Any advice on using the S Pen for Windows? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I'd like to use the S Pen on my GN2 as stylus input for windows. So I'd draw on my GN2's screen and it would register on my laptop's screen. Does anybody know of any apps or conglomerations of programs and apps that will let me do this? Specifically I want to be able to draw things in OneNote 2013 for class.
EDIT: I found a few things, feel free to comment or add more ways to do this.
1. S-Tablet app
2. Use Galaxy Note as Graphics Tablet for PC
3. Use Android phone as native Windows 8 input

Thanks for this, I was wondering too. I need it to draw squiggly lines in Illustrator.

that's not possible. the stylus on the note relies on a special sensor behind the screen to relay it's info. have you tried the stylus on an s3? it doesn't work there either...
you can get a bamboo or some other wacom tablet but it wouldn't overlay on your screen but rather it would work like a mouse pad http://m.wacom.com/ce/ext1102/index.html#products

They are talking about using the note 2 as an input device, not just the stylus. I habe no need for it since I habe a 24" wacom writing screen embedded in my desk
I like to break stuff!

I know this is an old thread but I just found a way better app to be used
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sunnysidesoft.VirtualTablet.lite

And there is now. You were only 5 years ahead of Samsung.
Look up the Samsung notebook pro! https://news.samsung.com/us/samsung-introduces-new-notebook-9-pro-slim-powerful-pc-embedded-s-pen/

It would easily work, but why bother?
The Note2's pen is a standard Wacom stylus, so you can use any Wacom digitizer or touch input to interface the "S-Pen" with Windows. That said, the S-Pen isn't all that good of a stylus, and whatever tablet PC (or drawing pad) that you'd be using it with probably originally came with a better stylus, so the whole endeavor would really be rather pointless.

Samsung S Pen Compatible with T-989

Does anyone know if the Galaxy S pen will work with our T-989 and if there is a way to port that software onto our phones or will it be included in our ICS update? The reason I ask is because i hate using my fingers to draw something in the drawsomething app. I love that app but would like to make my drawings better. So will the S pen be compatible???
I think the S pen is just like any other stylus..not sure tho..if you have some sort of stylus lying and try that and see if that works..
T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2
ROM: Juggernaut 5.0
That is not correct. The S-Pen is a Wacom digitizer pen that does not work on a our compasitive screens. The wacom feature allows for pressure sensitive versus heat sensitive
Thanks for the correction..wasn't to sure..my bad lol..Learn something new everyday..

Nope doesn't work, tried my bosses earlier this week

No worries, Im a graphic artist and that was the first thing I wanted to know when it came out. There are a few youtube videos on that question.
I thought our phones screen responded to electrons.... Verified it with a battery, slide the positve side and nothing but when you slide the negative side of the battery on the screen it responds. So anyhting with a negative charge would work with the phone right?

That is interesting but I'm not sure I want to try so I'll take your word for it. And thanks everyone for the replies.....it's a little confusing to say the least. I was hoping for better news that would allow us to use a stylus. Maybe something will come up. Who knows.....
The note has two digotozers that allow for input through fingers and the s pen stylus. It has to be s pen because it is a different type of stylus so normal run off the mill styluses won't work. Same deal with us, but we only have one digitzer for input from finger only. So neither s pen nor stylus will work unless you get the one made for capacitive screens which are nit accurate at all.

Note 10.1 S Pen looks pretty good

Details at the bottom of this page
I hope we can use the S Pen and all of it's functionality on our N7000s
It looks a bit more contoured and the eraser could be handy to not have to press an eraser button on the screen to erase.
I wonder if the ability to display a cursor when you hover is just a software thing that will work with our N7000 S Pens, or if the 10.1 S Pen has something extra?
The cursor is part of android 4.0 which the 10.1 has. And if you try one of the amazing ics roms for the n7k u will see the cursor.

Ah, cool. Thanks.
Looking at the ICS ROM comparison table in one of the other threads, it still seems there are a few bugs to iron out in all of the ROMs before all functionality is there.
I'll wait a little longer before upgrading to ICS.
It does more than 'help you aim' - it activates mouseover events. As far as I can tell, nothing but websites in the browser really support them, but It's something.
I like the fact that it's nice and big without having to put it in a pen case adapter thingy

I've been using a similar one that came with my thinkpad X61t tablet that I bought about 4 years ago. It's a Wacom pen.
I use it for note taking and occasional doodling, the eraser function also works with the S Memo app and a few others that I have tried.

[Q] Can the S-Pen be used on other touch screens?

Apologies if this has been asked before, but can someone reliably inform me if the S-Pen can be used on other touchscreens not officially supporting the S-Pen?

The GN2 S Pen will work on Galaxy Tab devices with S Pen, but you couldn't for example, use it with a HTC or iPhone.
The S Pen is a Wacom device, so needs the handset to have a Wacom screen & drivers to work.
That's a very basic explanation, but you should get the idea.

To add to this, the technology behind the spen is largely driven by the software side of things so for it to work you need both the compatible software and hardware.
It doesn't operate the same as a capactive stylus, which is a good thing as it is how we can get such percision from the pen.
thanks guys for the quick and informative responses, understand now

In that case it must have a Wacom stylus and digitizer

Does that mean the S-Pen will work with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 P3100??
I have tried to get a definitive answer, but nothing so far??
No because it is a potentiometer stylus. That means it converts the movement of the pen into electrical signals. That requires a power source which it doesn't have. The digitizer create a magnetic field which powers the spen.
So other phone don't have it and you can't use spen with them. You can use a conductive stylus which just stimulates your fingers

Can the note 3 pen be used with the s7 edge? If so, what software is needed? I really miss being able to use it since my note 7 was recalled.
So will the s pen purchased separately work with the galaxy a tab 10.1 WUXGA

Help me choose a pen

Hey there,
so I've been using some standard noname pen for some drawing apps along with my S3... but truth is I really hate it.
Its one of those with a pretty thick writing piece, it gives a feeling of not exactly knowing what you draw or what you are tapping onto.
So I was looking for another pen, a pen with a pretty slim tip, giving a more controled experience.
First thing i noticed is that there really aren't alot of those. The ones I've been looking at are made by samsung for their galaxy note and galaxy tab devices.
So here is the question: Are those pens basically compatible with the S3? Who can really give me assurance it will be working?
This is one of the pens I'm talking about: Samsung ETC-S1J9SE
This is the S3 pen with really really bad reviews (I really don't want to buy that one): Samsung ETC-S10CSEG (C pen)
Can someone provide info or suggest another pen?
Thanks in advance!
swent
PS: All I want is basic touch functionality, I know some of these pens have extra buttons or rubber features, I don't care for these extra functions.

besides the S pen, another popular one is adonit jot
you can find the s pen cheaper on ebay. was gonna get one for 15.
The note actually has a different interface for the stylus I belive it is similar to a wacom tab, if I recall correctly it uses wacom tech. I don't believe the stylus for the note will work properly with the s3

Cool spen trick! Tap while hovering.

So if you want to tap while hovering. Get the s pen close to the screen and put your finger under the s pen tip and press the tip in. I just found out that the screen isn't the one recognizing the taps. The s pen has a sensor that tells the phone that it is touching the screen. Maybe many of you knew this but I just found out so wanted to share!

Neat! Even though you would have to practice to be able to do it well, since it is so tiny.
They should have added an extra button on the pen to do that action.
Ya I really wish they did. I been trying to find some kind of method to tap while hovering for a longggg time
I wish clicking the button on the S-Pen could function as a tap so I could browse like this...

That would be pretty cool.. It's probably just a matter of time here at XDA.
Actually I might get an extra pen & try to take this on. If the phone can register a click while hovering using your trick (which I tried and it definitely does), it should theoretically be possible to remap the hard-button to tap into the same trigger that the phone recognizes when the pen's tip is pressed. It's gonna be a ***** getting this pen apart but at least the button is close to the tip :good:.
If anyone knows where to get a note 2 pen for less than $50 let me know..
EDIT: Just discovered that if you hold your finger over the tip of the pen (keeping the tip depressed) you can scroll/tap/etc. when you're within an inch or two of the screen.. Intersting

Just take a look around for any pen that works with a bamboo tablet digitizer thing (those writing pads for computers) from my understanding, as long as it works with that, then it'll work with the note 2

No so. Those use Wacom or N-Trig digitizers. Does not work with Samsung technology. Believe me, that is the first thing I tried with my Bamboo pen as soon as I got my device.

The idea that I was thinking of, as a spin-off to the OP's comment, was having a pen modified so that you could just wave over the screen to move around within the OS and just tap the button to interact. Obviously it's not a game-changer but it would be fun playing some games or even swyping without having to touch the screen.
There might even be a way to modify a glove or something that works in a manner similar to kinect.. of course you'd have to be pretty close to the screen but still might be a fun little project to play around with.. Anyway, extra pen is on it's way.. we'll see where this goes.
I think you could just remove the s-pen button cover and adjust the sensitivity pot and achieve the same thing?
Prety neat trick consideringi have the invisable shield and the spen destroys it

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but another cool spen trick that I happened upon while hovering is switching from pen to eraser by clicking the spen button.
Since it looks like we are starting a Cool S-Pen thread here it works ridiculously well in splashtop and gives you a super responsive and accurate mouse
And as for figuring out a way to click without touching the screen it would probobly be easier to swap the input events rather than physically modding the pen

Wow that's a much better idea than the hardware mod I was thinking of.. I'm an absolute beginner at coding & hardware comes easily to me so I don't feel too stupid for not thinking of it.
Ideally I want to try & write an app that would give you the option of switching the preset input events on the fly so I could go from normal spen use to "hover" spen mode with an IME type notification or something.. Now where to begin
