[Q] T-Mobile Roms, International Roms or AT&T Roms - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

There is people on AT&T forum that have been using T-Mobile and International roms on their devices with just few mods here and there. I am wondering if this is possible in our devices, anybody know or had tried??
Anyways, check out this link below...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001867 [Q]%20T-Mobile%20Roms%20or%20International%20Roms

they are on GSM networks, we are on CDMA. it can be done but there are some major differences in some system files and libs because of this. the mount points in the installer scripts would have to be changed as well.
they can swap between, att, tmobile and international versions because they are all GSM networks. should be fairly simple to port over a Verizon GN2 ROM though.

Indeed. I'm a U.S. Cellular user (CDMA) and I'm using your ROMs on my phone. With a few simple mods it works great. When it comes to their ROMs if you flash your kernel (boot.img) over the ROM after installing it will boot up. Stock touchwiz ROMs only of course. You won't have service until you modify some things Get in there and play around. Maybe you can make it work

Suggestion: Merge GT-N7105/SGH-T889/SGH-I317 Development Subforums

Based on my reading and testing it seems the GSM LTE variant Note 2 ROMs are cross-compatible with the exception of the radio. That is, flashing of SGH-T889, SGH-I317 and GT-N7105 ROMs among one another works perfectly as long as you have the proper radio flashed as well.
I propose that the SGH-I317 and SGH-T889 Development forums cross-link to the GT-N7105 development forum, much as the Accessories forums of all Note 2 variants link to the N7100/N7105 Accessories forum.
In order to avoid potential confusion, developers could tag their threads as [N7105], [I317], and [T889] to designate the device the build was developed for and tested on. Users would then also know whether or not they would have to flash their respective radios after installation.
This will foster greatly expanded and accelerated development for the GSM LTE Note 2 variants. Developers will benefit from the inherent similarities of these devices (as they are more similar than different) and users would have greater variety.

So you are saying you can run a custom rom from a t889 on a i317 and just flash the modem with whatever flavor you are using...So I can use a i317 with a t889 rom and flash a t889 modem on it and put my tmobile sim in the thing and all will be good right?
Looking for more feedback and confirmation on this as well!
Update, I flashed the i317 pacman rom on my t889v wind mobile and its working great
In most situations, the ROM's zip file won't even contain a modem file in the first place, so you don't need to flash any radio afterwards. Maybe RIL files or carrier-specific CSC settings on TW ROMs, but that's another matter altogether, and not something that would typically preclude your phone from working if you skipped it.
In the T889V's specific case: do not flash any modems in any circumstances unless you are ready to deal with the consequences. My thinking is that there's a bug somewhere that leads to NV item corruption instead of just plain bootloops like on other variants.

Thanks for the response. By modem I assume you mean modems other than ones designed for my variant? I flashed the latest Wind Mobile modem from 2013 as I had the one prior to that.
Everything seems to be working fine, so I am happy. I was just apprehensive about flashing a rom designed for another phone as I do not fully understand what each contains, and if it would conflict with my phone.

Yes. Although in some cases, even reflashing the original T889VVLALJ4 over itself lead to problems, but that's a moot point since you're running T889VVLBMA3 already.
As for as the zip's contents, you can see for yourself by checking the files themselves and the updater-script file. And of course by checking out a given ROM's thread.
Back to the original topic, I'd be okay with the proposed merger.
Is this still up for consideration? Ever since getting the T889, it has only been hinted that there may be some compatibility. Merging the forums where proper would make it clear what will work and what won't.
I have a big question
Hello everybody, can I use the ROM of a GT-N7105 in the SGH-T889?
I need a stable rom for my Note 2 SGH T-889 form T-mobile

[Q] T0lte or n7100

Hello everyone, im looking to install cyanogenmod on my note 2 from wind mobile in canada (i think it uses AWS) and i cannot for the life of me target a custom rom compatible with my phone (or i have no idea were to look) under cyanogenmod there are 2 catagories relevant to my phone i believe in there wiki. T0lte and n7100. How can i figure out what one to use? (i hope cyanogenmod is the way to go, im looking for a slimmer rom to save some battery, no need for samsung kies, air play or whatever etc.)
Not n7100

so definately T0lte? i really dont want to mess up my radios, as from the drama ive seen from other Canadian users it can be complete hell trying to resore them.

tolte, never n7100
Even though LTE is disabled out-of-the-box on the T889V (and was on the T889 prior to the update) its very much an "LTE" Note 2 device. Cyanogenmod and other custom ROMs typically flash only the /system partition, and possibly the kernel (and ramdisk, both included in boot.img to the specific). They shouldn't in most circumstances touch the modem partition that's behind the issues you're dreading.
To be on the safe side, make proper backups in both QPST and CDMA Workshop formats.
N7100 is nice and I got better battery life out of it than the TMO one. N7100 is only good on ATT Networks and will never have LTE. So the TMO Note2 is best.

[Q] Just purchased a AT&T S3 to use on T-Mobile - Rooting and Rom Questions

As the title states, I just picked up a AT&T galaxy S3. I am looking to use it on T-Mobile. Coming from a galaxy S1, the unlocking procedure is a bit different. It also seems that roms are fairly brand specific, so I assume I should be looking for i747 roms. There are so many options out there, could anyone point me in the right direction to get this phone up and running? Are there any special considerations I should be taking since I am using an AT&T phone on T-Mobile?

Before you do anything, if you want to unlock you phone so you can use it on another network go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033225&highlight=sim+unlock
You will probably need to change the apn numbers to match t-mobile which is easy.... as far as roms go, you should do some searching for t-moible roms in the development thread. Also not being familiar with AT&T and T-mobile you should check to see if they use the same band and also check which modem (radio) you need... I am sure there have been lots of people that have done this arleady.... search search search at least you asked the question before you started not after you had a wreck
Thanks for the link. I did the unlock procedure, haven't tested it yet since I still need to cut down my SIM card.
I also went through and did the CF-Root procedure with ODIN. So theoretically the phone should be ready to flash a custom rom.
I was under the impression that I should be looking at i747 roms instead of the T-mobile version (i999?) since my device is originally AT&T branded. You are saying this is not the case? Basically I should look at roms in the T-Mobile section? It might not matter anyway since some popular roms run on both.
UPDATE:
I installed Stockorama V2 on the phone and it is up and running on t-mobile. It is a multi-carrier rom, but I used the AT&T options when installing. Would I have better luck installing it as T-Mobile? Basically, can I install a T999 rom/kernel on a i747?

[Q] unlocked Samsung Galaxy SIII on AT&T network

Hi,
I have SIM unlocked, rooted Tmobile's samsung Galaxy SIII (SGH-T999); put AT&T SIM card and it is working fine. As a fundamental question on loading custom ROMs, should I be picking ROMs from AT&T forum in XDA or Tmobile in XDA??? So far I have been using Avatar/Liquid Smooth ROM built for Tmobile....still it doesnt make sense to me as i am currently on AT&T....I dont want to brick my phone by doing something wrong.
Can someone reply?
Thanks
Mahesh
BTW - ignore my signature....i am unable to edit them - dont know why - there is no option to edit signature!

You should flash rom's specific to your phones hardware/model number. It seems to me *most* of the hardware is the same between the i747 and t999 from what i've read but always best to err on the side of caution.

by doing that, in my case, would my ROM be optimized for AT&T??

Most likely, but tread with caution. The only issue you might encounter are APN settings that you could always edit manually. From what I understand, the T-Mobile Galaxy S3 is almost identical to the AT&T one, and in certain cases, some people have been able to run T-Mobile roms on the AT&T one.

The only thing that is carrier specific as far as custom ROM's are concerned is the ability to connect to the network in question, its the hardware the ROM is designed for that is important, minus any carrier bloat apps that may be included in a ROM (non issue if using an AOSP based ROM). Flashing software to an unintended device will most likely be bad news. As drx said worst case you would have to manually enter the apn settings. If i recall the only real difference in the TMo and ATT S3's is the fact that the T999 can connect to the 1700mhz band and the i737 can't (natively).

After a successful permanent UNLOCK

I Have successfully unlocked my t mobile edge+ for any GSM carrier. My questions is now that i have no restraints (Rooted/Unlocked) can i use any rom now. I know the CDMA versions verizon/sprint are off limit but other GSM versions? Or am I still burdened by the G928T model forever??
I have an ATT Edge+ that I use with T-mobile without wifi calling, looking for the same answer but apparently are some hardware differences that won't let you use ROMs from other versions of the phone.
You can use the international roms for the edge + just make sure when you click on them look for the rom that's compatible with the T model, you could also use the T mobile note 5 too

Umm you didnt need to do the carrier unlock to flash any "GSM ROM," only an unlocked bootloader was needed...
I am interested in knowing, which of these "GSM ROMs" were you looking forward to flashing, now that you're no longer hitched?
