I know the issue of not seeing the backups on twrp has been fixed. I am currently running codename Android and was wondering if the 4.1.2 backups can be used to restore data on 4.2? I have not seen anything on this yet and would like to know.
Thanks
i wouldnt recommend it..ppl are having issues even without restoring

To begin, let me assure you I've read through every forum post I can find regarding this issue and none seem related, or are too old to apply at this time. If I am mistaken I apologize and would appreciate someone pointing me in the correct direction.
I upgraded to 4.2.1 (Shiny). I have some issues so I want to restore my CWM backup of CM10. Since I upgraded and apparently did CWM as well, it is not letting me restore the old backup, giving me the "error while restoring /system" message.
It appears from researching here that the solution is to downgrade CWM, but I am unable to find a download site to get older versions of CWM anywhere. All links that have been posted here are no longer valid ("Forbidden 403"). Any ideas would really be appreciated.
Another possible cause is I updated the bootloader when I went to 4.2.1, is it possible that is causing the problem? If so, which bootloader should I replace it with?
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you very much.
I never experienced such an issue honestly, but by reading through this, try wiping all, installing CM10 again or any 4.1.2 ROM which is the same version as your backup, then restore the nandroid backup.
Hope this works
the backups for cwm changed with the 6.0.X versions and incompatible with previous versions.

Right, but there is no way to get 5.X.X versions of cwm because the directories are private now, so I can't flash an old version to restore my old nandroids.
I was wondering, if I was on any of CM10, paranoid, aokp 4.2 roms, and wanted to nandroid back to a 4.1.1 rom. Do I need to still used the Restore-SDcard-after-downgrade zip? and if so, In what order? I search over the forums looking for similar questions hoping not to clutter the forum with repeat questions so sorry in advance if I missed it.
Simple answer, no...
A nandroid backup is a actual backup of what ever system you are currently running.
So if you dont like the rom your on you can restore your backup and your back to where you were before...
With that being said, I think your actually talking about a different backup. Titanium or an app similar where it restores your installed applications without having to individually do it.
And the answer to that is yes and no...if your going from two different roms you should not restore data as there may be conflicts.
But you may always restore applications from any version of android to another.
Or...are you talking about the partition difference from 4.2 to 4.1.* roms?
Hope this helps

I was talking more about the partition difference from the 4.2 to 4.1 roms. I didn't know if a nandroid has the same affect as flashing back to a 4.1.1 . and was wondering should I flash the zip they provided to fix the partition issue? or don't worry and just nandroid back to what i have when i'm want.
When i restore back to 4.1 i use the zip after i restore. Brings back all the sd locations back to where they were. If i dont use the zip i would have to manually change each folder to where it should be on 4.1. Thats why i use the zip to avoid that hassle.
Thank you so much for answering Avatar my question, so whenever i want to switch back to my touchwiz rom, I will just used the zip. thanks again!
I've got my mind set on jellybomb and would like to flash that coming from stock. Will dirty flash work? First time flashing a custom rom on this phone. Will I be able to backup and restore my apps and data using titanium backup? Going to probably use mybackup to backup everything else. Also what is your experience with jellybomb? Will there be future updates? Still new to this forum and this phone.

I've flashed a bunch of ROMs on my phone and I gotta say dirty flashing is trouble. Yes, when reading through the posts, you can always find someone who has dirty-flashed without any problems, but there is a reason why the first debugging recommendation is always "do a clean (fresh) flash." I've heard of many problems with dirty flashing, and if you plan on going from 4.1.2 to 4.2.1 or 4.2.2, dirty flashing is completely out of the question.
As far as Titanium Backup and the other options... I always use Titanium Backup to do all of the dirty work for me (including SMS/MMS messages, phone logs, wifi access points, etc.). My only recommendation would be to not restore the system files (RED in Titanium Backup), as different ROMs might deal with system apps in different ways.
Hope this helps!
Hey people im a newbie here and i want to learn stuff about android.
Recently i checked out the cm 11(4.4.2) roms for my XM... they were good but most of the releases are in the beta stages... I reverted to my stock rom(4.1.2) after a try...
I had a backup of my earlier stock rom(4.1.2) which i restored through cwm successfully.. all went great.. But then the liquid smooth rom came in and i wanted to try it... it was great... i made a clean flash of the liquid smooth rom from my stock... i had a backup of my cm11(4.4.2) rom from before.. i made an advance restore of the data from it(4.4.2 to 4.4.2) and everything went well...
Now my question is if in case i do an advance restore of data from my stock rom backup(4.1.2) to the liquid smooth rom(4.4.2)... will i get any issues??
Thanks for helping in advance..
I'm far from an expert on the topic at hand, however I believe you shouldn't get any errors so long as all the system files to the ROM are left untouched. Get somebody to confirm or correct me however.

playing with nandroid
I did a few sessions of backup and restores in my XM... I found quite a wierd result..
When i do an advanced restore from stock rom(4.1.2) backup to liquid rom(4.4.2) all works fine...
But whenever i try an advanced restore from liquid rom(4.4.2) backup to stock(4.1.2) i get a bootloop...
I just wanna know if this is the same with everyone or is there a mistake in my measures... I guess its got to do something with android upgrading and downgrading procedures... if its not my fault...
Hi All,
Recently I have been flashing a lot of roms- PA, CM, AOSB, ARHD and ViperOne. To make it easy to switch, I would make a backup of the current rom before flashing a new one. However, with both TWRP and Philz, my backups keep getting corrupted. I don't have this problem with CWM. Has anyone else experienced these problems? Is it because I am flashing AOSP and Sense roms, or is it just a bug with the recovery?
Thanks in advance!
Shouldn't be an issue going between AOSP and Sense. But I did randomly have an issue restoring a TWRP backup early on, and others noted the same. Can't speak much for Philz (never used it).
The problem seemed more common with early TWRP builds. What version TWRP did you try?
You might try to re-install TWRP and just try again.
