My wife and I have the same phone, both have cwm installed and rooted.. Today she got a upgrade to Android 4.1.1 and mine is still 4.0.4. I checkd mine and it say my phone is up to date. What is up with that... I checked after the update and her phone still has root..
Never mind. After clearing google service framework in app manager, it worked, downloading now.. BTW what is the big deal on this up date? As I haven't noticed much difference in looks anyway..
It upgrades the software from Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean.

You really see no difference in ICS and jellybean?
Google search is different. Menu settings are different. Web browser is different. Off the top of my head. You can always go back to ics if you don't like it. No one would be offended.

JB runs alot smoother. ICS was a great upgrade from GB lol.. But JB overall is smooth, quicker, and above stated has changed. But run what you like to run. only opinion that truly matters is yours.
I'm running JB, but I thought there was a physical difference, like the OS looked a lot different. But it still looks like Ice to me..
As far as i know if u are rooted and try to take the jb update it doesnt over write after it install the jb update for me it reboots into twrp recovery I reboot im still Rooted on 4.0.4

When can I expect to get update
My wife and I just upgraded to the Galaxy S III last Friday when Sam's Club had them for 96 cents (we couldn't pass up the deal). I have gone about as far as I want to on setting up the phone before I get the update. As I ran a none standard Epic 4G I never received software updates from Sprint. My question is when can I expect to receive this update????
I need to root the S3 so that I can finish setting it up.
Thanks for the information.

Just root your phone and pick a stock JB rom from the forum. There are plenty out there. No need to wait for sprint to push the update to you.

Why not just flash the update in stock recovery? You can use ota rootkeeper to protect root.
Also the pro version of mobile odin will flash any of the full fw releases as well as the otas, and it'll reinject root during the process. (Its now my preferred method)
Most people arent going to want to give you their nandroid. theres too much personal info on it. Even those like me who make one right after flashing will be very cautious about this. Theres almost always something in there that is easily forgotten to clear. You could get lucky and find someone willing to do it, just dont get your hopes up too much.

Hey doc got some questions for ya. I came to the gs3 from nexus s 4g. With the ns4g I could always just flash new ROMs and updates in cwm. It seems the process is a bit more complicated on gs3. I purchased mobile Odin, and I've used the PC version a couple of times, but I'm not that comfortable with it. First day I got my gs3 I flashed Mr. Robinson's root injected uvlah2 and just stuck with that. A couple nights ago I finally flashed a new radio and it has helped my signal. I want to make sure my phone is ready for the jb update so what would you suggest?

Why this sucks. Don't she have to use iTunes if she want to upgrade her iPhone? Just connect S3 to pc, open kies and notification will popup about update after phone is detected. Follow instruction and in about 10-20 min she will be on jelly bean.

Did anyone else recently receive an OTA update notification this morning? My device status has always been modified  and in the past going to the update screen wouldn't allow me to receive the update do to the modified status. This is on T-Mobile so I'm wondering A.) how did the update try to come through with the device modified flag set and B.) why now? This is in the Detroit Michigan area.
ROM info:
Android version: 4.1.1
Baseband version: T889UVALJ1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-260018
[email protected] #1
build number: JR003C.T889UVALJ1
They can push notifications through easily, unless you have a notification blocker setup. The update is 4.1.2, and is supposed to enable mutli-window support for our device that was supposed to come with it.
Clarification: Update NOTIFICATIONS can come through, not the update itself.

Just came across this: Samsung has released the Jelly Bean update for the SPH-D710 phone. It is installed using the Simple Upgrade Tool available thru their site.
Samsung has released a new Android™ OS version for the Samsung Galaxy S® II (Sprint) (SPH-D710). Jelly Bean 4.1.2 software version GB27. Please follow the instructions below to download and install Simple Upgrade Tool using your Windows PC.
Unfortunately, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Epic 4G Touch is not available over the air, and those of you who want to download and install the software upgrade will have to do it through Samsung's site/software. It seems that the downloadable content is just too big to be pushed OTA, at least according to Sprint. If you ask me, I think that the carrier doesn’t want to bother with rolling out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update over the air for the Epic 4G Touch because the phone was launched two years ago and it doesn’t seem to be a priority.
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update van be downloaded and installed right away. In case you want for details about the matter, you can check out the Sprint support site HERE.
Title: Sprint_D710_GB27_JellyBean_SimpleUpgradeTool.exe
Applicable Model: All SPH-D710 Models ending in SPRSEP-D710AAASPR, SEP-D710ZKASPR, SEP-D710ZWASPR,

This is like a more complicated odin one click .exe. I think.
yhea buddy!!
Thanks for sharing
Tried installing followed directions and it got stuck in start up boot loop. Computer Odin into recovery, wiped all data flashed the previous rom was using as DD and now it shows Baseband Version heading GB27 and the rest of the builds from the rom. Not a total success so I can't say it worked or didn't just informing of my results.
Even though it says GB27 I just saw QBKing77 has uploaded Official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean GB27 Update on Samsung Epic 4G Touch Review (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1Bt55Ngass&feature=em-uploademail) to which my phone does not have these changes. I think some are very cool but love running 4.2.2 and they way my phone is now.

But dont take my word on it lol.
Just noticed the OP says something about the reason this update is not OTA through Sprint because this device is "2 years old and is not a priority". This is not true. The reason the update is being pushed this way is because the entire internal SD is wiped to accommodate the differences in the partitions. A regular OTA simply can not achieve this. Hence the reason for a over the wire update.

I just installed the Jelly Bean update on my S2, mainly bc I just got the phone recently after I cracked the screen on my previous phone. I'm new to rooting, and just had a quick question to ask... I have already rooted my S2 and i've been looking through all the roms available, but are there any ROMs that can be used directly with 4.1.2 and the GB27 modem? Or do I need to downgrade to use any ROMs?

You need to post questions in q&a(kennyglass, I can sense your presence!). But the answer to your question is yes, there are many ROMs that have 4.1.2 and in order to use a Jellybean ROM, you HAVE to have a jb modem. Look in android development for this phone lots of choices for 4.1.2. Read the OP correctly and flash away. Good luck!

GPS
Did this update cause GPS issues for anyone else? I installed this on my wife's phone and now she can't lock on generally. If she can lock on, then she loses navigation after a minute or two.
I saw another thread about GPS issues here. Is my only choice to fix it rooting? I root my own devices (my original Epic 4G and current GS3), but in general my wife likes her devices stock. The non final ROMS I ran and issues I had on occasion have led her to be resistant to the idea.

Try updating prl and profile then reboot and use the gps test app to get initial lock for a few minites and it will lock fast after that. Also you can be stock rooted dont need a rom. I keep going back to stock rooted, mostly get rid of sprint bloatware and run adblocker.

I think there must be something physically wrong with her phone. I did the prl and profile updates, to no avail. I used qbking77 videos and rooted then installed a new ROM, flashing an ICS modem like they recommended, and it sees 0 satellites.
My intention now is to revert her back to the stock ICS and run it to a Sprint store and see if they can't be of any assistance. Does the S2 work like the S3 and count when/if you've flashed any custom roms?

Where did you hear that? The only date I've seen was 12/2 posted on tmonews. I think black friday is wishful thinking. We'll see though.

gottabemobile posted an article on the 21st.
this article said that Verizon was scheduled for this Friday, but, from everything else I've read, that doesn't mean much. Whenever it comes out will it change this?

Similar post on tmo news showing the big 4 ota schedule. It had tmo deploying on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
I am definitely not going to upgrade ota. The GS III guys who ota'd to the 4.3 TW got seriously screwed on the new bootloader. Can't revert to any older roms and if you try, it'll brick the phone.
No thanks.

Hey I gotta be honest I have the s3 and I switched to simple so I had to revert back to stock to unlock the SIM. Now I have been out of the loop for a while so I knew nothing about the boot loader being locked so I did the oat update to 4.3 and I gotta say the latest version of tw is really good. This is coming from a guy who hates stock firmware. I haven't really seen the need to root the phone. Maybe I am just getting old and lazy idk but I also heard that chainfire found a way around the locked bootloader so I wouldnt worry about it much. Even if he didnt it is only a matter of time before someone does.

I put docholiday77's rom on my wife's s3. It's nice to be sure. No ota's though. While the community will likely get around the bootloader bit, I'd just rather not have to worry about it.
TWRP or CWM are fine. I can wait for the lads here to tear the TW roms apart and put them back together. We have awesome people here doing bleeding edge stuff, why not appreciate the work they work so hard to provide? OTA's can suck it.

black friday is verizon 4.3 drop date
I read that 12-2-2013 is when we get the 4.3 update. (Tomorrow) will they start sending it out tonight at midnight?
