ATT Tilt 2 texting limiting to 160 characters, anyway to change that?

Hi all,
Ive noticed for my ATT tilt 2, the text messaging limits it to only 160 characters. When i go over the 160 character limit, i dont see the rest of the message and im not sure if whether the characters past 160 characters are sent or not. Is there anyway to change this? Thanks in advance for any replies.

ATT has a limit per characters per message, so one text message will be 160 character limit, then it will create another text message with another limit of 160 characters so you will be sending two text messages. Hope this helps

Huh? I'm on the Tilt 2 stock ROM also, and I don't see this issue at all. Which one of the multiple (sigh...) texting methods are you using? The one where you click the new message icon within the Messages tab? Or the one within the threaded texting feature? Or the one where you click New Message within the "all messages" screen?

[Q] SMS size and accentuated characters

When I type an accentuated character the number of available characters decrease. As an example, when I start a new sms I have 0/160 characters available. Then if I type an 'á' the counter reads 1/70 but if I type an 'a' it reads 1/160. I think I had the same problem in my old Nokia phone and I solved it deselecting unicode charset or something like that but I can't find that option on the desire z... can anyone help me?

I have the same problem in French.
There is no solution but praying that Google decides to fix this. There's an open issue on the Google Code page here http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6522 but few people starred it. The more people will star it the more chances we have to see it fixed someday.

It's not a Google issue. The problem lies with the encoding of those characters.
The "content" part of the SMS can have a maximum of 160 characters when encoded in 7-bit ASCII. This means each character takes up 7 bits. However, the standard ASCII encoding only included the basic latin characters. Letters with diacritics need to be encoded in unicode (16 bits/character), which limits the SMS size to 70 characters.

Can someone help

I have an app called mini diary and i decided to make a daily diary entry on my phone to practoce typing on it.
The problem is that there is a 1000 character limit. This sucks cause well i like writing diary entries the size of small essays so it takes 2-3 entries just to write what i want to.
Can some one modify the app to get rid of the character limit or atleast in crease it to atleast 2500

sms received messages cut into multiples

I am running the stock sms app on my ATT s3 running JB. I am an iphone convert, so please bear with...
If someone sends an sms to me longer than say 4 lines of text, the sms will be delivered to me in multiple sms'.
Is there a fix/setting for this? My iphone never did this.

Short Message Service (SMS for short) is limited to 160 characters. On an iPhone, multiple texts are usually connected into one by the receiving iPhone (unless using iMessage; I do not think there is a character limit). Android, however, does not do that by default. One choice you have is to download a third-party SMS app, like goSMS. I use goSMS and it works really well, lets you join iPhone group conversations, lets you install themes, and will also connect texts over the 160 character limit into a single text.

Are you rooted? If so you can replace your sec_mms.apk which will give you Emoji as well as an option in settings for SMS to MMS which will transform long texts to mms to keep them together. I just rename you existing sec_mms.apk to sec_mms.apk.bak and paste the new one in and reboot. Hope this helps. Link below to thread with apk. I credit to original uploader...

This is a bit overkill. Just get one from the market and disable notifications from the default messaging application.

problem with sms

i've tryed gosms, handecn, chomp sms and the problem persist (the stock sms app doesen't count char/sms):
when sending a sms passed the 160 char the second message have 115 char left, after this 63, and then 15... so if i send a concatenated message that have 320 chars i pay for 4 sms not for 2 sms (160+160=320)... how can i solve this?

You could send separate sms.
