You need to go into CWM and flash whatever other rom you want thru there

OTA vs. flashing updates

Is there any reason to flash an update through a .zip instead of updating OTA?

You don't just ask to move it. From a browser click the report thread button and kindly tell a moderator that you made a mistake.

As with most things Android, I think it is just personal preference (and time). I know the scripts are becoming more advanced but I like flashing zip files...it sort of brings back the excitement of the first few flashes and satisfies that craving to flash something new lol
Manually flashing has less room for error as you perform all the wipes manually. Scripts aren't perfect, but I guess I haven't had any issues with it thus far.

[Q] AOKP Build 40 Download?

I've gone to teh AOKP site but nothing is there. Just says read on about this build....
Link: I<I would post the link to the aokp build but new users can't>
Anyone able to help me find this?
Also, I've hear Rom Manager is unsafe to use for Rom Flashing so what about Rom Toolbox Pro?
I still have not installed my first Rom and I just want it to go well.
Also if anyone can point me to any other files needed for Build 40 AOKP I'd be greatful.
Cheers.
Make sure to read up before flashing a ROM. Make sure it is for your device.
If you have a sprint SGS3 go to original dev section and look for AKOP.

Ok I found the AOKP thread. I am not sure how to fully go about this. Is there a firmware I need for this? Also, could someone explain firmware to me as in do you need it for Roms? Do firmwares just change speed? What is their purpose?

Don't mean to sound like an a-hole but do a little search.

Kernels for stock rom

I was wondering if there were some kernels that were compatible with the stock rom. If there are could you list some popular ones? I've tried to research but couldnt find anything. Guess i suck at searching.........
Go the original development sections and look for threads labeled kernel and read their OPs to see if they are compatible with touchwiz (stock.) Flashing a kernel requires being root also.
Aside from root access, you will also need a custom recovery.
I sugest the KT kernel is has a nifty app that gives you a lot of tweaks

+1 to ktoonz kernels for being user friendly.
If your going to flash anything always follow the steps to not brick your device.
Always make a backup whether you use cwm, or tw always boot into it and backup and then your not stuck with something you don't want and you can magically go back on time to your stock ROM.
I personally think if your going to bother changing kernels its almost as easy as changing ROMs. Either way you will have to root and that's more of a hassle than flashing a ROM.
Goodluck.
Pin it to Win it.

Sorry to play ya down as being a noob but you gotta assume the worst sometimes...
Im getting some extreme batterylife/speed with thebfaux 17m kernel for my touchwiz based rom... defiantly worth looking at if you are oc/uv savvy

Android wont start up!

I was on fk23 and i tried to flash back to kernel fl24 so i could do the OTA update for gb27 but after i flashed back, it wil only go to the gs2 screen and then turns off. however i can get into the maual menu and download mode. What steps should i now take. Please provide links if possible to help.
First you posted in the wrong section, questions go in Q&A Help and Truobleshooting section.
You cannot flash an ICS kernel to a JB rom OS.your going to have to do a one click non rooted restore to FL24 in order to get up and running so you can update to GB27. Go here and follow directions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2211891

Help Regarding flashing Modem/Kernel

Hello,
Can someone help me out regarding flashing. I have spent my last 1 hour reading the tutorials and modems etc.
I am fairly new here and I wouldn't want to take risk of bricking my device.
Please kindly suggest me the package I need to install.
I am currently on OFFICIAL 4.1.2 (Sprint).
Please let me know which Modem/Kernel/Recovery should I install? I want to install Packman ROM
Thanks!
You need any ics modem. I like fl24. And to flash your Rom get the el26 kernel. Get the tar version. Flash that in Odin. It's important to download your Rom before you flash the kernel because you won't be able to boot.
