[Q] Which system apps can I delete after rooting? - HTC Wildfire S

Hi all
I recently rooted my Wildfire and installed the wonderful link2sd. My Wildfire was on T-Mobile and I froze the following system apps - Does anyone know if I can safety uninstall them as freezing dosnt appear to have created any problems? I assume that uninstall will create more internal memory?

Is there any others I can ditch too?
Thanks ppl

Basically if you have frozen an app and it has caused no problems for a few days/couple of re-boots, then it is safe to delete. The ones in your list should be safe to delete anyway.
As for any others you can delete, it's hard to tell without knowing what apps you have on your phone. Generally anything that doesn't seem to be connected with the way the phone runs should be OK to delete.

You can remove all apps mentioned here ecept Tell HTC (Im not so sure about it). But yeah their integration will be limited,

You should be able to delete all the HTC widgets and mail and gmail and just redownload and link them.

Need advice on uninstalling apps...

I am running Uncommon Sense v1.1. I would like to uninstall a few apps:
Chrome to Phone
Facebook
Friend Stream
Hulu
News
Peep
Stocks
Talk
You Tube
I am familiar with Titanium Backup uninstall method but have some questions regarding the frameworks that accompany these apps. Anyone know of a place that describes exactly what can be uninstalled for this list? It's easy enough to head into Titanium Backup and just uninstall these 9 apps but I think it leaves behind some components that don't really need to be there. But at the same time I don't want to uninstall something that could be critical to another app functioning correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.
I removed Friend Stream, news, peep, stock with no problems at all, just move them to your sd card incase you need to put them back. Dont just delete them.
U can change the extention of thefile from .apk to .bak and leave them in their original folder

Migrating from Desire to Desire HD - advice & suggestions pls.

Hi all. I'm considering getting a Desire HD in the new year. But before I make the final decision I'd like to find out what would be involved in migrating my apps & data etc from my current Desire.
Thanks in advance.
Sent from my HTC Desire
I suppose it all depends on if the HD has been rooted by then and if you could use Titanium Backup?
You could maybe use Appbrain to make a list of your apps installed on your Desire and then login to Appbrain on the HD and install the apps from there?
Your phone numbers and email addresses should be saved in your Gmail account, and will be imported when you set up the device.
No plans to root any of my phones at present

Thanks StuMcBill perhaps I should have added I don't intend to root any phone that I have or intend to purchase in the near future.
I was under the impression that my app purchases/installs were stored somewhere linked to my Google account. With this in mind if I had another phone with the same Google account, when I logged in to the Marketplace my phone would display my apps albeit not installed yet.
I can see why that might not work though.
Do I really need to root one or both phones and then buy/install and use a 3rd party app to migrate to a new phone...?
Your app purchases are recorded so once you log in on the HD it will download them but it doesn't know your download history. As said contacts will be dragged on if u use Google contacts (best way of doing it if you ask me). Things like SMS/MMS can't be backed up/migrated without rooting AFAIK

I'd say wait for Q1 2011... and Tegra 2 porcessors from Nvidia.
The HTc desire HD is still in the same playground than the n1 ..htc desire and others...
Desire vs Desire HD
To add to the conversation: Desire HD is a Desire, but with a bigger screen. That's obvious, but the equation is purely between:
*bigger screen
*less quality screen
From what I've seen, it's not worth switching in terms of price and screen quality vs bigger screen.
Indeed, I'll await new candy with serious power (as if the Desire doesn't have power enough). And yes, bigger screens with superb quality
It's not *only* the screen difference.
HD has much larger internal memory
HD has (much probably) better CPU/GPU
etc.

Thx EddyOS. I think that caps it. With regards to download history are you referring to browser or app marketplace?
I store my contacts in a couple of places but not primarily on Google - so that's less of an issue. BTW I back up my texts using an app called SMS Backup. Sends everything to a folder on gmail.

I delete SMSs as soon as they're read, and archive emails as soon as they're read...don't like clutter

The apps are probably fine unless is one of them is a rogue battery eater. Your problem is more likely to be that the battery hasn't correctly calibrated yet. It's common for the battery to be bad when you first get your phone.

how can I resolve this issue how can i close all applications because bluetooth is off but still big sign on left of screen appearing.
When you pull down the notification bar you see a list of recently used apps, but they're not necessarily running.
Bluetooth will only be on if you have a little icon at the top near the wifi / 3G battery icons. If this icon isn't there then it's off (check in settings if you must).
To close all apps hold the power button until you get the power menu and then select "Restart". This will close all apps and restart the phone. You shouldn't really have to do this very often though.
To answer your other question - To remove desktop shortcuts, press and hold the icon until it lets you move it around and then drag in down to the launcher dock where you will see a trash can icon. This doesn't uninstall the app / shortcut, only removes it from that screen
Cheers

Hotmail on the Wildfire S (the deleting problem!)

Morning all...
So then, I'm still playing with my phones setup having had it for a month....
My main gripe is the lack of internal memory but thats another issue!
So then, I use Windows Live for all my personal stuff (contacts, calendar, and email) and want it to remain that way. I have tried using the official hotmail app however when I used that it used too much internal memory and the phone as a whole suffered.... So I would rather use the integrated android email solution. This works fine for everything when set up as an activesync account bar one thing. When you delete an email it will reappear on the next sync.
I currently get around this buy moving messages I want deleted to the trash box manually (Menu -> move -> Trash). Has anyone found a solution/fix to get the delete button working when syncing with hotmail!?!?
I'm used to Windows Mobile 6.5 so my thinking is that it shouldn't be too hard an issue to resolve... but I have no experience with Android yet! Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks all
Use standard mail app. See the thread of miui it includes link from me. Works great, Hotmail with puch and contact and calendar sync.

Should have mentioned... I am S-ON with the original o2 ROM....
So despite this....
If I download and use that mail.apk
it will overwrite the mail.apk installed on the device and resolve the deleting problem!
yes?
No it's just another app. I'm s-on too. Only allow to install non market apps
Sent from my HTC Superfire S
ok... but the app allows full integration with the htc sense functions?
Does it have a widget to display emails etc?
Does Contact linking work like normal ?
sorry for all the qs!
Works all but no sense widget. It's mail app from cm7

[Q] kwbr v2.0 and facebook contact sync

Is anyone else running this ROM and having trouble syncing their contacts? I have the latest Facebook app installed and running smoothly but when I go to add a Facebook account (settings > accounts and sync > add account > Facebook) it acts like a broken link.
It does state in the ROM thread that media apps were removed. Could that be the cause (lack of Sense for Facebook)?
I'm a Desire HD user myself but the Wildfire Facebook app doesn't seem to have the same contact sync options within the app itself.
Any help gratefully received.
have you downloaded the FB app from the market?
Yes. I had originally restored it via Titanium Backup but when I encountered this problem I uninstalled and grabbed it directly from the market. Didn't make any difference.
and everything else syncs fine?
Yes. I've not had a problem syncing anything else although Facebook is the only 'media' app installed. Other items that sync (google contacts / hotmail) have no problems.
I'm not very familiar with sense. What app does it use to sync Facebook contacts? Does it just use the Facebook app (like in AOSP roms) or is there a sense-based app that runs in the background?
There's a couple of apps, friendstream.apk and friendstreamwidget.apk I'm not sure if you need both pushed to the /system/app folder or if theres anymore things needed, im pretty sure I've seen a Facebook for htc sense before too. Best bet is to download a full sense Rom and compare then steal the apps you require and push them to there relevant folders.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
When u press sync it will start the sync adapter for facebook. Probably something like
com.facebook.android
I don't sync my fb contacts because there are too many so am not willing to test this so if anyone could confirm that would be great.
If you load up your fb app, can you just log in? this will sometimes add the account to the phone.
Also, try clearing data and cache from app manager in settings, uninstalling then re-installing

Thanks for the suggestions Scratch. I'll have to s-off the wildfire for that so I'll give it a crack tomorrow.
I've tried everything short of the [extreme] action suggested by Scratch Arkoze. Will let you know how it all goes.
Hi,there is a workaround via unzipping rom and copy, paste apps required if you don't fancy s-offing.

Think there might be another one called social network provider which might be needed ???

Ok, so I took the good advice given to me by slymobi and Scratch and added:
com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk
Friendstream.apk
HtcFacebook.apk
SocialNetworkProvider.apk
from a different ROM (REMPuzzle) into the /system/app folder of the kwbr 2.0 zip, reflashed and viola, the sense/facebook syncing seems to be up and running.
Thanks everyone.

from what I understand, you only need to have com.htc.FriendStreamWidget.apk if you have a widget set on screen, I believe it does not affect the Friendstream.apk but I may be wrong if someone can clarify?
