Navigation does not speak street name, bug?! - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed the Google Navigation app on the Note 2 does not speak the street name. Is this a bug, a new design or is there a setting I need to turn on to enable this feature?

I just put an address into my Note 2 and when it started to give me directions, it spoke the names of the streets to turn at...So it might be a bug that you're experiencing. Are you running a rom? Also check to see if there is any updates. I would also try going into settings>application manager>maps and clear data and cache. Then give it a try

Im not running a custom ROM. just the stock Rogers 4.1.1 ROM. I try what you suggested.
Update: it seems to have worked. Thanks

Disabling Apps ? and Caution

I like the new feature of ICS that allows you to disable apps. I used it immediately to remove the VZW bloatware that was pre installed (back up assistant).
But I may of taken it a step too far. I disabled the default calculator app ( just happen to like realcalc better). When I did that it screwed up my calendar. All of my events were MIA. Luckily I caught it before I did anything else and couldn't pinpoint the problem. - undisabled the calculator and every thing went back to normal.
So, like it says in the warning use caution when disabling system apps. And hopefully my little boo boo helps some one else out.
Anyone else disable a app and notice any strange or unexpected results???

I disabled Books, Vz backup, and phone (I'm using another dialer). So far no issues.
I also used autostarts to keep a few other apps from starting automatically all the time.

Talk back randomly starts

Hey guys, my galaxy nexus has a weird problem. Randomly the talk back feature found in the accessibility settings starts.
I am currently running, he AOKP Maguro milestone 2 ROM. Anyone know how to fix this?
Or if someone could tell me how to remove the feature permanently I wouldn't mind either. I never use it lol. I know there are some tools around and I'll search, bit if anyone can recommend a tool it would be really appreciated.
Thanks guys

Notification Toggle & TTS

Hello!
This thing happened to me when I had the Huawei U8800 too.
After I install Notification Toggle as a service (on Accessibility Menu, so I can use some features), every time I open a browser (stock one, Chrome, Dolphin, etc.), TTS starts reading everything. I tried with SVOX TTS and stock one.
It happened to me with ICS, now with JB it's happening too.
It's very weird, i've searched all the forum and all the web but no luck.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance and best regards
Go into accessibility settings and disable talkback..actually, just disable that entire section..it's for sight/hearing impared
Android is upgrading...
I have that disabled. However, to some functions of notification toggle work, I have to activate notification toggle on acessibility. But all other accessibility functions are disabled...

would you please tell me why you want to use that , i use the app but am unaware of what advantages this would give

I didn't like that one personally. Try power controls. It doesn't talk to you.or maybe disable the talk function under apps.

The only way I've been able to fix this is by disabling Google text-to-speech engine in settings, apps, all apps. Deleting talkback by itself alas does nothing to stop the talking...

Yes, but as I use TTS system to navigate with Google Maps, I have to have it on... In fact I use SVOX Classic, but it's the same. So it's some problem with Notification Toggle...

actually, that's not correct. the accessibility service is only needed on Android 4.0 (not on 4.1 or any other version) to keep the notification above all other notifications

that's when the app is installed in /system/app (see here: http://vps201.fra05-inx03.webhod.de/thomas/j4velin_development/dl-root.php?app=nt) and has nothing to do with the accessibility service
also i posted a workaround here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28842919&postcount=776 which seems to work for some devices. as this is a bug in the android system, i can not fix anything in my app

I think lightflow causes the same issue, gotta be something to do with the way they access the accessibility service menu

A temporary fix is to clear the cache of the Google TTS Engine, which is perhaps less inconvenient than disabling it if you use TTS features sometimes (Navigation comes to mind?).
Disabling it does seem to be 100% successful for me, but I don't want to do that if I can avoid doing so (I am using a Note II, not S3).

[Q] Why is google map taking up so much battery?

I Don't use my maps at all and i turned off all the setting as you can see and i dont have GPS on. so can anyone maybe take a guess why its take so much battery and its never under active apps. and i posted the setting in the pics any suggestions? I try to turn off my data when im not using it?

Go to Google Settings app, then go to location then turn off access location. Make sure Location Services is OFF as well.
Do you happen to use Google Now? For some reason, its location implementation makes it use Google Maps although you the user have never opened the app itself. I've had this problem myself too and I ended up disabling Google Now

what is that a app?
Go into Map settings>Location settings and turn off Resort grin this device and Enable Location History. This should solve your problem.
I had same problem I solved by searching on google. The trick is to disable and factory reinstall it.
When you go in app manager then map click Disable it will the propose you to install factory version say yes and renable it then boot just in case and Map won't consume the battery.
It worked for me and alot of other people
I don't why it do this some kind of bug in map that is delivered with phone but resting solve it.

You aren't missing much... Don't worry It's kinda sad what happened with talk and maps. Don't really understand why Google is trading functionality for looks...
Now that I went back and looked at it... The date on maps update says the 10th when it became available for me 3 days ago lol! Also, on the description, it says they will be rolling out for 4.0.3+ in the next few weeks.

This is a terrible revamp. We've lost starred places, easy offline caching, a separate nav app, on screen zoom buttons and scale, and the UI is more cumbersome for mapping/nav functions. The UI is more beautiful and is arguably better for casual info. But what is the point of maps? Beauty or real map functions?
For those that want the upgrade 7.0.2 attached.
This is probably the wrong thread but does anyone have the previous Google maps apk before the update to 7. I can't stand the new maps. I don't know why Google is insisting on becoming more like crApple. Neat UI but 15 steps to get to navigation, no dedicated way to lookup addresses in your contacts, once in navigation no way to check other route alternatives other than to back out of navigation, can't run navigation and then open maps to search for other places independent of navigation, and the list goes on. Why would you update an app and take away a bunch of great features.
