[Q] Problem after flashing Insertcoin 4.5 - HTC One X

Gent,
I have made a booobooo and would need your help to pull me out of this tight situation,
Senario is the following:
Yesterday I choose to try out a new ROM in my HOX.
I choose the Insertcoin 4.5 Beta, it looked nice and since the last Rom I installed was pretty straing forward I said what the hell....
Well to be safe I copied the whole content of my sdcard to a local drive, so the SD was empty, copied the zip of the Rom over and used the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.3.1 to install the zip. All went well, phone restarting and halting on the first screen.
On the last Rom I had similar issue, but that was sorted by a fastory reset. Done that. Still halting.
Now my phone is useless, when using fastboot with USB mode the machine does not sence the phone and basically stuck.
Can copy a new Rom over as adb says the device is not found :S
Any ideas?

Any one?

Don't tell me you didn't flash boot.img
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app

also i would suggest you to update your clockwork mod recovery to 5,8.4.0
It allows mouting of usb storage through recovery.
and what beta rom you flashed?
the latest JB insertcoin rom is 13 something and i guess ICS was 9. something.
are you sure you flashed the correct rom??
also you need to flash boot.img from fastboot and dont forget to erase cache.

Bricked phone :(

Hi everyone,
After much debating, I decided to update my HTC Desire's (from Telus) radio + rom. I had it rooted, installed ROM Manager, which led to my problem as i believe. I did a back up of the original ROM using the said application. I then proceeded to update the Radio to 32.43.00.32. This went fine. However, I then proceeded to install a ROM "[ROM] Rooted Official HTC Android 2.2 (FroYo) ROM [Market issue fixed]". I placed it in the SD root directory, and proceeded to recover using instructions provided by slimdizzy.
However, It failed to install the ROM and produced an error of:
E: Failure at line 72:
set perm 0 0 04755 SYSTEM:xbin/su
At this point, the stock rom on the phone has been deleted, and if I try to reboot, it keeps taking me back to hboot screen, or just a blank HTC screen, which then keeps rebooting.
I believe I have messed up very badly, and I was hoping if someone could help me out to at least just help me restore back to my original stock ROM if anything.
Thank you very much ahead of time!
If you can get into recovery, flash a different ROM?
.
.
Try running a RUU file as according to the version and build you had prior to this flash...
this might help:
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-desire-desire-modaco-com/307683/howto-unroot-your-htc-desire/
if indeed you can acquire recovery access its best you try flashing another rom...

Agreed. Did you use the modded recovery image like I posted about? If so boot into recovery and select partitions menu. Then go to mount USB drive or something. that will mount the sd card as a drive on your computer. Copy a new rom onto the card then unmount from the recovery menu and reboot the phone back into recovery. Select install zip from sd card and flash the new rom you just copied there.
This should work.
And remember, as long as you can boot into recovery, you are not bricked.
Keep the thread updated with your progress.

I believe I should be awarded the Darwin Award. I panicked too early and stopped thinking .
But having said that, thank you for responding so promptly. I was able to restore a ROM back onto it, LeeDroid Mod, after my 3rd try. First, I re-downloaded the ROM I initially wanted, but it still would not work.
On the second try I tried to put on the DeFrost ROM, but that didn't seem to go past the loading nexus logo, even after waiting +20 minutes, at which point I got a bit nervous, but this LeeDroid ROM seems to be working fine, for now.
At this point I will try to restore my original ROM using ROM Manager if possible, or go with "[ROM]RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8" as posted by Football.
Thank you once again to everyone who responded!

Bricked? Please help

Good evening,
before I start:
HTC Desire HD
Orange Branded
Clockwordmod Recovery
I was out and about today when I recieved a nice message telling me there was a system update to download and install. I got within WiFi signal and downloaded it. when I tried to run it, it kept hanging on the ClockwordMod (CWM) Recovery page. First it told me that it couldn't mount the SD card where the update was stored. So I mounted the SD card through CWM and tried again. This time it told me that it couldn't be verified. So I turned that off too. Then it told me something else didn't work so I disabled that (sorry, I can't remember but it begins with 'A'). I tried a final time to install the update but it wouldn't work still.
Then the phone wouldn't load. It just hung on the HTC white screen for about ten mins with no movement.
I removed the battery, reloaded by pressing Vol Down + On. I have tried every menu item but the loader tells me that an image (beginning with P****.zip) is missing. It lets me load the clockworkmod recovery page so I have tried to restore a backup that I made about a week ago. It restored it, (or so it said) but when I then told it to reload it still hangs on the HTC white screen.
It's now been hanging for ten mins and I'm just leaving it.
Does it just need to be left for a long time to reload from the HTC white screen?
If it does not reload, how can I get it to?
Many thanks for your impending help!
You havent bricked your phone, a bricked phone wont power on! For future reference, remember, you cannot flash an ota update with a custom recovery installed. As you have found out it messes your device up. Ok you have 2 options.
1. Try a full wipe from the mounts and storage menu. Then try to restore your backup.
2. Flash a custom rom from recovery.

I really thought restoring my backup would have done it.
I now need to try a custom rom.

Would you happen to know where I can get the Orange ACE Rom from?
I've tried to install the Cyanogen Mod but that has got me no further.
I downloaded the most uptodate build of Cyanogen Mod (7) and copied it to my SD Card.
Through ClockworkMod Recovery I installed Cyanogen Mod and it told me that it had been successful. I restarted the phone and it got past the HTC white screen.....
I was very excited until it is not sat here on the Cyanogen Mod screen which just loads over and over again repeatedly.
Any other ideas please? I suspect I need the Orange ACE Stock Rom....is it available?
did you wipe your phone before trying to flash the new roms as AndroHero suggested?
if not try that first (you can do it via clockwork recovery or via easy full wipe from mero01 -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720)

yes, the only thing I didn't wipe was the SD card because that's where the rom / backup is stored. Do i need to completely wipe that then put the backup back on there?
as far as i know, it shouldn't be necessary. but i'm not really sure, sorry.
you could try formatting your sd card, wouldn't hurt, but maybe it would be better to wait for someone with more knowledge about android than me.

Thanks for your help so far. I am trying everything. If I could find the actual Orange Stock Rom (Ace) then I might get somewhere. I don't want to install a custom rom if not necessary.
EDIT: I have found an Orange Stock Rom (RUU). How do i install it?
I can only get to the bootloader screen so do I plug the USB cable in at this point and run the RUU from the PC once the drivers have installed? Do I put the RUU on the SD card and somehow run it from there?
i think this is the newest stock rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969374&highlight=orange+rom
but as AndroHero already mentioned, i think you can't flash stock RUUs with cwm recovery.
p.s. did you give easy wipe from the link from my previous post a try ?

I must admit that i've not yet tried the Easy Wipe. At the moment I am downloading an older stock Rom (the one that was on there before this happened) and am following some other instructions to extract the PD98IMG.ZIP which appears to be missing.
I DID go through CWM to competely wipe everything with the exception of the SD card and i managed to almost get CyanogenMod working....it would work for about 20seconds before reloading again....very strange. It has given me hope though. I tried wiping everything before doing the restore of my original backup but still nothing.
the download is taking ages so I'll give easy wipe a go.....wait....
SOLVED
thank you for all who helped.
I solved this problem by downloading an older Orange Stock Rom from the link above. After that, I followed instructions in: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890 and reinstalled the rom.zip that it mentions. Sure enough, I am back to where I started about 3 weeks ago but because everything was backed up to the cloud I really don't mind at all. Sure, I have to root it with VISIONary again to remove all the apps that Orange have stuffed in but I can cope with that.
In fact, the worst thing is that I completed Angry Birds and Angry Birds Seasons and now i have no proof!!
Thanks again all.
glad that you could finally solved it!
i, too just lost all my angry birds saves because i just downgraded so that i could root my dhd

[Q] Stuck In Boot Loop

I rooted my DINC a couple of days ago with revoked 3.32. I flashed to Cyangen 6.?? (stable). I didn't like it so i tried to go back to factory settings. I am now stuck.
I made a backup recovery but didn't save an extra one onto my pc. I am now stuck on htc incredible (white screen) boot loop. I am able to get into recovery mode. Did a wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, back up and restore - restore folder, reboot. now stuck in boot loop. Did I do something wrong? Is the recovery file corrupt?
Not too savy on technical words/acronyms.
Try Stock
You can always try to reinstall one of the stock ROM's
http://www.shipped-roms.com/shipped/Incredible/
how do i do that from recovery mode?
Ummm
Those are all .exe files you run on a Windows machine that you have connected your phone to.
well apparently i can't do that cause it won't recognize my connection. Well I played around some more and downloaded Redemption v.2.4. Copied to the root of the sdcard, and ran an update through the recovery. Now running Redemption 2.4.
Thank you for your help!!
At the moment I've got about ten ROMs and at least 2 dozen mods and kernels for those ROMs. Some work really well, some just get funky over time, and others just explode as soon as I flash a mod to them. HeyItsLou ROMs like the one you have are very solid work.
Here's the thing though... you don't have to go in and rename every new ROM you flash to update.zip. you can go to "install .zip from SDcard", then go to whatever folder the ROM is in. It makes it much easier to keep track of your ROMs, kernels, and mods. It works exactly the same, you just have to tell it where to look instead of letting it assume it on the SDcard root.
Also, if you look on the SDcard, you'll find a folder with all of Lou's kernels. His come with number 4, but 8 is probably faster. It's just as easy to flash as a ROM.
Thinking about it, it takes flashing the actual ROM, then flashing 7 additional .zips to get mine where I like it. So you can see where having to rename every update becomes almost impossible. You'll get the hang of it and get more comfy. These things really are hard to brick if you're using ROMs and mods that are decently built. Just nandroid backup (I do it twice if I have none already) and keep a spare ROM on the SD and you'll be totally fine.

[Q] [Rom] I think I bricked my HTC One X.

Hello guys,
I think I'm dying over here.
I just got my HTC One X and since I don't really like Sense I tried to flash it. So here is what I did:
1. Unlock the Bootloader: Everything was fine
2. Flash Clockwork recovery via fastboot: Check.
2. Root the phone via Clockwork Recovery: Still everything worked
3. Flash the Bootimage via fastboot: Still green
4. Flash the actual ROM via Clockwork Recovery:
Here's where the problems started kicking in. The Rom started flashing, erased my internal storage, but then aborted for some reason.
Now I have the following Problem: I can get into HBOOT, I can get into the cwm, but thats it. When I try to get to the internal storage cwm tells me: internalsd was not found.
So I thought maybe I'll just set everything back to start via RUU. Problem is: I can't find a suitable RUU. Fastboot tells me my version is 2.17.111.3, but I can only find RUUs with the id 1.26.111.3. Seems to be an older version? Can I use that one, too? If not, has anyone any idea, what to do? I don't know what to do.
Thanks for your help.
You can mount your sd card within cwm recovery . Go to mounts & storage and then at the the bottom you see mount as USB disk. Copy another ics rom to it. And do the procedure all over. Flash the boot.img from the rom do a factory reset and flash the ics rom.
Try another ICS rom first !

Thanks for the quick answer, I appreciate it.
When I try to mount the whole storage as USB drive windows wants me to format it. Can I do that, or is that a bad idea?
Hmm well it depends if you have personal stuff on it like fotos or something. Of not i don't see the problem. And by this you mean the 25 gig that is available on the sd card ?
And what do you mean with "the whole storage" ? There is only 1 sd card in the phone. And that's the one that will be mounted with the USB disk mount option.
You are using 5.8.4.0 cwm recovery ?
Keep the info coming so help can be provided !

Well, no personal stuff. As mentioned, I literally just bought the phone.
I go into the recovery, then mounts and storage -> mount USB Storage -> plug it into my computer -> windows wants me to format the storage of the device I just pluged in...
Should not be a problem then, maybe it got corrupted somehow....make sure that you format it as fat32. Then copy another ics rom, try viper x ..... Great experience with that one ! Just to make sure the whole shabam works !
Chill!
Well Just wanted to tell u ..Chill u havent BRICKED ur phone.

To be honest, I chose cyanogen mod 9. I really like the vanilla ICS/JB.
One more question: What would I have to to, to use JB roms?
No problem ! It's great that it worked !
Well for as far as i know you have to update the hboot IF the CID number of your phone supports it. You have to flash a firmware zip in a way. I'm not into this. I'm waiting for the original OTA

Well, I see. Hm, the way I see it the changes between ics and jb are way to insignificant, to risk destroying my phone. So, I'll stick with CM9 for the time beeing. But again: Thanks.
Enjoy the phone and have a nice weekend
SD card can't be found
SOLVED SOLVED SOLVED
Tried flashing a rom but the installation failed, so I tried again only to get the message
E:/Can't mount/sdcard/
Rebooted my phone to find that the oririnal rom was still working but its unable to read my sdcard because its unmounted. Can't use usb storage or mount in recovery or use any recovery tools that require sd card access
If the HOX was a sealed unit I would simply take the sd card and put it back in
Is there solution to this problem?
Reformatting my SD card fixed the problem
If you want jb ROMs you don't need to upgrade hboot, only jb sense ROMs need to. You can flash cm10 without any kind of problem.

[Q] Phone stuck rebooting a custom ROM

I have recently updated my HTC one X to the latest CyanogenMod, after I flashed the rom the phone keeps rebooting endlessly
I have been looking for the past few days for a fix, this is my last resort, I've tried the following:
Attempt 1:Install an original ROM
Problem: doesn't go past htc logo, I tried erasing the cache before, as this was a common fix for it, I get "error:remote not allowed" (this happens when I try to erase any file recovery, boot ect.) so I tried a different path...
Attempt 2:use an RUU
Problem: not able to source an RUU that is newer (3.14.980.27) and attempting s-off, from what i could fine, required a working ROM
Attempt 3: load another nandroid backup onto the SD partition, one that is new.
Problem: Using CWM my computer won't detect the SD when mounted nor will adb detect the device whilst in recovery, I then tried TWRP, this resulted in "E: unable to open lunfile: (no such file or directory)" so that was out...
Attempt 4: push the nandroid file to the device using adb and then use CWM or TWRP to install the nandroid backup
Problem: only the file would be transferred and none of the juicy usable bits that I needed.
As you can see I'm a fair bit of a NOOB, and out of ideas so if you think I have done something wrong or have gotten close with one of these steps and just need to do it a bit differently please tell me and I can go into more detail on how I cocked up. I have tried these steps on 2 other computers with a huge range of usb cords as well.
If anyone can help, I would be a very happy person

Also which CM did you flash? The latest nightlys aren't very stable.
I would recommend that you visit CM11's thread which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=258303
from what I saw, the lastest nightlies aren't the most stable but a few builds before that seems too be quite good :good:
