This phone has some of the best battery life a phone has ever had. Yet it still might not be enough for some of us, like me. These are the things I have done to achieve up to 6 hours and 45 minutes of screen on time. 20 hours of the battery being on. I will update this thread periodically when I find out new info on maximizing battery life.
STOCK is the best option right now if you are looking to get hours on end of use. I started off with a rooted, deodexed rom.
Pictures are the easiest way to show what I have done so here they are:

This app I found is a great alternative to Titanium Backup. Functions the exact same when trying to freeze apps which is what we will be doing next. It's name is app Quarantine if the pictures don't come out clear
The apps that you can freeze are the following:
- AllShare Play
- ChatOn
- Email
- Game Hub
- Google Play Books
- Google Play Movies & TV
- Google Play Magazines
- Google+
- Group Cast
- Kies Air
- Media Hub
- S Voice
- Samsung Apps
- T-Mobile TV
- T-Mobile Name ID
- Talk
- Visual Voicemail
- Zynga Games
Press the lock button in the top right corner when done checking apps then grant it root access.
Have an idea? I would be more than happy to add it to this post!! Just leave a comment and ill be sure to reply!!
nice. thanks wolfe!

Using NFC tags in the car, both for turning off wifi, turning on bluetooth and gps... but more importantly, turning off bluetooth and gps when exiting the car... has saved my battery a ton!
I also use a flip case as my daily driver. With a little app called Flip Case Control, my screen shuts off when I close the flip cover. This has increased my battery life exponentially!
Your mileage may vary.

Great idea for the NFC tags. The flip cover app I have heard bad things about it tho, if you use your screen for very short periods of time I could see it being helpful tho. Will try and get some NFC tags and try it out!! Where'd you buy yours from

Don't you need to turn on the NFC reader all the time than? How much power does it take?
Question: Will turning off sync keep me from receiving emails in a timely manner?

Losing screen time is a good thing. It means it's shutting off the screen when not in use.

I have an amazon.com prime account, so I tend to use that a LOT. tagsfordroids sells their tags there, as well as their own website. I like those vs the samsung techtiles because they are made of a harder plastic and not on a paper sticker.

I leave NFC on all the time, it's battery use doesn't show up as it's miniscule. You do have to unlock your screen to use the tags, haven't figured out a way to use em from the lockscreen or when the phone screen is off.

Why charge your phone when you can just pop the back cover and slap a full battery in? I have rarely used the charger in 2 years.
From 0 to 100% in 30 seconds. That's why I love a removal battery.

I'm not the one who like to carry chargers and hunt for outlets and using phone while charging.I have habit of charging the phone whilst its switched off which dramatically improves cell life.
@sxi200:completely agree with you mate nothing beats a spare 100% battery.
Spare battery always from the accessories thread once they start posting with battery's like the Anchor etc .

Hi, what is the price of each battery and the battery charger did you pay?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
You do make a great point. Replace a battery in 3 minutes or charge the phone for a few hours.
I have never used a spare battery,
All my phones have only needed one charge a day, my iphone 4 i would plug in for on hour or so before getting out of bed
I have modified my S3 so it just needs to be placed on the palm touchstone, so whenever i put my phone down on the bedside cabinet it charges
Samsung will be releasing thier own wireless charger in the next few months, nothing simoler than just placing your phone on the charging pad, certainly easier then messing around removing tne fiddly and delicate rear cover of the phone
Even car charhers are so cheap now, and just 20 minutes on the way to work will add quite a bit of power
Its not like a few years ago when the smartphone would need constant charging because the battery on lasted a few hours
However, if you prefer keeping spare batteries then thats your choice, and whatever works for you is all that is important.. Enjoy your S3's.

The only trouble with no oem batts, is they dont normally have the NFC stuff in, so no good if you use NFC
Last year I was caught short 6 times with unplanned stuff that happened and didn't have enough charge and had to swap the battery over, so I'll definitely be getting a spare and keeping in the glovebox along with my emergency charger, and if I had an IPhone or One X I would have been stuffed, and that's why I'm never gonna buy a phone without a removable battery even though some experts say that's the future of Smartphones.
Im always by a charger but sometimes (weekend night) I will need a spare so its always nice to have the option to swap batteries.
Question though.
If I get another OEM Samsung battery with NFC chip does anything on the phone need to be reset each time I swap back n forth or will it just pick up after each swap.

Hi! I'll be going abroad in a couple of days and while I have tested most JB roms I'm not sure which rom has the best battery life. I'm currently using Rasbeanjelly and Trinity Stable 35 and I only got 3hrs of screen on yesterday (however I did have 3G enabled most of the time). Can anyone please suggest the best ROM for battery life ?
(Sorry if this has been asked before but I needed to know the answer with the latest roms)
Thanks
3h screen on is already decent for jb. You wont get much better.
Theres a lot of tweaks you can do. One of the most helpful ones is using a screen filter set at about 50%. Its good in the dark, sometimes in the sun you will wanna disable it.
Purchase an extended battery ASAP, they're awesome. Also, another recommendation is to buy an external battery that does at least 1AMP output.
Useful link for the battery.

You've pretty much done all you can software wise. Don't ever use auto brightness FYI, that seems to be a big thing that people do and wonder why there battery drains.

I get over four hours of screen on time and over 12 hours of battery life with moderate use on stock jb. I consider this to be very good.
If you plan to use GPS a lot, an extended battery is recommended.

Think of it this way:
On your phone is a variety of sensors that go off only at certain times (an example being the sensor to the left of your camera, it senses when your face is pressed up against your phone during a call and turns off your screen, call some and cover it with your finger, you'll see).
Now, for auto brightness there is a little hole in the upper right on the back of your phone. Turning auto brightness on keeps this little "camera" on permanently. It causes the phone go run a constant series of scripts telling it to adjust the brightness over and over again and on the fly.
I guess that's the best description I can give, I hope that helps.

That little hole in the upper right on the back of the phone is a 2nd mic for when your recording video to cancel noise. The auto brightness sensor should be on the front of the phone, as there are 2 sensors beside the front camera.

When using NFC tag I understand that when u place or hover over it some action takes place. Can u set it up that when the communication is lost ie u take the device away from the tag it does something. What I'm looking to have is when I place my phone on the tag in my car the setting for display changes to full brightness but when I take it of it goes back to auto.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Negative. You need another tag, maybe in a conspicuous spot on your door to swipe past on your way out the car to set it back to auto.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Nfc task launcher allows you to program two separate tasks per tag. In your case, swipe once for full brightness, swipe again to toggle.
Does it matter which tag I get other than size and water proof etc in other words can certain tag do more than other.

With regards to either poor battery life or usb failure or modem issues. This has been acknowledge by sprint. As i sent my phone in today they were already aware of the problem. For those of you whove had luck with stock fi-27 good for you. For others nothing will save your phone your better off just sending it in. Reverting back to gb will do nothing because of the coding from ics that causes your usb port to fail and then this becomes a hardware failure. Just a heads up.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
The "voltage too high" warning is hardware failure not software related. Its caused by either the USB port getting dirty or going bad or the charging module on the logic board failing. Battery bulge is caused by excessive heat and/or overcharging which is caused by the charging module not shutting the input off like its supposed to. Both are hardware failure and not directly related to software. Although the excessive heat issue can come from wakelocks keeping the processor running for too long increasing the phones temp which will result in a swollen battery if left alone. I had the battery bulge from excessive heat plus my battery has been charged more times than the avg 500 cycles which weakens its core structure making it more likely to fail from excessive heat.

Try to stay below 115°F in use anything over 120 starts causing damage after long periods (30+ mins @120°+) idle it should stay between 90° and 100°F due to body temp if its in your pocket, below 90° if sitting on a desk or table indoors. I've had mine get as high as 150° F while charging over night when my battery started bulging so now i place a gel ice pack with a towel on it on my desk and sit the phone on the towel while it charges overnight until my new battery arrives. Its kept my phone around 80° F when I wake up and as low as 70°F when the ice pack is fresh. Once the bulge begins the battery gets really hot really fast from the internal damage causing a chemical reaction. The bulge separates the internal deviders that keep the chemical blocks separated normally. If a good(structurally sound) l-ion battery reaches 200°F it can rupture causing severe chemical burns. I've done a few tests using a Plexiglas box over a hotplate with a battery on the hotplate until it ruptured, after I saw reports of laptop batteries exploding and didn't believe they'd really blow up.

Okay thanks! Mine got to about 115F but that was because it was in the car and it was also off. When mine charges it only goes as high as 92, which I'm going to guess is good.

Yea the cooler the better, I live in FL if I left my phone in the car it would probably explode in the summer. It can easily get over 175 in the direct sunlight inside my car. It gets so hot it steals your breath when you get in. Before my battery started bulging I'd rarely break 110 using it playing a game for 2 or 3 hours. Now with the bulge it barely gets below 100, but my battery looks like its pregnant its swollen so bad. Once it starts it just get worse and worse and the longer it goes the faster it swells. This last week I've been able to see a difference day to day with the naked eye. Hopefully this new battery gets here soon, so I can ship my OEM to Samsung, already got the shipping label just can't go without my phone while I wait.

Im just gonna get right to it. On my last two topics i explained how after the new update my battery life is beyond terrible. 20% drop in 30 mins with no use. I got my battery replaced. Same result. Went to my sprint store a day later. Found out after people have updated to the new ics FI27 35% now have borked phones. Atleast 18% are battery issues. I am one of the percents. With said i hope people read this. If anyone can offer suggestions to fix this im open to it. But please know i have gone back to gb and the technician at sprint told me it wouldnt matter because of the coding of ics. This also relates to the car chargers telling your phone when trying to charge it the "voltage is to high."
With that said besides going back to gb im open to other options. Thanks for your help.

Im not worried about ICS, Im on JB. Root your phone, get rid of all the bloatware, and load what you want. Take control of your situation, or sit back and complain. It your choice.
Hey OP, I'm not minimizing your issues at all, I'd just like to know where those percentages came from for borked phones from fi27..?
And 35% from what number of known updates at the time? Gotta have a base number to have a percentage.

I have also seen this happen when at or above 115....the phone starts to act weird.etc. and I am still on EL29.
I try to run the phone at 800 when watching vids/navigating/gaming and so on for long periods to keep the temp down.

No ones complaining im just stating a fact or a new problem. I mean we all knew battery hasnt been the greatest but this is terrible. Ill probably try jb but it wont fix the problem with regards the usb port. Im sure we will see another update to fix the latest bs update.

Yeah just because you had issues with fi-27 doesnt mean its going to jack up everyone phone. I've ran it since it was leaked and now the official. Hell I get better battery life with FI-27 then I have on any rom since GB. So as always... Cool story bro

Uh ok maybe i wasnt clear 35% have this issue. Its not me complaining its a usb port problem that will either a)mess up your radio b)mess up your battery c) make your usb port unfunctional. Ask a sprint rep next time. Im just passing along the message.

And how long did it take for all this to happen? I've been running this for 2-2.5weeksish

You mean the sprint reps that can't give you the same answer twice? Yea OK, I'm sure s/he pulled some numbers out of thin air to shut you up and avoid doing anything resembling real work most of the reps/techs at any service center's knowledge is limited to what's on the piece of paper infront of them. There are a few who actually research solutions to problems but 90% of them barely have a high school education and their tech skills are limited to "a factory reset will fix your battery bulging"
OP is a retarded piece of goat dung.
That is all.

I imagine it won't be a very practical endeavor, I'll probably use my s4 for when I do exercise. What do you plan on doing?

Much better than the Galaxy Gear faux-smart watch.
just swap sims and you're good to go.
I'm really considering this as well because both the Note 2 & 3 are huge and clunky while working out.

I used to use one of these while working out. Locked the screen and disabled the Changing of tracks with the volume rocker. That way there were no accidental track changes. I lost the Nokia bluetooth adapter and have ordered this as a replacement.
The main reason I like this style of bluetooth adapter is that it allows me to use whatever set of headphones I want to. I just wish someone would make one with Apt-X.

Right though! The only way I was able to remove it was by using nail clippers. I ended up scratching the plastic off pretty bad but it's the only way I could get it out
Why not just get an armband?
http://www.amazon.com/COD-TM-Armban...qid=1381135984&sr=8-1&keywords=note+3+armband
Or one of those runner waist packs?
Pair with some bluetooth headphones and go.
Whichever arm that you put that arm band on would definitely get "jacked" after running with that on.

I went jogging yesterday with the 3 in an armband that I have had since my Note 1. This is when you appreciate the lower weight. Was fine.

I found the pedometer pretty interesting so far. I did a 1.5 mile walk yesterday and used both S Health and Runtastic for tracking. Both apps were spot on for distance, but were off by 50 calories of each other. So runtastic tracked my distance by GPS and S Health tracked my distance by steps. I was impressed.
I also like the fact that you can turn off the screen and it will still track your steps.
I use fitbit for weight tracking, myfitnesspal for calorie intake and runtastic for walking, cycling and heart rate monitoring. While S Health is more nicer looking and has everything rolled in one, I don't think I'll use other then for the built in pedometer. But I'm thinking on buying a BodyMedia Link for a more precise daily calorie burn.
Also I can't get S Health to detect my runtastic heart monitor. It says it will work with the Wahoo monitor which, I think is just a rebrand.

How much does it drain the battery to leave it on all day? I used the "Moves" app which is kind of like S Health without all the excessive features (basically just a pedometer) and my battery drained around 20% more every day, so I stopped using it. (On a Nexus 4 though, thats why i'm wondering what it is on this phone).

I haven't noticed any battery impact thus far. But while at work, out of habit, I plug my phone to charge. I also pause the pedometer when driving and if I'm going to be sitting for awhile.

Thats good. I guess thats why samsung has all those sensors on the phone.
I'll probably get some cheapo MP3 player to jog with, possibly a iPod Nano. Granted I've jogged with my Note 2 before, it just becomes kind of a chore to hold and run with.
Been using a spibelt (http://www.spibelt.com/) for years (g1, galaxy vibrant, g2x, s3) and found that the Note3 just barely fits (i dont' have a case yet) in the big pocket of the 2 pocket style belt. No bounce at all while running.

My gear works quite well thank you.
It does, but the problem is that it needs a phone to make it "smart." I believe it's not self sufficient.
I'm not knocking it, it's a great effort. But, it's hard to ignore that it is more of an accessory to the galaxy devices, rather than a stand alone smart watch.
I was getting one myself when I first heard about it, but seeing it's limitations, I don't think it is justifiable to shell out 300 for it.
Granted, the gear 2 will be just amazing. Look at the note series... The 2nd and 3rd revisions are just awesome.
