomm S3 cpu, its simply slower than the OMAP 4 of the Nexus. My Nexus could play HD MKV videos smoothly, while my previous T-Mobile SII (using the same S3) can't while overclocked to 1.8GHz, and everything else is smoother on the Nexus.

Are you serious? You'll never get sense 4 (officially), which is the only good sense version since 2.1. And beats? Sure you get ear buds, but you can pick those up anywhere. And as for the sound software, I can easily beat it using DSP Manager on my phone. If you're joking though, sorry for the mini rant.

I have a Nexus and my wife has the Rezound.
The Rezound is considerably slower and laggier in every area except the launcher and camera. Using the browsers between them is a night and day difference. Scrolling/zooming anywhere and even just pulling down the notification shade is pretty laggy compared to the Gnex.
The only slight pros it has over the Gnex is a slightly better display (it's extremely crisp and bright - the Rezound still has the highest PPI of any phone on the market) and reception seems to be a bit better than my Nexus. I haven't really had the signal issues you see a lot of people complain about, but the hand-offs on the Rezound between 4G to 3G and visa-versa are much faster. Sometimes I have to toggle LTE/mobile data to pick up 4G, even with the newest radios. Not a big deal though, I have a widget for it in my notification bar so it doesn't even take 2 seconds. (Edit) Oh, and the camera on the Rezound is a lot better of course too in terms of IQ. Nexus is just faster loading and taking pics since it has zero shutter lag.

Note 2 or Optimus G? Definitely Note 2

Hi, I have the Optimus G for 2 days, and its a verrrrryyyyy fast device. What are the Quadrant scores you guys get with Note 2. I still have 12 days that I can exchange.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to get a Optimus G. Just want to know opinions from you guy's.
Edit: After using the Optimus G for 5 days its going back. I decided to get the Note 2 can't use anything that is not Super AMOLED. Thanx to all of you for your replies.

Didnt screenshot it but 6200 ish is what I was hitting. I remember my low scores was graphics probably due to the huge screen lol.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Quadrant doesnt really matter. Our phones can handle anything you throw at them..
Questions you should ask yourself when trying to decide is:
Do you like the big screen of the Note II or prefer the LG Optimus G's screen?
Do you like the LG overlay or prefer touchwiz?
Will you be rooting and installing kernals? (Because if you are, im pretty sure the boot loader is locked down on the Optimus G so you wont be able to install kernals)
Do you like the build quality of Samsung or LG?
Do you need the removable battery?
^^^^ Answer these questions and you will most likely know your answer.
Hopefully I helped.
Battery life alone is worth it. I'm at 59% with 2 and a half hours screen on, LTE usage, 15 min voice calls, and 15 min navigation use. Google Now is running and I have sync running constantly. Been off the charger for 10.5 hours. Best battery life ever.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
Well, here is my battery life on first full charge. Wifi was always on but only connected for about 6 hours (been gone all day). So LTE drain doesn't appear to be an issue as of yet. Lots of texts. 45 minutes streaming netflix movie over LTE While wife was shopping. Took about 300 pics and 15 minutes of video while at zoo. Lotbof internet and son playing Nova 3 for 35 minutes while driving to zoo. I am simply amazed!
Whatever your choice, don't think you will be disappointed if you do switch.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
I still fail to see why do people care about Quadrant so much. It's like, if a company made a phone which did absolutely nothing but get 15k Quadrant scores people would buy it just for it. The GN2 (and I'm sure the Optimus G too) runs buttery smooth with minimal to none lag. It can run everything you throw at it as good as the Optimus G can.
What you should really ask yourself is if you'd rather have a 5.5 size screen vs a 4.7 sized screen. Not everyone likes the 5.5 screen on the GN2.

I was in the same boat and decided on the note 2.
Mostly because it will have developer support and LG doesn't release software updates often (so I've heard).
IMO they are both great phones, I just like Samsung a bit better.
From everything I have heard...LG doesn't put out updates as often...and doesn't have as much support from developers as the Galaxy line does...No SD card support or S-pen with the LG...but has a better screen...but no practical option for multi-veiw..
For my choice...the advantages of what I am going to do with it...the larger screen...the s-pen...the extra storage...makes the Note II the winner..
Mac
I have both phones. The Optimus G is on temporary loan but I've had it for a week or so. It's got a nice heft and I love the rounded edge, but it's an LG. I have worked with their other smartphones in the past and there are always strange little quirks and issues. Not to mention they're horrible track record for releasing updates. This Optimus G has already had problems with the camera not initializing and having to reboot to get it to work. Honestly you wouldn't go wrong with either phone. But I do like the note 2 more. It has a great display, awesome specs, it's just a good all around phone and I suspect there will be a very healthy active developer community. Samsung has already shown that they are able to release updates faster than they have in the past. Maybe it is because cyabogen works for them now. If you really wanted, I could post side by side pictures and benchmarks and stuff like that. What I also like about the Samsung is that it has some added compatibility with other Samsung phones, including the very popular Galaxy S3.

+1. But I still went for the Note II. I handled both at the AT&T store yesterday and am glad I picked up Note II.
I bet the the Note II will have more user development support like roms, kernels, etc than the Optimus G
If the OP is worried with benchmarks, check the sun spider benchmark - the note 2 destroyed the Optimus G (note 2 scores between 1025 and 950 - lower=better) and beats the Optimus G in antutu and several others (look for Engadget review of Nexus 4- shows all major benchmarks between Nexus 4,Optimus G, and Note 2 - Note 2 wins 4 out of 6).
Note 2 has spen (KILLER feature when you use it, so dang useful), excellent battery life, bigger screen (Web page viewing is a pleasure), expandable storage (except for ATT version) , smart stay/rotation features... Such a huge list. Note 2 all the way.
I'm scoring between 6300 and 6500 in quadrant, but I don't give any credence to this score- I find sun spider and antutu more telling of a device's day-to-day performance.

It sounds more like you've already made your decison, since you are asking about if you should Get a certain phone on a forum with an obvious bias (nearly everyone on this GN2 forum has bought it already, so you will pretty much just hear people say get the GN2, because they made that decision, and will probably extend their opinion to you, to justify their own purchase.
TLDR: Don't expect an objective opinion )
That being said. If you like the bigger screen, you will absolutely not be disappointed with the Note 2. I'm sure the Optimus G is pretty good (haven't ever touched one though!) as well, but I can say for sure the Note 2 is one hell of a phone.:victory:

That's not always true. I have an Optimus G, SGS3,Gnote 2, HTC OneX, and many others. The fact that I have all these phones but choose the Gnote 2 as my daily device speaks highly of this phone. Optimus G Pro Review

Nearly all positive. Looks like LG is on the road to respectability. Now if only someone can find a way to get the Pro's camera firmware, among other features, to our OG...

Yeah, I won't be ditching my OG for it, but it's nice to see LG have three top tier phones in a row (counting the N4), and a proper competitor for the Note II. I just hope some of the improved software, in particular the camera firmware, makes it to our OGs one way or another.

Galaxy Note 2 double* (sorry, I know it was probably just a typo)
If you compare the two devices, they look almost 100% identical.
Comparison shot:
Link because it's a big image
When my HTC One X(L) broke, I originally went with the Note 2. However the size and quality of the screen (it looked yellow) convinced me to turn it in for the smaller Optimus G (and also cheaper!). I don't think I could go bigger than the size of Optimus G comfortably.

Agreed, I'm at the limit of what I can do one-handed with this phone. It's actually still a hair too big for my mitts. It isn't comfortable for big stretches and I'm in danger of dropping it when making far corner reaches with one hand. I could never really use anything any bigger, practically, and in a crowd without fear of dropping it sure to the slightest bump.

AnTuTu 3.1 19,300
Our LGOG benchmarked around 21k, so it's faster than the G Pro?
lg og seems to be benching around 21k on snows jb, 19k would be slower however from what I've seen the og pro has been doing about 25k

Depends on the reason and if custom roms and such are important to you.
If you want custom roms, i would say no.
If you want a bigger screen I would say yes.
I trade my GNoteII and way too much money worth of accessories for the Ogp. Couldn't be happier.
Was gonna get the htc, but i cant live w/o removable battery so i picked Ogp...and its awesome!

Came from HTC One. Only thing I miss is the amazing speakers.

correction, if you are a flashaholic then no, but cm10.1 is in the works and other custom roms will follow
Yes there will be stable cm some time.
I came from a HTC One. I loved the One but I am a phone whore. Honestly I miss blinkfeed but that's about it. The One is a great phone but I found the screen size too small. I had a note 2 and love it but it was hard to hold and the screen was substandard. The screen on the ogp is gorgeous and their UI is fast and extremely customizable out of the box. And though it is a 5.5 inch screen, the design of the phone and the thinner bezel make it much easier to hold. Battery life was iffy at first but after a few days it hunkered down and I can easily get through a day with 3+ hours of screen time.
I don't think I'll ever buy another Samsung phone again but we will see about HTC. The One Maxx has my interest peaked. But overall the ogp is the best phone nobody knows about.

I've also sold of my htc one, which I really liked and bought OGP. Awaiting delivery at the moment using Xperia zl which I'm fed up of, it lags crashes.
I'm going to miss htc one speakers, aluminium unibody, browser and LCD 3 screen which is the best and custom roms.
I'm looking forward to bigger screen, ext micro sd, home button notification light, camera, removal bigger battery,

Bad idea unless you prefer smaller screen and lag.

Financially you made a better choice. If you plan on keeping one phone for a couple years, the ogp is probably a better choice, but at&t dropping the full retail value so much is absolutely killing us folks who swap phones every month or two.

Someone wants to trade me a stock rooted LG Optimus G Pro tomorrow. I'm thinking about doing it. Because I see a lot of lag on the S4 but it's still a good phone. What should I do?

Depends which is worth more if money is not a concern then swap. LG is more appealing, personally I would not buy S4 nor swap OGP with S4. S4 is one of the most overrated phones.

It's up to u but I would do the trade in a heartbeat. You have had Both phones correct? If so than don't worry about what people say and go with what u like the best, I personally love the og pro and am glad I traded my note 2 for it. Best trade I've made in a while.

Agree fully. For me too. OGP was a hidden Diamond.
I would have never bought this if not have got great deal on it.
But now after OGP have decided to keep samsung out of home until they give any great phone to market.
