ICS Update for SI 1246-3341 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm trying to find out if there is an ICS update for the Xperia Arc. I know there is an update out but that it's not available for all handsets yet. The SI number is 1246-3341. I'm not going to bother rooting and flashing if there is no update for that SI number. Anyone know anything?
I realise this info is probably out there somewhere but I can't find anything definitive.
Cheers

It's better to just bother to root and flash an ics Rom. So much more things you can do after rooting as well

[Q] Flash 2.3.2 Global>Root>OTA update?

Hello,
Has anyone tried to flash 2.3.2 global, root it, and is OTA available for 2.3.4?
Anyone taught of that?
I haven't tried yet cause is there any app to backup phone settings and phone memory? from SE?
I CONFIRM THIS WORKS + ROOT REMAIN
Regards
AFAIK, no OTA available yet for 2.3.4...
+ OTA for the update before this was only for HK and UK ( and Germany if i'm not mistaken ), no world generic or other region... so we might guess that the OTA 2.3.4 will take too much time to go for the firmware version of choice...
some guys already converted to HK version as it's the fastest one to update...
I had the Germany version and till yesterday evening there was no OTA update...
but now the phone is not working after upgrading to 2.3.4 and than downgrading back to 2.3.2 global and rooting it
I have seen a lot of people including myself had their phone ****ed up by downgrading 2.3.4 to 2.3.2 and root. I suggest you to wait till there is a solution for this problem.

I am tired of flashing my phone back and forth and getting really frustrated. So I went to SE, told them the phone was dead and play dumb. They gave me back the phone with a new motherboard. Now I am using 2.3.3 4.0.A.2.368 HK ROM
From 2.3.4 to 2.3.2/2.3.3, try this:
There is no problem with UK.184 -> Root and OTA to .368 (no need remove battery even).
Also no problem if I want 2.3.4 again, then I flash Nordic_Telia branded.238
-Tried two times already, cause I couldn't decied which one I wanted.
Hope it helps
2.3.4 OTA is now available for generic world

Yes, it is available now OTA with Root (happy), but I want to argue about people calling it Generic_World firmware all the time here on xda, it is Nordic!
There is no World region firmware as far as I know?
well I flashed back to 2.3.2, rooted, and now I want to OTA, and can't connect to download ! says : impossible to download now, try later.
I don't know whats the problem now.
also the ota update is only 44mb.

Keep pressing the update button a few times, it worked for me.
But now happy rooted 2.3.4 with locked bootloader.
Ps. Please stop calling it Generic_World though!

AFAIK the update is not for a particular device but for a particular region, so if they have released for India then all devices here running the generic firmware that came with the phone would be getting the OTA notification...I wonder how did u get it? Did u flash another firmware after u purchased the arc or did u have the generic one that came installed on the phone?

[Q] R800at 3.0.1.B.0.285 update

Hi, yesterday when i plugged my phone(R800at) to the PC, PC companion told me that there was an update for my phone (in that moment i had the 3.0.1.B.0.270 version in my phone, 2.3.3), so i thought that probalby was the 2.3.4 update for the r800at, after updating i search for the android version of my phone and it's 2.3.3 again but the build number is 3.0.1.B.0.285, so someone know the changes between the two versions??
Ty.
Same here i can't figure out what the difference is... Are you on AT&T also?
If you look at my r800at root questions post I lost root when I upgraded to .285 other then that I cant tell a difference.
So there isnt a way to update to 2.3.4?

Flash nordic generic rom.
I haven't noticed the changes either other than not being able to root.
Yes the only way to root now its to flash your device to another firmware, i used the r800a 2.3.4 and use the Doomlord zergrush to root it, and i happy with the change, i need test if the data speed change because now the phone only shows a H and not an H+.
One big difference for me is that this firmware seems to have solved a problem with my Xperia Play that's made it unusable as a phone for the past 2 months or so...about 1/2 the calls I make or receive, I could hear the caller, but they couldn't hear me. I tried switching to the North American generic firmware and that didn't solve the problem, but I saw this firmware yesterday and decided to give it a shot. I've been making calls all day long without any trouble. I wish I knew what they changed that fixed it. I miss 2.3.4...maybe the Nordic generic is worth trying?
I asked Sony about a changelog and was told there is no official changelog.....guess we are left to try out for ourselves.

AT, A, and I, have no hardware differences.
You can install any rom/kernel for any of them into your phone.
Id suggest first getting off 2.3.3, You wont be sorry.
You can flash the stock 2.3.4 r800i.

With Nordic Generic, were you able to get the H+? Have you tried North America Generic?
Actually, 4G is the only reason I'm still in 2.3.3.
It just showed H but the speeds were about the same. Which firmware are you referring to when you say north American generic?

Right but which build? far as I saw the .42 build was the generic nordic one....didn't see any specific north american generic.
I think this is probably the one he's referring to...this is the version I tried when I was having trouble with phone calls on AT&T's original stock build as well.

One thing I noticed is under about phone and software update. There is now a Network choice to download the phone updates over Wifi only or Wifi and mobile networks.
Before I could only do update via Mobile Network. I haven't had a chance to see what else is changed. Its a bummer it is not 2.3.4 though. This update was shown as certified in Dec of 2011. Took them long enough to push it out. I see no mention of any other certifications on the certification site that I saw the update on initially, ptcrb site. Sorry can't post link because I lack that ability.

Oh sorry for not replying, I just got lost and I didnĀ“t remember where I wrote. You assumed a lot and your asumptions were right. I'm on r800a .42 and I sometimes have problems with data speeds. I made before and after tests with mobilespeedtest.com and geekaphone.com/mobile-speed-test and the results are more or less the same. Sometimes higher scores and sometimes lower...
I would like to return to at&t stock but the pros overweight the cons. I have root access, status switches in drop down status bar, changed my font, and even CWM!.
The best that could happen in the future is stock ICS for R800at...
facil - easy
change is that the camera shooting with auto focus, but nothing else, I have the same cell in Bolivia, but flashee with a version "a" and wonder if you are using 4g Keep it the original version of AT & T, but if not better using a firmware "a

would love to have a fix for that issue on the R800at!!!
The only way i have found to fix it is to switch the radio to GSM only.
It just sucks because i have to switch back to WCDMA to use my data.

[Q] Can anyone post to root 4.0.4 kernel the OneClick way? [Arc S]

Need help regarding my Arc S
i am on locked bootloader 4.0.4 ics. I dont want to unlock bootloader and do any fast boot mode, cwm or to remain in 4.0.3 kernel with skipping 4.0.4 kernel while flashing to 4.0.4 full update, then flashing 4.0.4 individually later way , etc ...
I understand both 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 kernel version are same but still 4.0.4 isn't rootable the old Root Exploit One Click way, which was used for 4.0.3 . So definately there could be some difference mayb better battery performance, they would have locked to not be able to root the old way and something new is needed for it? i mean they maybe would have just modified the same kernel version...
so please would highly appreciate anyone's help if one can provide me root 4.0.4 kernel the One Click way .

thanks for understanding and for letting me know, though hope one simple way comes out soon..
my basic idea is as like many others, we try different generic and in end we would only want our generic to be running when it officially comes because maybe we get less bloatware, better performance or could be anything..
so i want when i get 4.0.4 update then i cleanely update with root one click way... to get everything my generic with root in the end, even if other generic's kernel verison, etc be the same...
So i am counting on the genius devs here!
if we don't get root one click way for 4.0.4, then my other idea is i will officially update 4.0.4 via pc camp when it comes to india .. and when i get it i will check it with the 4.0.3's kernel version screenshot that i will already save to pc. So if they will be the same.... i will then only flash 4.0.3's kernel then will root my phone the old one click way ....
after that then will flash my phone with 4.0.4's kernel from 4.0.4 update ftf which was leaked on xda as i wont mind flashing other generic if everything matches. So i then will get it confirmed everything from stock that what i got in my region was the same aswell i didn't missed anything and will in end have stock 4.0.4 with stock 4.0.4 kernel(of other generic, but if version and everything will be same so can say indian kernel aswell) rooted! this way. Will do all this only if root one click simple way isn't developed for 4.0.4
Hope people understood what i am tring to explain the logic, it is very complex and absurd but all in the end all i am asking is to get same simple way to root 4.0.4 in the end

[Q] [ARC Lt15i] rooted .42 FW with locked bootloader - how to upgrade to stock ICS?

Guys,
I have a Xperia LT15i with Locked Bootloader which is rooted and currently on .42 firmware.
With the new official Sony ICS update release, i'd want to move to stock ICS with latest firmware, can anyone please guide me how do i do it ??
Do I update using PC Companion or can it be done OTA ?
Also, once i update to stock firmware and stock ICS, is it still possible to root my device and keep the bootloader locked ???
I need the right advice, i am scared and dont want to end up with a bricked device...PLEASE HELPP
EDIT: I know there are lot of threads on the forum, but I am not an expert and scared to cater to this update and lose my beloved phone ...
if some one can just guide me with a step by step process, it will help a lot, it's a sincere request..!!
First of all, you can indeed upgrade!
ICS is not available through OTA, so you should go only by PCC for now.. But check if PCC shows that the update is available, because the update is available for only selective SI nos (to check your SI no remove your batrery and look in the sticker below the battery on your phone).. If PCC shows the update, then no problem!
If not, try downloading the ICS ftf file and flash using flashtool..
And for your last question, yes you can indeed root with a locked bootloader.. I'll post you the link below

Thanks a lot prasad for the reply, I found my SI number in the update list yesterday on the sony blog post.
For the rooting process, is there a better explained tutorial ? The link that you have referred is good but lot of things are just to be assumed
There is a link to the sony blog with a similar tutorial but I am not able to locate it, can you help me find it please ?
