I installed it a couple of months ago on my S3. It is definitely cool, but not without issues. Some of the UI is difficult to navigate - seems like it needs a bit more refinement and optimization for a touchscreen. The bigger issue was that even while idle, XBMC will max out cpu. Phone gets screaming hot, and battery plummets faster than I've ever seen with this phone. Perhaps that issue has been fixed in the most current version.

I have used it since it actually was on the Xbox.

Yeah still reading more about it.. lol

I've never used it.
But XBMC is HUGE in the Home Theater PC (HTPC) world.
So I'd imagine that development will continue pretty well in the Android world as well.
I use JRiver Media Center for all my HTPC music & video stuff. I know JRiver has some Android sort of plugin but I haven't delved into that yet.

I had this and navi x on my apple tv that I used for regular tv for 2 years. I'm more of a navi guy that's what I have on my s3 now.

The newest version of xbmc has fixed a lot of the early bugs. I have it running flawless w/ navix, blue cop and a couple other repos. Takes about 3 mins to set up once you have all the zip files. XBMC in my opinion is by far the best free media app.

really? first time you hear about XBMC? its ok!
XBMC is like very big..., no wait its huge on linux, IOS, windows, raspberry pi, apple tv and htpc, or anything that have a CPU,hdd,ram.
it cuts the cord to cable or dish, hence your wallet likes it. personally i have it on my GNU/linux pc and my apple tv2. but i dont like the idea of watching shows or movies on my mobile computer (GS3) I hope you enjoy XBMC on Android. its good to have choices

Do you use it for music management?
I'm in the market for a music management app for my computer & phone. That also lets me listen to music and watch my HD recordings on my HTPC.
Something that will let me sync playlists and such, as well as play the music.
MediaMonkey has good reviews. But it doesn't do some of the HTPC side of things that I want.
I have JRiver Media Center but it's a PITA to figure out. And there isn't a 100% solution for Android there yet. Just a little gizmo app.

Nevermind I figured it out. It's been a while since my apple tv but u finally have navi x the way it's supposed to be on my s3 I can finally delete amo navi x

One quick way around is to root and install ChainFire3d and install the necessary plugins <Tegra, Qualcomm> and then installing them and playing the game!
Hope this helps!

Did you download it from the Android Market or from Samsung Apps?? Samsung Apps has it for free but specifically states that it is only for the oringinal SGS1 and not the SGS2.
I downloaded it from the android market and thank you everyone for your support. I feel so bad that I can't install the beloved game my 4 yr. Old loves to play on his ipod, I feel definitely really bad since I paid $749 for my GSII that I can't play a simple high end game like NFS.

Ok, the game is playing fine now, but the only problem is that every like 3 minutes it pauses or turns off completely, so I have to turn the power buttom on my GSII and the game comes back telling me that it has been paused.
Strange every time this happens I see the lock screen, have to unlock the lock screen and then un-pause the game.

What apps have made you like this phone?

been reading all over the General/Accessories threads.. great stuff... im not readay to root or install roms yet... sooo
I am coming from the Sprint Mogul (Titan) and loved it.. then with custom roms it was a better phone.. powered windshield mount, gps software and all.. it was great..
now this my first android... and I have already started seeing the night and day difference (side from hardware.. bigger screen, faster, etc...)..
just ordered a infuse windshield mount and going to order a samsung e4gt desk cradle in a bit (waiting on an ebay offer if accepted)
what apps do you run that is making the phone enjoyable???
my list and couldnt do on the Titan...
1. Office Talk Free (Office communicator) - really nice so now i can go to the labratories and can get messages still!!!!
2. VIP Access - no more keyfob on my keychain.. just put it in my drawer...
3. Beat the Traffic
4. KeypassDroid
5. Craigslist
6. a reliable flashlight app
7. Wifi Analizer - had one on ppc but this one was way better.. even told me to change channels for performance
what do you use???
Only thing I am not thrilled with is the GPS software.. I had TomTom7, iGuidance and GarminXT... TeleNav isnt working right (triangle not on the street) and Navigation looses connection....
Fruit Ninja
I liked it before I even bought it. I just knew it was the next phone I needed.
My gut was right, and I love it completely. Even stock it's an awesome piece of hardware. Not that mine is stock at all lol.
I work in the hosting biz, so the stardevelop live help messenger app is very helpful for me, as well as whmcs, the high quality browsers, Go SMS Pro, and many others.

But seriously? All the games that never played on my Hero, and all the games that kinda lagged on my Evo4G. All run like melted butter on this.
That being said, I actually only game on my way home on the subway. GoogNav works great for me (if you root, you can try diff modems/kernel combos, fix that, btw), NetFlix is awesome, all the basics (gmail, calendar, talk) are also smoove as hell and easy to read, wifi-analyzer/network utility apps and things like wifikill and "Anti" are awesome, all the camera apps like vignette and camera360,...
On and on and on...
Sent from my calculator watch.
I run the same main apps I have had on my previous phons.
1> Llama (Used to be locale, but I think I like Llama better)
2> Tapatalk
3> Aldiko and iReader
4> Runkeeper
5> Flashlight (Amazing idea and REALLY useful at times)
6> Navigate (I haven't pulled my GPS out of my glove box in a few years now)
7> Pandora
8> Sound Hound
10> Goggles
tough question to answer, but, let me put it this way; I have yet to see ANY app that didn't run perfectly, smoothly, and faster than any other phone I have owned..
Nothing is even close to this phone right now, as far as being perfect in almost every way...
I've owned at least 50 phones in my life, so I know of what I speak..
Agree with above

Loved the phone straight out of the box but the wealth of apps definitely makes me love it more.
Mobile Checkbook
Beat the Traffic Plus
Key Ring
Out of Milk
Dropbox
Springpad
There's quite a few more but that's the gist of it.
I agree that besides compatibility like with games like GTA3, this phone mostly just brings speed and size to the table. That said my most used apps on it are:
1. Plume
2. Netflix
3. HBOGO
4. MIUI Music
5. LOUDER
6. SB Nation
7. ACS Mobile
8. Transparent XDA
9. Scorecenter
10. GTA3

Canadian Gnex Users, where do you get your music?

Google Music is onlyavailable in the USA. Is there a similar service in Canada?
Thanks
Once you have created an account (do it on your computer thru a proxy), you will be able to use Google Music in Canada. You can't buy music but you can still stream/download for offline use.
There is a guide how to use Google music outside of US here in xda. I followed that guide and using Google music in Korea.

I was able to use proxy very easily. Using Firefox browser, a plugin called "stealthy" is used, and is visible, once installed in the top right corner of your screen. When you want the proxy turned on, click the stealth bomber and it turns green. Want it off? Click it again and it turns red!
I am able to go to google music anytime using this method, and works flawlessly!

Or basically anywhere you would normally get music before Google Music popped onto the scene only a few short months ago. Odd question.
I use Microsoft Zune. Music is generally cheaper than other places and the UI is great. My sister and I buy a Zune pass together. The music is DRM protected, but there are ways around that...

Mainly iTunes but that's due to a lack of options. I always check hmvdigital.ca first though and if it's the same price there, I'll get it from there instead of iTunes. hmvdigital songs are for the most part 320kpbs and are DRM free and you can download them again and again as many times as you want.

Is this still working for you? I have been using the services in Canada without issue until today, now the Music Manager won't upload additional songs. Methinks Google may have caught on.
I use 7digital. They have a Canadian store and an Android app so you can buy right to the phone if you like. The stuff I've purchased has been 320kbps DRM-free. Easy as pie.
I've been using Google music in Canada since it launched with absolutely no issues. I used a program to fake my IP for the invite, as far as I know you no longer need an invite now. Music manager works flawlessly as well, overall the whole setup is beautiful and I love it.

Best music app subscription

So I have been using a windows phone with a zune pass which allows you to download unlimited music and stream it. Its almost exactly like MOG. Now I have this phone and use mog. I paid for the subscription so I can download music to my hearts content. This issue is that my car radio doesn't display any of the artist or song info of the downloaded music or the streaming music. Mog saves the songs as random numbers and not by any artist title. My question is what subscription based music app let's you download and stream music that is similar to zune but not mog.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I tried the free trial for rdio and it doesnt seem as refined as mog and basically works the exact same. I have resigned to the fact that no music from my android will display the artist, song, and album info onto my truck radio. I have tried to use MOG, Apollo (using songs that I manually ripped and put on the phone), and songs from my google music and none will display the song info on my truck's screen. Has anybody had success with Android and displaying the song info on radios? My Lumia 900 did it just perfectly but my Gnex just says no text for every kind of app that plays music.
Well, my friend used his Galaxy S III (stock) and was able to play music from google play and it displayed the information up on my truck's radio. It is either the phone or the ROM that i am using (phandroid). I dont want to flash another rom though to test it, so if anybody is able to display song / title info onto their vehicle radios, please let me know.
Next issue, is that on wp7 phones, it automatically will read texts to you while connected to a bluetooth headset, which is extremely useful for driving. Gnex doesnt do this. I am curious as to what apps people are using that can do this same thing. Any ideas?

Doubtful. You could just backup in recovery... and then flash a new ROM and see if it works if it works then just start over if it doesnt just restore your nandroid. Everything will be back to the way it was like nothing ever occurred.

NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0?

Has anyone yet figured out how to either find or port the "NEW YouTube for Android TV 2.0" x86 APK to an ARM APK? We have waited over a year for a new version, yet its only for x86. It is disturbing that this new YouTube version is not available on the SHIELD TV almost immediately.
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-tvs-youtube-app-gets-a-refreshed-ui-with-latest-update
You've waited a year, you can wait some more. APKmirror is probably the place where it will show up first.

Yeah lets hope so. And no I didn't wait a year. I flashed Full Android on mine so I wouldn't have to wait for newer YouTube versions any more. It was the only reason I went to FULL Android because the Youtube for Android TV was really showing its age and crashing all the time. You pay a premium for a premium device, so you should expect a premium experience in return. Otherwise they are not doing their jobs.
What's interesting is that this youtube 2.0 UI is exactly how youtube looks like on my old and loud Xbox360!!

Yeah some say it looks like the HTML Smart TV version below. I'm not so sure until I actually see it on my SHIELD TV.
https://www.youtube.com/tv
So it can't be ported to arm format?
I have this new format on my Smart TV, and it may well do away with that crappy Red Bar that pops up when you try to pause on something. But that said, the new Layout sucks donky balls. And Google can take their sweet gentels with porting it to the Shield.
Though I have to say (Even given the decentralized nature), of my Smart TV), I'm kinda shocked the OEM has even botherd. Considering the TV was sold in 2015. And, picked up about a year ago on clearance. But it was hard to say no to a 50" 3D 4k LED set. Even if the Smart TV bits of it tended to also suck.

Good question. Maybe it is exclusive to the Nexus Player. Or they are just testing it on the NP before releasing it to 3rd party devices. Who knows? Without an official statement of what's going on we can only speculate. I guess Android TV must not be very big or as important of a platform to warrant updates.
apk for arm device is available on apk mirror (v2.00.17):

Someone was looking at this threat actually was looking for some tutorial in how to port it, but google has done the work for us, we should thank them
Yeah they were working on it all along but released the x86 version first for some reason. Maybe the arm versions had a must fix first before release bug?

Really I don't like very much this new version, I don't know about you, but the app crashes when you try to type anything on video search.
No crash for me
But option to change quality video is gone:crying:
The user reviews are in the toilet as well. I'm no longer in a hurry to try it. However I can't get last year's YouTube version to not crash either. It's easily the #1 most unstable app I use by far.

I updated it and hated it and immediately rolled back to the old one. My problem is I got 2 Youtube accounts associated with my Google account. My primary account I created about 10 years ago with all my subscriptions and the G+ one it forced me to create a few years back, which I don't use.
Under the old app, it allowed me to select the account I wanted to use:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Under the new account, it won't allow me to select the account I want, and only shows the G+ account saying my other account isn't available.
I downloaded and installed it and I hated it as well... There's no rolling text on the thumbnails so you have to open each video just to read the full title... no comments as well, no add to watch later no anything good... rolling back to the old version as this one sux.

New app is ugly and slow (everything seems to require more clicks to get there).
Besides the ability to select resolution being removed, many Sony TVs lost the ability to play 4k (they locked it to a max of 1440p).
This version is going to need some work.

Do we really believe Google will be working on it??? :/
Yeah, and not only that, when I updated to the new Youtube app it used my "original" Youtube account before Google bought them out. So hundreds of my subscriptions and all my proper recommendations were missing and I couldn't recognize my own Youtube channel. It was like starting all over again on Youtube from scratch. And worse still, it wouldn't even offer me the ONLY account I ever use, yes the same one I have been using every day since Google bought Youtube, it was completely missing as an account option.
So I was forced to reset back to the original Youtube app and it immediately offered me and connected to the proper account. Is it really this hard for a multi Billion dollar corporation such as Google to code these apps?
I sort of meant someone HERE might take a look under the hood.
