WIFI issues since 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Well the battery drain thing is driving me crazy, but another thing is this wifi issue, it will endlessly disconnect and connect, it does this all the time, disconnecting about every 15 seconds and connecting back again.
Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Guess that you've got your answer to your battery-drain-issue! But I haven't had these issues, maybe try a full wipe and reinstall?

Op, experiment with your router's Wi-Fi settings, if I'm not mistaken there were some changes on that (encryption algorithms i think).

Seems like I spoke too soon, after a reboot to the Router all is well. Sad though that I did a full wipe before realising that..

Well glad that you found the solution! Yeah, that's pitty but the bright side about it is your phone is cleaned up now

Impenetrable WIFI Sleep Problem

After checking couple of forums, I realized that this is a general bug for Android. Many people complain about it but it seems nobody could find an exact solution. I will try to explain the problem to be more precise.
Even though "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is checked as "Always", when the phone goes to sleep it doesn't connect to internet.
Wifi signal shows it is connected but it is not. I have to disable/enable wifi in order to make it work.
You can see many posts regarding to this issue. It looks like people acquiesced the problem since nobody found an exact problem.
Is there any solution that you could find?

I have GSM Nexus also.
I bought it 3 days ago. I noticed it right after I powered it on. I had similar issue with my HTC Desire.
Now I installed a ROM to try it and still no luck. I started to think that problem is because of modem.
What ROM & Kernel are you using?

This happens to me. I picked up some gameloft games in the 99 cent sale and downloading 800mb over wifi is impossible. The screen turns off and the download fails.
I found I have to set the screen to stay on when on USB, plug it into a wall, and download.
I've been on several roms. I haven't started experimenting with kernels but thats the fix I think in this case. Even CM roms do this. Hopefully it isn't hard coded into the hardware.

You could set your screen sleep policy to wait 30minutes to turn off. Surely wouldn't take longer than that.
+1...downloading game loft games is not possible. The game only downloads on wifi but the download stops after the screen goes to sleep.
Edit: Just tried downloading 300mb of game loft game data and it works even when screen is off. Im on AOKP BUILD 17, I definitely had this problem on stock 4.0.2.

I am my second Galaxy Nexus due to other issues. The first one did not have this wifi sleep issue, but my current GN does ( I installed a VOIP app on the second that was not on the first... not sure if this has anything to do with the wifi sleep issue). I think I may have found a work around. I changed the setting to never and tested a few times. Then I changed it to always again and now wifi remains on while the phone sleeps. I have tested it a few times and so far it is still working. I will update the post if the problem reoccurs.
Stock ROM (4.0.2)
You know what,I have the opposite issue.my wifi never shuts off.... I just leave it.wifi on this is way way way more battery efficient than my galaxy s. Even the cell radios are pretty awesome. Hardly take any battery at all.

Bluetooth not turning off

Hi guys
I've been getting fairly decent battery life, however am now connecting my phone to the car daily via bluetooth.
I've noticed some battery drain and after checking the built in battery stats and also better battery stats app, my Bluetooth is not turning off when I'm selecting it.
IE, connected on the drive to work, get to work, disconnected then turned off, but showing as constantly on.
Any ideas what could cause this?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I have noticed the same thing when viewing battery stats although I never use bluetooth and it's always off.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Any updates or anyone else having the same problem?
I also noticed it just a minute ago. gsam monitor tells that bt was on for 6hrs+ which is the exact same time with phone radio.
Earlier this week connected to my boss' car radio for bt aux, this is the first and last time I used bt. Switched it on&off from settings, nothing changed.
SH26CW, running 4.0.4
Might be useful to give the serial no's since it is useful information about the production site and date.

Same issue here, and same Android version. GSam always reports the same Bluetooth on time as the time unplugged, ie. it's saying that BT has been on all the time, while it's clearly off. I've tried different ways to switch off BT (using widget, using settings, going into Airplane mode and back) but to no avail.
Part of me is suspecting that GSam might be reading the wrong value and falsely reporting it as Bluetooth. But perhaps someone with a different battery monitoring app could check on this and confirm?
It is a bug, to solve it you will need to restart your phone.
This is the only way I find to solve this on stock 2.17/Android 4.0.4.
This bug is caused by turning your Bluetooth on and off.
I faced the same problem? But does that use battery? Actually.the Bluetooth is off.

Hmm, user fault then hheheheueh
the strange thing is, it does not consume battery at all. ok it's not connected to any device but I would think it would consume more than just %1.
may be non-discoverable makes it use less. not broadcasting anything.

I'm now having a chat with HTC live support about JB update and also asked the question about BT off issue.
He said, please follow the following steps.. Waiting for what he'll say..
So he suggested booting in safe mode, going to applications? >> manage, uncheck.. ? I'm not familiar with safe mode so I cannot surely say what he is talking about.
Has anyone tried this? Did it work?
So he sad that this will solve if an application is triggering the problem, but I haven't used any applications that use BT.
So, the next suggestion is factory reset, bullsh*t. sorry guys =)
useless post may be, but confirms that HTC official support has no fixing for this.

Hahaha, that's funny and more towards Apple ideology.
Bluetooth was designed to be efficient. But, if its running then it consuming energy ,and that's something I don't like.
I already checked logcat/kmsg ,but nothing about this Bluetooth issue.
I didn't see anyone on JB came to complain about this, let's see what the offical JB has to offer.

Try to disable "fastboot", and give it a try.
I am afraid nothings more can be done on stock, other option is to wait for JB and hope it already fixed.

Safe mode is a mode in Android, that will will disable all the 3rd party installed apps. Similar to safe mode in Windows. After your turned on your phone, just press on the volume key and it will get you there.
Beside that, I never trust customer support, and I never had a good experience with any of them.
The only good thing is about companies offering customer support, is they add job opportunities into the economy.
This problem just crept up on me. I noticed the battery was lower than normal, I checked BBS and it seems like BT never turned off. A reset would solve the problem until I turn BT back on again.
Does anyone know if this has been fixed with 4.1?

4.2.2: Bluetooth won't turn on

OK, I have Odin'ed twice, and wiped the poor little phone so many times I'm gonna need to use Desitin. It does not matter, I have pretty much tried every 4.2.2 ROM out there, and although I have had one or two that I could initially get bluetooth to turn on, even those would fail to do so after a few hours. I've tried rebooting with it on, rebooting with it off, does not matter. The last few AOKP and CM nightlies as well as Jedi, it will not even turn on. I have seen a few folks state somewhat similar issues, but I am getting that it is not pervasive for the community. Does anybody have any ideas as to a fix, or, even any ideas as to what causes it, so maybe I can play around with whatever and try myself? Or, best case-scenario, did anybody have the issue on ROM ABC and discover that by switching to ROM XYZ it was fixed? I'm not updating my sig because it changes multiple times a day anyway, but I am back to CWM 6.0.2.7 from TWRP if that variable matters at all. Same situation whether on stock, Cerux or ASD kernel.TIA...

Fingers crossed, so far so good. I reinstalled Rootbox which is awesome. I changed from CWM back to TWRP and also installed Cerux 1.42 which in the thread made mention of the bluetooth issue being fixed, and being kernel, not ROM related. I am using crossbreeder which makes things crazy fast. I saw the "nos script" in some thread but couldn't find it with a Google search. Do you have a link for it and what exactly does it do?
Edit: Crap. it went away. Oh well, back to 4.1. Hellybean it is. I just don't get it. BT works fine on any 4.1 or ICS ROM. Only thing with 4.1 is music skips in my music player but I can live with that, I can't live with no BT. Thanks for your help. Maybe when source drops it will be all good.

Well, what seems to happen is it is fine for 15-30 minutes after I've freshly installed the ROM, then it just turns off. When I then try to turn it back on it hangs at "turning on" and then goes back to off. At that point when I click "turn on", it doesn't even move. I'm a gonna try the fix, nothing to lose at this point...
Nuts. It fast moves to on and immediately goes back to off. White flag, thanks to all.
Apply the fix and delete all you devices then try turning it on and off with nothing on it...if it works then add devices one by one...if you have devices married to it the patch might not work also I think my computer dongle was the culprit

Remove or Kill RILD process

Hey everyone. Long story short. I dropped my Galaxy Nexus in water and after trying for quite some time could not get the radio signals to work. It seems Wifi and bluetooth work fine, however it can not connect to any cell towers anymore. I have come to live with it however I still would like to use the phone for other things. Like a music player or GPS. My problem is since I have dropped it in water the battery life is terrible and i originally thought it was the battery went bad or something, but it seems that is not the case. I replaced the battery and am getting the same thing. After turning on Show CPU Usage I have a process RILD that is using up quite a bit of power. I know it has to do with cell usage, seems to be that its related to 4G. I do not care about this process and want to kill or remove it totally however everything I see that says a hard reboot will fix it, however my power button doesnt work either. I just want the process gone. Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

I have tried airplane no, doesnt work. I have tried going into the build.prop and changing a few things I read in various forums to try and get that to work. I have also removed some .apk I thought might solve it, such as phone.apk, mms.apk and telephonyprovider.apk and still getting the same thing with RILD killing my battery in a matter of 3 - 4 hours from a full charge. I need a way to disable or kill this particular process

Sorry, but this site has some strict rules, the above being one of them. I will ask your thread to be moved. As for a tiny bit of help, did you immediately pull your battery and let your phone dry out for a few days before trying anything at all? This is paramount if you drop it in water.
good luck

[Q] Auto Brightness Keeps Turning Itself Off?

I know there's another auto brightness thread but I think my problem is different. I'll turn it on, leave the phone in standby for a while, and when I use the phone again I find the auto brightness doesn't have the check mark there anymore? Has anyone else noticed this?
I was wondering why my battery was draining so fast when I was using it. That's when I realized my setting was at full brightness but the Auto had become unchecked so it was running at 100 constantly without auto adjusting. I've used the 100/Auto checked on all my other Samsung devices dating back to the Note 2 and S3.
I'm thinking it's a software glitch which will hopefully be fixed in a future update. If it is, I'll live with it for now...
I actually had the same issue and I found that the issue was related to game recorder app I just uninstalled and now is fine
Interesting... I don't have any kind of recorder apps so I'm kind of at a loss as to what other app could cause that...

For what it's worth, I started having other issues yesterday morning. When I first got the phone, and did the OTA, I did a factory reset as was widely recommended to do. Apparently it din't clear up everything.
What I ended up doing was, yesterday, I did another reset using the Samsung Smart Switch software. I backed up what I could, let it reset, and restored afterward. So far it's been 24 hrs and no issues.

Interesting.. car mode is the culprit? That's not the only bug in that app then. There's an option to auto close the app when the bluetooth connection is disconnected from the car.. it doesn't work for me.
