I decided to flash my SGY with the Jellyblast V3 ROM by @AvijitGhosh82
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679563
The ROM looked really cool and after reading the instructions I was really excited to flash this, so I followed the steps and then after flashing with CWM and after reboot I get stuck at the Galaxy Y logo....WTH....did I just brick it!?!
Thanks to @Doky73 for his great thread, helped me to revive my SGY without any troubles. Thanks to Odin, the Samsung developer's true friend.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
Now I was on Stock ROM and still missing the Jellyblast, so I decide to give it a second try. Again Recovery mode, then flash CWM, after data wipe and cache wipe, I flashed Jellyblast and reboot.:fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed: 2minutes and woooooot the bootanimation....cool Finally I booted into my new ROM. Overall I had a great experience flashing and bricking and unbricking. As a newbie, all of us were scared but then all of us overcome it when we try. Thank you guys, for keeping this forum so informative and for all the resources. Keep up the great work :good:

Before you start flashing any custom ROM, you must keep a copy of your stock ROM with you. Any time if you brick your phone, you can flash this stock ROM and your phone is back to life again.
Go through @Doky73's thread for learning all about flashing stock & custom ROM. Read it carefully, it provides you links to download the stock ROM i.e. the ROM which came with your phone when you got it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465800
Brick is when your phone gets hanged or stuck during boot or keeps rebooting, try to get into odin mode/download mode from this situation. If that is not possible, pull out your battery, wait 10-15 seconds and now put the battery and again try to get in odin / download mode ( vol down + home + power button). Now connect phone to PC and use Odin to flash the 3 files present in your stock ROM (phone, modem, csc). If you followed everything properly , you will unbrick your phone!

first of all don't panic, you have nothing serious here.. think you forgot to wipe something before flashing
next try to enter recovery (hold HOME and VOLUME UP at boot) and then read ROM instructions carefully and reflash rom strictly following them, it helps always
here's the link about booting into recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390234
Good luck
Such a pity for you, the very first post on XDA and it's about bricking.. don't worry, it's all home-solvable

Haha, I've been following XDA but just i didn't apply an account here....
BTW, is that anything to do with my hardware?
Im just worried that if i keep flashing new ROM and it might hurt my phone.
Well, I did Wipe data before flashing the ROM, What else i need to wipe????
no, hardware remains unchanged, unless you write rom yourself or use smth carelessly, OC for example
cache and dalvik cache are also things to wipe before rom flashing, it's essential when switching between different custom roms
most of maniacs in development section have flashed tens of roms, however their phones. are still ok

Hey guys, so I was installing Chainfire 3D last night and on the reboot my phone got stuck at the Note 2 logo and wont go any further.
I've tried a full wipe from CWM and no dice!
I need your help to fix this asap as I have no internet at home and am in an internet cafe at the moment trying to fix this
Chainfire 3D won't work on jellybean....
Your only options are as follows:
1) boot to recovery and restore a nandroid assuming you took one?
2) flash a rom with ODIN (not sure if any of the custom roms can be odin flashed?)
3) wipe and flash a rom with recovery
4) use KIES to save and restore your device.

Hay man im waiting to confirm if your note is back alive !!!!!
His note will be fine, using CF3D just causes a bootloop, a wipe and reflash always fixes it.
Hey all, as Lenny said everything is working fine over here after flashing the ROM through ODIN - it's back from the dead!
Thanks to all at XDA for saving my precious Note 2
Would this be consider a 1st soft brick on the GN2? Congratz is in order?
My Note 2 got stuck on the boot screen. After the Samsung animation goes away and only the SAMSUNG word appears nothing happens. The SAMSUNG word only changes it's brightness and that is it.... The problem is I have many tasks saved in the S Planner and since those tasks are not synced to any server doing a factory reset isn't the best option because I will lose all my tasks and there are some task due to 03/2013... I can't remember them all :crying:
Hi, guys and girls.
I know this question sounds stupid, and someone might say: "Duuuh, use the seach-function!" - Well, I have, but as a new member it's pretty hard finding the things that I need when there's so many sections and such.
Now for my question:
At Christmas I recieved a Samsung Galaxy Gio. The phone is cool, and I like it a lot. However, I do wanna use a custom ROM. Can anybody tell me (step by step, please) how to do so? I have read the "Big thread For New Users", but somehow I managed to get lost in all of the fine new words.
I have done it before on my HTC Touch Diamond, (but I dropped it and now it won't start again) but I really can't figure out how to do so this time - and it would be sad to ruin my new phone by doing stuff I don't know anything about.
So, could anybody please be nice and tell me how to install a custom ROM? And please keep in mind that I'm a huuuuge newbie
I'm using Android 2.3.6
Thanks in advice.
Dennis
P.S. Would I be able to "revert" everything back to how it is now? Is there a way to "unroot" (I know there is, just not how to), and can the default ROM from Samsung be found anywhere?
okay so first DON'T use Rom Manager because it bricks your gio.
if you want to flash a custom rom you need to flash clockwork recovery. after that download "ext4 formatter" and flash it with cwm recovery (install zip->choose zip). download a custom rom and flash it in the same way as "ext4 formatter". wipe data and restart your phone... (clockwork mod recovery, ext4 formatter and custom roms can be found in development section)
if you don't like all these custom roms you can install the stock rom by downloading a stock rom on sammmobile.com and flashing with odin.
Sorry for my bad englisch

You don't to be a delevoper if you want to flash your phone. It's really very easy if you read a few infos about this. One post above you have a list of things that you have to do but it's easy. You can do this in about 10 minutes. Very important is: you must know what you do. And do this ! Here you can view a lot of tutorials and links of roms, recorecys etc. :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623393
Ok, so I guess this is what I'm gonna do:
1. Doing a hard reset of my phone (wipe).
2. Root my Gio using this guide.
3. Downloading and flashing a custom ROM (I'm very unsecure on this step, please give a detailed "guide").
4. After flashing (is flashing the same thing as installing?), I start up my Gio and I'm gonna do a hard reset.
Is this the way to do it?

1. Not needed to do before flashing but it doesn't hurt either
2. No need for ROOT if you plan flashing a custom rom. 100% of custom roms have root pre-installed.
3. Download the file, put it on your SD card (do not put it in any folder, just on your sdcard), go into recovery mode, chose install zip from sdcard, navigate to the file, chose it, chose Yes and wait for it to finish, do wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition from CWM and you're done!
4. Yes, start it up (it takes quite long time to boot it for the first time) and you may do the hard reset but i have never done it and my Gio is still working perfectly. And yes flashing and installing is basically the same thing.
P.S I know how you feel exactly atm. When i got my gio and learned about flashing custom roms and rooting, I was scared as well but now i have installed many roms and now it is like a normal thing for me. Have fun and DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER!
Don't forget to click thanks if it helped

The first two steps are right. after that you are downloading the clockwork mod recovery (also called cwm) and the ext4 formatter from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421650. now you are entering the stock recovery. turn off your phone and restart it but hold the power and home button at boot. now flash the cwm zip file (in the thread is all explained how to do). restart the phone and enter the cwm recovery by holding power and home button at boot. go to "install zip" -> "choose zip" and choose the ext4 formatter zip file. okay now wipe data. download a custom rom and install it in cwm like the other zip files. wipe again data. now restart your phone.
and tadaaa it should work
ps: if you are from Germany (i think so because of your name) you can write me a pn if you need help and i can explain it in German

Hi,
Thanks for both of the answers - However, there is something that I'm confused about now. Jyrx, you say that I don't need to root if it's a custom ROM, because custom ROMs already have done a root. But emyaz tells me that it should be done. Aren't most ROMs from xda custom? Fx. this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062676 (CyanogenMod 10.1 [BETA 2.5]) - is this a custom ROM? If it is, I don't need to ROOT, right?
emyaz, unfortunately no - I'm Danish, and I know very little German

Yes, like I said every custom rom has root. I think what emyaz thinks is that root is essential and if you don't install a custom rom you should root your phone. And your example has root and it doesn't need to be rooted.
EDIT: On XDA yes, there are basically only custom roms. If a rom isn't a custom rom or doesn't have a root then it is most certainly said in the topic.
You need to root your device before you start flashing roms. But is it nessesary to flash an ext4 formatter. I didn't do it. I do not have any problems. Where do you need it for?
Ardee - Sent from my Gio using xda premium app
Now I'm confused. One says that I don't need to flash, but others says that I need to.
I didn't root my phone before flashing roms. And I also haven't used ext4 formatter and it is working fine. So I don't know about that really.
---------- Post added at 12:29 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:27 AM ----------
Well I think for safety, root it. If you don't probably nothing will happen but I'm not sure, but if you do then nothing bad will happen either.
Half of the people answering give the wrong answers.
- root
- install custom recovery
- backup
Flash ext4formatter (cleans all partitions and mounts as ext4, no wipes needed, only use this first time installing a rom or after using ODIN to restore to stock)
- install rom
-reboot
Sent from my GT-S5660 using xda app-developers app
what i mean was that you need to root your device to install the cwm recovery. so the first step is to root your device and then install cwm recovery. sorry if i confused you

Hello,
I just installed the CM10.2 ROM on my SGH-T989 T-Mobile Galaxy S2 after having installed the Slim Bean (I think it's called), Jedi MindTrick, and AOKP so I already have the idea on how to boot a new rom already kinda experienced but I was gonna flash Gapps after installing CM10.2 and when I was gonna go into recovery it just didn't wanna boot up! I have very, very, important stuff including pictures, videos, and school projects so i would be very grateful to anyone that would please help me! At the moment, it's looping on the Samsung logo...
Just in case this helps I'm putting it in (but u already know this stuff anyways)
* CM10.2 made it so I have my own custom start up screen
* It also implemented its own charging battery icon when it's turned off
I really don't know if any of these features have anything to do with it but if someone could hand me like an updated/custom odin for that specific rom it would be great!
I have tried following the instructions given by techfanatic9 at YouTube indicating to go to download mode via USB, launch odin, and then use a .tar file called recovery-cwm-hercule but when it's done it just passes the Samsung logo and stays black.
If you need any more info I would gladly give out any!
BTW, I did wipe data/cache before installing the ROM those are the basics anyways

Hmmmm it doesn't sound hard bricked because it wouldn't start up at all if it nor would it go into download mode, you may have to take a hit on your storage and erase your SD.. can you get into your open recovery? Also as a disclaimer 10.2 is is very early alpha as team chopsticks is still working out their kinks and have said the 10.2 early roms have a likely hood of bricking the phone and messing with partitions.. very important to read thru the thread on very early rom threads.. report back and let me know

Hello,
I can not flash any ROM to my GT-P5210 Tab anymore.
I was on BinDroid ONE P5210 LITE V3.0.0, but since it is discontinued
and 2 other ROMs rolled out over the past days I wanted to give it a try.
- went back to stock with official firmware from "sammobile" for my device,
- flashed TWRP with Odin 3.07
- flashed ROOT with Odin
- went to recovery did factory reset + dalvik/cache (
- flashed new ROM (neither ROM Pimpdroid or Grievous is working)
after flashing Tab goes into a bootloop to recovery. First boot after flash takes some time in the Galaxy Tab3 Logo but in the end it reboots into TWRP. I have tried CWM too with the same results.
I am not totaly new to flashing, did it with my I9000 and now with my I9300 int. but with this Tab3 now I am lost.
Any ideas are much appreciated.

Hello,
I can not flash any ROM to my GT-P5210 Tab anymore.
- went to recovery did factory reset + dalvik/cache (
- flashed new ROM (neither ROM Pimpdroid or Grievous is working)

did u try root check app to c if u r truly rooted? is ur su updated? if so try reflashing the recovery...n the root file. do u have the stock kernel?
THink I Got a fix
This worked for me. The TWRP does NOT actually wipe anything. go to settings in whatever rom you are running, and do a factory data reset from there. Let it wipe all app data and EVERYTHING. Then go through the steps to install whichever ROM you want. It worked for me!! Post back and let me know if it worked for you too. I tried for 3 days to install anything, and this is the only thing that worked.:victory:

I'm uploading a stock firmware that can be flashed using ODEN. I have not tried this file, I just downloaded it, before I flashed anything, in case something went wrong. I'll post the link when it finishes uploading. Good luck! Post back and let us know how it went.

I tried your method and it worked. Another thing that works is first thing when you enter TWRP check if system is mounted, if not tick mount and then wipe the way installation of the rom suggests. This worked for me too. Thanks for ur time and the fish
Oh cool, I'm glad to help. I also tried to manually mount system, but untill I got that first ROM installed, it just un-mounted itself again. I hope these problems will be sorted out. Both recoveries act choked down somehow. (TERP, CWM) Looks like "source manifest CM 10.2 "thread is making exciting progress. I can't stop watching it. Most of it is over my head, but google helps me, in trying to grasp what they are saying.
