People with Google phones, that don't know how to use them scare me of what the world is coming to... anywho, yes the speed and fluidity of it and the customization kind of... It's a basic layout with no skin just Android and its glory.

customization is the main thing, and by customization i mean having all the cool apps you download such as CPU controllers, etc etc.. built into your settings. other than that, it is nothing special.

How's the battery life on CM10 on the SGS3 now that the 4.1 kernel source has been released?

personally AOKP is where it's at. Just tiny little things that make it better in my opinion. Overall, like everyone else that makes this kind of thread, try it yourself and let us know.

CM doesn't build from TW source... they build from the nexus line... so the two are unrelated.
Touchwiz will give you better battery life, and more customization in certain areas. honestly, i listen to a lot of music, and the stock TW music app blows anything and everything out of the water. period. the one delivered by cm is bare bones and bland IMO.
if you want stability, and functionality, such as all the motion stuff, the wifi calling, other basic things.... stick with touchwiz builds that are meant for, and optimized for this device. it will run a million times better

I'm using some combination of cm9 and cm10 on my touchpad for a while... I'd just heard bad things about battery life on the sgs3...
And yeah, I've heard good things about the AOKP guys... though there were some conflicts with the cm touchpad dev team...

Agree. Tried cm on this device . Keep coming back to stock. If it was GB yes custom ROMs are better. I think Google and Samsung did a great job on this phone and the os.

Yeah, I agree, AOKP is where it's at. CM is ok, but nothing to call good. AOKP makes up for that.
The ***NEW*** Touchwiz has a lot of nice features, but then it doesn't have a lot of nice features. One of the things that pissed me off about the stock ROM was they TOOK OUT lookscreen music controls - like how asinine is that?

plenty of apps on the market to satisfy that need...

In my opinion following three are the best for customization:
- ParanoidKangDroid (PA+AOKP)
- Paranoid Android
- AOKP

It has a cool name...

Is it possible to mod a TouchWiz ROM to have the status bar icons all look like AOSP status bar? I love the simple, clean look of AOSP status bar. Btw, I get great battery life on CM10:

For me it's having access to Android updates.
I can't remember when I didn't have jellybean. My dad got it last night on his s3.
I get updates every day. 4.12, now.
4.2 very soon.
In a lot of ways the cm team (along with others) are writing the android code.
Why not get our operating system from the source? Then play with it

You're missing the point, a good feature that comes with the ROM. Samsung takes it out and you have to download another whole app to have that feature again.

how is the battery life on cm10?

The best rom hands down for the D2tmo is liquid smooth, I tried a lot of the custom roms and they either have great customization and a lot of odd bugs or you will have to use a rom with TW which means no customization but less bugs. I find that Liquid Smooth lets you do the customization of a normal custom rom but does away with TW which being (mostly) bug free.
It took them a while to get there but V8 is pretty solid.

Best ROM hands down is Paranoid Android it is amazing and with the ktoonez kernel I get amazing battery life i'm talking about 1d 15h

[POLL] Favorite ROM for the Galaxy Nexus?

This has been discussed a bit on this thread but I thought I would make a poll so we can see in numbers
If you absolutely, totally cannot settle on a favorite, pick "Can't pick a favorite" (top option).
I would vote but my rom didn't make the list pool party ftw

lol, I tried to list every ROM I knew of...you can still check other
For me the best Rom is CM9 no Akku Drain, Data Drops ....
I have to say I always keep going back to Gummy. As far as the other major players..
-I actually found Liquid to be sluggish at times mainly the toggles and wifi/data connection. Otherwise its pretty good. Waiting to see what 1.5 brings. Some people are Beta Testing
-CM9 I like it however I seem to have data issues on it. Menu list could be simplified. Battery drain. GPS/Maps
-AOKP, I just constantly get FC's no matter what I do. 5 FC's in 2 min of booting is no bueno. Again, simplified menu needed.
-BAMF was good but I want more customization
-Stock, well, it got boring.
+ Gummy just seems to be a great balance between them all. Performance, stability, and awesome battery life. I am always looking for a new ROM. I do not really have an allegiance; but I have had great luck with Gummy on my Charge, Bionic, and Gnex.
Only thing I wish Team Gummy did more of was being involved on the forums. That was one thing I really liked about DroidTheory. He was personally involved all the time almost daily. I and others just wish the Gummy Dev's chimed in more. I understand people have lives and jobs outside of creating these ROMs; but people want to feel like their devs care and communicate with them. Gummy has A BUNCH of supported devices. Maybe too many?
Still, I feel its the best all around ROM. They really do a good job and take their time.
Again just my 2 cents
Eclipse with Franco kernel..

CM9 all the way! Eagerly anticipating their milestone!
After trying slim ics, Android revolution, and Aokp. I have to say slim I is the best rom that I've had on my phone. Great performance, and decent enough battery life.

definitely CM9, best rom ever, AOSP, clean, feature rich, stable and faaaaaast.
tried others but always come back to CM. had it on my nexus S, now have it on my GNex, it's simply the best.
Rascream by rascarlo! Fastest rom out there. Comes with a black theme too! ;-)
Can you do a poll like this for Kernels as well?
Nothing beats the Paranoid ROM. Tablet Mode ftw!
I cannot really choose a favorite. Currently, I jump between AOKP and CM9, but I could just as well flash another one if it's new and sounds nice.
Black Ice with Franco kernel ftw.

I want to say one thing. I don't like the Liquid Smooth rom. It speeds the UI up artificially and that's not what a custom rom should do on its own.

I would say that you should update to AOKP and make sure you have the right radio for your location. Also, stick with Franco Milestone.

Core differences between AOKP, CM, and Gummy

As a recent convert to the Gnex (previously a Sensation owner) I have been eying the dev forum for some time. With my Sensation I was fairly "flash happy" and I ended up with in my opinion the best AOSP 'like' ROM on the market which was the original HyperNonSense. Of course, now that I have a Gnex that pure Google flavor is available right out of the box so I need to consider different things with the available ROMs.
Can someone please detail the main functional differences between AOKP, CM9, and Gummy for me? Yes, I realize I can read the pages (and pages, AND PAGES) of changelogs and features associated with each ROM but that is a tedious process. I assume that people who have frequented this particular forum for a while can easily explain the basic yet significant differences in two or three bullet points, and that would be GREATLY appreciated.
AOKP has the most features. CM9 is more or less stock with some added features at the moment. Gummy is like CM but with a few more features but less than AOKP. Gummy has some cool unique ones though. Another one I recommend is Liquid smooth. It is like a AOKP feature wise and actually has a few more but it is light weight like CM.

Thats some good info, thank you. Can you detail a few of the unique or cool features you mention? I had actually not considered Liquid Smooth however I will based on your recommendation.
I've been running AOKP Build 38 for the last few days and I like it. I've had a couple issues here and there with my Exchange Sync but otherwise has been great. As I mentioned in a few other threads I feel my phone runs hotter with AOKP.
I've also tried LiquidSmooth and had 0 complaints and in fact Liquid is the only ROM I've tried that has profile support for ringers/notifications (huge for me). Its so nice that when I go to bed at night I can turn notification off for everything but phone calls without having to set each individually.

As mentioned above, liquid has profiles for notifications. Gummy has the carrier text persistent in the top left of the status bar (like MIUI) which I really like. Liquid has a choice between toggles like CM or like AOKP (I hate AOKP style toggles). Liquid also lets you change the notification shade transparency on the fly which is nice. There are others but I'm at the gym ans can't think of them haha
"Long is the way, and hard, that out of hell leads up to light."
Cm has profiles as well and were probably the originators. While aokp has more features, cm do test more thoroughly as they aim to produce stable and quality code. Sometimes aokp use ugly hacks to do things, which cm will never do. In my experience cm seems a little faster than aokp, although I often toy with both I lean slightly more towards cm.
Never used gummy extensively as the boot sound is very annoying and it doesn't seem to offer anything that the other two don't.

AOKP = packed with features. Stable and fast.
CM9 = Less features than AOKP. Stable and fast.
Gummy = Kinda like AOKP. Haven't tried it.
Liquidsmooth = Like AOKP. Somewhat solid and stable, but its developers are whoring for money and only give out their nightly builds by hanging out in their IRC or by donating.
BuglessBeast = based on stock but better and far more solid and stable.
SlimICS = Heavily slimmed down ROM. Stable and fast.

for me AOKP--full-featured,stable and fast
CM9--less features,stable and a little more faster
Liquid--full-featured,more than aokp (aokp's features plus others)very fast (fastest i think..)but only english language and the fact sad some posts before.(nightly on donation or IRC)
BlackICE--an aokp based rom plus many many features from cm9.fully featured like liquid, same stability than others,a b it more fast than aokp, and a bit less fast than liquid(but with many languages).really like the features of this rom,it's my daily driver.a plus of this rom is the fact that it's black&blue themed.
all these are only my personal experience in months of testing\flashing.good chooice!

[Q] [opinion] what is the best rom for speed/battery life and no bugs?

Just curious as I just got my S3 today (came from the evo lte) loving it so far. running paranoid 4.1.1 right now and like it just a few little bugs here and there with camera/alarm and mms so thinking of going to a stock looking samsung rom.
Just wondering what is everyones favorite rom for overall performance/battery life and just least amount of bugs. Like everything to work just hoping to get some optimizations and tweaks to make the phone perform better than what samsung puts out.
Looked at Blazer ROM and seems like the best from a few minutes of reading.
Once again thanks

Jellybomd is solid, still liked Blazer more. Paranoid will own once its completely stable. Thought about flashing anakonda tonight.... very highly themed and I've heard good things.
OdexedBlue is what I always go back to. I've used Blazer, FreeGS3, JB Leak LIF, and stock rooted. There's no comparison.
Samsung Galaxy S3
OdexedBlue ROM
LI3 Stock Kernel
LIF Baseband
XDA Premium - Support our developers, modders, & themers!
FreeGS3 with Trinity kernel, same stock feel with the little tweets here and there. Undervolted and overclocked, though I usually run stock speed. I get easily 13-15 hours with 4-5 hours screen on time.

Stock Freeza's DeoDexed ROM. I themed it the way I want using Morphology, and I absolutely love it. I have a themed stock messaging app (always wanted this) centered clock and everything.
Get about full day and a half on battery, and that's texting, calling and using some data.

I'm a fan of Wicked Sensations and FreeGS3 ROMs. I've used both as everyday ROMs, and have had zero problems with both. FreeGS3 is more closer to stock look and use, and Wicked is a very cool themed blue (Wicked also has a green/orange theme named AnaKonda that is just as cool). When I don't use and abuse my phone in terms of videos/browsing/social media, etc, I get great battery life from both. Just my $.02.

I myself just came from the evo lte i also like a rom with the samsung look. i really like a rom that still includes the motion for the s3, thats one of my favorite parts of the phone. but i have been using peoples rom and it has a launcher , or touch wiz 5x6 or 5x5 column that you can choose from. it also allows you to choose what samsung apps you would like to install with it as well. it is blue colored but it still has the same layout just different icons. i really enjoy it and i haven't had to many bugs.

What is it about TouchWiz that is so bad?

I'm just curious about why Stock TouchWiz releases or TW custom ROMs get such a bad rap here at xda?
I do love AOSP or CM custom ROMs and all their customizability but I do also like some of the TW features and layouts, etc...
I'm just curious if I'm missing something here and if there are inherent bugs, flaws, etc with TW ROMs that make them rather unpopular?
Or is this simply personal preference again and one that has a big consensus majority here for whatever reasons?
Thanks

I agree on this one and it's better stock features. But I hated cm intill I gave it three days now I love it snapper more basic features customizable and support now there are things that I hate speakerphone doesn't work can't find task manager I don't get why it's not there like touchwiz but I'm a noob so I think these issues will resolve themselves over time with me understanding how to use root explorer nova launcher etc.

Yea... i'd have to say the camera is my biggest draw towards sticking with a TouchWiz based ROM. Touchwiz has a nice camera.... yet CM/AOKP seem to have far superior battery life.
I wouldn't exactly say that Touchwiz ROM's get a bad rep here. I mean... look at how many there are.
Its strictly preference. Tw doesn't offer as much user customization, whereas most aosp based roms do. I've tried both, i like both.

I just restored back to stock ICS after running CM10 for 10 days. I really dig the camera on TW.
Another thing I like about TW is the Contacts integration with Swiping Left to Text / Right to Call. I noticed this was the biggest thing that I was missing when using CM10.
Other than that, I don't use any of the Social integration, so I wouldn't know about that.

I was getting 5 hours of screen time using LTE for most the day and almost 6 hours (5.58) using just Wi-Fi. This was on TouchWiz with the standard 2,100 mAh battery on a TW JB leak ROM. Not to mention a bunch of widgets on my home screen. CM10/ASKP really tops that?

Same here! I have tried many ROMS in the past week. I loved many of them..AOKP...CM..but the one thing that kills it for me is the camera. The stock camera is great. Cant even find anything comparable in the play store to use with another ROM
only thing i hate about TW is that it is BUTT UGLY. It still looks like gingerbread still... I understand that green uses less power than blue, but the rest of the UI is just really bad. I am staying with stock only because of camera quality, dock compatibility, and allshare cast compatibility. If it werent for those things, I wouldve stayed on my Galaxy Nexus

i tried to do a search over in the Android Dev section on 'TouchWiz', but i didn't see too many.
the one that stood out to me was JellyBean747 Milestone 7 Graystone Edition.
i would like to switch back to TouchWiz, but only if its JellyBean. either 4.1, 4.1.1, or 4.1.2, any suggestions?
edit: also found FrostyJB_4.1.1-v3~[10.24.2012]
Uh... EVERY Rom in the android dev section is based on Touchwiz.
As for a recommendation... drewgaren's Serenity Rom is quite nice... haven't tried his Milestone 7 Rom yet, but I used previous Milestone versions and also had no issues. Difference between the Milestone roms and Serenity is that Serenity is built off of the stock Galaxy Note 2 Rom, whereas the Milestones are based on GS3 leaks.

Nexus Roms

Hiya everyone,
So I just became a Galaxy Nexus owner as of yesterday, and wondering what support is out there for this phone dev side as well whats everyones fav rom? I'm quite happy with the stock AOSP 4.2.1, however I do miss some customization of roms like from CM and AOKP when I was a S2/One X owner.
Wondering if its really worth that much of a change though however to go custom? I used to build on the S2 side of things so if there seems to be a strong community on the Nexus side maybe I'll reboot the old linux box.

You couldn't just look in the development section? And there is no favorite rom for everyone. I use slim but everyone has their own preference. No offense but I'd have expected a Dev to know better.
Try Xylon, custom toggle, custom navbar, custom status bar, custom kernel, custom .... Blablabla
A powerful mix of many CM, AOKP improvements and mainly lag and bug free

I did look through the dev section, hence why I'm asking what people run. I don't feel like sitting at my computer all day downloading and flashing roms. I'm really looking for a decent rom thats up to date with AOSP at 4.2.1
No offense but I like to get involvement from people around me and get to know a new community a little better.
Do try Black Bean AOKP. I found this one a very complete and stable ROM in my starting days with Nexus.

Hmmm, why don't you try building as you used to do on your S II and customize your ROM the way you wish? Actually this is what I settled on after trying so many ROMs on my S II and I am following the same way with my GNex. I feel great and satisfied when I am running my own ROM and I may even bear some bugs in it just because it is mine
This is the only experience I can help you with because this is the only ROM I use
try taking a look at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1802692 it has rom comparisons in terms of features in their google doc https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AggpxyzXBu--dEZMWnZTUWtMVXBpdHNteW5zTXpRVmc#gid=1

I may just have to do this, as I'm not looking to go down to 4.1.2, and the only 4.2.1 roms I've tried thus far actually haven't gone past the bootscreen logo oddly enough.
rasbean jelly is a wonderful aosp based rom, its always updated to be up to date with the latest aosp, asap. speaking of, it was updated minutes ago http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=rasbeanjelly&device=maguro
I am using paranoid android and it has quit some customizations

Codename Android here. It's Jb 4.1 and is rock solid for me. Love the stock feel and plenty of customizations. I've tried paranoid android and bugless beast, but always come back to CNA.

For me 4.2 is a total dissapointment,i'm still running 4.1.2 on CNA 3.8.0,the best i found out there. Tried all the 4.2 roms and all of them had that lockscreen delay that was driving me nuts so I decided remaining on 4.1.2 for a while. Also tried all the 4.1 roms but the best that fits my wishes is CNA with a stock look and tons of customization, along with faux' latest kernel, 23m-sr
Paranoidandroid hands down, no rom on this site is comparable when it comes to speed, smoothness, customizations and battery life all rolled into one, others may have one of those better but none have the combination and NONE have the amount of options.
What I am using currently can be found in my signature below.
If you're looking for a stock ROM that's merely been rooted and deodexed, bigxie's ROMs are solid and popular.
If you want a lean, clean, fast ROM with only the most useful modifications, it would be hard to beat Rascarlo's ROMs.
If you want ROMs with mods galore, some of the most popular ones are CyanogenMod, CodenameAndroid, and ParanoidAndroid. But there are plenty of others with dedicated followers.
I'm using Mmuzzy's AOSP 4.2.1 with kmameguy's MODs. I have the nice CM circle percent battery and other MODs, with the stability of 4.2.1 (as stable as it gets ATM) and probably 15-20 hours on battery. I don't think there are a lot of customizations on any 4.2 ROMs yet, as they're dealing mostly with stability issues. I've tried Factory, Vanir's beta, Xylon, and others... none have been super impressive to leave Mmuzzy's...
