[Q] three symbols of death...and adb bootloader issues...bricked...need help - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

ok so here is what happen, i originally was trying to odin back to stock, i used a file that was for gsm and not sprint, upon doing so odin kept failing, now i have this screen where it shows a phone, hazard, computer with dots in between, i cannot get it to boot into anything... i downloaded the gnex toolkit, followed directions and installed drivers... i cannot get the adb and bootloader drivers to work the all have caution symbols...i have been locked out of my phone going on day 2 and i really need it being its my only line of communication... before all this happened when it was in odin it showed connecting correctly but i dont know if debugging was on before i started odin...please can anyone help me with these drivers...i also deleted them all and then used pda net and it gives me the normal samsung usb composite device driver but nothing else....i am really screwed...please can anyone help?.... thanks in advance...

If you can get into fastboot, try this guide:
http://islascruz.org/html/index.php/blog/show/Upgrade_to_Android_4.2_on_Galaxy_Nexus_(Yakju)_.html
But skip the part about editing the file and taking out
Code:
-w
. If you can't get into fastboot, then I can't help you.

Had the same, pulled the battery for a while then replaced it and it went back to the symbols you described at start of your post... this is still symbolizing interrupted download mode and Odin will still work. Closed and restarted Odin and started flash again successfully. You will need to, I think, flash the rom AND re-partition with .pit file.
If it is "bricked, or semi-bricked" debugging will no longer exist as it's part of the OS

I have the .pit for gsm model that I use over here, but not sure if it is good for your model as regards partition sizes....being in Europe I am not to much in the know for tech specs of North America models
I'm if you search xda or ask somebody will know
Here's the .pit I use

Q) Bricked epic flashing modem from froyo. Stuck at Param.lfs

Can someone please help? I bricked my phone trying too flash the modem and I keep trying too recover using Odin. I put the tar file in the pda part and the pit file in the pit section. I got both these files from the how to recover brick thread. But when I click start, it gets stuck on the param.lfs part. And the words PARAM go into the white box above the progess bar. Can someone please help? Im scared its bricked for good.
EDIT: I was able too get passed param.lfs but it keeps freezing in different spots, it never completly finishes. Odin is soo unreliable :/ At one point it got too 50% but my phones screen turned pink and it froze. Is there any other program I can use? Or a more stable/reliable version of odin? I have version 1.0 and i've tried 1.3 and no luck too

I had a similar problem awhile ago with a 2.1 flash. It worked out fine. As long as you can get into download mode you should be ok. You don't have a brick.
Just follow the instructions on the flashing back to stock link that is in whodamans post.
I used the .pit in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032 with the DI18 update in this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794138
I did have an issue once where I fixed it by just using the DI18 update and not the pit file(it seemed to find the pit in the update i guess...anyone feel free to correct me on this if i'm worng)
If that doesn't work
3a: Reboot your PC and pull the battery on your phone
3b: Wait for PC to reboot
3c: Open Odin
4c: Put batter back in phone, boot to download mode
5c: Once in download mode connect via USB to the PC
6c: Run it again

I've yet to see a truly bricked Epic. People that use that word should take that as a sign that they shouldn't be flashing.
I had the exact same problem with Odin freezing at "param.lfs". First of all, Odin is hit and miss. A lot depends on the USB cable as well. I ended up having success with Odin once I switched back to the original cable that came with the phone. Also try different USB ports on your PC. Some people have reported problems when using front panel ports. Try ones in the back that are directly on the mobo.

good point about the cable, although most of the time I see recommendations against using the stock one for anything but charging.
I use a BB cable that seems to be thicker than the stock epic one and haven't had any issues.

unplug the phone, pull the battery, restart the computer, walk away for 5 minutes and take a breather, then come back and try it again. As the above poster said, Odin can be screwy and it can take multiple times to go through sometimes.
Make sure to use a better usb cable if you have it available, or borrow one from a friend.
also, make sure to restart Odin in between attempts

So i click power and it starts too BOOT! it said samsung then went into a black screen, then it went into stock recovery. Can anyone tell me what to do from here? I think there is no rom in my phone and I need a stock samsung one too flash through samsungs recovery. Can anyone help? I apreaticate everyone whos tried too help.
I am using Odin 3 v1.3
I don't use the .PIT file at all.
I put the SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5 in PDA and make sure it's checked
I uncheck F.Reset time
Put the phone in download mode and hit start.
I you still are having problems try a different micro usb cable. Samsungs cable sucks.

I clicked on this thread because I knew this attitude would be present here. You're saying 1) the reason for the problem is 100% this ROM and 2) no one can be trusted with this ROM because some have had problems... great.

And I also came in to say this, almost. I don't have too much Epic experience, but yes, people always say ZOMG ITS BRICKED and what they MEAN is it isn't behaving how they expected after a flash and it may require a reflash/recovery. If something is bricked, it is a useless mass of plastic and metal that might have some value sold on Ebay as parts.
...though I'm not discouraging people flashing. Just wish people would stop using 'bricked' as a catch phrase, and instead just tell the story and ask for help.
Sasha if you cant use Odin to restore it, then it's bricked. My advice? Take it back to Sprint and get a new one.

What should I say too the sprint employees? I thought bricking the phone ruins the warranty. Also I am able too get too stock recovery and download mode, but odin doesnt flash any rom fully, it always stops. I tried too just flash pit and that worked. Is there any other program you can use or can you flash the tar from the stock recovery which I can get too?

[ROM][ODIN]noobfriendly stock jvt firmware (root included)

Hey guys,
I was searching the xda pages for a stock odin firmware for my beloved i9000, I didnt find any so I thought that it would be good that i would post the firmware found at sammobile's website and include vodoo odin kernel to get it rooted
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE THAT YOU DO TO YOURE PHONE IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCKTIONS TO THE TEE!!!!!
And this is for the whole europe!!!!!! Don't know about other parts of the world......
Instructions:
1. Get odin 1.82 or any odin version. Link for odin and the rom are in the next post
2. Unzip the file provided and extract it to somewere where you can find it later.
2. Open up odin with administrator.
3. Switch your phone off and put it into download mode. (the combo is volume down+home+power)
4. Connect your phone to your computer. Odin should reconize your phone and a yellow box will appear.
This is the most important part:
5. In odin, these are the choises you will have to put in:
Pit: s1_odin_20100512.pit
Pda: CODE_I9000XXJVT_CL617736_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Phone: MODEM_I9000XXJVT_REV_00_CL1064602.tar.md5
Csc: GT-I9000-CSC-HOME-MULTI-OXAJVT.tar.md5
things tickked: repartition, auto reboot, f-reset time. It should tick these automaticly, if it doesent, tick them!!
6. Now click start. It will take a while, so grab something to eat and watch it do its work. When your phone will start the bootanimation and odin says passed, you can disconnect your phone and close odin.
7. Now when your phone has booted up, switch it off and put it back to download mode. (volume down+home+power)
8. Now we will install voodoo kernel. Start up odin with administrator. Connect your phone and in odin there will pop up a yellow box.
9. Put voodoo-kernel-XXJVT-v1.2.tar.md5 in to pda slot in odin.
10. Click start.
11. When your phone is booting up, you can hear a lady talking. This is voodoo. You can disconnect your phone now.
And when your phone has booted up, you have a rooted stock samsung rom.

Odin v1.83 was the last compatible version with the i9000, v1.82 works as good, but majority of the newer versions will freeze or not work at all with the i9000.

RE-PARTITION IS A GREAT WAY TO KILL A PHONE FOR ANY NOOBS/NEWBS i KNOW I DID A YEAR AGO.
Why on earth would you call this a noob friendly tutorial. Every other tutorial I've read since bricking my first try with ODIN where I DID follow the instruction and DID put all the right parts in the right boxes and ODIN failed and I still have that bricked board to this day.
Re-partitioning with ODIN is a bad idea for anyone that does not own a RIFF box to fix the brick or is willing to send their device away to have someone do it for them. It's a mean thing to do if you know what your doing. Noobs maybe noobs and not newbs but getting giggles out of messing their devices up just to show them how smart you are and how dumb they are isn't cool. You yourself wasn't born with all the knowledge and had people thrown stuff like this at you where bricking your device is a very good possibility.
I've been learning this trade (albeit not too much lately making a living has been more important among other things) for about two years now and I have tried re-partitioning 3 times I think on devices I didn't care about due to them not being worth the investment to repair the broken this or that and all 3 have ended up bricks.
Anyway, c'mon don't discourage people from trying to learn this stuff by throwing tricky tutorials that fail most of the time unless the noob or newb manages to get lucky and it works. And just tell people to get lost instead of kicking them in the nuts if you don't want them around.

Flashing the PIT file together with stock firmware (so re-partition checked then) is the best way to unbrick the i9000, very important for unbricking from all custom ROMs higher than 4.3
He has mentioned in the OP the PIT file, so people who read too fast or just briefly carry their own fault by not following the guide.
To check the re-partition without having chosen the PIT file will brick the device, of course.
You can send your phone to the service, they will unbrick it....
@machv5 I've gone back to GB from JB or KK countless times, which requires repartitioning, it's not possible to do without repartitioning, and I've never ended up bricking my phone once.
So if you've managed to brick 3 devices when doing this then you obviously haven't been learning this trade very well now, have you lol

[Q] Tmobile Galaxy S 2 not going beyon Boot screen

One fine day all of a sudden my SGH T989 ( Tmobile version of Galaxy S2) turned off and when I tried to turn it on it went in to the boot load loop and was not going beyond the Boot loaded screen which shows blue progress bar. Then I tried emergency firmware recovery option of the KIES but the progress bar on the recover dialog was getting stuck at 0 % for long time without any movement. Tried it multiple times by disabling the anti virus on my laptop , connected to different USB ports but same result. I couldn't get into the recover mode on my phone by pressing the Volume down+Power + Home button. The download mode option was also not working with by pressing both Volume Up+Down and Power button. But I could get in the Download mode by Pressing both volume up+down and then connecting the USB cable.
After KIES now the progress bar on boot load screen reaches almost 100% but after few seconds the screen turns completely black ( appears that the device is turned off) and it no longer goes in to the boot load loop.
After that I tried recovery thru ODIN by using the t898 Stock ROM, but it also doesn't work. It shows ABOOT on the first box on the screen and in the log it shows Nand Write Start !! and doesn't do anything beyond that point. I tried ODIN version 3.09, 3.07, 3.04 and 1.83 but same result every time.
Note: My phone is having Android version 4.1.2/ Software T989UVMC6 (Tmobile official Jelly Beans version) and is still factory locked.
Then I tried the CMW recovery file for T989 using ODIN 1.83 but no luck it get stuck at aboot.md and nothing happens.
I have latest version of KIES on my laptop.
While going thru some other post I read something about repartition but I couldn't find the proper instructions and PIT files for my phone.
Would appreciate guidance/advise to fix this issue.
My phone is out of warranty from both the carrier and Samsung. Samsung is asking to pay $70 for fixing the phone.
But I want to give it a try before sending it to samsung.

I'll try with ICS rom from the links provided by you but I doubt it will work. Do I need to repartition using PIT file. I read in few other threads that guys had same problem and after using the PIT they could fix their phone. I searched for PIT file for Tmobile Galaxy S 2 (T989) but couldn't find. I see that there a PIT file available with ODIN 1.85 which I downloaded, but am not sure if that is the correct one for my phone.
You can try, be careful, a lot of hard bricks come from trying to repartition. What windows do you use, and end Kies process if running.

I am using Windows 7. I checked in task manager and made sure no process that starts with the name KIES or has samsung in description is not running. Is there any specific service/process that I need to kill before starting the ODIN?
Any other thoughts, like if I need to disable the anti virus completely which might be restricting ODIN and KIES to write to the COM port?
I downloaded a utility for monitoring the serial port while ODIN was running but once I get the NAND Write Start !! I don't see any activity on the port.
I tried the PIT file that came along with ODIN 1.85 and T989 stock Rom together ( I kept the Re-Partition checked.), but again it got stuck at...
<ID:0/05> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/05> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Still same issue, no change in the Device status..

I tried the PIT file that came along with ODIN 1.85 and T989 stock Rom together ( I kept the Re-Partition checked.), but again it got stuck at...
<ID:0/05> Set PIT file..
<ID:0/05> DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!!
Still same issue, no change in the Device status..

pit files are related to the size of repartition, thats not what you need. if your phone will still go to download mode but will not boot, you should follow the guide i posted in the first reply , especially step 2, i have recovered many with that guide. sometimes i had to use gingerbread rom first to get files that were missing to upgrade.

I have already tried steps as per the guide but no luck. I can try gingerbread if the ROM is available. finding ICS rom itself was very difficult. Let me know if you have the link for Gingerbread ROM
So I tried the gingerbread and ICS roms as well. Also tried flashing the kernels and various versions of ODIN including 1.3,1.83,1.85,3.07,3.09 but same result. It get either stuck at Nand Write Start !! for ROM upgrade or Boot.img for Kernel flash.
Tried disabling McAfee's firewall and Active Protections, made sure none of the KIES services are running, tried stock ROMs for Gingerbread, ICS and JB.
Tried KIES as well as ODIN.
KIES get stuck at 0% in the Firmware update step after completing all the required file downloads, decryption etc.
Tried all 3 USB ports on my Laptop.
I can get into download mode only by holding Vol up+Down button and then connecting the USB cable.
Holding Vol up+ down and pressing the power button ( releasing on first vibration) doesn't work.
I couldn't get into the recovery mode by pressing the vol up and power button.
If I power ON the device it completes the boot load screen ( blue progress bar) and after few seconds the screen turns black. Pressing the power button again doesn't do anything.
Gone thru many thread but no luck so far.
Need help !!

There is no PIT partition. Odin problem

Ok guys, I'm trying to recover a note 2, the note2 was using like a normal day, but it reboot and doesnt pass the samsung logo, as usual, the first thing was a wipe from recover, so, when they did a wipe from recovery, it drop some errors, (I wasnt there so i dont know what kind of errors) and now, the phone doesnt even show the initial logo, Just a white screen. I can enter into download mode, but every time odin stop with a error There is no PIT partition.
The rom was stock 4.3, no rooted. In odin the information is:
Odin Mode
Product Name: GT-N7100
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Knox Warranty Void: 0
AP SWREV:
I think it show custom because i try to flash a custom recovery to see if I can do a wipe or install a custom rom, but still the There is no PIT partition.
So, i am thinking to flash a pit, but i only found http://d-h.st/Dlv and I dont know if its compatible with 4.3 roms. I cant use the recovery firmware because they are 4.1.2 and as far I know, i cant downgrade 4.3 to 4.1.2 because knox bootloader. Any Idea?
Or can I use that pit file with 4.3 rom?
Ok, I try with the PIT, in the first box where is the ID:COM it say Set Partition, in the status log it say Get PIT for mapping.. and nothing happens, is stuck. So even with a pit file i cant flash :/
I had this problem 2 times after installing aokp and cm 4.4.2 fw and tried to flash stock after. The solution was to flash with pit file, closed Internet, and older version of Odin, exactly Odin 3v1.87. The fw I flashed was 4.1.2 but I don't think you have problem with 4.3. Every other version of Odin was failing, 3.07, 3.0.9 all was stuck at partition.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk 2
Odin 1.87? ok, I only try 1.85, 3.07 and 3.09. And always fail the pit, i try with a z3x box and the same.
I will try, but later, I send it to a friend to try Jtag :/
Thanks for the advice, If they still dont do Jtag I will post back if it work
PD: Jtag was a good idea? :/ it will cost me like 50 dollars but my friend need his note urgent because he doesnt has other phone
I think is not necessary jtag, your phone seems ok, try before flashing to put the battery out for 3 minutes and check the processes at win task manager to don't run any kies process also close the Internet because odin communicates with Samsung server to check version etc. If you can't find 1.87 post to upload it.

If you have odin 1.87 give me the link please, that about odin communicate with samsung, i didnt now that. I will ask for the note2 on monday. Everything was working, and all of a sudden the problem start

If u r using windows 8, 8.1 check your drivers too.
Is this issue resolved and how??
Hi, just get today the note 2 again. I try with odin 1.87. It fails. They wasnt able to do jtag too (maybe they dont know how) So, I think is hardware problem :/ Everything is ok, no kies, no internet, still fail in repartition

Have you actually tried recovery firmware through kies?
I believe you should give it a chance if you haven't already, I know that it's not supposed to downgrade but it's called "recovery software" for a reason!
Also, maybe you should try to flash official kitkat 4.4.2 through Odin 3.09
Please report back
the problem is that everything say partition problem. example <ID:0/030> Re-Partition operation failed. I give the note back to my friend, I already give up. But I will tell him to try. If he do it, I will report back

I believe that the phone can be saved thorough kies recovery, I saved my Mega 6.3 that way, there was also re-partition problems!
Anyway, I hope you will figure it out!

I am sorry about this situation, in my tower which i have win 8.1 x64 enterprise I can't flash anything with odin and the reason are the drivers, connecting starting to flash and fail at last and if i remember well is giving different reason time to time. I am using a 5 years old laptop for flashing. In this post has newer 2014 sammy drivers, maybe you can give a try, also maybe try to flash it from another machine.
Generally the white screen is suspicious but if logo is ok means that recognize the emmc, I don't know what to say.

Post it without asking. You never know who might get helped.
Regarding PIT thing, I don't understand what somebody could have done in Recovery to destroy Partition Table?
Anyways, try flashing PIT with Full Firmware (generally 4 separate files).
Good luck !

[Q] Help! Can't Unbrick TMO Note 2. Please help.

Team, my wife has a Note II that is stock all the way. She never accepted the OTA update to 4.3 and has been running 4.1.2 perfectly since last year. Three days ago, when she powered the phone on, it said "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". The message said we had to go into Kies and try to recover. The phone will NOT enter stock recovery mode. It will go into download mode only.
I tried to use KIES, but Kies says the device version is not upgradeable. I took it to the store and they told me to come home and use Odin. So my wife decided since it couldn't be restored to her old phone we might as well update to 4.3 (booloader issues, I know !) I used Odin 3.07 using the MK7 version of 4.3 from last Dec, it took 10 minutes through modem, system etc. Then says FAIL. When I try to redo the Odin, it says PIT file missing or something like that.
Phone still won't work, and I have failed with Kies, local store, and Odin. I don't know what to do but she needs her phone. This phone bricked itself Sunday morning! Thank you in advance for any help. We don't need to buy a new phone. This one is only a year old.

Flashing stock MK7 via odin should not have any issues. Can you double check the file you downloaded is indeed MK7 ?
Is the phone on 4.3 bootloader ? If download mode shows KNOX then yes it is.
You can also try to restore the phone using KIES emergency and then flash MK7 via odin.

Thanks for the reply. Download mode shows shows the following:
Odin mode
Product Name :
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary : Samsung Official
System Status: Custom (BTW, this said Normal before my Odin attempt)
The word KNOX does not appear anywhere on the Download mode screen.
Kies syas the current firmware is not upgradable. The phone will not actually connect in Kies. I try Emergency restore and put in model and S/N but its says can't upgrade. Kies won't connect to phone in normal mode.
Thanks for any possible ideas you can come up with.

If you can get into recovery and do a factory reset (format data and cache) then reboot and see if that will work. Make certain the SDcard is out of the phone when you format.

The phone is still on 4.1.2 bootloader. I would advise to flash stock T889UVBMD1 from sammobile.

Or
If you want a rooted version you can flash MrRobinson's root 66 ROM.

Coug, thansk for the resposnse, but I can't get into recovery or just a boot up. Download (Odin) Mode is the only thing that is presently working.
Cipher, thank you also. Those are the two stock firmwares I have attempted. Nothing else.
I guess it may be hard-bricked, but I sure thought that was pretty rare.
Thanks again to you both for taking the time. If you have any more thoughts, I would sure be interested in hearing them. Thanks again.

Try giving the UVALJ1 root66 a try. I had a similar situation where I Odined that 2x and it reset my file system which had gotten corrupted. I was about to throw my hands up after flashing MB1 and another one as well. I figured that the original factory flash image would have the best chance of success.

Here is the PIT file I had posted when my phone was still on 4.1.2.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48398405&postcount=205
Download the attached file and make sure to change file extension from .txt to .pit.
Start ODIN, click PIT and browse to this pit file.
Make sure the Re-Partition box is checked.
Then under PDA load your T889UVBMD1 tar.md5 file and click start.

Thank you. That PIT file should be exactly what I am looking for, since that is the message I am getting now. Just one last question, please. Shoukld I do the PIT file and then the TAR file in two separate Odin events? Or could I put the PIT in the Pit line and the TAR in the Pda line, click the re-partition box and do it as one Odin reflash?
I may try the PIT first, then come back and do the TAR second after the phone has repartitioned. I can't thank you enough.

I will stay with Odin, I think. I have never used Heimdall, and am a little intimidated by trying something different. Of course I don't guess I can hurt the phone any further at this point ! haha.
Thanks again for everything. You have been a great help.
It's up to you, if you feel comfortable you can try with pit file first and then try the tar.md5 file. Glad to help, Ai hope the phone starts working again.

Cipher, I think I am almost there. However, when I start Odin using the PIT file you provided, I have checked repartition, then entered the renamed TXT file with a PIT e4xtension. Odin starts normally, then says "Get PIT for Mapping" but it never continues. It doesn't fail, but it doesn't continue either. At the top of the Odin screen, in the area where it describes the current step, Odin says SET PARTITION, but never continues on past that point. I get no progress bar on either the PC screen or on the cell phone download screen. I think we are right on the edge of having this thing fixed but I am not quite there. Any ideas? Please?

Hi,
Does ODIN detect the device ? Does the ID:COM tab turns blue ?
You can try another PIT file posted by another user from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52860121&postcount=39

Yes, Odin is detecting the device just fine. The blue COM light comes on and gives me the com port number. Then in the running description, its says Added! which I have always taken to mean that Odin has successfullly connected to the device.
I leave the two check marks checked that are alerady there, then I also check the Re-Partition box. I add the PIT file from earlier (renamed with a PIT extension of course) to the PIT line.
When I click Start, Odin starts normally, finds the right instruxction, and above the blu com box, where it would say PASS at the very end, it syas SET PARTITION. The task descriptions in the lower left says Getting PIT file, and then ODIN stays there.
That lasted over 2 hours. I will try the new PIT file and see what happens this time. Thanks for the continued help and support. I really feel like we are just one tiny issue from getting this phone restored, but I can't quite get over the hump. I will let you know how I fare with the new PIT> Thanks again.

Try without checking the re-partition checkbox and see if it works. It should not take more then few seconds if you are only uploading the pit file.

OK, when you select the PIT file using the Pit button, then Odin automatically checks the Re-Partition box. If you uncheck that box and try to proceed, I get the error message "No Binary is Selected." So it looks like I am kind of stuck. I have tried both of the PIT files. Both start normally, then get stuck (Permanently it appears) at the line "Get PIT for mapping.." I have tried just with the PIT only, and tried it with the ROM entered into the PDA button, and both give the same result.
I was very excited earlier today. I thought we (Really you) could save this phone. I feel like we are right on the edge, but the PIT load won't complete. Thanks for ideas.
