[Q] AOKP Contacts Q - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I just flashed the AOKP build 5 zip from the Goo Manager app, and I didn't bother to back anything up, because I'm just updating.
After I flashed it it saved all of my apps and data, except it erased all of my contacts.
Is there any way to recover them?

Did you nandroid?
Are your contacts not sync'd with Google, or stored to your sim?
Did you use a backup app?
If your answers are no then I'd have to say you're screwed.

Before I flash, I have a few questions

I am about to try some new roms using rom manager. What are the steps I need to take before I do this besides a nandroid backup. I heard most devs recommend you wipe data before installing a new rom, but how can i do this without losing my contacts and apps?
You have to wipe data before flashing roms, otherwise you'll have issues. Flashing various roms you'll need to backup your apps, and restore them, no real way around it.

So should I get something like titanium backup to back all my apps/contacts? Step by step would be very helpful if you don't mind
Your contacts will be there if you use Google. You'll need Titanium Backup to back up the apps you want. Once you do that, you can flash away.
Then you'll need to download titanium first, then restore only the app, and try to avoid app + data. Your contacts will show up once you log into your Google account, if you use Google.

See, I was under that impression that your contacts are backed up with google, but when i log on to my gmail account via pc, there aern't any contacts under the contacts tab. I also seen that i can export my contacts to my sd card. to be safe, would me exporting to the sd card and then restoring on the new rom work just as well?

Yeah, you should be ok. In Settings - Accounts and Sync for your google account, is Contacts selected to sync? You could make sure that the contacts you created aren't saved to your phone. I believe when you create a new contact, you have the option to save it to Phone or Google. Try creating a dummy new one to see if it syncs, and make sure it's a Google contact.

For contacts, I would export the list to your sd card. People app > menu > import/export.
EDIT: Fixed stupid typo.

[Q] Need tips on trying out different ROMS.

Hi there :3
I've been using (and loving) my GS2 for two month's now and not that I'm tired of Juggernaut ROM, I would just like to try out other ROMS and give them a test go.
Because wiping data is the best before using another ROM, I would like to know how other people do a recovery of their stuff? Such as history of Messaging / Call logs / Favorites / Numbers / Account Details and etc.
I'd be using Titanium Backup but I don't know if it recovers other than apps.
All tips would be helpful, please and thank you :3

Favorites, numbers and contacts are all synced with your Google account. Once you sign in, it auto restores all of that, assuming you have it synced. Call logs and SMS/mms can be restored using titanium backup. You restore the SMS dialer storage data only, not data+app. That should restore your SMS and MMS. There should be a similar named restore file for the call log. Another alternative I use in conjunction with that is an app on the market called SMS Backup+. It backs up all call logs and SMS/MMS to your Google account which can be restored as well - with the exception that MMS can't be restored. Hope that helps.

Also wanted to add that using titanium to restore those data requires aa reboot for them to show up.
Edit: you can only titanium restore call logs/SMS/mms between Twiz roms. Titanium restoring that data from Twiz to CM7 based will not work. SMS Backup+ will however.

If flashing the same base Android version or similar (i.e. 2.3.6), I just do a Nandroid backup prior to flashing the new ROM, and then doing an Advanced Restore data in CWR right after flashing. Clear cache and Dalvik and reboot. All your data is as you left it. Some people have reported issues with this but it's the first thing I try before messing around with Titanium.

how to get Tmobile contacts back?

Ok I rooted my phone, my next question is after I installed juggernaut all my tmobile contacts are gone. I need those back, how can I get them back?
They weren't synced to your gmail account?
since they arent showing up I assume they didnt sync...
If you've made a backup load that or load back gmail and sync..might be lost if you didn't backup or sync...
ok I am restoring my last image of the phone and going to sync my contacts then reroot and install juggernaut over again.

I always do a batch with Titanium Backup before changing roms. It saves all contacts, call logs, sms. I highly recommend doing that from now on.

Advance Data Restore After Upgrading To ICS

Am I the only one having an issue with a advance restore of data after upgrading to a ICS rom? How do I go about just restoring contacts, sms and other data without causing a boot loader problem.

Restore your GB backup and go to the playstore and download sms backup and call log backup apps. They work great and save everything in xml format. And you cant restore data from a GB rom to an ICS rom.
One easy way I always do to backup my contacts and sms is go into contacts, then select options and tap backup and backup to sd card.
Then factory restore/ install a new rom and then just restore your contacts from your sd card.
Hope I helped you out.
titanium backup will work in most cases. restore app first, and if you absolutely must, restore data for apps one at a time in case any apps dont play nice.
Thanks guys

For reference when the ROM has a different base, you should avoid advance restoring because well... Different base. You can usually restore user apps+data with back up apps though

Yes contacts sync through google
No, apps will not carry over between roms regardless of their location. Look into titanium backup or similar apps
Again, titanium backup. For one click restores, you'll need the pro version. Well worth it.

I'll update my Nexus from AOKP Milestone 4 to a JB rom (i'm choosing yet).
I know i'll have to wipe / data factory reset and my question is this :
I'll make a nandroid backup before the entire process, IF anyting goes wrong, when i restore the nandroind backup in clockwork, all my CONTACTS , SMS and CALL LOGS will be restored as well or i loose it because the wipe ?
Also, what application do you recommend to backup contacts / sms / call log ?
Thanks in advance

First question: yes. Call logs are also saved with a nandroid backup. When you restore from nandroid it is as if nothing ever happened.
Backup contacts ? As an android user you should have a Google account right ? If not synchronize your phone contacts with your Google account, like that you will never lose your contacts again, and after flashing a new ROM/doing a factory reset while you configure your phone just select the synchronize with my google account and all your contacts will be restored.
I've no idea how you can backup call logs. But to backup SMS's I can recommend "SMS Backup & restore" from the play store, a free and easy-to-use app.
I backup (and restore) SMS, MMS, and call logs with Titanium Backup. It works very well.

For backing up, you can't beat MyBackup Root!
