i did saw some gameplay and reveiws of new games
runing on hox with alot of frame rate issu's or heavy lags
i did order the new x+ ver and not the nx4
its on shipping right now...
i realy hope i did no worng to get the htc x+ insted of the nx4
my most reason of theis pruches was to play games with good fps and new games...
i have iphone 4s before that
what do u say guys? the hox+ will make the job in games?
or better to refound it and get then nx4 for gaming?
camera and storge ect dosnt realy the things im looking for in my phone... only the games for my free time in work,,,,
If you want to play games android it's not for you, hox+ is just an slightly oc hox so you will still get great graphic/ performance with thd but all other games or not optimized and they tend to have mediocre if not bad fps, nexus 4 will be a much better choise even if it hasn't got thd games. Id suggest you an iPhone 5 if the only thing you need is gaming.

If you root your phone(but with that you will lose your warranty) and go for custom rom/kernel.. then yes, the phone will be good for gaming as it have some really good thd games+the other not so optimized games will run fine(tho some of them will required modding, etc... :/). The problem is not the raw power of the tegra chip, the problem is that the devs aren't otimizing their games for it.

and my other question is ...
let say i get in need for speed most wanted (for normal andrid) 15-23 fps in HOX
how much i will get +- with the hox+ 17-25 fps ? 20-28 fps?
and with tegra support game that getting 30-35fps on HOX
how much fps i will get with the HOX +

The gain will be around 6fps, trust me if you don't mod 90% of the games will lag cause our governor doesn't call the quad often, and right know tegra is on his limit and won't handle the next gen games.

Probably yes on mostly of the games but don't expect too much even if the nexus 4 gpu is 2/3 times better then the hox one games still lacks optimization compared to ios.

I have played the free version of Fruit Ninja THD and it is a little laggy sometimes. Is there anyone with the same problem? Maybe a solution?
I also played reckless racing 2, and the tar looks very very bad. I have uploaded the screenshot of reckless racing 2 to dropbox. The link http://dl.dropbox.com/u/78880032/Screenshot_2012-05-24-16-38-20.png
I know this sound stupid but on an ipod touch the graphics look better for Reckless racing 2 and Fruit ninja plays much smoother. Is this normal for a quad core beast?

I'm running on Leedroid v6.00, with build number 1.29.401.7.
In one word, optimization.
Developers of these games didn't care enough (or weren't paid enough) to bother optimizing it for Tegra GPU.
Install Shadowgun on your HOX and let iPhoneys weep in tears of amazement.
PS: Ever tried installing an HD texture pack in Minecraft, along with a bunch of mods? It will lag like CRAZY, I'm talking around 25-30 fps. That's with i7 @ 3.2GHz and double gtx570. Engine just isn't using the hardware to its full potential (or ANY potential). Slow, inefficient drawing procedures, zero usage of actual GPU acceleration, most likely making CPU do all the work.
Shadowgun doesn't run that great on my One X and its pretty much nearly stock since I bought it.

Shadowgun doesn't run so great??? Have you tried Shadowgun THD??? It's graphics are equal to the iPad 3! And the performance is superb, greatly optimized for Tegra3 devices and especially HOX. Go and try it! And my HOX is stock too! I've downloaded many games till now, and none were laggy.
Tegra GPU is overhyped, but it isn't the GPU performance, its the CPU scaling from the 4 cores at a low 'Mhz', put it to dual-core and it should run smoother.

I don't know if it's "over-hyped" or not, but in my case, it sure as hell does far more than its job in every situation...
wrong the dual core trick is no good for quad games like shadowgun thd
all you have to do is root, download system tuner and switch to interactive governor when u game, the problem is the stock on-demand giv is tweaked fro battery saving
performance gov is also no good for quad optimized games eitherer, since it locks o dual core mode
with supercharger and interactive shadowngun thd is smooth like butter for me, s4
e2 is running pretty awesome too

+1 absolutely my experience as well.
If not enough you can try performance governor (locked dual core 1.4 no scaling)
Thanks eventually got fruit ninja to play smooth. Used the performance governor with supercharger. Playing smoother than an idevice for me.

Honestly. Should we be having to do such tweaks for a phone that is being marketed as the best gaming experience on a smartphone (see HTC keynote at E3)
The "new" iPad is marketed as a gaming device and I've not had to be tweaking anything or other to get my games smooth etc.
HTC must get their act together.

Yes you can. The performance governor is only for games which do not use all 4 cores. See which governor works best for you. The best governors for games is interactive and performance(Hamdir). You can switch back to ondemand when you're finished gaming. Also you might want to use supercharger/"development settings trick" to make sure only the game is running.

yes and no its not just HTC fault
to be honest i always had to do this governor switch with all my old android devices
i think its android fault + manufacturer fault + app developer fault (for not requesting full performance)
for example glowball immediately requests full performance quad mode without any tweaking
thanks for the quick response... what's this supercharger/"development settings trick"? how to do it?

Shadowgun runs great on mine. The SOC is a good one for gaming. MC3 is oddly incompatible, probably an error on the part of Gameloft. I own GTA 3 but I haven't played it yet, when I give it a whirl I'll share my thoughts on its performance.

Solution for some games
For gta iii you need to set the screen sleep timer to maximum (30 min in my case but I run costum rom) point is, when the game downloads the extra files it needs it's very important that the phone won't go into sleep mode. If it downloads only a part of the files it will, strangely, still run, but crash after a while
Hope that helps

Almost all game are smooth but when I was choosing this fone I loved the screen DPI. I have used sola as well to but overall I say this fone is gr8 in screen battery backup and also sound quality in which sola sucks and Samsung also. And sola comes with 2.3.7 one v comes with 4.0 ics .

Hey guys,
I wonder if the so called gaming SoC will get any better in terms of gaming performance with further updates from HTC. At the moment the games run barely as good as on my SGS2. I know..the resolution of the HOX is twice as high but the games graphics ar getting better and I cant even play NOVA 3 with my 'gaming device'... There is a way to make it a bit less laggy with new Base and franco kernel but it's still far away from beeing smooth. What I want to ask you is: Is there still potential for tegra 3 to run those games smooth and it's just a matter of time till an update comes that improves the framerates or is it just hardware limited? Are there other Tegra 3 devices which can run these games without any issues? I'm hoping that the 3.* kernel will improve something but actually I have no clue.
well u have to look at this from the point of view of the game/software/hardware
the one game u mentioned is not HOX compatible,
it's been force run on the device.... so as far as this go..... you'll need to wait for the game to be T3 optimized
software optimizations are still underway from both xda devs and htc.... and as u see they are getting better by the day
and finally not much to say about the hardware but... its more than capable just give it time.

Sorry about the humor title, i made this thread to stop arguing in the productive kernel development threads, so please vote here!
Did you chose your Tegra 3 One X for it's gaming brute force, games that Tegra 3 was designed for like HORN, Shadowgun THD and Dead trigger, games that Nvidia aggressively pursue, like they ported unreal engine 3 and keep pushing for the usage of quad core in games, this kind of console like gaming requires the maximum out of your CPU
This is why we are endlessly trying to squeeze T3 to it's limits, we found the optimal CPU governor settings in the gaming scripts and renovate gaming boost app and pushed top kernel devs like Faux to remove the single core step which was confusing and causing lag in multicore able games
Tegra3 in its full speed on the One X will give you around 2.5 hours of non stop gaming screen on time, the good news the boost mode is easily switchable by using the renovate gaming boost app and this way you can gain more of your battery during normal use
Or non of this matter and you prefer development efforts to focus on extracting the maximum screen on battery time, even at the expense of hindering the power of this thing, you are okay with it even if it means breaking the quad core ability in the Tegra3, like in the Nvidia Glowball tech-demo (any tweaking to the quad balance will cause lag in this app, the same for many Tegra THD games )
Gladiators, begin!
I couldn't care less about 3d games on my mobile. What I want is a sleek interface, no stutter when browsing through websites or menus and a "decent" battery life. And, the customisation options of Android.
I don't think playing 3d games on phones is feasible yet. Battery life is too much of an issue and the phone (and internet) abilities of mobile phonesbis of far superior importance to entertainment for most users.
PS: It annoys me so much that theoretically very simplistic games like xxx with friends use so much energy, though. I wish they were properly coded.

I bought a ferrari for save fuel...
The battery life is enough for me I can easily do 4.30h with 70% brightness if I don't play anything or around 3h if u play for around 1h, if you wanted a more power efficient phone there's the razr maxx or even the one xl/at&t version , there's also a lot of very small portable batteries with 3000mah for a very cheap price.... So I don't really get why people want 6h on screen, you will never use the phone for all this time if you're outside.

exactly especially since the phone drains almost zero when the screen is off even with all the data connections
i mean you have crazy amount of screen off time and screen on is based on your usage
pretty damn sweet deal if you ask me
but some people are asking for kernel development like the old days, where you try to control and subdue the device performance for the sake of more battery
Tegra 3 is not like those old devices, and this logic doesn't apply, for three reasons:
1- Its a quad core, don't get a quad superphone for your emergency use!
2- no point in doing anything about screen off life, Tegra 3 has it all solved and built-in thanks to the fifth Low Power core
3- you can't customize or create your own CPU governor, Tegra 3 is very unorthodox when it comes to it's CPU control, any attempt to change CPU control ends in breaking the main quad functionally, even clock speed control is very hard to do
In other words those asking for kernel development to "tam" the quad are actually asking the kernel developer to break Tegra 3, you are better off disabling cores using a core control app or reducing clock speed using userspace governor
and finally
the main battery consumer is the screen, you gain a lot more screen time by reducing brightness than by killing Tegra 3
and those voting for i don't mind balance between the two
do you cry if Nova3 runs laggy on your One X?
Lol i really dont mind how long the battery lasts as i carry my charger anywhere! I love ragging the F**K outta it for gaming! :silly:

If I really wanted to and had the time to focus on playing games I would have bought a PS Vita or something. Would have been better (since its also a game pad) and much cheaper too.

This phone is much more then a cpu..
It's a beautiful screen..
A lovely camera
Somewhat mediocre but comparatively good music
Awesome build quality
And superb speed and power
So the phone is not just for gaming, it's d best camera phone with authentic sound, screen..
Thus only seeing gaming part of it isnt fair.

And before u say I should have bought one xl then it is not available in my country and I wanted to upgrade from my sgs2 so dual core»quad core should be..

how r we killing it?
with the very maximum and most technically advanced game around (Horn, unreal engine 3), with full CPU boost and the fastest kernel, battery heat around 50c and you get 2.5 hours of screen on time with brightness @25%
i doubt any vita will do better, i know iPhone 4s can die in two hours on infinity blade!
now if you don't push it, it won't spend it very simple equation!

OT OT OT, Out!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
With HD screen and a bit weak GPU some games don't run as smooth as they could on Xperia S. Is it possible to reduce resolution on 800x480 (not the actual screen but game itself) so it would run better?
Of course it would not look sharp as it could but it would increase performance and maybe lower device heating and battery usage.
Thanks in advance!
if small apps work I wouldnt see why normal apps wouldnt but might be hard to do.

The dual-core processor seems to be too slow to run games smoothly.

I don't know which game are you talking about but I can play any game with 0 lag. And as the above guy has said, even on my mini I could play any game quite smoothly.
BTW, wrong section.

No you cant change the resolution. And i dont see any problem playing any game with my Xperia S. Maybe you got too much apps running.
I am using SlimBean and when I play game called Vector it runs too slow OC helped a little bit but still way too slow.
Rather weird considering that Vector is 2D game (parkour).
I have plenty of RAM and other apps run smoothly. I don't play anything else.
So that's a problem related to the game, it migh not handle good the resources. But reduce the resolution could be great for decrease the battery usage.

I have played the same game on OpenSEMC, and it had the lag you're mentioning. I think it has something to do with the fact that the phone has to process two "ragdolls" (the protagonist and its chaser). When, by means of power ups, you manage to get rid of the chaser for a while, the game runs considerably faster.
So, conclution is that Vector has some not-so-good optimized CPU usage and its physics engine requires some serious power (I9300 runs this game perfectly).
Thank you for your answers folks, still though it is shame that it is not possible to lower resolution, even just for the sake of lower battery consumption and/or less heating.
