Phone thinks head phones are in when there not - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So today the volume stopped workin on the e4gt i gave my son. When i turn it up it says warning listining to loud music could be harmful as if the headphones were in. The phone still rings so i know the speakers not broke. Dose anyone know what this could be?

same thing happened to me, use a q tip to clean out the inside of the headphone jack, if that doesnt work wait a few days and it should go back to normal, thats what it did for me

You tried a battery pull yeah?

Wrong section to post this in. Should be in the Q&A.
I would try battery pull first.

Qtip wotked

This is quite odd. Anybody else had this happen ?

My phone randomly goes into car mode and it lowers ny headphones volume dramatically . I deleted car home and switched roms and it still does it. I really need help because its killing my battery

The car mode thing sounds like a fudged usb port, as for the volume decreasing im not so sure....
It mainly happens when off the charger . I don't think it would be the usb. But who knows .

[Q] Screen touch sounds

I've had this phone for about a month and a half, and almost every single day I have to go into the sounds setting to disable the "screen touch sounds". Has anyone ever had that issue before? I have the phone set up the way I like it, and don't change anything in the settings anymore, but somehow I'll be going to do something and I hear that silly noise when I select something. I know it's not a big deal, but it drives me crazy. Any advice?

Same for me. I ended up going in with root explorer and replacing the sound files with silent files to stop the sound from coming back.

Happens to me every time I put the phone on vibrate and back on sound. It is annoying.

i havent had that problem at all, ever since i got the phone and rooted with phantoms blaze rom its been working flawlessly, no issues here.
I've noticed it only happens when you change the camera to video or back to camera. So its the camera modes turning it back on. Try it out for yourself.

I have the same problem with the key sounds as well, and I also have the same problem with the hectic feedback. I have no idea what it is, but it's a small problem...

yep, you nailed the cause of the problem. I also have the same issue. It seems this is a pretty common problem on sgs3

Screen won't come back on after call.

The EVO my wife has, the screen will not come back on when she is wanting to end a call. No button pushing will wake the phone. She has to plug her charger in to get the screen to come back on so she can hang up. She is completely stock. Any ideas?

Have her download and install a different dialer and see if that works. Just search 'Dialer' in play store and pick one that has good reviews.
Have her clear the phone cache and data. Did she install anything recently?
I will have her try both suggestions and see what happens. She hasn't downloaded new. Thanks for the info.

Proxy sensor I think its on the left of the ear piece just wipe it and turn your phone flat screen towards the floor and flip it back up or just wipe it lol

Phone vibrates and won't boot

So I was listening to music on my phone with slim bean and it fell behind the bed and when I found it all it does is say Samsung and vibrate in a consistent pattern. Also if I remove the battery and put it back in it vibrates as soon as battery/charger is connected. Does this mean it somehow got in bootloader mode? If so is their a way to get it out without my PC? I tried getting into twrp but. No avail.

These is a similar thread floating around here where people have had this issue when using Pandora. See if you can search for it.

Thank you, I fell into a noob panic. Thanks for calming me down lol. Looks like I may have a power button issue on my hands

No problem. I knew there was something on it but didn't know the details. People have also had a similar problem with Pandora. Don't know if that's what you were listening to, but there seems there's a problem with Pandora and the latest roms.

I was listening to music from my SD card. I got it to boot
But I didn't have the similar in and when I rebooted it it did the same thing. Also got it to load the tarp splash and it rebooted then and I can see the screen flicker like it was booting and the power button was pressed. Looks like I'm going to have to send it off. Hope I can get it replaced for free if not I'm gonna look at a different phone.

Headphone audio issues

When I plug my headphone in, audio is not being routed through it; it just plays through the phone's speaker. I've tried loading up backups where the audio was working to no avail; I think this is a hardware issue but wanted to make sure. Anyone else expeirence this?
Never had the issue, Odin to stock to make sure, or try different headphone.,then if the issue persists then it's hardware

Tried that first thing, but no luck. Running stock rom as well
Interesting. When I use soundabout, I can manually force audio to be played through the headphone, and it works. Removing the headphones results in no audio unless I change the setting in soundabout.

And different headphone does the same? That's most likely hardware then, that's really unlucky

Sometimes, there can be something stuck inside the headphone jack. Does your headphone go in all the way? You might want to to clean the contacts for the input.

It goes in all the way. Sometimes, applying a lot of pressure will cause the headphone to be recognized, but relieving the pressure makes it revert, making me think it is a hardware issue.
When I was a" tech" at verizon. We would put in/ pull out the headphone jack repeatedly(quickly) reboot. Majority of the time it worked. Hope that helps

Sounds like a hardware issue. Wouldn't hurt to buy a new headphone port. Parts for the N2 are fairly cheap and easy to replace

True, but it is the installation I am worried about. I DO have a warranty on it...
It looks like it works if I lay the phone flat and jiggle the cord a bit. I may be able to live with that.

If you have warranty, I'd most definitely get it fixed. I use my headphones almost daily so I would have gotten in fixed in a heartbeat
Have you tried cleaning your contacts? (The metal 'prongs' inside if the headphone jack.)

Tried with five different headsets already.
I took a toothpick and a wire tie to clean it out. No dirt emerged. What else would you recommend to clean the prongs?
