Lost some memory... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Currently on my device I show:
Total Space
28.13gb
apps
1.78gb
pictures
558mb
audio
220kb
downloads
1.07gb
available
12.62gb
Granted, my math sucks, but am I not missing a little bit of space? Only thing I can think of is my "old" cached Google Play Music, but I have done 2 wipes and installed 2 different ROMs and same thing. Any ideas on how to track this down?
fyi, I went to the supposed folder where Google keeps it's cached music and it was empty.

I show about the same difference, but storage isn't picking up about 9gigs of app data i knowi have. In my case it's 9gigs of offline topo maps i keep. I'll bet its the same with you

Use this app to find more detail into where youre loosing data

[Q] Low disk space, all apps are on SD

I keep getting the low disk space notification, usually after clearing maps data it goes away, but it is quite annoying as Android stops accepting texts when the disk is full. I have moved ALL apps to my SD card but still the problem persists. I am guessing there is some stray data in my system but haven't been able to pin down it's location. I've also looked around in my apps list for apps that use lots of storage space but all of them use 500kb at most (except for Maps and sometimes browser).
I currently have around 40 user apps installed on my SD card and I have 10mb space left on my phone, while I've read others have 100+ apps installed and have no problems. I'm running OpenDesire.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

What should we do to prepare for SD card to Cloud storage?

As it seems that the Us is going to have the nexus this Thursday, what are the exact steps for transferring SD card storage to the Cloud and the actual phone? What is best to store where?
I have music, documents, photos, various roms, apps, and corresponding data to the apps. Currently I have 8g included with my Droid X and a 32g SD card.
I still have space left, but I would rather have everything ready for the transition.
What are the steps that you recommend? Also which cloud for backups and how do you go about it? Is it a google cloud, carrier, or Samsung? How much space do we get? Are they charging for space? Does it back up the same kind of data as an SD card?
The only thing I know is that you don't have access in the subway, plane, or anywhere without a data/wifi connection. Has this been a problem for anyone?

Quoto, i recive my Galaxy Nexus tomorrow, and i want to prepare all my files/data to the cloud, to use the minor space possible of the 16GB.
What are the best services in each camp??
For music, Google Music (I've uploaded my song library yet), but for others?
Google Docs and Picasa work quite well I find. You could store your more frequently used info on device, and the rest is cloud'ed.
Im not yet sure what is best for music and videos.
Photos: I use both picasa and photobucket
music: google music, best hands down
anything else: dropbox and box.net, I use both.

almost same as above
except i only use picasa
and for documents i use Google Office (google docs)
i also have Minus, CX, and tons of other free web storage accounts with 10+ GB on each...
the only problem is.... 3G/4G speed sucks, and it's a PITA to sync anything
your best bet is a good WiFi hotspot, or be near a non congested 3G tower
...in other words, the cloud thing is not as sweet dream as they paint it to be
Yes, 3G/3.5G networks in Italy are horribles :-(
I also use Plex for movies and TV. Best app ever... has an audio/video studder with ICS right now, but it will be fixed in a couple days...

Why is everyone so fascinated with Google Music?

Every thread I read about the Galaxy Nexus not having enough storage space has the same king of replies: "Just use Google Music", "You can stream from the cloud", "Google limited the space on purpose because they want you to use Google Music", etc..
Why go through the tedious process of uploading a limited selection of songs to Google Music and keep updating it when with apps like Gmote, you can have access terabytes of music directly from your PC!
All it takes is installing the app on your phone, the server on your PC and forwarding one port to your PC and you're done.
For movies I setup an FTP on my PC and forwarded that port through my router. With ES File Explorer you can access it and stream any movie from your hard drive directly to your phone (not recommended through 3G though! ). MXPlayer for mkv, h264, etc playback works perfectly with SW acceleration!
Edit: Corrected. It's 20,000 songs not 5GB
5GB? You can have up to 20,000 songs on Google Music.
And I recommend it because its seamless and awesome. And doesn't take up space on the phone lol.

Ah, thought it was 5GB. 20,000 songs is plenty but you still have to upload those to "the cloud" versus just leaving them on your PC. Plus it's not officially available to anyone outside the US yet.

You just upload em once. In the background over time. And every time you get something new its uploaded automatically.
Not to mention that Google Music can be accessed from any web browser, where you can listen and manage everything
Most people don't know how to do what you describe..
but what happens if you have all this music in the cloud, and you have no reception/data to stream???
I still rather have space on the phone!

It auto-caches your most-played music. You can also manually pin (cache) artists/albums/playlists if you know you'll be out of service
If you delete a song on Google Music, it doesn't delete it on your computer. Vice versa. Sucky management, eh?
Data caps will make me think twice when wanting to listen to music. Who wants to feel limited in that way?
What if I don't have reception?
This is how I use Google Music
1. I used the Google Music app on my computer to upload everything to the cloud. When I add new songs, they'll be uploaded automatically, or when I buy something on the phone, they will be downloaded to my computer.
2. I "pinned" all my music to my phone over wi-fi one night. It's easy to do in the app on the phone. You just select the albums or artists from the "Make Available Offline" screen and they'll download over wi-fi. There is also an option to do it over the cellular network which would be good for an album or two but might eat through your data if you're not unlimited. This means none of my music needs to stream to play on my phone. It's all cached locally. I take the subway to work every day and don't have reception all the way. This also syncs all your playlists in Google Music!
I now have my music on my computer, phone, and anywhere I want from the cloud, and I don't have to have a signal at all to listen.
If I ever get low on space on my phone because I've cached all my music, I can just untick the checkmark and it won't be locally stored anymore, but it's still in the cloud and on my computer. It's easy to pin or un-pin music from the phone.
I used to manage everything manually over USB on my Nexus One. I didn't understand how Google Music could help me, but it finally clicked on how I could use it to work for me easily.

I have about 30GB of music in Google Music lol you're not limited at all. I think that's somewhere around 5,500 songs...so I have *plenty* of room to grow.
7100 songs/45Gb here, GMusic rules!
It's only available in the United States? Darn... time to get a VPN set up? Haha. This is the same problem I have with Google Voice.
All of these wonderful things to be using but are unable to due to location. Why must we be so behind in Australia?!
1: Because people want to access their music from more places than just at home.
2: Google music is easier to use and set up than setting up your own music server, vpn, etc
3. Not everyone has a music server or wants to set one up
"Why buy a car from Toyota if you can just buy the parts and built it yourself?!"
have to say GMusic rox! anywhere in the world, my music at the press of a button!
My Google Music account has about 12,500 songs in it, which is about 90GB worth. For a free service, that's amazing. Also, it let me download/pin music while I was vacationing in Italy, so it's not totally US only.
Out of the US
There is a trick to sign up for Google music if you are outside of the US. Just install an application called, HotShield and then sign up. This way, your IP is recognized as coming from the US.
Anyways, the idea of using Google music is to store your music on the cloud so you can play all your music from your phone, computer, friend's computer and so on without storing your music locally on your computer.
I have a problem when I tried to play one of the song from Google music. I can see the progress bar of the music playing but I don't hear the song. Does anyone have the solution?
Meh, I'll eat up anything Google releases. I love it all /fanboyism

lmao that whole thing about the cache/pinning is basically having the songs ON your phone .. which is the counterargument here XD yeah we can put our songs onto the phone too, but we need to use a usb cable but its 10x faster than wirelessly lol
not that im against GMusic lol, i just hate that it eats up my data like crazy and i cant listen to **** if theres not a clear signal lol. However I find the equalizer on the app pretty good, is in fair competition with PowerAmp believe it or not... some songs sound better on Gmusic; and yes i am pretty good with the EQ so thats not it.

2gb data in 1 day? Please help

I rarely use more than 4gb in a month, and my data resets on the 4th.
I deleted alot of apps on the 4th but I dont remember what all I deleted. I checked my data usage today and was shocked at what I saw. Using MyATT it shows usage being close to the same.
My question is there anyway to figure out what app or apps used nearly 2gb of data in 1 day?
I didnt download any large files or tether or anything. Just xda browsing and surfing the net. Ive attached last months data usage to give you an idea of how I use data. As well as a screenshot of the MyATT app and my data usage for this month so far.
Thanks for any help or ideas

If you scroll down in Data Usage, it should tell you the amount of data your apps are using. If you tap on each app, it will show you how much of the data it uses is being used in the foreground or background.
If you look in the pic, it says removed apps used 1.85gb
Im trying to figure out if I can see what apps used so much data

Removed Apps is all the apps you uninstalled. It compiled it as one and added up all the total data usage of the uninstalled apps prior to being installed.
You can go to Google Play's website and look under "Other apps in my library" to see all the apps you have on your account, even if you uninstalled them from your phone.
Of course, it won't tell you which app used how much data since it's no longer on your phone, but knowing which apps you had uninstalled should give you an idea how much data they would use. For example, if you had uninstalled a torrent app, it would certainly be the culprit. Apps that also constantly sync with a server, such as weather apps/widgets and streaming video/music apps, would also be likely culprits. It's also possible most, if not all, of the apps you uninstalled combined would have been the culprit since they may have automatically updated or synced to a server in the background a few times.
Unfortunately, it doesn't keep that kind of detail for uninstalled apps. But looking at "Other apps in my library" in Google Play's website would at least give you a general idea.
Thanks everyone for the help. Im thinking it was the free talking caller id app. That is the only app that ive had other problems with.

Did you delete the cache of the Samsung Gallery app? I noticed 438mb data usage the first day I got the phone from the gallery app syncing all my Facebook and picasa albums. My coworker had the same thing.

Just the answer i was looking for. THANK YOU. I was going to post why i have over 1/2 a GB on removed apps.
For future reference, there is an app called "my data manager" that will monitor all this for you and break it down into easy to read charts to show you where your data goes each month. It will also show projected use and daily allocations to keep it within your cap.

+1 on this. Have it running on every mobile on my plan (5). Great way to track usage.
Sent from somewhere in the Kessel system using JediX 6.1.2 on an AT&T Galaxy Note 2 and Tapatalk.
Im having the same issue with att it seems the data counter doesnt reset properly.
My bill resets on the 17th but on the 18 of this month I had already used 5 gb according to dialing *3283#. But when I check on the att website through my lap top it shows the correct amount 400mb.
Might want to give it a try and see.
It's done that for the past 2 months.
I called ATT and they said since I dowloaded a large game the night before my data flipped to zero I shows on next months data usage which is BS.
I've had ATT since 2008 and I would always get zeroed out at the start of my bill no matter how much data I use the day before it's supposed to start at 0mb.

[Q] Crazy data usage and internal storage space usage

Hello, yesterday i installed cm9 on my wildfire s, and today i got two messages on it, one saying that i have been using alot of data, where i can see that google play store, has been using 4 GB of data! i find this really wierd as i have only downloaded 3 apps, any ideas on why this has happened?!
the other message was that i have almost used all of my internal storage space even though i have only downloaded these 3 apps, it says that i have used 120 MB, this sounds pretty unrealistic as the apps i have downloaded is only facebook and such, any help there ?
i have tried searching on the forum and on google but i weren't able to find anything like this... :/
thanks
