[Q] Using 4.1.2 NANDROID backup in 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Greetings!
Today, I got noticed that Yakju 4.2 Android came out. I wanted a clean install to avoid bugs so I used Nexus Root Toolkit and did a Flash Stock + Unroot to restore my GN to factory and wipe out everything. Then I installed 4.2 with the same program, using the .tgz from the official site and md5 from there too.
Now I want to restore all my data and previous aps from 4.1.2 times and I can't, Nexus Root Toolkit just don't apply the backup and I'm here without any of my music, apps, contacts, photos, everything...
The question is, How can I backup all my data from 4.1.2 using that Nandroid backup?

Dont restore app data from 4.1.2.
I dont know how to restore from nandroid, but if the nandroid format is img, you can use unyaffs to extract the file and manually move it to your device.
If it contain app data, ignore the app data. Move music, images and anything you want except app data, it may causing a problem in the future. For contacts why you dont just sync it with your google account?

I don't know how to do that... Inside the folder of my nandroid backup are the following files:

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

how are you restoring? You need something like Titanium Backup to restore individual apps and data (apps should restore automatically thru the Play Store). You could always restore a 4.1.2 nandroid, get Titanium Backup, backup all USER apps and data, flash 4.2, download Titanium Backup again, and then restore. This will require root.

Thinking of flashing a ROM? Wiping your phone? Here's how to backup and restore!
I REALLY recommend buying titanium backup. There's a reason it's one of the TOP paid apps available for android. Note that you have to be rooted to use it!

}
1) When you open up titanium backup check and make sure it says you're rooted.
2) Click Schedules to routinely backup your phone. As you can see I have 3 schedules that run daily.
Redo backups for modified data: This backs up the data for your apps. For example... if you are on Level 35 in Angry Birds, doing this will save that data. When you have to reinstall your ROM for whatever reason and have to re-install Angry Birds, the data that states you've passed all the levels prior to Level 35 will be restored.
Backup all new apps and newer versions: It only backs up the apps that have been updated from the Android Market Place since the last backup and adds any new apps you've downloaded as well.
Delete backups for un-installed apps: This deletes backups for apps I've uninstalled during the day. I wouldn't want titanium backup to restore all the apps I've deleted and don't want anymore would I?
3) If you're using a launcher such as Apex or Nova, I also recommend backing up those settings in the launcher itself just in case Titanium Backup doesn't.
4) Now is the time to download your respective ROM and Kernels. Put these on your SD card somewhere easy to find. All ROMS depend on the phone you're using. They're not universal. The two major sites you can find ROMS and Kernels for your device are XDA and RootzWiki.
5) All you have to do now is boot into Clockwork Recovery. From here you wipe system data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache. You can also click "Mounts and Storage" and format the respective folders in there such as system and boot.
6) Once flashed reboot the phone and make sure it boots.
7) You can click the about section in the phone settings to check the radio/kernel/ROM/android version you're on.
8) The first thing I do after signing into my Google account is opening up the play store and installing titanium backup.
9) From TiBu, Click the check mark in the top right to access the batch options. Scroll down to restore and click "Restore missing apps and data". You use this option because restoring system data can cause conflicts with the ROM. After the batch install is done your phone should be read to go!
Note: I flash stuff often which is why I backup so often!

[Q] Restore sms to NOTE 2 from a Kies backup?

I sell my Galaxy S2 (4.0.4 stock) and move to the brilliant Note 2 (4.1.1 stock). For the backup of my contacts and sms i trust only Kies (so i dont have any other backup from sms backup, titanium or other. And now i dont have s2 in my hands). But now i cannot restore the sms's. The Kies finds the backup file (this backup has only contacts and sms inside) but when i try to restore only contacts is checked and even contacts does not restore. Contacts its not a problem because i have them also at gmail but i need the sms's. I' ve search a lot this forum and others but unfortunately i found that kies does not restore sms to a new phone. Do you have any new idea for this matter? Even a way to "get" the sms's to a xls file or, more preferable, to restore into the phone. I tried to open the .sbu file of the backup with many programs but without success.
Its very critical for me to get my sms's back. I will appreciate any help.
Thanks in advance.
Have a nice time with kies...

Titanium is working also without root? I need a safe backup for contacts, sms's, photos, videos. Dont care if it cannot backup apps without root? Just to know if it can backup basic things without root.
Contact you can backup just within application
Contact - menu - import/export - export to sd
SMS you can backup with 'my backup nonroot' , that also backup your installed application(without data) as well contacts too
Another sw is 'sms backup restore'
Photo video you can simply copy paste to pc/ext sd card

A surprise to me from Kies a few minutes ago.
I tried not to restore not from the forth tab but from the third:
I have about 6-7 backups but it recognized only one from October. I choose only sms's and it passes into the phone! At least i lost only 3 months of sms's!
The strange is that i move all my backup files from Kies folder and leave only the last backup from January but it continues to read the backup from October. Dont know where it is saved.

Doesn't the Ion come with a Backup and Restore app from Sony? Every Xperia S has it anyway.. The icon looks a bit like a safe and the app looks like this:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

That app does pretty much everything you want. Just backup and do a factory reset. Since the app is in your system, it won't be affected.
Yes, it does come with an app says backup and restore. Didnt know sony has it in there.
Does it back up the app settings as well?
For my other phone, I need to root to backup settings, otherwise it only backup app, then all scores, setting of all apps are lost.
Thanks.
Do you know where are the files are store using this app from sony?
I can not find it in folder.

You did notice that your 3rd screenshot shows only one backup, right?
The same screenshot shows: (click here to change). Use that to select one of three options to possibly try to get synced to where the actual backups are. Think of the alternatives as permission choices. If you see this "This folder does not have write permission", you can't select that location- it may even be hid if it's on your micro sdcard that you're trying to sync TB to but there's no write permission allocated there.
Ultimately, you may have to move those backups to a folder you create with the 2nd option with TB. I'd suggest you have those backed up on PC to prevent loss; the TB prompted move process is dysfunctional for me. You may have success with simply creating the folder with TB and then copying the backups there.
Marshmallow has limited the access and write privileges. Maybe it's PE1 security update that changed but manage with what you can by moving to favorable location.
I've read posts suggesting /Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup will allow TB to protect backups but unless the path includes /mnt/media_rw, didn't work for me. Mine is /mnt/media_rw/sdcard volume name/Android/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/.
If Titanium Backup creates a folder, it will have the owner and permissions it needs to save and read the backups.

Looks like your backups got wiped. Mine have been wiped multiple times unfortunately. I have mine on my external SD card and it's still happened. From what I can tell, when the app points to the backup location and is uninstalled it'll remove all of the backups too. I never uninstall apps before flashing something new but I have a feeling when I used Odin it played some magic and poof went the backups because that is the only time they ever vanish. In fact the com.keramidas folder mentioned above that I make myself gets removed also.

My backups are in my SD card and internal trying to see if it makes a difference but in both locations it still don't recognize them even though they are there
I have old backup folders and they appear with no problem
It might be that folder or something as that's the only that don't show up

Question why can't backup applications in MIUI backup?

Hello.
Why is no applications backed up when backing up in miui backup?
What good is such an application if it can't back up any one application?
In Settings>Xiaomi account>Xiaomi Cloud u can make a back up that include all/most of ur apps. It's useful when u flash stock ROM only.
You didn't understand me at all.
I have a stock rom.
When backing up, every application is not backed up, only an exclamation mark appears next to them and that's it.
The backup should be 1.5 gb, but only 34 mb will be saved.
I just showed u another way to do a back up (which will restore most of ur apps) instead using miui backup (which is an app, I guess). If doesn't suit u, no problem Btw, I can do nothing to change what miui backup does, so that's why i suggested another way.
Don't bother with miui app backups, they'll just break everything if you restore them after flashing a ROM.
Use google cloud backups for settings and some app data for restoring stuff after a flash or reset.
Hi, just an additional question: does this MIUI backup works with weekly developer eu ROM ?
Thanks

It doesn't work because Miui is a real s h i t
MyPhoneExplorer works fine backing up apps at once. To restore then we need to restore one by one by using myphoneexplorer "Aplications" or copy the all directory to the phone and then install one by one.
Swish is suppose to do this but I do believe you must be rooted for a full backup
Same here. totally frustrating. Why " Not supported" ?

with xiaomi.eu ROM 12.5.9 the Backup works.
I think higher versions are buggy
